jackass with morals

 so you say you've got a heart of gold under those layers of crabby sarcasm and natural attractive qualities, sure. but here's the thing--it's not gold, it's warmth, and that's why it's guarded so heavily. you care deeply, even though you might hate it the whole time. you're annoyed with the way things are, and find evil more inconvenient that anything else, mostly because at your core, you don't understand why inflicting pain is appealing. so yeah, you talk and walk like you're soured and spoiled, but really, it doesn't fool anyone.

the quiet observer

 your soul is like a sponge, absorbing so much of the universe sometimes you feel like you're drowning. you wish you could make your heart a little stronger. but your gentleness is not weakness and neither is your sensitivity. you feel so much more than everyone else. it makes you kind even to those who don't deserve it. it makes you notice the hidden tears and the covered scars. you wonder who will save the ones who are suffering in silence, don't you know that includes you too?

reluctant chosen one

 this is usually a teenager flung about by forces outside of their control, but it can also be anyone picked for a higher calling to a cause they don't believe in. your mission isn't just to complete the task at hand--it's about coming to your own conclusions, and finding the system is corrupt from the inside out. it's about returning the favor, and embracing righteous anger as a form of self-liberation. sure, you'll save the world. you'll also fuck up the people who made you do it.

the protecting nurturer

you have the heart that belongs to a warrior's mother. you ache for your loved ones and you'll fight to preserve their smiles. you take care of the people around you. you want them to feel safe and warm. you do anything to protect those around you, even if it's from themselves. you have an eye for the details no one else realizes they need. you're the one that makes a house a home. you make sure it's safe because you know what it was like to be afraid of the places that should have been comforting.

 now this isn't so much a protagonist as it is someone with a lack of boundaries. but hey. who am i to judge. you're here because you just are. things happen to you, you don't happen to things. there's no "fateful day", there's simply "ah, shit. here we go.". and to be fair--it truly can be so enriching, and a lot others around you might've missed out on some of these life-altering adventures you got to be a part of. but consider--you can't be a side character to your own life. whether you feel it or not, you do matter. so stop the car, or drive yourself for a little. it'll be worth it.

the wonderlust heart

your soul longs for your adventure. sometimes you're filled with so many ambitions and dreams you think you might burst. you rush about in a frenzy, afraid to miss out on all the opportunities life has to offer. you see the world with all it's light and all its darkness and can't help but see something beautiful in every part. every star and every shadow. you say you're running towards your goals, but sometimes i think you're trying to escape the ugly things you couldn't paint over.

o'malley absolutely believes in love at first sight, and he's got two types. either super loving and soft sweethearts or horrible bastards that are terrible to everyone but o'malley. he's got a talent for taming menaces to society. (i mean he's married to the equivalent of satan in his universe, that took some work)

technically even gakuto would fall under the second category; he's not too much of a bastard as an adult but he sure isn't winning any popularity competitions for friendliness. i personally think thats hilarious since gakuto n o'malley kinda share the number 1 position of my favorite ocs

“ Are ye alright ?”

Eike felt her partner's hand touch hers and their fingers intertwine. She makes an effort to sit up, Bunny reaches for her back to help her up. “ Am not  supposed t’be here-'' The Scot continues in a hushed voice, “-the bastards said I wasn’t supposed tae leave my room…” 

Their eyes flicker toward the door, a scowl taking over their features. It’s Eike who brings them back when she smiles. “ They have no idea who they were talking to,” She whispers. Her free hand finds her hair, pushes it back behind her ear, then the side of her head. The pads of her fingers linger on the bandage and her smile slowly fades into blankness. “ Bunny? How long was I asleep? How-” She stops before she can break down, blinking to try and keep the tear from falling. A few manage to slip from the corners of her eyes and the ginger gives up.

“ Today marks a week,” Bunny tells her. They wipe Eike’s cheeks with their thumb, their hand cradles her cheek.“ It’s not bad-Sage an’ Ah aren’t in bad shape Ah mean. Nothing worth keeping us here for a fuckin’ week. Ah think they plan on taking us to the Council when-” They shut their mouth. The Scot looks up at the ceiling to keep themself from shedding any tears as well, their dark irises glittering in the artificial light. 

