His Favorite Thing In the World Part 1
Summary: This is set after TRR Book 2 finale. I don’t really know how to sum this up, I just tried to imagine how the first few weeks would go for everyone, after the events of the finale.
Trigger Warning: There is mention of blood and hospital stuff and description of one slightly graphic image. It’s nothing much, but if you think you will feel uncomfortable in any way while reading this, please feel free to skip it.
Pairing: Mc x Drake
Word count: 3000+
Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters, they belong to Pixelberry Studios.
Author’s Note: As I always write, my MC’s name is Anne Boleyn and the King’s name is Henry. The finale of TRR Book 2 literally ruined me (seriously, I feel like crying whenever I see or remember something about Drake) and this fanfic kind of wrote itself. I also feel like there will be a part 2 of this- I already have ideas for a part 2. Hope you enjoy my writing.
…
The first thing she feels not sees - feels, is the darkness. The second thing is him. She can feel Drake is near somewhere but cannot see him, cannot touch him. "Drake, where are you?" she whispers in a tangled voice but she doesn't even know why she is whispering. She tries to yell but she can't. It seems like her voice has left her. She frantically turns around herself, trying to find a sign of light, but she can't. She feels trapped. She is surrounded by cold, thick walls and when she touches one of them, she feels some kind of thick liquid on her hand. She feels frightened. "Drake, please I need you." She can feel the tears burning her eyes. "Where are you?" There is no answer but she hears a shallow breathing this time. And then she sees a door in front of her. It opens slightly and a little light comes in. That's when she sees the blood on her hand. And then Drake lying unconscious in front of her, his blood all over the place. She tries to scream but she can't. She tries to run to him, but she can't. She starts crying, gasping for air and everything starts to dissolve into nothingness...
...
She opens her eyes with a huge gasp. She can feel the tears fresh on her cheeks. Before she can make out her surroundings, she feels someone rushing to her side. When she turns her head, she sees Bastien through her blurred vision.
"Duchess Anne! You are awake, finally."
She can hear the relief in his voice. She tries to sit up, but Bastien gently puts his hand on her shoulder. "You should rest. I will call the doctor now."
"Why, what's wrong with - Oh!" Suddenly she feels a terrible ache behind her head which forces her to close her eyes. She hears Bastien leaving and returning with the doctor in a few seconds. She forces herself to open her eyes.
"How do you feel Your Grace?", the doctor asks gently. "Do you remember what happened to you?" He is a middle-aged man, with brown hair and gentle brown eyes which remind her of Drake. And then she remembers...
...
The darkness. The chaos. The gunshots. The panic and the screaming. The voice of Drake, screaming for her to get down. Seeing the gun pointing directly at her. Feeling Drake's body in front of her like a shield. Trying to stop him but failing. Feeling their bodies becoming one once again that night but it's only Drake's body that takes the bullet now. The bullet which was meant for her. Feeling his body crashing into hers and falling onto the floor together. Feeling a terrible pain in the back of her head. And then... Then everything goes dark.
...
"Drake!" she screams suddenly, making the doctor slightly jump. She frantically looks between the doctor and Bastien. "Where is he? How is he?" She starts crying uncontrollably. No, no, no, this can't be happening, she thinks to herself. The only man she truly loved can't die because of her. "Please tell me!", she chokes between sobs.
"Mr. Walker is in surgery. He is lucky that the bullet didn't do any damage to his heart. The doctors are doing everything they can for him.", the doctor says gently.
"Will he be alright?", she whispers, not sure if she is ready to hear the answer.
"I'm afraid it's too soon to say anything. We will have to wait and see. Now how are you?" The doctor asks once again. "Do you feel any pain in the back of your head?"
She nods silently. She doesn't feel strong enough to speak. All she can think of is Drake, lying on a surgery desk, cut open, bleeding and in pain. The image sticks to her head. She looks at Bastien and realizes that his eyes are red like he's been crying too.
"We will give you more painkillers. You have to spend the night here in custody in case you had a concussion. Try to get some rest. Hopefully, you will feel better tomorrow." The doctor says gently.
