Unpopular opinion
Just throwing random thought out.... I just started watching Bluey with my baby niece. Which I found surprisingly cute.
So I saw the ep "The Sign" the Internet buzzed about this year. (Late to the writing party I know. But I've been busy).... so whats my unpopular opinion....
I think the show/or ep was very unfair to the father. Yes I get the point, its called Bluey for a reason. And no before someone jumps me and goes "how dare you attack the creator/or Bluey". No I'm doing either. In hindsight, I know WHY the ep ended the way it did. I honestly don't see the creators doing the whole "move to a new city", get new cast and characters. At least not enough for a new neighborhood, lol. Plus its a baby show, they want the kids to have a happy ending.
But bare that in mind the main conflict felt terrible for the father. Because and I'm gonna be real people. Realistically this DOES happen sometimes. Parents will move, whether its work/financial reasons, etc. Or in a somber note divorce. So no I didn't find it bad that the father was wanting to move for wanting better for the family.
I found it cruddy everyone, including the adults were giving him a hard time about it. Even to a small degree his wife. Yes she stood up for him. But when they finally sold the house and he had his doubts. She didn't go "Babe I'm conflicted too". She basically said "Yeah you're making a mistake". The whole "We'll make it together" lost its strong hold. Even since she still gives him gripe about it later.
Now yes, I know she's attached cause its their home, the babies took their first. But for someone from the real world, I've seen mothers who move from time to time and the move varied. Some missed their first home and some honestly told me they didn't, regardless if their babies took their first steps, etc.
In addition, I'm gonna say this... they made him feel bad for wanting more. IF this had been the other way and the wife wanted her life better. I feel the show would had been "OH YEAH GIRL POWER, GET IT GIRL!"
Now again I know its a kid show. But its kinda true. If it had been the mom or any other female character, we'd be all "empowerment". But because its the dad, the story "Dad bad for making kids upset".
And this is a personal nitpick for me. While I do know they did what they did for the show. Which I'm not complianing everything made sense. On the other hand.... since this is a kids show... I feel they missed an opportunity. To point out to kds, YES THIS DOES HAPPEN.
You will move, if its needed. (And no the Winton/Terriers cameo doesn't count). And whether we like or not, you won't get that cartoon happy ending. Because change does happen. I know it didn't mean to, but that would send a confusing message to kids who's parents do move; for whatever reason. I think should they do another move story, they should aim a bit better with helping that percentage who does move.
