And this lil one is a lesser cambion and Mephistopheles' youngest child, Muriel. The rumors have it there were 2 of them originally: twins named Muron and Urial; and they hated each other so ardently they swore to destroy the other. It is unknown which one of the siblings emerged victorious and which - perished. Only Muriel is left, a strange mix of two hateful twins, a chaotic echo in the order of their father's domain.
Muriel has stricken a tricky deal with mortal what cost them everything: now they're exiled from every circle of Hell and forced to wander the realm of mortals in the search of salvation from the disease they themselves helped to implant.

Here's what Team Tadpole would do for you for valentine's day!
Karlach: She would get you the absolute BIGGEST plushie she could find, and chocolates. Post-upgrades, she would cuddle the plushie for a few nights beforehand so it smells like her. She'd probably bring you to a carnival- One that *isn't* infested with shapeshifters this time -and try to take turns winning each other prizes.
Wyll: Wyll Ravengard spares no romantic gesture. He brought you your favorite flowers and decided to take you out dancing! He wanted to finish off the night with a romantic walk on the beach, but Mizora crashed your date, and now the three of you are playing board games because she wouldn't leave- Which Wyll isn't exactly happy about, but he's content as long as he gets to spend time with you.
Gale: Gale would probably make you a home-cooked meal in his tower back at home and absolutely shower you with affection and little magic tricks to dazzle the eyes. He's constantly seeking that approval, so you'd better believe he's going all out.
Halsin: Halsin would take you on a picnic in the prettiest part of the woods he could find, and surprise you with a special wild garden bed of your favorite flowers. He'd also have a whittled duck for you.
Shadowheart: Shadowheart would bring you a single night-blooming flower and a bottle of wine. She'd probably take you somewhere dark and secluded where you could simply spend the night enjoying each other's company, away from the rest of the world.
Astarion: Astarion is happy to do almost anything as long as he's with you. You stopped by his grave to leave flowers- A cute gesture he's likely become accustomed to. Perhaps he takes you out to dinner, or to a play he knows you've been wanting to see, but the real treat is when he takes you back home to cuddle and read together. Horror novels and shocking favorites only.- You wouldn't expect it, but he does voices for the characters if you get him to read out loud. His faked accents are awful, but it's cute.
Ascended Astarion: Awe, you didn't think I'd leave you guys out, did you? So. He's likely to do something flashier. A wine tasting, or maybe take you to get a new outfit tailored to fit you perfectly. It doesn't match anything you'd actually choose to wear, but it paints the perfect picture of the vampire consort trophy spouse he's decided that you are. He keeps setting up little things that you feel are supposed to make you happy, but it's filled with a harsh coldness and an empty stare. You've all but given up hope that the Astarion you know and love is still in there until the night comes to a close, and he brings you home. He's being strangely affectionate and sweet. Cuddly. At first, you take this as a sign of better days - until he won't stop biting you, no matter what you say or do. Eventually, he's taken so much blood that you pass out; and you wake up in your locked chambers alone with a pretty, expensive necklace and roses. No note. It doesn't even matter if roses are your favorite flower or not. He doesn't care.
Lae'zel: She didn't know Valentine's Day was a thing. She can't pronounce it and literally had no idea why everyone was making a big deal about the holiday, etc. She was, however, very surprised when you brought her a gift. She tried to seem uninterested in the whole "mushy, romantic stuff," but you could practically see her heart melt when you made a romantic gesture. You spent the rest of the day together - She probably tried to bring you out hunting or sparring.
Durge: Durge would either give you a mortal heart in a jar or a vial of their own blood, and disturbing poetry they wrote for you. They might try to get you to get matching tattoos with them, but they won't push you if you'd rather not. Aside from that, they might take you to a cemetery or a long lost ruin to bask in the macabre beauty of the space. They'd also bring brownies they made themself.- They were going to pack a picnic, but they didn't want to smother you; and they're really better at baking than they are at cooking.

