Shame: Arrow 2x04 Review (Crucible)

The bomb of bombs is dropped....

SPOILERS!!!

SARA LANCE IS ALIVE! The many lies of Oliver Queen begin to unravel and even Diggle and Felicity have difficulty understanding his motivations behind this whopper.  

Let’s dig in...

Olicity (and Diggle)

Oliver, per usual, is running late for a Queen Consolidated party due to a previous engagement with some gang members. Felicity makes excuses for him to Isabel Rochev as she listens on comms to the melodic sounds of gunfire and Oliver kicking ass.

The best part however is when he shows up at the party in a tux (SWOON) and Isobel notices he has blood on his face.

Felicity wipes the blood off his face, which is SOOOO MARRIED and why are they so perfect? This is classic "in a relationship" behavior before they're actually in a relationship.

Laurel is attending the party with Blood because… I honestly don’t know why. The party is to attract investors so why the district attorney and ADA is there beats me. Oliver, per usual, asks Laurel if she’s okay as she tosses back a glass a champagne like it’s water. In Oliver’s defense, she was kidnapped by the Dollmaker last episode so there is some cause for concern.

Why am I slotting this scene in the Olicity section? There is a shot of Felicity watching Oliver and Laurel and her expression is one of curiosity, concern… maybe jealousy?

It’s difficult to read, which is unusual since Felicity always wears her heart on her sleeve. Perhaps she is simply wondering the same thing the audience – where do Oliver and Laurel stand? Is he just a concerned friend? (Yes). Is there anything romantic in Oliver’s concern? (Nope).

It’s rare that Laurel and Felicity’s paths cross and there is an undercurrent of competitiveness between the two characters. I don’t know if that’s written intentionally but it’s certainly not warm between them. What I love is that Felicity asserts herself more than she did their first meeting in Season 1 and holds her ground and patiently waits for Laurel to leave.

The icy stare from Laurel Lance could freeze molten lava. I don’t know why Katie Cassidy chose to play the scene like this, but this is not the first time she’s looked at Felicity Smoak like an insect to be crushed, so forgive me if I don’t see these two going shopping together any time soon. Maybe it’s an actor’s choice or maybe she was instructed by the director to play the scene this way, but regardless if you are cold and unwelcoming to the universally liked character on the show, it does nothing to endear you to the audience.

It turns out my reasons above are not necessarily why Felicity was staring at Oliver and Laurel. Not the primary reason that is. She was staring at Laurel because Felicity finally pieced a mystery together.

Felicity: What if our masked friend that keeps showing up everywhere you go, you know her? What if we’ve been going about this the wrong way? We thought she was obsessed with you. I mean, she showed up in the DA’s office when you were there.  And in the chemical plant the Dollmaker was holed up in. But who else was at both those places? What if our masked friend isn’t following you?

Oliver: She’s following Laurel.

Oliver heeds Felicity’s advice and stakeouts Laurel’s apartment. The Lady in Black shows up as Felicity predicted and Oliver is able to capture her in some pretty nifty trick arrows. Felicity has also developed some tech to counteract the sonic thing.

Oliver: Why are you following Laurel Lance?

Lady in Black: I could ask the same thing of you. But I guess some things never change. You and her, always and forever.

This is an oddly personal remark from someone who is supposed to be a complete stranger. But she’s not a stranger.

The Lady in Black is Sara Lance. 

In all seriousness, this was one of Arrow’s bigger bombs dropped, but I honestly can’t remember if I was shocked to discover Sara was alive when I watched it live. The Arrow writers used Caity Lotz’s recast to their advantage. She looks completely different from the actress in the pilot. Now that her identity is revealed, they reshot the pilot scene of Oliver and Sara on The Gambit.

I do remember my heart sank when I found out Sara was alive. Why? I always felt the biggest obstacle between Laurel and Oliver reuniting romantically was A) he cheated on Laurel with her sister and B) Sara died because of that betrayal. Bringing Sara back felt like the writers were trying to fix the past to clear the way for Oliver and Laurel to be together. Particularly because they discussed in the premiere how much they wished they could go back.  

Yeah guys, I’m gonna be straight with you. I was wrong a lot in Season 2 when I watched it live. The writers did a number on me this season – they twisted me every direction possible.

Oliver has to tell Felicity and Diggle that Sara is alive, which means he’s been lying about how she died all along.

Felicity: Sara Lance? Laurel’s sister? The detective’s other daughter, the one that you took on the Gambit with you even though you were dating Laurel, which we never talked about – I’m sorry, it’s just isn’t she dead? You told everyone that she died with The Gambit went down. That she drowned.

Oliver Queen has many secrets, so many things he does not talk about, and to a certain extent Diggle and Felicity have accepted he needs to reveal those traumas in his own time. But this lie? This lie is a gut punch. This lie is not only difficult to accept it is difficult to understand. Felicity and Diggle's anger is palpable.

It puts a lot of other things that are never discussed on the table for Felicity. Her rambling feelings tumble out as she processes the truth, which is quite similar to what the audience was experiencing and feeling. I know it was for me. She brings up Oliver and Sara cheating on Laurel – another topic in a long list of things Oliver will not discuss.  It’s a glimpse into Felicity’s frustration with Oliver – there’s so many questions, so many things he doesn’t say, so many things she wants to understand. As close as Oliver is to Felicity (and Diggle) there is still an almost impenetrable wall.  This lie is not only a betrayal to the Lance family; it is a betrayal to Diggle and Felicity who have put so much trust in Oliver. Felicity is angry and rightfully so.