"I want to be there when he is out of surgery. I have to see him, I have to talk to him. I can't rest until I know he is going to be alright." She shakes her head but immediately stops because of the pain. She turns to Bastien. "Where is everybody? Are they safe?", she asks.
Bastien looks uncomfortable like he's been dreading to hear this question. "King Henry and Lord Bertrand are alright. They went after... Well, Lady Hana and Lord Maxwell are missing. A lot of people are looking for them right now. I wanted to be here to protect you and...", he trails off...
"To keep an eye on Drake?", Anne completes his sentence. "I know he is like a son to you."
"That is true. But I know that I let him down. And if... when he recovers, I will do everything to make it up to him. And to you."
Before she can answer, the doctor interrupts them. "I'm afraid that should be enough for now. You are still in shock. You have to get some rest, Your Grace." She wants to protest but Bastien bows and returns to his spot by the door. The doctor calls a nurse and leaves after giving the nurse some instructions. After a few minutes, she feels the pain in her head fading away. But the pain in her heart doesn't leave her for a second, images of Drake, Hana, and Maxwell whirling inside her head, making it hard for her to breath.
...
"Hey." Anne hears a soft, familiar voice and feels a warm hand on her head. When she opens her eyes, she sees Henry looking down at her, love and pain scraped together on his face. "How do you feel?" She looks around and realizes the daylight coming through the curtains.
"How long did I sleep? How is Drake?" She tries to sit up on her bed and Henry moves a little to let her.
"A couple of hours, from what I've heard from Bastien. Drake got out of surgery. The doctors said the surgery went well..." He trails off like he doesn't know what to say more. Anne sees a burning flame of anger and guilt in his eyes.
"But is he alright?", she whispers. Her eyes search his'.
Henry sighs. "He still didn't wake up. The doctors put him in intensive care. They told that this was normal and we would have to wait for him to wake up, which could be any moment apparently." He pauses for a moment and takes her hand in both of his hands. "I'm so sorry Anne. I couldn't keep you safe. I failed you, I failed all of you." A single tear escapes his eyes.
Anne studies him carefully for the first time since she woke up. He is still wearing his clothes from the Ball, his hair is a mess and there are purple circles around his eyes. She thinks that she never saw him so devastated before. She shakes her head and looks deep into his eyes. "This is not your fault. Do you hear me? None of it. We will find whoever's responsible for all of this and we will make them pay. We will make Cordonia safe again." She feels a determined flare in her. They will pay for what they did to them. Whoever they are. Whatever they want. She is ready to fight. She sees her determination reflecting back in his eyes.
"You are strong as always, Duchess Anne," he says proudly as he composes himself. "You give me, all of us strength. I don't know what we would do without you..."
She smiles slightly and gives his hands a gentle squeeze. "Is there any progress on finding Hana and Maxwell?", she asks as she grows serious again.
"No, not yet I'm afraid. The assassins were well trained. The ones we captured don't speak. But they will." He lets go of her hand as his hands turn into fists. "I'll do everything in my power to find them and bring them home safely. I promise you. I have to go back soon, but before I go, I want to make sure that you are alright. I will call the doctor now." He gestures to Bastien and Bastien comes in with the doctor in a few moments.
"Oh, Duchess Anne, how do you feel this morning?", the doctor asks gently.
"I'm fine. I need to get out of this damned bed and go see Drake.", she answers breathlessly.
The doctor raises his eyebrows, a little surprised at the choice of her words. "Mr. Walker is in intensive care. I'm afraid only family members are allowed to see him right now."
She shakes her head as she starts to get up from her bed. "But you don't understand, Doctor." She looks at him with a fire in her eyes.
"He is my family."
...
Anne stands in front of Drake's private room. A nurse is helping her to get prepared so she can go inside. After the doctor made sure that she was alright, Henry made it possible for her to visit Drake. That was all she asked but now, standing here, she feels a little frightened. She doesn't know what to expect but she knows that she has to see him. "You are ready now, Duchess Anne." She hears the nurse's voice. "You only have five minutes." She takes a deep breath. I have to be strong for him, she thinks to herself. He's always been strong for me. She pushes the door carefully and steps in.
