why does nobody talk about how horrible hsmtmts was in writing its main female characters lol,, and yeah,, both of them: nini and gina

like first, they're actually decent people in spite of their flaws or they have great development and come out better people,, but then when it comes to their relationships, suddenly they're somewhat aggressive and overly insecure. being insecure is normal,, being angry at your partner when they do smth stupid is normal,, but when the show portrayed it,, it was over the top for the sake of drama? for no??? reason???

like nini gaslighting ricky for being honest with his feelings when she was the one who told him to tell the truth. gina storming out and telling ej that maybe the old, worse version of him, is the real him in front of everyone, despite knowing he's highly insecure about his past. and the show sells it like we're supposed to clap and root for these "girlbosses".

don't get me wrong,, ricky and ej were weird too at some point,, actually all the characters were written badly by the end. it's rly frustrating when there was so much potential and the writers flopped towards the end of season 2 and never recovered.

To clarify since I suddenly seem to be posting about Ghost a lot recently:

I have been a (very) casual fan for a couple years now (yes I am one of the many who discovered Ghost through Mary On a Cross trending on TikTok) only having a few of their songs on my playlist and not taking my enjoyment of them too seriously. Until the announcement of Rite Here Rite Now when I decided that I immediately needed to obsessively listen to every song of theirs on repeat and dive head first into the lore to make sure I’m up to scratch with everything for the Ghovie.

So there will be a lot of Ghost related things on this blog for the foreseeable future interspersed with everything else I’m enamoured with.

one of my favourite things about caswen is how ej can read ricky like a book.

he knows within seconds of meeting him that he’s not over nini simply by making eye contact.

he knows ricky is still falling for gina (and vice versa) the moment he interacts with him again at camp.

he knows that ricky wants his electric guitar just by hearing him talk about it (even though he was technically just saying anything to avoid the truth).

but he also knows that ricky won’t confront the truth without being pushed. so he pushes him.

basically this whole ramble is me saying that my favourite caswen headcanon (it’s a bit canon) is that ej sees through ricky’s delightful charm [snark] right away.