i LOVE your writing genuinely changed my brain chemistry with your wyll and astarion so thank you so so much for that. for the au ask game if you so wish - au where the tadpole doesn’t quite block out cazador’s influence/astarion has to consciously focus on not returning to him while adventuring? <3
Thank you so much, that's so sweet. <333
FIVE FUN FACTS about this AU:
They don't meet Astarion on the beach. They catch him further up the road, having already set out. He's in rough shape because he wasn't able to resist long enough to hold out and threaten someone at knifepoint for information, but instead he's been traipsing through goblin-infested wilderness, poorly armed and ill-equipped to deal with anything not a city.
They've got to tie him up when he goes into reverie because otherwise he'll get up and essentially sleepwalk vaguely in the direction of Baldur's Gate. He hhhates it. The first time they realized this happened, he got badly hurt wandering blind into a chasm in the middle of the night.
He can't go hunting on his own. He tried, but twice he failed his concentration check mid-hunt and just went MIA for some days until they managed to track him down. Now Wyll or Lae'zel hunt for him. He says he hates this, too, and grouses about it loudly to anyone who will listen, but he's secretly really, really touched. It's a novelty that a) anyone gives a damn whether he's fed and b) anyone can be bothered to take care of him.
The closer they get to Baldur's Gate, the stronger the compulsion becomes. By the time they get to the Shadowlands, he's got to be tied wrist-to-wrist to someone so that he doesn't wander out of the circle of torch light and directly into the shadow curse.
The other compulsions start slotting back into place as they draw closer to Cazador's palace. He can't drink from thinking beings anymore, even if they give him their blood, and the hope and determination that was so hard-won starts to bleed away as "Thou shalt know that thou are mine" starts to settle in and take root again. The companions have to remind him repeatedly that he's free now, and he doesn't have to go back to Cazador, and they're not going to let Cazador have him.

As much as I love having the Dark Urge as a customizable player character background because Nox is my babygirl sugarplum mass murderer, I think it would have been fucking incredible to have them be a companion. You wake up on the beach and find a heavily amnesiac person also suffering a tadpole infestation. But they're pretty likeable and seem a capable fighter. Really capable. Better take them along.
They're a little weird though. Twitchy as you pull Gale out of the portal. Looking at Astarion oddly. A little too into being covered in blood. Dude seriously, you want to eat the bbq dwarf??? Anyway.
Maybe you gain their trust and they admit that they dream of unspeakable violence and have urges to commit them when awake. Maybe you take them seriously. Maybe you brush it off like everyone else. Maybe you never learn about this. But then one morning you wake up and your amnesiac is standing over a fresh desecrated dead bard.
Well fuck. Maybe you expel them from camp, wash your hands of this nightmare. But on the other hand, they're a super great fighter and you do enjoy their company. Maybe this is a one off and you can help them try to control this inexplicable urge. Maybe you think you can harness and guide this urge to suit your own purposes. So you keep them around.
Where'd they get that sweet invisibility cape? Don't worry about it. You have bigger fish to fry.
And then you get that Last Light. Will they admit to wanting to kill Isobel? I guess that depends on how much they trust you. Maybe if they don't trust you, they'll go rogue in the fight and kill her without telling you. Maybe they'll admit to it and you have a choice. Is the prize they said they're promised worth Last Light sight unseen? Or will you encourage them to not kill Isobel? Maybe they listen to you. Maybe they don't. But if they do... you might wake up with a knife at your throat. Or find them pinning down another companion. Maybe you'll convince them to resist. Maybe you can't and a companion dies.
Regardless of Isobel or potential companion murder, you have a choice to make. Are they worth keeping around? They're clearly dangerous, and it can't entirely be controlled. But it mostly worked out okay this time, right? And you do really like their personality when they aren't behaving rabidly. And if they have it, that giant monster form is sure to come in handy later when you start taking on bigger foes, right?
