Casio has revealed that it is collaborating with Ethereum scaling developer Polygon Labs to launch a virtual G-SHOCK watch on the Polygon blockchain.  The project will begin with an NFT-based G-SHOCK creator pass, which will invite users to design and vote on its appearance.  G-SHOCK Comes To The Metaverse  The collaboration will see Casio bring the G-SHOCK brand to the metaverse with the launch of Virtual G-SHOCK. Virtual G-SHOCK is a blockchain-based community co-creation program in partnership with Polygon Labs. The first step in the roadmap is the launch of a collection of 15,000 free-to-mint G-SHOCK Creator Pass NFTs later this month. There are a total of 15,000 creator passes available, which will allow users to access a dedicated Discord channel for the project. Casio customers who already have a Casio ID can participate in the upcoming pre-distribution phase, which will be held from the 23rd to the 26th of September. Following this, a public distribution will be held from the 16th to the 29th of September.  The news of the Virtual G-SHOCK comes just weeks after the company filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark application covered watches, virtual clothing, NFT-backed media, and stores for virtual goods. The company also hopes to harness the immense popularity of its G-SHOCK watch. Casio has shipped over 100 million units of its G-SHOCK watches since its launch in 1983. Speaking about the collaboration, the senior general manager of Casio’s timepiece division, Takahashi Oh, stated,  “In recent years, with the spread of the decentralized internet known as Web3, demand for experiences in virtual spaces has increased. We have launched this initiative to further expand the G-Shock brand by establishing points of contact with previously unreachable segments of the population.” According to Oh, the Virtual G-SHOCK project aims to increase the presence of Casio in the metaverse and Web3 and foster a culture of wearing watches in the virtual world.  Frictionless User Experience  Casio also shed light on its decision to select Polygon to launch its foray into Web3 and the metaverse. The company stated that Polygon enabled lightning-quick transactions, making the process of minting and managing NFTs seamless, convenient, and carbon-neutral.  “At its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was built to be accessible, innovative, and inclusive, meaning that user experience must be frictionless and simple. This is why Polygon was the most natural and logical choice for us. The goal is for the company and users to work together and develop the G-SHOCK brand, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.” Other Brands Launching NFTs  Casio joins a long list of brands that are launching a slew of projects and initiatives with Polygon. These include Adidas, Starbucks, and DraftKings. DraftKings is a sports betting firm that launched its NFT marketplace on Polygon in 2021. The project’s first drop featured NFT superstar Tom Brady. DraftKings also became a full validator for Polygon later in the year. Adidas announced an NFT project on Polygon in partnership with Prada. The project featured user-generated content.  Starbucks joined the party in April of this year, launching its own NFT collection on the Polygon network. Speaking about brands expanding on Polygon, Polygon Labs co-founder Jordi Baylina stated,  “It is inspiring to see that more and more global brands are embracing decentralization by expanding their presence in the web3 world.” Several other brands have also launched Web3 loyalty programs that feature elements of co-creation. The intimidating growl of thunder caused a shiver to run up your spine, just as a blinding streak of white flashed through the grey sky. You watched helplessly as tiny droplets of rain propelled towards the ground, pulling your hood over your head to shelter you from Mother Nature’s gift, or in your case, curse, to the earth.

It was early on a particularly cloudy Saturday morning. You managed to get yourself out of the comforts of your bed and onto the streets of the nearby shopping district, all in the hopes of getting your hands on a tray of cream puffs.

The bakery that you were currently standing outside of was well-known for their delectable pastries, which explained the long queue that extended far beyond the bakery’s glass doors. Your boss treated you and your colleagues to their signature cream puffs and egg tarts last month after signing on a new client, and you were hooked on them ever since. You began your quest to taste these delicacies again but alas, to no avail, as you often worked long hours and loved sleeping in on the weekends. Every time you entered the bakery, their cream puffs were sold out.

This Saturday was an exception. A few nights ago at Jackson’s house party, your tipsy self made a commitment to meet up with a certain mutual friend of yours over breakfast. You had little to no recollection of the nights’ events as your memory always got a little hazy after one too many drinks, but Jackson reassured you that this Jaebeom guy was quite a catch, and exactly your type too.