Sara’s arrival in Starling City forces the confession from Oliver, whether he likes it or not.

Oliver: When The Gambit capsized, Sara was pulled under. It was so dark and cold. And I thought she drowned.  About a year later, I saw her.

Diggle: You saw her where, on the island? She drifted to the Island too?

Oliver: Not exactly.

Felicity: Why didn’t you tell the Lances that she didn’t die in that boat? Laurel and Mr. Lance, they blame you.

Oliver: It was my fault. What happened was my fault.

Felicity clearly cares about Oliver and cannot understand why he would allow himself to be blamed for Sara’s death when in fact she did not die in the way everyone thought. Even in her anger and confusion, Felicity is protective of Oliver.

The answer for why Oliver never discusses the cheating, how Sara really “died” or why he’s allowed himself to be hated by the Lance family is so very simple. Oliver is ashamed.  Shame is powerful. It can make a person hate themselves. It can make a person lie to the people they trust and love most. It can be more difficult to confess our sins to those we love because we want them to see us as a good person. We want to be worthy in their eyes, even though shame makes us feel anything but worthy.

Diggle: Where has she been all these years Oliver?

Oliver:  I don’t know! Diggle, I swear to God. I was sure she was dead.

Felicity’s anger is fading more quickly than Diggle’s. She’s truly not trying to make light of the situation. This question is deep with genuine empathy. The more Felicity learns about Oliver’s past the worse it gets. It’s not terribly difficult to understand why he does not want to talk about it. Despite her anger and frustration, Felicity can see that Oliver is a traumatized man in pain.

Diggle: Alright, so just to make sure I understand this correctly, after not drowning when The Gambit went down Sara didn’t exactly make it to the island with you where you would see her die yet again. Feel free to fill in the blanks.

Oliver: Not right now.

Diggle: You mean not ever.  Don’t you Oliver?

Felicity: Don’t you think her family had a right to know she made it to the island too?

Felicity and Diggle rarely push Oliver to speak about his years on the island, but they are pushing hard now because they feel they are owed answers. They feel the Lance family is owed answers. They are right. They do deserve the truth and Oliver feels their fair and understandable questions pushing up against his secret shame.  But it won’t make the wall come down. At the end of the day, Oliver is a traumatized man and when experiencing trauma the body has one of two reactions – fight or flight. For Oliver Queen, it’s always fight and he pushes right back.

Felicity gets the answer to her question. No, Oliver Queen does not have any happy stories. He bore witness to horrors and whatever hate or recrimination he must bear is preferable to truth. 

Oliver: And they were better off not knowing.

Angel: Some lies are necessary...

Buffy Summers: For what?

Angel: Sometimes the truth is worse. You live long enough, you find that out.

We see Felicity’s forgiveness in this moment. There is nothing but empathy in her eyes.  She may not understand why Oliver lied. She may be angry and frustrated with his lack of trust in her and Diggle. But Felicity clearly understands Oliver is a man who has suffered greatly and at the end of the day she has nothing but unconditional love for him. 

Unfortunately, Oliver does not understand the only way out is through. The only way to heal from trauma is to share it with those we trust. We have to accept help. Human beings are not built to bear suffering alone. We need to share out pain with each other.

But Oliver is not ready to do that. In order to accept unconditional love, he must understand he is deserving of it first. But shame and guilt is all Oliver can feel right now.

This revelation does not stop Team Arrow from fighting crime. A local gang lord who calls himself the Mayor has military grade weapons that he is selling in Starling City. Every gun crate has a GPS, but the Mayor deactivated it. After Lyla provides Diggle with a similar GPS, Felicity is able to track down where it’s made – none other than Queen Consolidated.

Felicity determines how to turn the beacon back on and delivers the location of the guns.

Felicity: I believe you ordered a crate of stolen milatary weapons, Mr. Queen

Felicity calls Oliver “Mr. Queen" and he likes it. A lot. COMMENCE ALL THE EYE SEX.  The chemistry is INSANE.

Felicity and Diggle don’t push the Sara issue anymore. Their silent resignation is their acceptance that Oliver is not ready yet. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t getting through to him. We will see their impact with Oliver’s interactions with Sara.

Sara and Laurel Lance

If it’s possible, I would say Sara is even more traumatized than Oliver. We may not know everything that happened to Oliver the five years away, but he did make the choice to return home. He told his family he was alive. Sara may be in Starling City, but she has not come home.

She is equally as vague with Oliver as to her whereabouts the last five years. Other than a disquieting remark about Slade, she is fairly mum on the details of her past as well. What we do know is this:

A year ago Sara heard about a man in the green hood and knew it was Oliver. She previously thought he was dead.

Sara learned to fight AFTER the island.

She came back to Starling City after the earthquake to make sure her family was safe.

Sara’s primary reason for not wanting her family to know that she’s alive is because she is changed. She is not the Sara they will remember. But as Oliver points out, Sara hasn’t left Starling City yet. In fact, she’s come up with vigilante persona of her own.

This is how she met Sin – she saved her from being attacked by a group of men. These are not the actions of someone who’s ready to leave town. Instead she’s been living in the shadows and watching her family through windows. Clearly, she wants to come home but she doesn’t know how.

The other Lance daughter is not doing much better. I’m sure Detective Lance never thought he’d be asking Oliver Queen for help with Laurel, but after she is pulled over for a DUI he’s ready to ask anyone who can get through to her. Lance is convinced Laurel has inherited more than his sense of justice. She’s also inherited his drinking problem.

