Okay so I finished watching the sandman and of course I enjoyed it (especially because I loved the comics and wanted to see how they’d solve changing media to the screen) but I gotta say I’m a so disappointed in Johanna Constantine that had so much potential to be one of the more interesting characters.
The gender bending is fine and all, but I felt like they didn’t push her character enough for it to be enjoyable. She should’ve been a barely functioning insomniac mess of a human being depending on exorcisms and barely legal magic to get money and repent for past mistakes. She should’ve been sarcastic, suspicious and deeply traumatised, using humour as a way of coping. Not upbeat, sassy and constantly smirking in a pretty white coat.
Petition to make female characters just as flawed and broken as their male counterparts ☹️