You laughed internally at that while shuffling forwards towards the entrance as another customer was served. Jackson had been trying to set you up with his friends for the longest time, but things never really worked out well. Either Jackson was really bad at playing the role of cupid, or his friends were just completely incompatible with you.

As your feet brought you closer and closer to your own personal heaven, the sweet, delightful scent of baked goods and pastries drifted into your nostrils. Your mouth watered, and you decided that it was definitely worth waiting in the rain for these goodies. Speaking of the rain, it seemed as though Mother Nature was determined to unleash her grievances upon the helpless humans of the city. The rain, aided by strong winds, battered down onto your already-soaked body with more ferocity, rendering the little shelter you found from the bakery’s canopy useless.

Just as you were blaming yourself for forgetting to check the weather app before leaving the house, you felt the rain stop. This was odd because all around you, rainwater splashed against the wet surfaces of pavement and roads. Looking up, you spotted an umbrella over your head.

“Are you okay?” Came an unfamiliar, deep voice from behind you. You turned around to face its owner and was met with a bright, charming smile. “It’s Y/N, right? I’m Jaebeom. I saw you across the road from my store.”

You were stunned, to say the least. When Jackson tried to convince you about Jaebeom, you had never in your wildest dreams imagined him to look like this. His hair was swept off his forehead and styled up effortlessly, seemingly unaffected by the weather, and his entire outfit was black – black t-shirt under a black leather jacket and black ripped jeans. He exuded an air of masculinity.

To top it all off, he was sporting multiple piercings on the entire expanse of his two ears, and a piercing on his lower lip. His piercings brought back memories of that night – you remembered how the boy you were trying to hold an intelligent conversation about music with was constantly distracting you with the shiny jewels on his ears and the metallic sparkle of the silver ring around his lower lip. You remembered now, he practically glowed.

Jaebeom cleared his throat, trying his best to disperse the air of awkwardness brought about by your long silence as your mind raced to process the situation at hand. “Here, drink this. You’ll feel better, you must be cold.” He placed a takeaway cup in your hands, giving you an encouraging smile. From the close proximity of your bodies, you managed to discover twin moles right under his left eyebrow. How cute.

“Jaebeom, hi!” You tried your best to sound normal and not humiliate yourself any further in front of this good-looking man. “What’s this?” You asked, indicating to the cup warming you wet and cold hands.

A hand came up to rub the back of his neck in slight embarrassment. “Jackson told me you’re a coffee addict. Cappuccino, two sugars, and extra chocolate powder, am I right?”

You were impressed. Taking a sip, you pretended to mull over the coffee he ordered for you. “That is my usual order, but it seems like they forgot to add more chocolate to it.”

“Really? We could go back to the café and ask for another-”

Your lips tugged into a mischievous smile at his flustered response. “I’m just messing with you, Jaebeom. It’s the best coffee I’ve tasted since the machine in our office broke down. Thank you, honestly.” You told him, voice laced in sincerity. “How did you find me here? We weren’t supposed to meet for another half an hour or so.”

“Well, I couldn’t let you stand in the rain alone, without an umbrella. You’ll catch a cold soon if you don’t change out of your wet clothes.” Jaebeom nagged, giving your wet hoodie a distasteful look. “I actually work at the tattoo and piercing store across the road, and I recognised your pink Adidas superstars when I was opening up. I went to buy your coffee before heading over here with the umbrella, I hope you didn’t mind waiting for so long.”

At this point you were literally swooning at the guy standing before you. He had excellent taste in fashion, cool piercings and great manners. Jackson really wasn’t lying this time. “No, not at all! It’s a miracle that you appeared at all; I was about to get completely soaked by the rain. Thank you, again, really.”

Jaebeom placed a hand on your shoulder instead of replying and urged you gently forwards as the line shortened. You found yourself enjoying the warm comfort of his skin on yours. “Why don’t we get the pastries and head over to my store? I’ve got a heater in the back office and a record player. I know we initially planned on eating breakfast by the pond at the city park, but I think it’s best if we stay indoors.”

You nodded eagerly, excited by the prospect of visiting his workplace and listening to records. From the bits and pieces of your memory, you recollected that Jaebeom was a music major and had experience being a radio DJ. You were elated at this common interest, being an avid music lover yourself. Your dad owned a record player and you hadn’t seen or touched one since moving away. “Sounds like a great idea.”