In the immortal words of Cordelia Chase, Laurel is “campaigning for bitch of the year” and lashes out at Oliver as soon as he broaches the subject of her drinking. She fills him in on all the dirty details of Detective Lance’s alcoholism and insists it’s his problem and not hers. But by episode end, Laurel has added pills to diet of booze and we’re officially in a full blown addiction storyline.

Oddly enough, it’s Blood who gives Oliver some insight into the Lance women.

Blood: Sooner or later we all go through a crucible. I’m guessing yours was that island. Most believe there are two types of people who go into a crucible. The ones who grow stronger from the experience and survive it and the ones who die. But there’s a third type. The ones who learn to love the fire. They choose to stay in their crucible because it’s easier to embrace the pain when it’s all you know anymore.

Clearly, Sara is the third type. We can reserve judgment on Laurel’s crucible for now since it’s just getting started. Oliver straddles the line between surviving the fire and remaining in it. The key in pushing Oliver over that line is his ability to open up to those he loves and share his pain. He has Diggle and Felicity begging him this episode to do exactly that.

Sara: We’re both ghosts. We died on that island.

Oliver: No we didn’t. We both lived.

It’s interesting Oliver used the term “lived.” Typically he uses “survive.” Seeing his own shame and pain reflected in Sara brings about some self realization. Oliver doesn’t have to stay in the fire anymore than Sara does. There are so many sins Oliver cannot fix. There are so many losses he can never get back. He knows the Lance family will hate him for lying about how Sara died, but what he wants more than anything is to bring Sara home. It’s not just for her benefit. It’s for Oliver’s as well. This is one wrong he can make right. He all but begs Sara and finally she relents. They take a step out of the fire together and walk towards the living.

But Laurel is consumed by her shame and continues to burn.

Stray Thoughts

Does Oliver shower between the hood and tux change?

 Diggle makes sure Lyla knows he’s single. It’s so slutty and I love it.

Oliver’s cash for guns reveals a cash flow problem, but I think Isobel is cheap and he’s more multi millionaire versus billionaire these days, which doesn’t feel like a real problem.

The DA was totally hitting on Laurel and she rejects him. GOOD. We aren’t moving on from Tommy any time soon. IT’S WHAT HE DESERVES.

So glad they are not going the love triangle route with Roy, Thea and Sin. Rather enjoy this little trio.

hi i'm responding a little late to your request for wip questions but that's okay

anyway. head empty rn, but i'd love to hear a bit more about a wip of yours i've been curious about!!! vampires don't take road trips. i would like to learn more. i realize that's not a specific question so: looking at the main cast, what's something each of them would hate to be *seen* as and why? (i.e. if someone would hate to be seen as stupid, or would hate to be seen as unreliable, something like that)

or alternatively. silly question. rate the main cast in order from "will show up exactly on time on the dot to the function" to "will like clockwork show up at least an hour later than they were told to." feel free to elaborate on your rankings if you want!

but these are both EXCELLENT questions, and for once i may have answers bc ive had these ocs for like a decade 💀

so, ig if we stick to the main main cast (which ngl is hard to determine for me but i suppose that’d be darren, dave, liz, olice, and veronica… at least for the first half of the book lmaooo) — for the easy question of who’s showing up on time versus who is showing up late in that order:

dave, veronica, olice, darren, liz

as for why:

dave is a lawyer and a generally punctual person and is somewhat anxious. he prefers to be 5 minutes early.

veronica is a wannabe socialite and so her image is contingent on if she shows up on time and so she’ll be there on the dot.

olice is used to her mothers antics and she feels like it’s rude to be ridiculously late so she tries to be there between on time or 5-10 minutes late at the most.

darren is more lax and tends to get distracted so if he shows up like 30 minutes late to the function it’s chill. the only time he’s on time is when dave is with him LOL

liz is an Actual socialite but she doesn’t care about that or social events in general so she tends to be “fashionably late” and people “forgive” her bc of her status 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

for the harder question:

DARREN: the way this is actually a hard question for my actually emotionally intelligent son LMAOOO. i think in general he hates being seen as dramatic, or someone who makes a big deal out of things. he’s a chill guy, and for his own sanity he prefers to stay chill if and when possible. the times that he’s had outbursts or had people accuse him of being overly dramatic are the few things that haunt him in life. i think the reason as to why… it’s a bit hard to say. but i think it comes down to the fact that in not wanting to be bothered with things himself, he tries not to bother other people. he’s more likely to assume that he’s getting on someone’s nerves or pissing them off and would just ghost them to avoid drama instead of fully confronting the situation. he Will if he needs to, but he’d just rather not because … idk? he just doesn’t think it’s worth the trouble. he’d rather keep his peace and be wrong than rock the boat and be right. it’s definitely something he’s kinda picked up from his dad, but darren manages to be waaaay more chill that even dave is because he just keeps people at arms length unless it’s his dad or olice. he learns how to do that less but the idea of letting people in enough to ruffle his inner peace is also. hm. not something he’s fond of. so basically, he’s not conflict avoidant he’s more conflict neutral and likes to take the path of least resistance if any of that makes sense.

DAVE: he hates being seen as weak. he recognizes that this is very irrational but it’s a fear and discomfort that developed from his own father, who was extremely harsh on him growing up, and even harsher if dave got upset or cried or wasn’t “manly.” so for him, being “weak” comes with a host of trauma around it that he’s still working through many years later. it doesn’t trigger him as bad as it used to, but it definitely still can.

