I think online mutual culture is killing some of you
#it has been for a long time#you don't owe anyone a follow#and people don't owe you that either... and regardless if you're friendly with them ie interacting constantly or not#these are real people you don't know very well and that is FINE!#if someone doesn't follow back that doesn't mean they hate you... and you shouldn't be self conscious about it#it's ok! you don't have to be scared of embarrassing yourself by reblogging something you like#you shouldn't be terrified of getting unfollowed or vagued or anything at all. and most people aren't mean about it#and you can interact with someone positively without following them or vice versa#like at the end of the day none of this is real#again it's different when you are actually friends and even if you aren't it's nice to just follow and interact i know! i agree#but there's this obsession with mutual followings that used to be even more prevalent on here#it's moved to twitter for the most part i feel but it'll still be here forever.#unfortunately for some people being online is just playing a game of Not Getting Unfollowed#and in case anyone gets scared this isn't a vague post this is just something i notice a little more every day#kinblr was obsessed with this especially and now that it's dying out i see this substantially less but its presence is still overwhelming#and i'm not saying DON'T care about people. it's fun to have mutuals you're just chill with but you know#don't get in over your head about it! you shouldn't be obsessed with cultivating the ultimate online persona just to appease everybody#but also go dm that mutual. make friends. talk to people. shyness and paranoia will steal your life away#and if you don't click it's no big deal. there's always someone out there for you. i promise this is true. +you can still follow each other#nobody makes follow forevers anymore. free yourself#and if we're mutuals i care about you! but that goes for everyone else too#once again this isn't me trying to diss anyone i just think some people take the follow button too seriously

So time to explain my vote.
I have never watched Supernatural. I don't know who Castiel even is. I am completely neutral on the Destiel ship. If the vote was between Destiel & a ship from another show I didn't watch, I wouldn't vote. I wouldn't know enough to vote.
Note that this isn't me dissing Supernatural as a show. I have never seen it. For all I know, it could be the best show ever. I wouldn't know one way or the other because I HAVEN'T SEEN SUPERNATURAL.
If the vote was between Destiel & a ship I don't like or a show I don't like, I wouldn't vote because I don't indulge in hate voting. These are meant to be fun distractions, people taking shipping wars seriously are stupid. You can like a ship without harassing people about it & you can personally dislike a ship & just leave people alone. Same with shows.
I only vote if I've seen at least one of the shows in question & actually think it's a cute ship. I don't participate in votes between ships within the same series as I don't like diving into toxic ship wars. It has to be like this poll, ships from two unrelated works. Even then, it requires me to be a big fan of the show, as in actually rewatched it rather than just watched it once. Otherwise, I just don't care enough to vote.
So how is this relevant?
I AM A WITCH FROM MERCURY FAN
I am one of the aforementioned Gundam fans that the @the-eeveekins warned about, though more a casual fan than a mega-fan as I haven't watched or read everything. I started with watching Gundam Seed when I was 12 or 13. Since than, I have seen or read the rest of the Cosmic Era timeline, & moved into some of the other timelines. I watched all of Gundam 00 including "Awakening of the Trailblazer", as well as all of "Iron-Blood Orphans".
I gave up on "Reconguista in G" after Episode 4 because I personally disliked it as a series (note opinions on Gundam series are really subjective & I don't have the energy for fan wars. If a fan of Reconguista in G reads this, then let's agree that you do you, I do me). I wish I could erase "Turn A Gundam" from my memory, just never mention "Dark History" or "Moonlight Butterfly" to me ever (I know some people really love Dark History, cool you do you, I do me). I haven't started on the Universal Century timeline yet because it's so big that it's daunting to try starting & I don't have unlimited time to binge it.
Still, "Witch from Mercury" dethroned "Gundam Seed" as my favourite part of the Gundam franchise. That's saying something because I really liked "00" & "IBO" (just not enough to dethrone Seed) & would recommend them to anyone interested in checking mecha anime out, but something about the characters in WfM made it my overall favourite in the franchise.
So yeah, a vote between a show I really like vs a show I haven't watched. Yes, I am voting for Suletta & Miorine because I really like those two, their character arcs & "WfM" as a whole. No, I am not voting against Dean & Castiel because I have no idea who Castiel is & only have vague ideas who the Winchester brothers are from interacting with Supernatural fans.
I found it insulting the way that some imply that people wouldn't vote for one of my favourite shows & instead assume are voting against their own favourite show. Gundam isn't a small franchise to begin with. It's bigger than The Simpsons, Guitar Hero, Sailor Moon or the Ice Age movies. Our fandom is bigger than whatever hatedom Supernatural may have (I don't know if Supernatural has a hatedom or not, because I know next to nothing about it.)
Sure, Gundam was never as big as Hello Kitty or Pokemon (those are the true juggernauts of Japanese pop culture) & earned $20 billion less than it's contemporary & closest comparison in the West, Star Wars. But it's not small potatoes. And Witch from Mercury pulled in a lot of new people who weren't already Gundam fans (once again, for the franchise that already occupied the same position in Japanese culture that Star Wars does in the Core Anglosphere). There are a lot of WfM fans who can vote in this poll.