The first thought she has is that there are an awful lot of machines. She is standing in a clean, neat, private room with a white bed in the middle of it and the bed is surrounded by machines, beeping and lighting up constantly. And Drake lays on the bed, eyes closed, with a lot of cables and stuff on his strong, bare chest. She slowly walks towards the bed, her eyes never leaving his body, traveling from his tired looking face to his wounded torso. She feels like crying. When she reaches him, she gently takes his hand into her hands and for the first time ever, his hand feels cold in hers'. It's like the death itself touched him and left its coldness on him. She shakes her head immediately, I can't think like this, she tells herself. He is here and alive and he will be alright.
"Hey, Drake.", she whispers softly. "It's me, Boleyn." She can't believe the pain she feels just from using her own last name. She feels like she can give away everything she has, just to hear him call her Boleyn again. "I'm here for you. We all are. We are waiting for you to wake up. Please don't be so stubborn this time and wake up soon, ok?" She feels tears coming down her face silently. It feels like her own heart is lying unconscious on this hospital bed. Her hand reaches to caress his hair gently. "I love you so much. I feel lost without you. Please, come back to me soon.", she whispers. She hears the door opening slightly and the nurse comes in to tell her that her time is up for now. Anne nods briefly and turns to Drake: "I have to go now but I will come back. I won't leave this place until you are well enough to leave it with me. Do you hear me? We will leave this damned place together." She pushes his hair from his face gently and gives his hand a warm squeeze before stepping outside shakily.
...
"Why won't he wake up!?" Anne feels frustration and sorrow consuming her.
It's been a week now and Drake still hasn't woken up. His vitals were good and the doctors said that he was doing fine, considering his situation. She and Savannah took turns to visit him, mornings were Savannah's because she couldn't leave Bartie in the evenings and evenings were Anne's because she was already there day and night refusing to leave the hospital for even a second. Bastien stayed with her, Henry came to see Anne every day and Bertrand was always with Savannah when she came. The recent events made them get closer as both of them realized how fragile human lives can be. There were guards all over the hospital. There was still no news of Hana and Maxwell.
Henry sighs. "I don't know, Anne. But we can't give up hope. The doctors say he is doing fine. He is a strong man. He will wake up when he is ready. He will get through this, I know he will." He gives her a hug. "We have to stay strong for him, for everyone." He lets her go and studies her carefully. "Do you eat and sleep well? You have to take care of yourself. Do it for him, if you can't do it for yourself."
Anne isn't really listening to him as an idea strikes to her head. She looks at him excitedly. "Can you sneak in a little bottle of whiskey with Bastien this evening?", she asks.
Henry's eyes widen. "Whiskey? Are sure you should be drinking-"
"It's not for me to drink." And she explains her plan to Henry.
...
Anne stands beside Drake's side, looking at his handsome face intently. He looks more peaceful now and she wants to think that he doesn't feel any pain. "Hey, Drake. Remember me?", she asks as she tries to smile. "I brought something for you. It's your favorite thing in the whole world." She holds a tiny bottle in her hand filled with Drake's favorite whiskey. She opens the bottle and slowly, carefully lifts it to his nose, hoping the smell will help him wake up. She holds the bottle as well as her breath for a whole minute, waiting to see any kind of reaction from him.
But nothing happens.
She lets out a shaky breath and puts the bottle back into her pocket. It didn't work, she thinks to herself. She was so hopeful about this, but it fucking didn't work. She feels all hope leaving her as she cups his face and lowers her head to him, her tears making the side of his face wet, her hair touching his nose slightly.
And then she feels him.
She feels him turning his head towards her ever so slightly. It's a very little movement, but she knows she felt it. She leans back and looks at him with widened eyes. "Drake? Can you hear me? Are you here?"
Drake opens his eyes slowly and smiles at her weakly. "I'm here, Boleyn." He raises his hand and she holds it tightly.
