OK, but I LOVE that in this scene McCoy is using “Captain” because he needs Kirk to really listen to what he’s saying – i.e. offering them a strategy to escape. By using “Captain”, Kirk’s mind should go !!! because it’s not common for McCoy to call him that.

#don't care if i'm reading too much into it it fits my interpretation of the whole show LOL #kirk probably reacted to the 'kill me once for touching her' but... i need a reason for mccoy to call kirk 'captain'#had to edit yesterday's post where i said mccoy was using captain for no reason... one of those was actually spock - the transcript made a #mistake and this isn't for no reason - i just didn't pay attention yesterday #love these little bits of characterization i can use in fics #one day i'll stop paying attention to how mccoy and kirk call each other but i just find it interesting lol #some eps are a bit ??? like the one with the horta where kirk just keeps calling him 'doc' lol but a lot of it can generally be considered a #thing and the 'don't fit' can be ignored #tos nonsense #Leonard McCoy #Jim Kirk #headcanon times