Later that morning, as the two of you were in Jaebeom’s back office, safe from the rain, you couldn’t help but to think that the cream puff you were savouring tasted sweeter and more delicious than before. Perhaps this was because of Jaebeom, who was flipping through his extensive LP collection to choose which cheesy love song to play next, while munching on a bite of egg tart you fed him. You tugged at the ends of the long sleeves of Jaebeom’s hoodie, which he insisted you changed into, to cover your hands, giving yourself an adorable case of sweater paws. Your insides felt warm and cosy. Something told you that today was the start of something special with this boy.

Only a Fool

Third Person POV:

There had been a lot of rumors at Francois Dupont College about where Marinette Dupain-Cheng had meant when she said she was moving back to her home. They all originally thought she just meant that she was dropping out of school....oh how wrong they were. Most of them had then thought that she had moved to Italy or China, and everyone else agreed. However, all of them were wrong. Marinette had moved to Gotham City, where her biological dad, Bruce Wayne, lived.

One day when it was about a month from the end of senior year for Marinette's grade, there was a new student coming in. Nobody knew much about them and nobody knew who it was, however, there were lots of rumors and theories that it was Marinette coming back. Nope, they were wrong again. The new student was a girl named Nettie, she had wavy mid-chest length brownish-blonde hair, aqua blue eyes, porcelain doll skin, she was about 5'4 and she was wearing a long sleeved teal crop top with a pullover white turtleneck sweater, black leggings and white adidas superstars. She had her long hair tied in a high ponytail with a velvet burgundy scrunchy. Once she arrived, Alya came and gave her a tour of the school and took her to the principle's office to get her schedule.

"-at's the Gym. And this is the Principal's office, I'll let you get your schedule yourself. Hope we're in the same class but I gotta get going, Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee."

Nettie knocked on the door and heard a quiet "Come in."

"Hi, I'm here to get my schedule. I'm the new student, Nettie."

"Ah yes, here you go, You'll be in Mrs.Bustier's class with Ms.Cesair, the girl who gave you the tour."

"Perfect, thank you!"

'Great! I don't have to figure out a way to get to Ms.Bustier's class without being suspicious now.' She thought to herself. She left the office and went to Ms.Bustier's classroom and walked in.

"Well class, today we have a new student as you all know, and she'll be in our class for the rest of the school year. If you would please introduce yourself."

"Hi, I'm Nettie, I moved here from America and if you all wouldn't mind I'd like to make you react to something, yeah y'all thought I was gonna be normal? Fuck no." She then clicked her pen and teleported them to a theater, it pretty much looked like a normal movie theater but with a smaller screen and less seats. Everyone sat down next to who they preferred to sit next to and got comfortable. Btw y'all Nettie isn't an OC of mine, my real name is Nettie and what I described is my best description of what I look like. And when I say porcelain doll skin I mean I literally look like a ghost.

Once they all were settled down and comfortable Nettie pressed play on the video. It was a video of Marinette as a five year old running around with a 19 year old boy and a 15 year old boy and clearly having a lot of fun, Alya immediately recognized them as Jason Todd and Dick Grayson and then noticed Bruce Wayne in the background.

"Um, Nettie, why are the Waynes with Mari?"

"Well Alya, Marinette's biological father is Bruce Wayne, she originally lived with him and his only sons at the time all the way in Gotham. She lived with them until she was 6 years old and Bruce was starting to get scared for her safety because of Gotham being such a dangerous place and sent her hear to live with her mother, Sabine."

"oh okay."

Nettie unpaused the video. It showed a few more memories until it skipped all the way to Marinette being 15 and hanging out with Conner Kent. They saw many memories similar to it but different each time.

"Are they dating?" Alya asked.

"You'll see, just wait." Nettie said with a smirk.

After a few more of the memories they got to a video, Nettie pressed play on the video and they began watching it. Marinette and Conner were singing Summer Feelings together until the song finally ended, Marinette was about to leave when Conner grabbed her hand and started singing to her.