"You are here. Oh god, you are really here." She laughs while still crying, relief washing all over her. "I have to tell the doctors. I'll be right back."
"I'll be here.", Drake whispers. She gives his hand a gentle squeeze before rushing to give the news to his doctors.
...
Another week passes and Drake finally gets out of the intensive care. The doctors assure them that there won't be any permanent damage to his body and in a couple of months he will be as good as new.
"The problem is to make him stay in bed.", Anne tells to Henry while they sit on either side of his bed. "He already talks about getting up."
Henry chuckles as Drake rolls his eyes. "I'm sure he will get his rest to be better soon."
"Oh no, not you too.", Drake snorts. "I wanna help you find Hana and Maxwell."
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid Anne is the one who is in charge here. She got you to wake up, after all, she had quite the plan.", Henry says smiling. "We are looking for Hana and Maxwell and we will find them. We are getting close. If you want to be helpful, just focus on getting better, please."
Drake groans but doesn't push it further. Not for now, anyway.
Henry stands up. "I have to go now. I will come see you again tomorrow."
"Thank you, Henry. For everything." Anne stands up and smiles at him and he smiles back and bows before leaving the two of them.
Drake turns to face Anne, as she sits back beside his bed. "Hey Boleyn, what did Henry mean when he said you had quite the plan to wake me up?", he asks curiously.
"Oh, it was the whiskey that woke you up after all.", Anne says laughing a little. "Surely you remember smelling it while you were... well sleeping?"
"Whiskey? What whiskey?", Drake asks, clearly surprised.
"You don't remember?", Anne asks with disbelief. Now it's her turn to be surprised. "I sneaked in a little bottle of whiskey to your room, hoping the smell would help you wake up because I know it's your favorite thing in the world. At first, nothing happened, but then... You woke up and I thought it was the whiskey that made the trick..." She looks at him questioningly.
"No, I don't remember any whiskey. I remember the smell of your shampoo and the feel of your hands on my face and I heard you crying and then you called out to me and I..."
"...You woke up.", whispers Anne, her voice filled with emotion.
"I woke up.", repeats Drake, looking deep into her eyes. He pauses for a moment and his hand reaches to cup her cheek, before speaking in an intense voice. "I guess whiskey is not my favorite thing in the world, after all."
She gives into his warm touch, leaning into his hand. "No, I guess I was wrong about that.", she whispers lovingly, her gaze never leaving his'.
And they stay like that for a while, staring intently into each other's eyes, the love they feel for each other filling the whole space between them.
...
To be continued.

Dark Outlaw Queen Week - Day7
Day 7 - Regina checks in.
You’ll find mentions of Dragon Queen here.
(…)
Regina comes back to her office after a very annoying lunch break with Snow to find the door unlocked. It makes her frown for she’s sure she locked them before leaving. Her whole posture changes immediately as she inhales sharply and pushes the door open, ready to fight with whoever the intruder is.
However, instead of an enemy, she finds her son there, sitting at her desk, eating doughnuts. As the door hits the wall (Regina pushed them too hard) his eyes move from the box of food to the doorway. He looks startled for a moment, eyes wide, but then he sees Regina and grins.
“Henry!” she sighs in relief.
She really wasn’t in a mood to fight.
She smiles to her son, but still looks confused. It’s his week with Emma and during these days he barely comes to her because he’s always occupied with Emma and Guyliner. He’s not an unwelcome guest, far from it, she’s just really surprised to see him.
“Hi, Mom,” Henry says cheerfully, waving his hand at her.
“What are you doing here today?” She asks interested as she walks into her own office and closes the door behind her, comes to sit in front of Henry.
For a second Henry’s smile drops and he becomes serious. He puts the doughnut back into the box and looks at Regina before giving her a small smile.
“I have some news for you,” he finally says and licks his lips, becomes serious again. “I opened the book last night and found a new chapter that wasn’t there before. It was about the Queen.”
“Oh” Regina sits a little bit straighter, already preparing to hear some kind of a crazy adventure the Queen is having again.
