#nuance across on that platform so I'm vaguing about it here instead.

I understand why everybody is wary of "synergy," and I obviously-- obviously!!!-- am all about criticizing Billy's casting+adaptation in the M C U, but I do not think it's fair or helpful to throw out accusations of antisemitism and whitewashing every time an artist draws him with earrings and eyeliner, or even with a crown. The M C U did not originate those elements of the character design. He's looked like that in the comics before, and it's not uncommon in fanart, cosplay, etc. My rendition of the character has looked like this for over a decade. I've also styled him with a version of Wanda's headpiece, which, again, is something I've seen fanartists doing for years. I'm gitano. Are you going to tell me that I'm doing erasure because I also happen to be a gay person who wears makeup?
Obviously, I get that some of these design elements are gonna be a little more popular now because of the show, but short of literally using the actor's likeness, I just.... don't feel like it's that big of a deal. Even the suit is really similar to what he wears in the comics. It just seems like splitting hairs, and it kind of goes to show that a lot of people are more concerned with shallow and tokenizing ideas about the imagery of these cartoon characters, than they are with engaging meaningfully with intention, context, and content.
#I've been wanting to say this on twitter bc that's where a lot of this conversation seems to be happening but it is so fucking hard to get#nuance across on that platform so I'm vaguing about it here instead.#Saw someone going in on a piece of Marvel Rivals fanart where Billy was very very clearly designed to look like the game's version of Wanda#literally as far as I can tell just bc he was wearing a version of her headpiece. It didn't even look like the tv design.