LIZ: liz is a bit weird because she doesn’t really care how other people perceive her—she just doesn’t like being responsible for those assumptions people have of her character? so i wouldn’t say she hates being seen as competent but she hates being seen as something she’s “not” or something that she doesn’t take credit for. she’s not responsible for your preception of her yknow. if i had to say why it’s because she’s fiercely independent. she’s going to do what she wants to do and what she thinks is best no matter what and she’s usually not interested in hearing other people’s opinions; she’s quite stubborn. bending to other people’s whims is a bruise to her ego and she has done it before and hates herself for falling to that sort of weakness instead of doing what she wanted to do. so in a manner of speaking she hates being seen as controllable and hates being seen as weak in a somewhat similar way to dave, but more because of her personal pride than trauma. she’s an extremely proud woman lol.

OLICE: ngl, she hates being seen as her mother’s daughter. veronica hasn’t been the Best mother to olice. after she decided to return to the us and break up with her father in india (without even saying a word mind you so olice has never met the man. and before anyone says “maybe he was abusive” as the author i’m telling you, he wasn’t. veronica just got in over her head and then bailed, only thinking of herself but then didn’t take the proper steps to make sure her daughter felt loved or to be a good single parent 🤷🏽‍♂️), olice has only been treated by her mom and her mom’s extended family as a doll or an extension of her mother. better to be seen, not heard; the only interests that were fostered in a meaningful way were the ones that she shared with her mother. veronica often speaks over her and isn’t cognizant of her needs, more content to chase her aspirations than care about her daughter unless her daughter can be sort of “used” for something. she hates being reminded that they’re related. she refuses to go by the american (and technically legal) name that her mother gave her which is clara. her mother did at least tell her the name that her father wanted to name her/the name she and him agreed on in india which was olichudar and that’s why she goes by that. clara and olichudar have similar meanings which is how her mother came around to the name (clara meaning bright/famous, and olichudar meaning brilliant) but olice doesn’t think it suits her and she hates being called it. she also has her mothers sister’s name as an “honor name” so her cousins and extended family call her “cc” a lot and she hates it to Death. she became grateful when her mom started dating dave because it was through him that olice started getting some of the freedom to express herself and to try and reconnect with her indian heritage; with dave keeping veronica distracted or off her back about it. even though many say that her mother loves her in her own way (even dave sometimes and that’s the only thing she and he disagree on), olice has never felt real, unconditional love from her mother. especially when she compares it to dave and darren’s relationship. they’re close, dave takes an active interest in the things darren likes, he’s supportive and cares about darren’s comfortability and cares about loving him more than anything else, even veronica. and olice can look back on her life before dave and darren and think how she was content with crumbs from her mother; veronica only wanted olice around when she could brag about her or show her off, then toss her to the side when she didn’t want to deal with her. no interest in olice outside of how she looked being a “strong woman raising a kid on her own” when as far as olice knows from her mother’s own words, her bio dad wanted to be there for her. meeting dave and seeing his relationship with darren has made olice much more bitter and resentful of her mother but the only reason she hasn’t tried to push her and dave breaking up is because she doesn’t want to lose what she considers her real family and father figure. olice is sure that one day she’s either gonna have to cut contact with her mother, or her mother’s going to abandon her. and i won’t tell you which one, but this roadtrip proves one of those theories right. :)

also to be said, veronica isn’t a traditionally abusive person towards olice—not physically or even verbally. what olice goes through is more akin to my own relationship with my mother growing up, where it’s more neglectful and about not being seen or not being emotionally valued versus being physically taken care of. i don’t call it “abuse” in the book specifically just because i have a hard time thinking of what i went through as abuse myself but it definitely Hurts and is unhealthy and that’s what i want to get at irregardless. all of this to say, as an aside, this is something i always knew but never talked about but veronica and olice’s relationship vs darren and dave’s has always been olice is who i am and veronica is who my mother was (in an exaggerated, less religious way) and darren is who i wished i was and dave was who i wished my mother was 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