Jon could then be seen running around and dancing to his brother's singing, making the two older teenagers laugh and Damian in the background facepalm while questioning how he was related to Marinette and why he was friends with Jon.

"Ofc you fucking dumbass, but- why'd you have to sing the whole damn song to ask me??" Marinette asked while laughing.

"Uh- 'cause I felt like it- and I'm uh- well there's no turning back now so I guess I'll have to deal with this embarrassment now-" Conner stammered.

The video ended and Adrien was almost fuming with jealousy even though it had been years since he had seen Marinette.

"Adrien, stop bein a jealous little shit. Last time I checked you were Adrien Agreste, not Barry Allen." Nettie said.

"Okay, I guess I was too late for my chance with her either way, I missed my chance." Adrien said.

"Well damn, my best friend is dating my idol's son. I feel a little left out since I wasn't informed of this until today but okay." Alya said.

They chatted for about ten more minutes until Nettie teleported them back to their classroom. Once they got back they just went on with their day as usual and felt happy for their friend.

the best thing is you

just jake, amy, and their favourite things about being parents

There are a lot of things Jake loves about being a dad: stealing his kid’s food when he can’t finish his plate, sleepy cuddles before bed, putting on voices for all the characters in his books, and wearing matching Adidas Superstars. But if he had to pick his absolute favorite number one thing, playing with Sam’s toys would come out on top.

Luckily, their apartment is filled with toys, organised by type, colour and size into various bins and baskets and labelled (Santiago Style!) so he always knows where to put stuff during tidy-up time. If Jake so much as accidentally puts one red Lego block in the yellow Lego container, Sam tuts, rolls his eyes and snitches on him to Amy later.

He has lots of toys but it’s not like he’s spoiled or anything; Amy has a big family and he gets a lot of hand-me-downs. Amy helps him write thank you cards every time he receives a new toy, they constantly remind him how lucky he is and donate his unwanted items to less lucky girls and boys.

(During one decluttering sesh, he puts his favourite truck in the giveaway pile for another kid to play with and Amy almost cries. They’re biased, but they’re pretty sure that Sam is the best kid ever).

They re-enact Ninja Turtles scenes with his action figures, roam the apartment with his dinosaurs and play shop (which consists of Sam selling Jake tinned goods that he already owns).

Both Jake and Sam’s favorite thing to play is the appropriately titled Detective Daddy game.

In short, Jake wears his badge and a tie (even over his t-shirts because, as he explains in his Grandpa Holt voice that never fails to make Sam fall over in a fit of giggles, wearing a necktie in the workplace is very important) and interrogates the three year old until he confesses to his crimes.

It usually goes like this.

“Princess Mommy has been kidnapped!”

Dramatic gasp.

“And I think you took her.”

“Me?” He clutches his chest, feigning innocence.

“I found her tiara in your bedroom, I checked the baby monitor security footage and you weren’t where you said you were and most incriminating of all, I found your fingerprints on her Amy water bottle.”

“My name’s Amy!”

(He often confuses the fact that they share one of the same names and thinks his name is Amy, not Santiago. It’s kind of adorable).

“I checked your file,” he brandishes a manila folder he stole from work and drops it on the dining room table, “and your name is Samuel.”

He gasps again. “I didn’t do it, Officer!”

“Just admit it,” Jake growls playfully, leaning forward to intimidate the suspect.

Sam climbs onto the table and closes the gap all the way, booping his nose against Jake’s and making him break character for half a second.

“Admit you kidnapped Princess Mommy,” Jake insists, tickling him until he finally surrenders.

“I did it! I did it!” He cries. “I kidnapped Princess Mommy and Queen Karen!”

Cue Jake a dramatic gasp from Jake this time.

“You’re going to jail for a long, long, long, long, long, long time!”

Jail is a pillow fort in the corner of the room.

(It’s actually cosy and super comfortable; Sam sent Jake there one time when he played the role of detective the morning after Jake had worked a night shift and he may have fallen asleep until his son decided to jump on him to wake him up so they could have more fun).

Jake scoops the dangerous(-ly cute) criminal into his arms and throws him in pillow fort prison, then rescues his Princess and Queen from the couch.

Sam can’t get enough of cop related games. It warms both Jake and Amy’s hearts that he’s so proud of what they do; it makes all the late nights and time away from him totally worth it.