“She and Robin got married.”
For a moment Regina is stunned. Her mouth drops open in surprise as she stares at her son. She knows the Queen, knows her demons, after all the Queen was created in a loveless marriage as Regina’s salvation, and it’s a real surprise to hear that that woman managed to silence these awful thoughts about marital life and get married again.
Surprise wears off rather quickly and then she feels a bit of hurt. Of course, Regina and the Queen aren’t friends, but Regina liked to think about her as a family member. They’ve been trapped in one body for many years, there was some kind of connection between them.
Now Regina feels betrayed. At least the Queen could’ve sent a letter or find another way to announce something this important.
“Are you sure?” Regina snaps out of her thoughts and looks at Henry who’s watching her closely.
“Yeah, look,” he pushes the storybook towards her.
Inhaling Regina looks down and finds a picture of the Queen dressed all in black, in her regal clothes with Robin in his usual thievery clothes kissing. It doesn’t look like a wedding, more like a normal kiss between two lovers so she turns to read what is written on the other page.
That day the former Evil Queen and Robin of Locksley got married.
One sentence is enough to have Regina’s heart beating just a little bit faster. She looks to the picture again, takes a closer looks to the Queen’s face and for the first time in forever she sees a smile that’s genuine happy.
Regina’s heart swells from happiness for that woman for she really deserved to be happy.
Swallowing a knot of tears (she doesn’t even know why she’s so emotional about this), Regina looks at Henry grinning, “Well, I think it’s time we congratulate them.”
(…)
Regina refused to let Henry to travel with her. Traveling in realms weren’t a trouble anymore, they’ve had enough magic beans but she still felt conflicted. Gods only know what is happening in the Enchanted Forest but her son is too good at convincing and after a few hours of doing just that, she finally agreed to let him go.
They decided to travel on Sunday, planned to stay only for a few hours because Regina might have let Henry travel with her but this trip wasn’t a good enough reason to skip lessons. They’ve bought a bouquet of flowers, taken the bean from the vault and traveled.
(…)
Regina opens her eyes when she hears someone moaning and that someone sounds just like her. As soon as she is able to see properly, she figures out that she’s standing in her castle’s hallway and there, right in front of her, is the Queen, pushed against the wall by Robin who is kissing her exposed neck.
“Oh my God,” Regina couldn’t help but gasp. “Henry, turn around,” she orders and hopes to all the Gods above that her son hasn’t seen anything. He already had a difficult life with all the curses and stuff, he didn’t need an image of his other mother making out with her new husband.
The gasps follow Regina’s words and she turns Henry around as quickly as possible while Robin and the Queen pull away from each other, Robin’s eyes are wide as he turns to look at them while the Queen’s turns all shades of pink as she looks from Regina to Henry.
“Regina!” The Queen almost squeals as she desperately covers herself –  she wouldn’t felt embarrassed in front of Regina, if it were only her, she might have given her a show, but there is Henry and she really doesn’t want her son to see her like that. Quickly she fixes herself and tries to put her breathing under control as Robin turns around, rests his hand on her lower back. “What are you doing here? Don’t you remember that you need to knock?”
“It’s literally the hallway, I wasn’t expecting you to-“ Regina trails off, gesturing towards them.
“Well, next time you decide to visit, please, let us know,” the Queen says sternly and then she leaves Robin’s embrace and walks towards Henry. “Hi, dear,” she greets her son, pulling him into a tight hug which Henry gladly returns.
“Mom,” he says and for a moment the Queen lets herself think that there was a little bit of longing in his voice. “We came here to congratulate you two,” Henry tells her after pulling away.
“Yes,” Regina agrees. “We read that you’re married now and…” she trails off again, feeling a knot of tears in her throat. She’s over it, she tells herself, she’s moved on, and she’s happy for the Queen but every time she thinks about it, she imagines herself in the Queen’s situation for it could have been her and Robin, her Robin.
“Thank you,” The Queen says, pulling Henry into another tight hug. Then she lets him go and the boy goes to shake hands with Robin who is standing behind them awkwardly.
