core difference between nbc chas and comics chas for me essentially boils down to where they stand with john and how big a role the supernatural plays in their lives. i mean:

nbc chas: is currently seeing & supporting john at his lowest, is often playing the muscle against supernatural creatures & has to consider his own personal safety in every plan that john makes, has access to the behind-the-scenes of planning & knows how often john is just flying by the seat of his pants.

he has confidence in john's abilities but very little real trust or faith, and feels the need to temper the recklessness with reminders of his own mortality.

comics chas: sees john once in a blue moon or when being asked a favor, only really experiences john's lows after personal conflict with people (rather than after near-world-ending events), is actively prevented from being at the heart of most supernatural conflicts unless sucked in unintentionally, sees the end results of john's planning (where he succeeds) more than the process (where he sacrifices).

he does not have a fucking clue what it is that john actually does, exactly, but will rely on him for help without hesitation, follow him to the ends of the earth without question, and beat the brakes off anyone who tries to stop him with pleasure.