Victor and Camila buy him a Police Station Lego set for Christmas and, after constructing it with mommy and daddy, it sits pride of place on top of his dresser next to a framed picture of the three of them. The next time he visits the Ninety-Ninth precinct he brags to Rosa, Charles and all the uniformed officers about how his police station is way cooler than theirs.

That very Christmas, he plays cops and robbers for the first time and kicks Santiago cousin butt. Amy high fives him in front of her brothers, thrilled that Sam is continuing her legacy of being the best at the game.

Jake will come up with elaborate (kid friendly) cases that Sam is obsessed with, for example, “oh no! Someone stole a pizza from Sal’s and is getting away!”

“Not Sal’s!” Sam cries because even at three years old, he is aware that Sal’s is the best pizza place in Brooklyn. Like father, like son.

He chases his police cars around the living room, making siren noises and eventually cutting the bad guy’s car off before he can escape towards the bedrooms down the hall.

(They’re going out for a walk when their elderly neighbour offers him one of her grandson’s fire engines that he’s got too old for. Sam declines because firefighters are for losers and the FDNY suck. Amy shoots her an embarrassed smile and herds Sam away).

When it’s time for bed and all the toys have been put away, Jake tells him the story of how a cool, leather jacket-wearing detective married the youngest female Sergeant in the history of the Nine-Nine.

Sam asks to hear it again every night.

There are a lot of things Amy loves about being a mom: baking chocolate muffins and pretending not to see when he steals some of raw mixture (even though he has chocolate all round his mouth), sleepy cuddles before bed, singing to Disney hits at the tops of their voices and trying not to cry when he brags about his mom being the youngest female Sergeant in the history of the Nine-Nine to everyone they meet. But if she had to pick her absolute favourite number one thing, teaching Sam to read and write and count would come out on top.

She was always good at school. She got the highest grades. She loved crawling into her dad’s lap and reading to him, glowing under his constant praise. She didn’t need any help with the big words unlike Tony and it wasn’t long before her teacher advised that she skip fourth grade.

She studied Art History at college, topped her class, and was the best in her group of recruits at the Academy, too.

As her brothers started having kids, she loved helping them read and, as they got older, helping them with homework. She especially loved when they would confide in her that she’s smarter than their dads. Beating her brothers, even as an adult, was still her greatest joy. Until she fell in love and had a kid of her own and beating her brothers was demoted to third spot.

The Santiago genes are just as strong in Sam.

He’s like Jake in a lot of ways: his dark, unruly curls, his nose, his sense of humour, his penchant for dramatic reveals.

(Running into their room at 5am shouting, “Mommy! Daddy! I didn’t wet the bed last night!”, for example).

But he is smart. Santiago-level smart.

He learns to count to twenty before all his friends, is a super reader and bilingual.

Amy has been singing him Spanish lullabies since he was a newborn, teaching him his “Por favor”s and “Gracias”s, whispering “Te amo” as she kisses him goodnight. She cries so hard the first time he says it back.

It’s very important to her that he can speak Spanish so they have  lessons with daddy on Tuesday nights. She buys a textbook and makes them sit opposite her at the dining room table like they’re actually in school.

“¿Cuántos años tienes?” She asks him after their first lesson.

“Tengo tres años,” he responds with a proud smile that has Amy gathering him into her arms and smothering him with kisses.

Rosa has been teaching Jake Spanish for a couple of years but his brain is so full of case details and Die Hard quotes that Sam quickly surpasses him, joining Amy on her side of the table.

“Tell mama she’s pretty,” he instructs.

He furrows his brow, immediately looking to Amy for help.

“Luces bien.”

“That was it!” He snaps his fingers. “Luces bien, Ames.”

She blushes, tucks her hair behind both her ears and flicks to the next page of the textbook. She’s only in one of his hoodies and leggings, she’s not even sure when she last washed her hair, but her husband makes her feel beautiful. Always has done, right back to the time he said her dress makes her look like a mermaid.

Along with Spanish, she teaches him basic geography. He knows that Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, that Havana is the capital city and can draw the flag with his crayons. He shows off to Camila the next time they visit and earns himself an extra cookie.