So you keep them and then you get to Baldur's Gate and what the fuck do you mean Gortash was besties with them and made the whole Absolute scheme together? What the fuck do you mean that pasty weird shapeshifter girl is your "sister"? What the fuck do you mean you're the scion of Bhaal, the God of Murder. I mean it makes perfect sense but... What the fuck man.
They don't know, they're as clueless as you are. They have no idea how things should proceed. So they continue to defer to you and assist as needed. Things just keep getting weirder but honestly everyone traveling with you has their own special nightmare that needs resolved so. Keep trucking.
And then you reach the temple of Bhaal. Hoo boy. Are they going to reject Bhaal after the showdown with their sister? Well, I guess that depends on your actions so far. Have you gained their trust? Did you refrain from slaughtering the Grove? Have you helped them resist the Urge at Last Light/companion problems? Then yeah, they'll reject Bhaal and everything will be fine. Congrats, they're (mostly) normal now after Withers resurrects them. The game continues normally.
But maybe you didn't do those things. Maybe they don't trust you. Or maybe you've been encouraging them this whole time in a bid to use their violence to your gains. They swear themself to Bhaal as Chosen. Jaheira tries to convince you how bad a choice this is. Maybe you finally agree this is a problem that needs to be nipped in the bud and help her kill them. Or maybe you're just that sure of yourself that you have them properly harnessed despite their fealty to Bhaal. And you help them slay Jaheira to keep everyone else in line.
And then maybe when all is said and done... They kill you and the Emperor, and take control of the Brain in the name of their Father. Because you were too blind to see that their Father was pulling the strings all along, and you were unknowingly the puppet of your own demise.
#bg3#The dark urge#Rambling? As if#This post was brought to you by the countless hours of me thinking about how nox would be as a companion lol#Anyway larian i think you missed a real opportunity to make your players insane on their first runs

Little longer drabble (based on my play through) for Astarion because. I need to get my writer's spirit up and going again and this pixelated man on my screen has me in a slight chokehold.. Started playing just a few days ago so not really far into his personality and all that but Asterion's little panic when we find that boar?? AHH
The tadpole's in everyone's brains are doing hell knows what but they can't be good, so when Tav decides to make camp already again?? Just a couple days into their venture most companions are a bit annoyed. Their priority should be to get going and of course sleep is needed to heal, they *get* that, frustatingly so, but it doesn't help the fact that they're seemingly wasting time. Now Astarion is also a bit fuzzy about making camp almost every night, like really? On the other hand tho he's relieved, he's hungry, famished even, and finally he has a chance to break from the group with no unwanted attention. It's been too little time for building trust with anyone, he's surprised to be travelling with the lot at all after pulling a knife on Tav when they'd first met, so sneaking off would only have risen their suspicions. He needed to be careful and camp was the perfect opportunity
It was fairly easy to just walk off without waking anyone, after fighting that hostile group in the chapel ruins everyone's beat and tired and just plain right exhausted; add some fugly undeads that had risen just to protect a useless cryp to the equationd and sure enough you've got a party in due time for a nap. So, off he goes, in the wee hours of the night, stalking whatever prey he can find in his limited time. It took him some running about, distancing himself from the party to hide his tracks, deeper into the forest, to finally find a fat boar unassuming and Astarion could not wait any longer so he pounced on his prey. It was a hasty ordeal, not at all satisfying but it would suffice, at least until they made camp again
A few days go by and to be honest Astarion had already forgotten about his evidence left in the middle of the woods but by the hells, when Tav leads them away from the Druid's camp at the Hollow and straight into the forest, Astarion can't do anything but hope that they'd not come across the boar's corpse. Luck of course this time around is not on his side and his annoyance spikes when Tav takes a quick look at the cadaver, like they do with every other dead fucking animal. He hears them mumble about it being strange that it's dead because "it looks healthy" but it's dead now. No health can help that. Of course he gets nervous about Tav prodding around, pondering and wondering and it's annoying him. Not really, actually he's a bit anxious to be found out so he tries to distract her by being a bit more snippy and sarcastic than needed be.