VERONICA: this is sort of a roundabout, 2-part answer, but she hates being seen as both “the other woman” and as “poor” — and basically both of those answers circle around into an inferority complex. with the first, it stems off of her insecurities when it comes to being with dave, and as much as i love dave to death and am somewhat uncharitable to veronica (because of darren really 🤷🏽‍♂️) i do *understand* where she’s coming from. you should never be made to feel “not good enough” in a relationship; and it’s hard to tell where the divide is for dave Specifically makes her feel that way (though not necessarily intentionally; hurt people hurt people etc etc) or if this is a particular Complex that she projects onto him. but the fact of the matter is, all of the things about their relationship, she has pretty much had to pursue herself. she met dave at an event, and she took a liking to him. she approached him, flirted, got his number, text incessantly until he agreed to a date, then two, and constantly made their plans, and was even the one to ask him to be exclusive. dave was very very passive in a lot of this, and when she was under the assumption that his former partner/baby mama (liz) was dead, it became easy for her to justify her actions. dave was grieving and clearly had been for too long, and she just wanted to get him out of his shell—he was too handsome and too kind to be alone for the rest of his life, in her opinion (not that it’s really her call to make, but i digress). she was only giving him permission to be himself again! and in some ways she is correct, wallowing over liz for the rest of his life certainly isn’t healthy, and dave on some level is aware of that, which is why he sort of… went along with everything regarding veronica. and they had a healthy relationship Before she found out that liz was actually still alive, and dave was just still in love with her. now, ngl, im not 100% sure how she finds this out; bc dave certainly doesn’t talk about liz that often if he can avoid it, not even with his own son, so like hell is he going to talk about it to the new woman he’s seeing (he’s just that kind of guy). all i Do know is that it was several years into their relationship, and around the time that she and her daughter olice moved in with darren and dave. and when she found this out, she was fucking livid honestly. what does this woman who Left You when you needed her most have that EYE, a present, loving, caring partner, don’t? so anytime she and dave had a spat, anytime she clashed with darren or anything went wrong, she became more and more bitter. convinced that she would always be a second fiddle to this woman she’d never met. and the worst part is, she is Partially proven right when liz finally does enter the picture and suddenly dave and liz have more sparks and chemistry than she (in her mind) feels like she and dave have. and this could potentially be because liz is darren’s mother and veronica has never taken an interest in dave’s son the way that he has wholly embraced being a father to olice, but in her micro-defense, darren has never wanted a mom in general, let alone a new one 🤷🏽‍♂️ ANYWAY though, all of this sort of stems from her childhood (as many traumas do) especially in comparing herself unfairly to her sister, cynthia—unfortunate because cynthia adores her and they’re thick as thieves but to veronica cynthia was always the sister who got what she wanted. she was beautiful, the belle of their hometown, grauated with honors, went to college and found a man who was head over heels for her and who spoils her like crazy, has a big happy family, is Rich…. and what does veronica have to show for her life? she got pregnant on a missions trip and abandoned the father, she never finished college, failed relationship after failed relationship where on more than one occasion she’s been “the other woman” … it’s too much! and no matter how much dave assures her that he has no plans of getting back with liz, the man can’t look at her and say he loves her even after ten years together. hey! :) Im currently making my way, bingereading through all your amazing Arrow-Olicity Fics :D And I was wondering… are you still int eh fandom? either writing or reading or just posting, etc? thank you so muhc for your stories, they are AMAZING!!!! I'm in love with Perdition and No Matter What, and now will headdive into your oneshot :D

Hi there! I am glad that you're enjoying my Arrow/Olicity fanfic :). I don't write for Arrow anymore, all of my stuff is posted on AO3 (if you're not already reading it there). I think I have 60+ stories over there just for Arrow/Olicity, including flash fiction challenge things! I don't PLAN to go back and write more, however, if my brain gets into a re-watch mode, I may go back and wrap up those fics where I accidentally left open. I think I left possibly stories within both "In Truth" and "Paths" series left open, which are two stories that I had really had a good time writing and planning out (and I likely still have notes on).

Right now my writing looks like: putting off further working on my original novel that I shouldn't be putting off, writing Star Trek Strange New Worlds fanfic when I can, and then writing for 2 characters on 2 ships of a Star Trek PBEM RPG. I'm also reading again, which is sort of odd. I used to read a lot forever ago, but I've been adding to my TBR stack but also actually reading as well. So that takes up time as well, but good for the creative part of my brain. RL tends to keep me more occupied than I like and a lot of just trying to get myself where I can have writing space and time.

So thank you so much, Lexi, for checking in! :). It might have taken me two weeks to get back to you this go around ;). So glad that you're enjoying Olicity fics and maybe I'll write more in the future that you'll enjoy as well!

20 Questions for Fic Writers

Saw this and decided to do it myself... Obviously no one tagged me. As I carry on procrastinating the final chapter of HYGTG, lemme do this 😂 Also gonna change from AO3 to Tumblr 😊.

1. How many works do you have on Tumblr?

I've got 21 works, majority of them are Enhypen smaus and then there's the few one shots/Imagines. And my longest fanfic which is Invisible a Han Seojun fanfic.

2. What's your total Tumblr word count?

So this is just counting Invisible and the one shots Ive written, 41k... Majority of that is Invisible

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Kpop, specifically the group Enhypen. I add Harry Potter into that.

4. Top five fics by Notes?

Invisible at the top with the masterlist having 649 notes... Ngl seeing this makes me want to rewrite Invisible...

Unexpected Partners has 468 notes. Which makes sense, my Jungwon fics tend to be quite popular.

Peace has 365 notes. This was my first Enha & Harry Potter fic. I do love this one.

You Belong With Me has 337 notes. Another Harry Potter AU with a Jungwon redemption arc...

The Second Choice has 307 notes. Another Jay smau but this one is a Office Au with a toxic bestie.

Honestly apart from Invisible and Unexpected Partners being top 1 and 2, I wasn't expecting any of the other ones on this list.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yep, I wish I got more comments but I always reply to the comments I do get.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I am very much against angsty endings. Happy endings all the way.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All my fics have happy endings so I don't even know which one has the happiest ending...

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Havent gotten any yet and I dont want to get hate either please.

9. Do you write smut?

Nope and I never will.

10. Craziest crossover?

I guess constantly mixing Harry Potter with kpop is as crazy as my crossovers get.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Thankfully no but I'd like for it to not happen.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope but I am open to it if anyone interested.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, that would be interesting to do though.

14. All time favorite ship?

Okay so thats a hard one... I'm gonna go with my top 4.

Harmione {Harry Potter and Hermione Granger}. I am a diehard Harry and Hermione shipper. I just love them so much.

Olicity {Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak}. I was shipping them from the moment Felicity was introduced on the show.

Damianette {Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Damian Wayne}. All my knowledge of DC has come from reading Maribat fics and I do not regret that in the slightest.

Rogan {Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger}. They will forever be my ultimate ship. In my headcanon they ended up together happily ever after.

