Another tag from the lovely @c-foley and @rosecorcoranwrites. :D
Concept: Post at least a paragraph of your old writing without changes so everyone can see where you came from and newer writers can be encouraged.
Age when I wrote this and/or what year it was written in: I was a baby whippersnapper in high school.
What was this piece for (fanfiction, original fiction, poetry, for class, for a school paper, etc.): Original fiction, and the first novel I finished. Took about a year. It’s about a girl who somehow picks up a supernatural electric charge and brings her laptop to life. Her uncle somehow puts the laptop being (”Ed”) in a robot body, despite this being a modern-day story. Then her parents die and WhOoOoOoO who killed them??? The idea isn’t terrible, but the execution...
Any other notes you’d like to share about this piece: It’s bad
I did this a while back and cannot believe you scallywags are making me look back at my old writing again. I’ll do it anyway, of course. :P I’ll post some random snippets because I simply cannot stomach this stuff in long stretches.
Christmas is on a Saturday this year, which means Ed’s birthday is tomorrow, a Saturday, and today he seems relatively excited about it, compared to yesterday. I’m almost finished school for today, but Ed has spent next to no time at the table. He’s been wandering around the house, moving things and asking questions about birthday celebrations. “What do teenagers usually do? Do I get a cake? What do I receive? How does the birthday song go?” Like a child.
No
“Good night.” The door is closed, and now I’m going to sleep. I hope this time nothing bad happens when I wake up. Otherwise I’ll take out my disintegrator ray and…well, maybe not the disintegrator ray. That’d be a bit much. Whatevs. I’m tired.
stop
I look down the street; nobody is coming, so I should have time to figure this out. However, it occurs to me that I might not be able to set all of this up without somebody else’s help, namely Ed. He’s good with stuff like this. I wonder if it is because he is male.
I don’t even remember writing this. Holy crap
I had a dream last night that I compared Ed to a butterfly—Ornithoptera aesacus. I looked up this butterfly after Ed left the room; now of course I didn’t hear the species name in my dream – I heard its “common” name – but as it would turn, the creature is extremely gorgeous. A fitting comparison. At any rate, compared to all the other boys I’ve met in school and such, Ed is very much an Ornithoptera aesacus – a male one – in a flood of Epiphyas postvittana. Or maybe, upon further reading, a Chrysiridia rhipheus among Pieris rapae. It’s so fun to compare him to beautiful insects, with their long, Latin names.
It isn’t fun for me
Of all things, a robot. Not even a fleshy human. Asimov would be proud. So very proud.
Well, let’s see. I think I’ll start by reading up on how to know online, and take a few quizzes to be certain. Is that nerdy? If Ed sees the history, will my cover ever be blown! Oh, snap, I don’t want that. Luckily it’s just been the two of us, with no outside source of teenage pressure.
Okay, that quiz had 30 questions…And I’m finished…I’m waiting for the reply…Oh, really, now? It is love?
Gross
Enough! I’ll tag someone else. @toboldlywrite @agwitow @quill-dagger @muffindragon227 @inkstainedswan @crazybunchwriter @kemeadows As always, you don’t have to play; tag yourself if you want to play.