"The pig is dead my friend, staring at it won't bring it back. We'll never fix these brain worms if we stop and gawk at every piece of carrion you find."
Maybe it's because they're a druid, bound to nature and such, or maybe it was his mistake for getting a bit snarky at this particular boar... they just give him a glance before kneeling and inspecting the boar for wounds. The whole party's infested with mindflayer parasites happily munching away at their thoughts and Tav is concerned about a dead boar? For what. But it just seems to fit perfectly to them so he should have expected so. He watches them gawk at the stupid beast and then their gaze gets stuck on something. Shit. They actually noticed those two tiny puncture wounds? Honestly impressive, especially on a hairy boar. But shit still. He needs to know what they're thinking because fuck fuck fuck
"And is it dead enough for you?"
"These marks look strange. Do you recognise them?"
Ah shit. They ask it in such a manner too... With that undertone, as if accusing him of withholding information. As if they knew that he knew what happened. This is bad. Can't even lie, he is a bit panicking at this point. Mostly inwardly but it does slip out in the slightest stutter and the way his eyes involuntarily open up. He would love to think over his answer and calculate the risks of what informations he could bare to share, what knowledge he'd be wise to reveal and which to keep under wraps but he's kind of under a timely limit so there was no time to actually think, like hello? The other party members aren't paying that much attention thankfully, more interested in the noises and chatter from nearby but Tav does not stray her attention from him. So he sort of just blurts something out
"I-" he stutters. he reveals they're from a vampire. If he had a beating heart it surely would be loud enough for Tav to hear by now. He rambles on, offering to take the first watch, to protect them for the night but then he pushes them once more to get fucking going. After he's said his piece he shuts his mouth, anxious to know their reaction. Would they find him out? Did he give too much away?? Maybe they're a deceitful one and actually noticed him sneaking away nights ago. His mind is racing with miles and miles of scenarios. Ways she would kill him on the spot, accuse him of evading the location and his efforts to dismiss the cadaver, would she assume it was him or would she simply know already? What if that little tadpole rascal in their brains connected and she could read his mind?? So many thoughts and fears that have him stand frozen solid before her, trying to convince her he's nonchalant by forcibly relaxing his muscles. There is so little trust between them yet, surely Tav would kill him for finding out he's a Vampire. What was there to lose for them if he was dead? Truly dead..
The seconds seem to drag on for uncomfortably long eternity, yet all she does is stare at him for mere moments and then she too just turns away from him, gifting her attention to the voices coming from nearby.
Astarion's heart hadn't felt this active, this heavy with fear and anticipation for a long time and by the hells, he hoped it didn't happen again for another 200 years...

White Ash - Fraxinus pensylvanica
For this post I'm going to discuss the snags and reason I got back into ecology: The Ash Tree
Around the 1990s an insect from northeastern Asia was accidentally introduced to the Continental United States, by 2002 this insect was identified in Michigan after destroying several million acres of forest, this insect was the Emerald Ash Borer. The borer's larvae consume the living inner bark layer (leaving an interesting pattern), ultimately starving the tree of nutrients. The bark will often flake or peel off. By the year 2015, there were signs that the borer had spread to the east coast, its journey likely accelerated by the spread of firewood from infected logs, by 2019 nearly every mature Ash tree in Northern New Jersey was killed.
