English doesn't even have an augmentative suffix. The can't add an ending to a noun and make it the Big™ version of that noun.
Gotta start treating english like monolinguistic english speakers treat other languages
Did you know English doesn't have a word for the Irish word 'mar'? Instead they have to say 'is the cause' of or 'because' for short
#okay neither does Hungarian but Serbian does and it's one my favourite things about it#to explain: once a friend and I realised that what we call pogácsa in Hungary and pogača in Serbian are two very differently sized concepts#the Hungarian version is tiny (think scones) and the Serbian version is more like a loaf#so I tried to be clever and said ‘so Hungarian pogácsa is just a pogačica to you’#because I knew that -ica could be a diminutive in Serbian#and he said ‘so Serbian pogača is like... a pogačina to you’#and I was like OH MY GOD DO YOU GUYS HAVE AN EMBIGGENING SUFFIX???#(because I didn't know it was called an augmentative lmao)#I dunno it's just one of my favourite moments of language nerd delight. such a cherished memory#the other one was realising the connection between tégla/tegla