15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Its more like whats an idea that I actually want to write... Its a hard one cause I have so many ideas running about in my head that very few of them actually make it to being published...

16. What are your writing strengths?

I guess coming up with backstories for my characters? Making people care even though you are only seeing the story through texts and tweets? Character development and growth?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Haha... Everything?

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I think its quite interesting but I would like a translation somewhere so that I at least know whats been said. Unless its important to the plot then its fine.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Technically it was Pixelberry Choices Mobile Games stories(? dunno what else to call them) specifically I wrote for High School Story and High School Story Class Act. I have since deleted those fics from my tumblr and Wattpad, they are still on AO3 but I've orphaned them.

Invisible my True Beauty fic is the one that I count as the first fandom I wrote in.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Ch14 The Gift You Gave Me

A/N: I don't know whose all out there still reading Olicity stories but for those who are I'd like to say thank you for showing an interest in my stories despite updates taking FOREVER.

All mistakes are my own.

There are undoubtedly some inaccuracies in this chapter, I apologize in advance.

Felicity worked on autopilot. Her focus wasn’t there.

She wasn’t there.

Everything felt so far away.

She was alone. Isolated. Lost. 

Oliver called to ask her to join him and John for lunch. She told him she couldn’t. She had a meeting.

Instead, Oliver got her to agree to dinner.

Her Phone buzzed with a reminder of her meeting. Felicity reluctantly closed out her computer, grabbed her jacket, and headed out. 

Almost ten minutes later found Felicity entering the lobby of one of the most prestigious law firms on this side of the country.

She walked up to the lobby receptionist. “Hi, I’m here to see Mr. Price. Henry Price.”

The heavyset man smiled. “You will take the elevator to the 23rd floor and make a right.” 

“Thank you,” Felicity hiked her purse higher on her shoulder and headed over to the elevator doors.

She rode the elevator up to the 23rd floor and followed the directions she was given, and found herself in yet another lobby. 

This time the receptionist was a curly red head with glasses. She wasn’t much older than Felicity. “Hi, how can I help you?”

Felicity noted she had a warm and welcoming demeanor. “I have a meeting with Henry Price. My name’s Felicity Smoak.”

The woman’s green eyes lit up with recognition. “Mr. Price has been expecting you.” She waved her hand to a set of double doors on the left. “You can go right in.”

Felicity thanked her and headed for the doors, rapping her knuckles against the wooden frame of the door on the right before letting herself in.

An older man with salt peppered hair and a kind face looked up from his chair behind his desk.

“Ms. Smoak,” he stood, extending his hand. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. You are just as beautiful as your picture. Although, I do wish we were meeting under better circumstances.” 

“I’m sorry. I’m a little confused, to be honest.” Felicity placed her hand in his.

When did this man see a picture of her and why?

“My apologies. I’ll explain.” Henry released her hand and motioned for her to sit down across from him.

Felicity set her purse down and sat down on the edge of the chair, back straight, hands wringing nervously in her lap.

“The last few times I met with Tommy, he spoke of you with nothing but fondness, affection, and trust. He showed me your picture once when I commented that he looked happy.” Henry paused. “You were the source of that happiness.” 

Felicity swallowed heavily. “The feeling was mutual.” 

Henry noted the unshed tears in her eyes. ‘’I have no doubt of that."

Felicity leaned forward. “I don’t mean to come off as rude, but why am I here?”

“Right.” Henry pulled out a file from his desk, laying it in front of him. “I’ve worked for the Merlyn family for years, dating back to Tommy’s mother, Rebecca. I have a long history of handling their wills, final arrangements, financials and family assets. Weeks before his death, Tommy named you his sole beneficiary.” 

“I.. I don’t understand,” said Felicity, shaking her head.

“Simply put, Ms. Smoak, everything that was once Tommy is now yours.” Said Henry. 

Felicity stared, unmoving. It was like she was stuck on a loading screen.

“Ms. Smoak?”

“I’m sorry. I’m trying to process.” Felicity waved her hand around her temple. “What does all that entail?” 

“Tommy’s trust fund, his inheritance from his mother, his shares in Merlyn Global, his father’s assets, the Merlyn estate, his mother’s family home, his mother’s jewelry, and family heirlooms.” Henry listed off. “You are looking at a net worth of 3 billion dollars.”

Felicity lurch forward, sputtering." I’m sorry. I think I heard you say 3 billion dollars."

“You did.”

Felicity sat frozen, unable to process. “I… what was he thinking?”

“That he loved you and wanted you taken care of.”

“I don’t even know what to do from here.” Felicity confessed. “Where I go from here?”

“And that’s okay. We can get you an advisor. For now, I need you to sign some documents to make this all official.” Said Henry empathetically.

Normally, Felicity wouldn’t sign anything without reading it over, however, she signed on the dotted line more than once in a daze.

5 minutes later, found her leaving his office. She sat in her car for a good twenty mins before getting her wits back. She wasn’t driving anywhere on a distracted mind. Felicity returned to work almost an hour late. Her supervisor wasn’t too pleased.

She managed to get him to calm down with promises to stay a few hours longer than she normally would for the next month, working overtime.

Felicity used work to distract her for the rest of the day.

“Ready to go?”

Felicity looked up to see Oliver leaning in the doorway of her office.

The sight of him made her realize she had forgotten about dinner. “Oliver, I’m sorry. I lost track of time.” Felicity apologized.

“It’s fine. John is waiting for us downstairs. I figured the 3 of us could grab some Big Belly Burger tonight.”

