normal random blog #3 (April 12th, 2023)
note: i would call this website update log #6, but this blog doesnβt actually talk about the changes in the site, its just me rambling about moving from one website hosting service to another
ive been thinking of moving the website from neocities to another website hosting service, since for the past 2 days, iβve been using visual studio code (with live preview) for all the coding instead of the neocities text editor. part of this is because visual studio code is wayyyy faster when it comes to updating the site than the neocities editor, in which you have to click save and hope that the site actually updates most of the time, because it doesnt.
but when i actually use visual studio code, putting all the local files to neocities is such a hassle, since you have to
delete every single file in the page
erase every line in the neocities index.html file (since you cant actually delete the file directly in neocities)
upload all the files in the root of the website
open local index.html and copy all the code
paste all the code in the neocities index.html file
and man i dont wanna do that shi, i just wanna press some buttons and itll deliver all the files i changed online.
(and if youre a neocities user, yeah i can just mount the site to the computer and edit my files there, but i have to pay a subscription service for that...)
luckily, i have a github account, a small knowledge of github, and an idea...
(sorry for the crudely made image, i pasted the image in Paintbrush but it was larger than the canvas, and i couldnt resize it lol)
anyway github pages!!! ive been wanting to use this service for a long time, even for my old site, but i had no idea how to use github.
luckily, ive been learning!!!
i know how to fork, commit, pull, and make a repository, and im technically a master at it now!! (get it because master)
i havent actually tried github pages yet, even as iβm typing this right now, but ill figure it out today...
if successful:
i will permanently delete the neocities account, as it will not be in use anymore...
the domain will be changed from sushiwt.neocities.org to sushiwt.github.io
this 88x31 button is now outdated
soo yeah... ill be moving from neocities to github pages!