Eike attempting to sit catches their attention, causing them to put their hands on her shoulders. “ No’ a good idea, Shortcake,' they warn her. '' Lara's still in recovery-Ah know where she’s being kept, it’s just hard to go to her without one of th’nurses stopping me.” 

“ So she is-she’s alive right? The doctors and-and everyone helped her?” Eike manages. She swallows when the images of her best friend having her throat slit assault her memory: the large knife the hunters used, how they threw Lara down and beat her, when they stabbed her first and cursed her existence, then they picked her up by a fistful of her hair…

“ She’s as alive as ever,” Bunny responds, not bothering to conceal their own surprise. “ When Ah last saw her, she was asleep. Ah don’t ken if she’s even opened her eyes yet.” 

Eike lets out a shaky sigh of relief; even with how much she aches and feels like screaming until her lungs give out, she’s able to decide that she must go on for Lara. That they all must go on for each other.

Her arms gently lift and Bunny leans into her embrace. They run their fingers through her hair while Eike tries to keep herself from crying, going so far as to bite the inside of her cheek. Bunny is keeping it together for her, so she shall do the same. 

“ Where’s Sage?” She finally asks, her voice cracking.

She pulls herself away to look at Bunny when they don’t answer. “ Where is he?” Eike repeats. 

“ Asleep…I haven’t told him where Lara is.” They reveal, “ He cuidn’t get to her like Ah cuid. Ah told him he’s no more of use than th’rest of us if he doesn’t focus on getting better. Of course I didn’t have to tell him-he’s not an absolute fool.” 

Bunny suddenly flinches, puts a finger to their lips, cracks begin to run across their skin, eyes-everywhere-before they allow themself to fall off the side of the bed, breaking and falling apart into a black dust that leaves no trace of existence on the floor. 

“ Miss Breisacher?” A nurse announces from behind the curtain. “ Miss Breisacher, are you awake?” She pokes her head through the small safe, making eye contact with a  frozen Eike. 

“ It’s time for your pain medicine, and I’ve brought dinner as well.” The nurse enters the curtained space, a tray balanced on the palm of her hand. 

Eike realizes she doesn’t really feel any pain right now. She should be in agony, considering her wounds. They must have her taking something heavy. 

She offers the nurse a couple of nods, her eyes follow the older woman as she pulls the table from beside the bed and sets the tray down in front of the teenager. A big bowl of steaming soups has been placed down in the center, crackers and fruit complimenting it. At the corner a couple of round pills and a small plastic cup of water are waiting. Eike takes them first then reaches for the crackers, freezing like a deer once again when a cold hand stops her. 

“ Sorry, Miss Breisacher, but I must ask you to open your mouth and lift your tongue. Can’t have you spitting these out after I leave.” The nurse speaks politely though her face gives away that what she’s describing has happened too many times for her to trust her patients anymore. 

Eike pulls her arm away before obliging. 

The nurse's lips tighten. “ Thank you, Miss.” She leaves without saying anything else. The whole exchange feels strange. 

“ Are ye okay, Shortcake?” Bunny’s head pops up on the ginger’s right side and they climb onto the end of the bed. “ Ah think they made her stay for the night shift to punish me-Ah didn’t exactly make a good impression wi’ her,” They admit. “ Ah didn’t fight her-Ah just may have scared her a bit. They don’t want to understand that Ah didn’t recognize where Ah was, the assholes.”

“ She made me take medication-she said it was pain medication but the other patients have spit it out before?” Eike raises her brows at the Scot. 

Bunny only makes a small ‘pfft’ noise. “ The mean bitch is havin’ her fun…” They mutter, more to themself than Eike. “ Don’t worry, it’s pain medication an’ sleep medication. The strong stuff-which means I don’t have much longer with ye tonight.” 

“ Will you stay awhile before I sleep?” The ginger pleads. She reaches out for Bunny and they intertwine their fingers.

“ Always, my sweet. Those dimwits can’t keep me away from ye.”