He can write his name, too, and she remarks that at age three his penmanship is already better than Jake’s.

(Jake sticks his tongue out at her, even if it’s true).

Like Amy, he loves books. Loves the silly voices Jake makes as he reads, loves reading along with Amy and love love loves reading the book of Jake and Amy (illustrated by Terry) that Jake has made for his fourth birthday.

“Don’t you want to read a different book tonight?” She questions foolishly. They’ve read it three nights in a row.

“Nope,” he grins. “Mommy and daddy’s book.”

Her heart melts as she opens the book and he snuggles into his arms.

“It was her first day at the Nine-Nine...”

After an interrogation that went on longer than expected, Jake missed dinner and bath time and had to break several speed limits to get home in time for his bedtime story and goodnight kisses.

He locks the apartment door behind him and follows the sound of Amy’s voice to Sam’s bedroom, recognizing the story immediately.

“I’m hearing wedding bells!” Amy reads, doing a spot on impression of Charles’ voice.

Jake stifles a laugh, leaning against the doorframe and listening to his wife recite the story he knows so well.

There are a lot of things they love about being parents, but at the end of the day, watching Sam play and learn and cuddle their spouse is the best thing of all. And soon they will get to watch them do it all over again with Baby Peralta 2: Peralta Harder.

The first couple of months, they don’t think anything of it. Trying to make a baby is fun and magical and neither of them are gonna complain about having more sex.

She consults the baby binder a little more as time goes on and her period arrives on the twenty fifth of each month like clockwork. They throw out their favourite take out menus, start eating healthier and run together every morning before work.

They also buy a new couch and a family friendly mid-size sedan and the cutest baby Adidas Superstars she’s ever seen, because they’re convinced that they’ll be pregnant before they know it and Amy Santiago is nothing if not prepared.

They schedule sexy times and foreplay and fantasise about what their baby will be like in their post-sex haze.

When that doesn’t work, they try The Jake Way: a super sexy mission to rescue her husband from kidnappers ending in a super sexy Airbnb tryst.

Still, the pregnancy test comes back negative.

As the leaves turn from green to amber and the air cools, forcing Amy to get out their winter coats and turn their apartment heating up to high, she starts to worry. They’re doing everything right, they’re taking the vitamins, eating healthy, having sex all the time. There must be a reason why it isn’t working.

After watching an episode of Friends on their new couch -- The One With The Fertility Test -- she decides to book them a doctor’s appointment.

“As a precaution,” she tells her husband when he furrows his brow in concern.

“Uh, OK, yeah, sure,” he agrees, pausing the episode.

She phones the doctor, books the first available appointment (Monday at 2.15 pm) and adds it to their joint calendar. “Snuggle with me?” She asks once he has accepted her invite.

“C’mere.” He pulls her into his arms and holds her tight as she cries into his shirt.

They don’t watch any more Friends. It hurts too much, seeing her favourite fictional couple going through the same heartbreak as them. They don’t watch much TV at all, not even Die Hard. The trailer for the new Babies documentary starts playing as she flicks through Netflix one night while Jake is working late and she almost breaks the TV with the way she throws the remote across the room.

The doctor’s appointment rolls round and they’re both nervous as hell.

They booked the entire day off work as advised by the kind receptionist on the phone, who warned them that they would be extremely emotional both before and after. Booking the day off was an ordeal in itself when Terry wrongfully assumed they were getting a sonogram. There was a crushing feeling in Amy’s chest listening to her husband explain that no, they’re not pregnant, not yet.

Not yet.

They hold hands tightly as they wait for the doctor to call them in. Jake bounces his leg, Amy chews her lower lip, they both try not to cry when another couple walks in with a baby in one of those carriers that all the cool dads seem to wear. Jake’s been eyeing them up online for months. If John Legend can rock the baby carrier look, so can he.

“Why are they at the fertility clinic when they’ve already made one?” Amy mutters darkly.

The doctor says their names before Jake can respond.

He squeezes Amy’s hand as they follow the doctor to her room, a silent reminder that they’re in this together.

