Olruggio is dad
So the first time I was reading the auditorium arc I wasn't expecting for Olruggio to be that prominent of a figure in it. Up until that point we've mostly seen him in a supportive role with Qifrey and he hadn't interacted much with the girls personally, aside from that gruff first meeting with Coco. I've mostly expected the girls to be left on their own while Olruggio is somewhere of screen filling in reports n maybe being by Qifrey's side if we are lucky in the shipping department.
So imagine my damn surprise when he just immediately moved into the empty teacher/dad/guardian position that Qifrey left empty. As soon as the arc starts he's already establishing his protection over the kids to Lulucy. Qifrey is out and he can't protect them so Olruggio immediately fills that position, despite previously seeming to be the one that would rather avoid butting heads with authority.
The amount of worried husband moments we get borders on goddamn fanfiction. Are you fucking kidding me. The comforting hand Sinosia has on his shoulder, they way he wrings his hands (just like Qifrey often does), the falling asleep at your sick bed, the 'better wake up soon or you'll miss everything', hello?? hello? how are we allowed to be this well fed in shipping department.
But Olruggio's interactions with the kids are what I love the most in this arc. Olruggio is NOT a teacher. He's always been more interested in supporting Qifrey then in getting students of his own. He actively scolded Coco when they first met for calling him 'professor', he doesn't even have his teaching license. And yet
And yet he's such a wonderful teacher through the entire arc. Not only does he give precise corrections when they are needed, he also doesn't hand hold too much. Instead of telling the girls what magic they should use to pass their test, he helps them get into the mindset they need to be in to figure that out on their own. He's actively giving small directions to encourage big growth primarily based on the girls thinking and problem solving for themselves. He also provides gentle encouragement when the girls get stuck, pointing out things that they improved on that might now how been obvious to them, showing them their own progress and how proud they should be of it.
Olruggio may not want to be a teacher, but whether because of his own personality, whether because he picked up things from Qifrey, he sure makes a good one.

The lil looks of pride in this chapter are just the cutest.