Felicity hesitated. She was supposed to stay longer, but getting some BBB sounded perfect right now.

Not to mention she was starving. Felicity was quick to give in with the prospect of food and told herself she would stay longer tomorrow.

Beside’s it wasn’t like her idiot of a supervisor was going to find out. He always cut out early, and she was the only one there on the IT floor. Not counting Oliver.

“That sounds perfect.” Felicity gathered her things. “I am craving something greasy.” 

“You need to start eating better for the both of you and the baby.” Oliver said as they got onto the elevator.

“And you know what I should be eating?” asked Felicity, arching an eyebrow at him as the doors closed behind them and they started their descent to the parking garage.

“I do.” Oliver countered. "I’ve been reading a few books on the subject."

Felicity's eyes widen in surprise, but she was touched. “You can tell me about it over dinner.” 

“After, I was thinking we could go back to your place and talk about what we’re going to tell people.” Oliver suggested.

Felicity paused after stepping out of the elevator.

“Felicity?” Oliver looked at her questioningly.

“I have something else I need to talk to you about of equal importance.” Felicity said finally. 

Oliver placed his hand on her back. "I’m here for whatever you need to talk about." 

“Dinner first,” said Felicity. “Important talks later over ice cream and red wine.”

“You can’t have red wine,” Oliver reminded. 

Felicity pouted. “I’m gonna hate the next 7 months.”

“It’ll be worth it,” Oliver assured her. 

Felicity smiled, knowing he was right, imagining the moment she would get to hold her baby and see Tommy in their eyes.

“I haven’t seen that smile in a long time.” John said when they reached him. 

“I had a nice thought,” Felicity answered as he opened the car door for her.

John and Oliver joined her in the vehicle. 

“What was the thought?” John asked as they left the parking garage.

“That my baby will have Tommy’s eyes and his smile.”

“God help us if it looks like you,” said Oliver. 

Felicity sent him a glare. “I am not bad to look at.”

“You’re beautiful, Felicity.” Oliver told her. 

Felicity’s mouth formed a silent ‘oh’ of surprise. 

John snorted, watching their exchange. 

“Your blonde hair, bright smile and Tommy’s blue eyes, and charm, I won’t stand a chance against this kid,” Oliver said with certainty.

“Oliver Queen wrapped around a pretty blonde’s finger,” John smirked. “Like we hadn’t seen that before.”

Felicity blushed while Oliver had the grace to look sheepish.

“What we should be worried about is if this kid comes out as brilliant as his mother.” John added.

Felicity’s eyes widened, picturing it now. A little girl who looked like her, had Tommy’s blue eyes, her intelligence and Tommy’s penchant for trouble.

“God, help us all.”

Carly and AJ joined them for dinner.

Carly was taking an interest in getting to know Oliver and Felicity better.

AJ was full of questions and was asking Felicity all the questions he could after being told by his uncle John how smart she was.

Carly apologized for her son’s curious nature, but Felicity assured her it was alright. She found AJ’s endless questions endearing. She was sure it would get old, but for now, it was a welcome distraction.

But all too soon, dinner came to an end and John was dropping Felicity and Oliver off at her place.

John didn’t even question it. He simply told them he would see them tomorrow.

“Do you want to go first or should I?” Oliver asked, slipping out of his jacket and dropping it over the back of Felicity’s recliner.

Felicity shot him a confused look as she slipped off her shoes.

“About the things we need to discuss.” Oliver clarified. “What we’re going to tell the press and you said you have something important to tell me.”

“Right,” Felicity curled up on her couch, “how sure are you about this? What about Laurel?”

“What about her?” asked Oliver, joining her on the couch.

“I can tell you right now claiming to father a child with another woman is not going to do your relationship any favors,” said Felicity.

“It’s a good thing, I don’t have a relationship with her then.”

“That may be true, but that could change.” Felicity reasoned.

“I don’t want it too,” said Oliver. “I’ve put my relationship with Laurel in the past. We’re not good for each other. I’m done taking one step forward and two steps back.” 

Felicity was glad to hear it.

“And to answer your question, yes, I’m sure about this.”

He wanted to do this for Tommy and Tommy’s child.

“What if you fall in love with someone else?” Felicity questioned. “What if one day, you want to hang up your hood and build something real? What if -”

“What if you find someone to share your life with?” Oliver countered.

“I won’t.” Felicity paused. “It seems impossible to feel something for someone else when my heart still calls out for Tommy. I think it always will.”

Oliver smiled sadly, eyes full of sympathy. Tommy was a lucky man.

He wished one day he would be loved the way Felicity still loved Tommy, even in death. He wanted to tell her she will love again, but he didn’t want to sound dismissive of her love for Tommy.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do Hood wise. I do know the baby and you are important to me, and I won’t let anyone come between that.”

While Felicity was touched, she didn’t want him putting his life on hold for her. “Oliver, you can’t stop living because of me.”

“That’s not how I see it,” Oliver protested. “You’ve given me something to live for. Life that isn’t nothing but pain and death.” 

Tears instantly spring to her eyes, emotion welling in her chest. "God, these pregnancy hormones are always making me cry."

Oliver chuckled and handed her a tissue. 

Felicity dabbed at her wet eyes. “Thank you." 

“Felicity, I’m not jumping into this blindly. I know the responsibility I would be taking on, and I am still here. I want to do this. I don’t know any other way to convince you, but I am here and I’ll accept whatever decision you make because when all is said and done, it’s your choice.”

He was right. It was her life. It was her choice, but if she said yes, it wouldn’t be just her life anymore, it would be his too, and that made it a decision they should make together as partners.