They have to explain the issue -- how long they’ve been trying, whether Amy has suffered any previous miscarriages, what their lifestyles are like. It’s a little embarrassing, going into the specifics of their sex life, but it’s all for a good cause. The best cause. “You’re doing everything I would usually recommend to my patients,” she says and despite herself, Amy’s lips twitch into a tiny smile. She knew her research was thorough. “Sometimes your body takes time to adjust to coming off birth control or reacts badly to stress. Sometimes it just takes a while and there’s no real reason why. We’ll take some samples from you both, but my advice is to just keep doing what you are.”

The tests come back negative, which should be good news, but it just sucks even more.

If there’s nothing wrong with them then why can’t they get pregnant?!

As they grapple with their situation, it seems like everyone around them is getting pregnant. Celebrities on Instagram. A couple of Amy’s uniformed officers. Santiago cousin after Santiago cousin. Hitchcock and that Russian chick with the missing tooth.

She tries to be happy for them, she really does, the façade crumbling as soon as she’s alone with Jake and sobbing into his shirt again.

They get hammered at Hitchcock’s wedding and attempt to have sex in the bathroom, alley and supply closet at work before giving up and just having sex in their own apartment, in their own bed. It’s not as crazy as Hitchcock’s story, but it’s still pretty hot and the sex is as stupid good as it’s always been.

She really thinks it’s worked this time. She’s got the sickness, the sore boobs, her period is late...

Jake runs to the store to get a new pregnancy test and a cute onesie he saw and just had to buy. They’re both positively vibrating as she chugs a litre of water, pees on the stick and sets the timer on her phone.

It’s second nature to them now, waiting for the test to say Pregnant.

Amy paces the width of the bathroom.

Jake twists his wedding ring on his finger.

They share apprehensive smiles.

When the timer finally goes off, Amy picks up the test, feeling hopeful for the first time in months.

Her face falls. “Negative.”

“We’ll try again next month,” he promises as she throws it into the trash. She is so sick of hearing next month, next month, next month. She wants a baby now.

Which is why the decision to stop trying is so painful.

She doesn’t want to stop. All she wants is to see Jake holding a baby -- their baby. But nothing is working and the last six months have been so difficult, a literal rollercoaster of excitement, disappointment, excitement, disappointment. And Amy has never liked rollercoasters.

She feels guilty, like it’s her fault they haven’t got pregnant yet, like she’s just bad at making babies. She confides in Rosa about it and she knows Jake talks to Charles, their friends both coming to the conclusion that as much as they want this for them too (and Charles really, really does), they’re clearly exhausted and sad and stressed and maybe taking a break would be a good thing.

So she tells Jake she’s done trying.

It’s hard enough to walk away from him, from their dream of having a family, and even harder to go to Hitchcock’s party and pretend like everything’s fine when it’s not fine. Everything is garbage, just like Holt said at Captain Dozerman’s funeral.

But then Jake joins her at the bar with a slice of cake with a heart on top and is all sweet and understanding and the best husband she could have possibly asked for. He tells her that they’re already a family and whether the universe wants them to be just a two or a whole squad of Peraltas, he’ll be happy either way.

“I love you,” she says after he finishes his speech.

“I love you,” he responds.

They lean in for a kiss. It starts off sweet, gentle, heating up when she realises just how much she’s missed this, kissing him without the constant pressure of needing to conceive. It feels nice.

“Should we go?”

“Yes,” he answers immediately, without question.

They use their final pregnancy test a couple of weeks later. It’s still negative, but it doesn’t feel like the end of the world anymore. They’ve taken down the command center, getting their living room back, their morning and evening routines are so much shorter now they’re not taking all the vitamins and sex is considerably more enjoyable. Sure, they still want kids one day -- they both smile wistfully every time they pass a stroller in the street and volunteer for regular babysitting duties -- and when the universe finally grants them a beautiful baby of their own, they will no doubt be the happiest parents this side of the East River, but for right now they’re OK, just the two of them, their little family, their own slice of perfection.

“Me and mommy missed you too,” he responds and God, Jake loves his job but he’s willing to walk into Holt’s office and hand over his badge and gun right now if it means spending more time with his favourite little guy, his best bud, his son; Leo says he loves him so much and if Jake still had any lingering doubts about the Peralta curse, his son’s adorably on brand declaration well and truly eviscerates them.
