Alright so I’m like Actually putting teams together, for Naofumi I’ve got Absol, Torterra, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, Bastiodon, and I kinda wanna give him Shaymin too - here’s the reasoning/stories:
- His starter was a Turtwig because I can’t not give him the Turtwig line. Imagine him running around with a teeny tiny turtle for five seconds. You agree. Also because Torterra has that sweet sweet parallel with the life tortoise and I eat that shit UP. It’s also written in one of Torterra’s Pokédex entries that Torterra is incredibly kind to and protective of the small Pokémon that live on its back, which is honestly the most Naofumi shit. He wasn’t exactly the nicest to his Turtwig in the beginning (which is understandable yet still reprehensible), not just because of his Very Fresh Rage and Hurt, but because his Turtwig doesn’t have the best stats. It takes a long time for it to grow and has astonishingly low attack and special attack, even for the Turtwig line. For most of the events of s1 it’s still a Grotle, and it evolves into Torterra right before the life tortoise arc starts. It’s so desperate to make Naofumi happy and proud, to be the Pokémon of the Hero it’s supposed to be, but it’s so painfully aware of how weak it is.
- I really love the entries for Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark in relation to Naofumi. Much like with Absol, the little Zorua took one look at Naofumi and went “oh shit same hat”. It’s about the sympathy of one exiled, hated being turned vengeful spirit for another, it’s about the compassion and camaraderie from the only beings who can commiserate, it’s about the beautiful parallels between Naofumi’s Zoroark and Raphtalia’s Zoroark, it’s about the dichotomy between his Zoroark and his Absol, it’s about the twin healing journeys between Pokémon and trainer, it’s about the deep-seated sense of community buried under the trauma and the hurt, iTS ABOUT!!!! THE EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! His Zorua is the first Pokémon he catches, fresh out of his fall from grace, when he gets found half-dead from exposure by a pack of Zorua. One of them manages to convince their Zoroark to take him back to their den and care for him. Seeing the sorry state he and his Turtwig are in, and feeling the kindred spirits between them, the Zorua that did all the convincing decided to go with Naofumi. Did the Zoroark like it? No, but it let the Zorua go anyway.
- Bastiodon! I’m sorry, did you not expect me to give the Shield hero the Pokémon with a Shield for a FACE??? Also the mental image of Naofumi running around with two tiny turtles at the beginning is very cute and I love it, it’s what he deserves <3 Shieldon was the second Pokémon he caught himself, when he and Raphtalia were clearing out the ore mines around Lure. It was the last (and the smallest) of a colony of Shieldon and Bastiodon that had either been killed or run out of the caves by the monsters that settled there. The little guy wanted revenge, so when it saw Naofumi and Raphtalia battling the monsters it jumped right in and started helping. And then it didn’t leave him alone - it started a fight with Naofumi’s Turtwig, won, and proceeded to claim one of Naofumi’s unoccupied pokeballs as its prize. I love this Pokémon so fuckin much and I just made it up. Like I need you all to understand, this lil fucker is a Bastard, a reckless little shit, cocksure and steadfast and stubborn.
- He has an Absol because Absol is my favorite Pokémon of the parallels between Naofumi’s image and reputation and Absol’s image and reputation. It’s about the misplaced blame on a good-hearted and well-intentioned being and the inexorable urge to keep trying to help Despite That. Also Absol is my favorite Pokémon and he deserves one <3 Absol was the third Pokémon he caught, right after the first Wave he fought off. It had warned Lure that the Wave was coming, and saw how Naofumi defended and evacuated the town even as they hated him for being the Shield Hero. In other words, Absol took one look at Naofumi and went “oh shit same hat”. It found him after the Wave was gone and quietly (but insistently) nudged at another one of Naofumi’s unoccupied pokeballs until he caught it. I will Absol-utely (HA) write the scene at some point because I have it so clear in my head, but basically Naofumi and his Absol have a very mutually respectful relationship. Very self recognition through the other of both of them, honestly.