Felicity reached for his hand. “Thank You. None of this is gonna be easy, but having you at my side helps more than you will ever know.”

“Is that a yes?” asked Oliver hopefully. 

“Yes.” Felicity said and let his hand go. “But now we need to talk about what I have to tell you.”

Oliver waited for her to say more.

“I met with Tommy’s lawyer today.”

“Henry Price?” Oliver asked in surprise. 

The older man had handled most of the Merlyn business and he had been Rebecca Merlyn’s personal lawyer when she had been alive.

Felicity nodded.

“What did he want?” Oliver wondered.

“I don’t know when, but before Tommy died, he made out his will.” Felicity blew out a breath. She still hadn’t wrapped her head around the details. “Tommy left everything to me.” 

Oliver’s eyes widened. “Everything?” 

“Everything:” Felicity confirmed. “With Malcolm gone, everything would have gone to Tommy and, in the event of his death, he left everything to me. The Merlyn estate, the company shares, family heirlooms, his mother’s things, his trust fund, his inheritance. Everything.”

“Wow.” said Oliver. “Do you know what you’re going to do?”

“Honestly,” said Felicity." I don’t, but this complicates everything."

“How so?” asked Oliver, his brow furrowing in confusion.

“Not many people know of Tommy and me,” said Felicity. “What is everyone going to think when the world finds out he left everything to a nobody blonde they never saw him with?”

Oliver Frowned. “If we say I’m the father, they will make you out to be a two-timing lying, golddigger cheat.”

“They could put the baby’s paternity into question, dig into my past and, while I have nothing to hide, I’m not looking forward to the invasion of my privacy.” Felicity admitted.

“I can see how this can complicate things, but my bigger concern is having your name connected to the Merlyn’s. You won’t be safe if that happens.”

“I need to remain anonymous when it comes to Merlyn Global, and its foundations, but how do I do that?”

“I can handle the estates. No one would think anything of it. Tommy was my best friend since we could talk.”

“Walter.” Felicity said suddenly. “Do you think he would run Merlyn Global for me?”

“If we explain everything to him, I don’t think there’s any way he would say no,” Oliver answered.

Felicity felt her worries start to ebb. She placed her hand on her stomach, thumb stroking. 

Oliver watched the movement and had the overwhelming urge to repeat it.

“What will we tell them?” Felicity questioned, her hand resting softly over her stomach.

The last thing she wanted was for her child to grow up with nothing but lies.

“The truth,” said Oliver. “When the time is right and they’re old enough to understand.” 

Felicity felt a calm wash over her, she turned her free hand over palm up. “We’re in this together.”

Oliver clasped her hand with his own. “For as long as there is breath in my body.”

Glad you're enjoying! Well it's my first time watching it so I'm doing it episode by episode and just picking all the cute moments which they have loads and loads. But it's taking me forever to get through it because I have a million other shows to watch so I take a bunch of breaks in between episodes. I'll hopefully finish the show by the end of the year at this rate 😂

First ship: I couldn't remember for sure earlier. But I was on the HP & Twilight fandoms years ago. So I guess Bella & Edward maybe? And at one point I remember being a Harry/Draco shipper

Currently reading: A whole lot of fan fic (Mostly Tarlos, but of course some FirstPrince too). The last book I read was I Kissed Shara Wheeler by the amazing, wonderful Casey McQuiston (finished it just 3 days ago)

Currently working on: Trying out some new recipes, reorganizing my home library (there are so many books I am yet to read) & my job as well

Current obsession: I've always been obsessed with Tennis & when the AO was on last month, I was ofc obsessed more than usual. Also, I realized that I forgot to mention this earlier, that I'm currently also obsessed with 911 Lone Star & Tarlos!

season: 2. definitely. without hesitation. season 2 is-[too many words] perfect. i love it.

bad guy: slade wilson • 1. slade 2. chase 3. malcolm

ship: olicity (no one guessed, i know it's hard to tell) • dyla, theroy, nyssara, merlance [ i have to add that i am sad and kinda mad that they ruined curtis x paul. i know people ship him with nick and i have nothing against it, but for me it was paul x curtis 🥺 i like them for them but also because i would like to see the life of a couple in which one person is a vigilante and wants to save the world through mask and one is not but supports the other AND THAT THEY ACTUALLY CAN WORK LIKE THIS WITHOUT DIVORCING. this storyline could happen, i know, i understand paul, i understand curtis, but i would just love to see a working relationship with one person doing all this vigilante stuff and the second living relatively normal life (relatively - with husband dressing in a superhero suit and punching people at night; you know what i mean🙈) . it would be nice. but i also love them 'just for them', you know. i'm sad about it so that's why this quick rant]

team (throughout the show): OTA. always and forever, one and only, yes. with sara and roy: also perfection, but OTA is 'it' for me

fav female character/fav male character: felicity smoak (unexpected, i know) / oliver queen

fav character: felicity smoak (tbh, in arrow i love almost every single character. they did good job with them. i love felicity, oliver, diggle, sara, thea, roy, tommy, i enjoyed helena's screentime, mckenna, and i like laurel, quentin, moira is an icon, sometimes a ruthless icon, but an icon all the same; i would love to see felicity — moira teaming up in later seasons soooo much; i have fanfics for that [thanks all the authors again!!]. i know all of these characters had their flaws (who doesn't) or didn't started their journey on the arrow so well, but i love them 🥹)

fav place with junk food: big belly burger (because i had to mention it)