Regina hugs the Queen, whispers into her ear, “Thank you for telling me,” sarcastically and then pulls away.
“You’re welcome, dear,” The Queen returns with a smirk and takes the flowers from Regina, turns around to look at her husband and her son chatting.
“Why doesn’t Robin show Henry the castle while we talk?” Regina suggests and the Queen nods, looking at her husband with a wicked grin.
She is smitten.
(…)
“So,” the Queen starts, putting down the cups on a kitchen table.
Regina is sitting on the chair like a real guest, looking around. So much have changed since the last time she’s been here. There are no maids now, and the kitchen’s atmosphere definitely has changed.
The Queen puts a plate with apple turnovers on the table and finally sits down in front of Regina, smirking, “So I see that you know a lot about my life, but don’t be mistaken, I know bits and pieces about yours too. For example, tell me about your new relationship.”
The cup of tea almost falls from Regina’s hand as she curses under her breath. She then looks up at the Queen with wide eyes, “How do you know?”
Yes, she’s been in some kind of a relationship for quite some time but no one knows about it, not even Henry for it’s still so uncertain.
The Queen only shrugs, grinning at her wickedly.
“Yes, I’m not alone,” Regina finally admits, her voice shaking. “But I haven’t stopped loving Robin. I’m trying to move on but I still feel bad about it and she’s making me feel better and I’m trying, I really am.”
“Maleficent is good for you,” The Queen agrees, taking a sip of her tea. “I’m glad to see you finally acted on your feelings.”
“I wouldn’t say that it was me who acted on her feelings, but yes, I'm glad too,” she admits. “But even though we’re together for quite some time now, I still feel-“ Regina’s voice trails off and there are tears in her eyes and she hasn’t cried for so long, but now, talking about her new relationship with someone makes it feel real and she feels as if she’s forgetting Robin, as if she’s betraying him.
“I know. I feel it too.”
“But we moved on. Both of us.”
“I guess we did. I mean look at us – you’re finally with someone you’ve had feelings for a really long time and I just got married to a man who makes me the happiest woman.”
“But I still remember him. Every single day.”
“So do I.”
They fall silent after that, both of them stuck in their thoughts. Regina takes a deep breath, tells herself to calm down but when she looks up to the Queen, she finds that the woman is struggling just as much as her.
Regina pushes these sad thought away, and tries to think of everything she wanted to say to the Queen when they meet again. But now when the time has come, her head is empty. Damn it, she really needed to make the list.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” Regina says, breaking the silence, when she remembers what she figured out a few weeks ago. “I talked with Rumple about you and me living on our own now. And he told me that the infertility curse is broken for you. I just thought you should know that now.”
“Oh, trust me, I know,” The Queen chuckles and rests her hand on her stomach.
“You’re pregnant?”
“About two months,” she tells her with a small smile. “We’ve been on our honeymoon when I started having symptoms and then Robin basically made me do that spell which showed that I’m definitely pregnant.”
“Oh my!” Regina cannot hide her surprise. Instantly she’s up and walking around the table to hug her former biggest enemy. She feels tears of happiness filling her eyes as she pulls away and looks at Queen’s stomach which’s still as flat as always.
But there’s a baby.
“I’m going to be her Godmother,” Regina announces making the Queen laugh.
They talk and talk and talk, about the baby, wedding and honeymoon, about Regina and Mal, about Henry and Violet, they both agree that he’s not old enough to have a girlfriend. The Queen tells her about their life now, about the crimes she and Robin commit together and just how happy she is now.
“Hello, ladies,” It’s Robin’s voice that cuts their conversation and they both fall silent as they turn to look at their boys. Robin walks over to the Queen while Henry takes a seat beside Regina.
They talk for a little bit more and then, when the sun goes down, they hug each other one last time and Regina with Henry travel home while the Queen and Robin return to their crazy activities that were interrupted by their guests.
(…)
I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who read my one shots for Dark Outlaw Queen week!! I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writting! :)
