#npmd had so many (incredibly impressive!) tracking shots and angles that both gave us a view of the stage impossible to see live

A lot of people in the notes are pointing out the fact that studio vocals from the cast recording were mixed in rather than fully using live vocals and i can’t honestly say I noticed this but I did feel like there was something off about it and this is exactly it. One, there is not a single Starkid who isn’t just as good live as they are on the albums and there is no reason to cover up the live performance; Two, part of the point of the proshot is to record the musical as it was performed. That includes the choreo, that includes the staging, that includes the vocals.
The live audio is always good and sometimes better than the album and the albums are generally good for listening while the live performance enhances the story. Fully agree with everyone saying that the recording should use the original audio.
My one hope for Cinderella’s Castle is that the proshot isn’t so over produced like npmd. The npmd proshot is gorgeous visually but completely loses so much of the choreography and staging due to its amount of close ups and cuts. I just want a good view of the staging in each scene that lets me see the choreography well.
#it’s. I understand that they are trying to make the proshot look as ‘professional’ as possible#but in doing so they’ve started treating them like movies rather than recordings of live shows#which :/ I’m not a fan of. I think it defeats the purpose.#I’m incredibly grateful to Starkid because I don’t always have a lot of access to live theatre#and they’ve done so much to make theatre accessible and have inspired similar projects#but I felt a little let down by npmd on YouTube because as much as I loved the music and story#it don’t feel like I’ve really seen the musical. I’ve seen a VERSION of it but not what was actually performed.#people who saw it live had a different experience than I did#which is obviously true of any show I’ve seen a proshot of#but I’ve never been as aware of it as I was with npmd.#I haven’t felt this way about any other starkid show. they have plenty of wide shots and keep their camera angles mostly level#and were still able to include close ups and many angles.#npmd had so many (incredibly impressive!) tracking shots and angles that both gave us a view of the stage impossible to see live#while also rarely letting us see The Stage as a whole#it takes a lot of talent to film and edit the way they did but it’s not at all to my taste#and I admit it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who noticed the change#nerdy prudes must die#Cinderella’s castle#team starkid#musical theatre#hatchetfield#the lands that are