I grew up in a yard with twelve 150 year old Ash trees, the yard was adjacent to a section of Ash dominant forest, I watched the slow decline of all these trees, for half a decade I hoped our trees would be lucky enough to survive but unfortunately they all died within a few summers. Although the White Ash trees I encountered were wild from a 20th century clear-cut, they were a fairly common street tree around the northeast, straight growing, lovely bark and unfortunately most of the nursery stock was derived from a similar gene pool. There was little genetic diversity and many suburban neighborhoods were wiped of Ash trees. Many Ash trees were infested and look like the section of log I saved from my yard now (image below)
Suburban yards aside I quickly began to notice entire sections of forest filled with standing deadwood (image below). Worse yet white ash wasn't the only ash species affected, the entire genus is at risk. American Ash species often occupy a unique niche in cultivating young organisms which grow in vernal pools, the leaves of american ash are low in tannin, meaning they're one of the few leaves which are a suitable food source for young frog tadpoles. The loss of the ash means damage to American frog populations. It also means insects which utilized ash as a host are also at risk.
Ash also has quite a lovely ethnobotanical history, black ash is famous amoung various tribes around the northeast for its use in basket weaving. Historically Lenape elders would use the juice from white ash leaves for reducing swelling. More modern settler usages revolve around using the elastic yet study wood for baseball bats, oars, hockey sticks, and tool handles. My friends father used to raid his boss's construction sites at night to harvest ash slated for removal and deliver it to a baseball bat manufacturer for a decent payout. Ash also has a lovely grain visible in the broken log in the second image
Ash forests now eerie snag filled openings which creak and occasionally fall on unsuspecting hikers. The thought of watching an entire forest ecosystem go really bothered me, ash swamps are unique, varied, there's something almost indescribable about growing up hearing early spring chirps from little tree frogs at night which are now silent. I left my job in architecture and started pursuing a degree related to landscape architecture and ecological planning (not that this is the answer). I started propagating ash trees where I could and planting them around. Unfortunately ash can't immediately return, invasive species often outcompete ash trees in their former forest, the added pressure ultimately reduces their ability to regenerate. The borer has spread so far there is little we can do to remove it, however there is a positive effect with biological control via the borers' specific parasitic wasp.
Is this the end of the ash? Hopefully not. I still find saplings throughout the woods, ash can be aggressive in the right conditions, can they survive into maturity is another question. Perhaps in another century, more will return, and ash will occupy our woods once more. Like the Chestnut work is being done to breed more resistant species.

For the Tav asks 👀
7, 14, 26, and or 30 ????? (am indecisive so now you get 4 numbers lmao)
I don't have an in-depth answer for 26 (Does your Tav have a treasured item with them? If yes, what is it and why is it special? If no, how do they feel about item sentimentality in general?) but suffice it to say Eike does, including mementos from their family/community and their Runs on the surface. As per the other questions...
7. What circumstances led to your Tav becoming their Class/Subclass?
Eike is a descendant of a group of deep gnomes who had been liberated by Eilistraean drow several generations ago and lived with them/under their protection since. Eike was a part of clergy but they were more interested in the hows and whys of magic entire and started dabbling in wizardry, letting their divine gifts fall by the wayside.
However since being infested with a tadpole and rashly accepting Illithid Powers without really knowing what it'd entail (due to good old Wizard Hubris) they began to doubt their judgement and in search of guidance and hope they turned back to Eilistraee. (they never really left but they've not gone the extra mile in their worship in a long while before the events of the game)
(also, while mechanically their cleric domain is Knowledge, if i were to play them in dnd i'd ask the dm to have their domain be more of a hybrid between Knowledge and Arcana)
14. How does your Tav feel about the city?
It's Big. Eike is no stranger to surface settlements but they used to stick to villages and towns on their Runs, they haven't been anywhere this populous before.
While they sympathize with Halsin's disheartened thoughts on the injustices of the city, they find a lot of his thoughts on nature and balance too black-and-white and somewhat naïve because they don't see people as separate from nature. Ultimately though, they don't think that city life is for them and would prefer living in a smaller scale community.
30. What are your Tav’s intentions/goals after the end of the game?
I should pre-face this by saying that i have not yet finished the game or even dealt with Caz but i do have a rough plan on how to approach it all.