- I changed my mind on giving him a Shaymin. Much as I love the mental image of the terrifying, powerful Shield Hero surrounded by all his equally terrifying, powerful Pokémon plus a teeny tiny grass hedgehog on his head, Shaymin doesn’t fit him as well as Phantump/Trevenant does. It’s the penultimate Pokémon added to the party, right after he takes care of the Bio Plant Seed situation in Lerno. Basically, once he kills the quasi-sentient plant, it leaves (HA) room for a monsterified villager’s soul to take root (H A) and be reborn as a Phantump. It essentially imprinted on him, helped him modify the seeds into something Actually Helpful, and promptly followed him around until he caved and gave it a pokeball of its own.
- He also needs a very angry, very powerful dragon, which is why he’s got a Hydreigon. I think in this AU it’s the dragon he, Raphtalia, and Filo almost died to for that one mountain village that one time. All their Pokémon were down, Raphtalia and Filo were unconscious, and Naofumi…well, he doesn’t actually remember what happened. All he remembers is slowly, painstakingly patching everyone up enough to get them back to town with a new pokeball on his belt with a very angry, very overleveled Hydreigon inside. It doesn’t listen to him half the time, but it’s strong enough that Naofumi knows it can handle anything the Waves throw at them. In a desperate enough situation, he brings Hydreigon out without balking at the cost to his allies.
God fucking damnit this Pokémon au won’t leave me alone

Genesis - A story that deals in coincidences, parallelism, the multiverse theory, and never in absolutes. Twelve-year-old adventurer, Alecks, enters the parallel world of Rosa with intent to slay the dragon that resides there in order to receive its blessing for a long, happy life - except, while there, he’s tasked with repairing a rift in space-time that will eventually reduce Rosa and its inhabitants to nothing if left alone.
Ouroboros - A story about friendship, growing up, moving on, and the unpredictable tides of fate (or a lack thereof). Twelve teenagers - six aliens and six humans - must create a new universe to replace the one they’ve lost, protect it from the hungry maws of a world-devouring serpent Zodiac, discover who they are, where they belong, and wrestle with god-like powers, infinity, and themselves.
The World of Effia - An old-fashioned, mostly wholesome exploration of adolescence and the difficulties and intricacies of identity. Katy, Todd, Milo, and Luca are four teenage adventurers living on the island of Effia who want nothing more than to help their friends and lift up their community. Unfortunately, a chance encounter with a cursed mirror turns Katy’s world upside-down and introduces Kit, a mean and abrasive shade, into her life.
Let’s Roll Initiative! - A Dungeons and Dragons-based story where the stats are made up and your rolls don’t matter, centered on the enthusiastic wood elf wizard, Dil Loreweaver, and her ragtag, badly-balanced adventuring party as they try to solve the mystery of why the stars no longer shine in the night sky, who might be behind this unusual phenomenon, and why.
Glorious Mishaps - Ginger Gray and Pepper Gray are a mother and son duo who have devoted their lives to training Pokemon. For good or for bad, however, Pepper is quite the rebellious firecracker, and is determined to follow his mother’s footsteps in becoming Grand Champion of the League challenge. These are a retelling of his crazy escapades, oftentimes in the form of Nuzlockes. Later installments introduce Blair Gray, the soft-spoken child of Pepper and grandchild of Ginger.
Oakley and the Fifth Wild - Oakley (a human) and Blair (a deer-man) join forces to prevent the fantastical world of Saccharine from going grayscale by bringing the five Avatars of creation back together. In heavy development.
Starstruck - A scrapped Homestuck fan-adventure that’s no longer seriously being worked on.
Friendstuck - Also a scrapped self-insert Homestuck fan-adventure that is no longer being seriously worked on and is used mostly as a guilty pleasure nowadays. It was first started as a DnD campaign for my friends.