They're gonna end up with a lot of vamprire spawn on their hands and helping with them will be their top priority. The ethos of Eilistraee is helping others, particularly helping drow to return to the surface. They find that the predicament of the spawn resonates with that and hope that other Eilistraeans see it in the same light, so their plan is to contact their temple (and through them, others) and ask for aid. That in itself is a hefty goal so i don't imagine they've thought much further ahead.
They also try to keep in touch with the party even after parting their ways (pardon the pun) and in their free time do research to solve Karlach's heart troubles, as well as being in a book club with Gale (by which i both mean that they use him to learn more wizard spells since RAW you need spell slots and not class levels to scribe those and that they genuinely are in a book club).
#this got rambly but i can't say i'm surprised i do have rambly tendencies#Eikehardt Ruberatz#bg3 tav#my tav#bg3

General
They can be found with Alfira work shopping her song.
Shart: "A gentle drow, how odd." Wyll: "A bard! What every good hero's journey needs!" Karlach "Ooo can you play a tavern diddy?!"
To Minthara: "Hello mother. Not happy to see you again." To Lae'zel "Well aren't you a beautiful sight." To Astarion "If you're not a vampire I'll eat my own hat."
Acts of kindness nets them approval, plus showing an interest in writing. Unnecessary cruelty is disapproval.
No they will stick it out to the end their fear of the tadpole keeping them in check.
Suppose Minthara being their mother which you only really see if you recruit her. They would rather keep it private even if you kill her.
When I play them they are already nonbinary. If anything it would be them getting kidnapped the second they leave the Underdark. They didn't have time to process they weren't a man. "Some Transformations are worth it." Probably just a quest to find a sex change potion and all they change is their genitals.
Finally time to work on my craft! I guess I'll get my hands dirty...
If Minthara is in the party they will have a child, mother spat. Over the course of the game they learn to respect each other.
Drizzt was their inspo for leaving the Underdark so probably running across them like the og games.
With the drider if you play the instrument badly instead of letting them do it they chew you out. "Next time leave that to me. I couldn't stand to see you mangle another instrument."
Story Specific
"Ignore EVERYTHING that thing tells us. I have read enough stories to know this ends bad."
"Unless you can get powers like Wyll out of it. Hard no to that twat."
"Didn't know you were into that. Kinky."
"Oh... me next!"
"And I thought people back home were power hungry."
They will stay no matter what. Their upbringing didn't give them room to be choosy with allies.
They would be on their own off to the side with a bit of cheese and a notebook. You could convince them to play with Alfira. Will play a sad ballad for the goblins.
Just a general "You kept me up last night... Hope you had fun."
"I hate the sun on a good day. If you do something like that again I will disembowel you."
"Ew."
"Sure I'll upstage this hack any day."
They would be able to be taken. Probably found out if you as them to play you a tune. "Aw you do care."
To ascended "Great now hes worse then his master." to freeing them? "Great now my home is infested with leeches."
They would not even offer to become one. If you become one they would say "Thank you friend for doing this." With the romance they would change friend for love.
"Chin up hopefully you're just a normal blood thirsty psycho."
"Guess I'm not getting to make a duet anytime soon."
"Wow you would love it at home. Let me get some rope."
Romance
They would be but you would have to be patient and understanding at their aversion to sex.
They're too dense to flirt first gotta make yourself clear.
You could romance them with anyone else. They just want to explore things slowly with no attachment at first.
They would sing you a love ballad.
It could be an asexual one or become a sexual one but it would take to the very end of the game to get there.
"Oh ok."
Q: Where are they most at peace? A: Deep in the bard college's library. Q: What do they fear most? A: Being forced to do things they are uncomfortable with. Q: What matters most to them? A: Family
"Just don't do anything that would tucker you out too much."
"I can see the appeal but gross." to all of them
No, sleeping with another drow would be triggering for them.
Probably start a book shop but never get married.
They make the best sweets but will never admit it.