Riley’s Aura Abilities
Tumblr media
Given that Riley is an extremely proficient Aura User since birth, he’s been able to develop his natural talent in many ways. He constantly works to improve these abilities in the hopes that when the time comes he will be ready to use them to help or save others. His abilities are as follows:
Manipulation and Projection: Riley is able to project his own aura in various forms, as well as manipulate it. In addition, he is able to call upon the flow of aura around him to further enhance and strengthen his own projections. Initially, it was only the ability to project small, non-harmful aura spheres, resembling balls of light. However, he has been known to project an aura barrier as early as the age of six, and by age 13 he was able to project a damaging aura sphere of his own. The most notable example of this was in the Pokemon Anime, where he and Lucario encapsulated an explosion that would destroy the entire island, and safely moved it hundreds of feet above the island, ensuring that nobody was hurt. (It is worth mentioning that he was more exhausted than his Lucario after performing that task.)
Physical Augmentation: Riley is able to enhance his own body with the power of aura, allowing him to move faster, jump higher, and resist more damage than a normal person can, although not as much as some pokemon can. He can also lift more than he normally would otherwise, but currently augmentation is not as strong as the others. To protect himself, he is more likely to use a projected barrier rather than block it with his body.
Aura Vision (Eyes Closed): There are two kinds of aura vision: eyes open and eyes shut. Both are somewhat of a form of synesthesia with the “sixth sense” that Aura users are known to have. Eyes shut is similar to how a Lucario will sense aura (see Lucario and the Mystery of Mew!). Colors are rarely seen in this state, and usually it only happens when the person being looked at has a very special aura. However, the vision is often tinted blue. When an Aura user meditates, they are often practicing this form of Aura Vision, at least in part. Riley has been able to perform this ability since a young age, although he did not know what it was until after he finished his trainer journey.
Aura Vision (Eyes Open): This form of aura vision is where aura colors are involved. They often can be used to help determine someone’s state of mind and emotions, as well as their general personality. There are partially and fully color blind versions of this ability; the color-blind version is essentially equivalent to the “Eyes Closed” version without the closed eyes. Riley has been able to see Aura since he was young, but was not able to see color until more recently, and he is currently getting used to these colors and what they mean.
Aura Sensing: Riley is able to naturally feel the aura around him, as well as feel how other living beings make impressions on the flow of aura around him. In more complicated living beings such as people and pokemon, these impressions are often in relation to thoughts and feelings. As a result, Riley intuitively is able to pick up these feelings, to the point where a young person would be hyper empathetic around others with intense emotions. Growing up, Riley had to learn to sense and feel other people’s emotions without being consumed.
Aura Sensing (Detection): Because Riley is able to naturally feel the aura around him, he is able to detect movements easily, and even the intent to move a split second before it happens. During his early years, this was present but untrained. Now, with intense training, Riley is able to sense and detect auras within a Lucario’s range, detect fast moving objects before a normal person can, and even detect intent to act before they move, allowing him to react a split second before someone else does. However, it still takes some time to react and process this information, and often times the time needed to react is so short that Riley cannot move early enough to obtain his desired outcome.
Imbuing: Riley is a novice at aura imbuing, only able to imbue his necklace with his own Aura. As a result, he is able to sense the location of his necklace, and is able to enhance his aura abilities with his necklace on. He is currently testing to see if he can imbue other objects with his own aura.
Telepathy: Riley is able to communicate with other people and pokemon through telepathy, but only to ones that he has an extremely close bond with. Currently, this is limited to his Lucario in full capacity, and some of his other pokemon in minor capacity. He is also able to hear and understand Lucario’s own inner voice, allowing them to converse telepathically.
Healing: Riley is able to use aura to heal himself and others of minor wounds and scratches. In addition, he can accelerate the healing of Major wounds, although this ability is not as useful due to major wounds often requiring immediate medical attention. As a result, it is better for him to try and stabilize the injury through a mix of his aura and application of first aid. He does have some ability to rapidly heal major wounds, but it would take out so much energy from him that he would pass out. In addition, due to his lack of medical expertise, Riley worries that this rapid healing would do more harm than good, and thus will not use this healing unless he has no other choice. Effectively, Riley has minor healing capabilities with Aura.
