as per usual it is propaganda repost time. cant believe we're at round 4 holy hell, best of luck to technoria & the hero!

propaganda time. except it's mostly in art form. i said in the tags when i reblogged this earlier i intended to do this and now i am doing it. it will all be under the cut bc theres a lot and also bc. well. the tw im abt to write should explain that. which is impressive, because i rarely write trigger warnings

first off, here's a whole tapas comic where his abuser manipulates someone else (who belongs to @pythonisarts xo) into thinking it is her fault he was tortured and assaulted. you can see her thinking abt him in the last panel.

ok now that thats out of the way lets go through a bunch of art i have of tristan tee hee.

firstly i have a comic of one of his best friends hugging him and him breaking down bc he is hashtag very traumatized and very sad. so heres that. kinda bittersweet but look at him he's sad :(

secondly i have his abuser grabbing him by the wrist very tightly and pulling him all the way against him. this is not a villain dance this is just restraint prior to torture and assault. the creepy vibes are off the charts and thats how they should be

thirdly heres the abuser threatening the lives of two Actual Children (they are five years old) to keep tristan in line. just for funzies. tristan proceeded to spend more than a decade walking on eggshells so that these girls would not be Literally Killed. also this is after the abuser had tortured him that day already. haha

and while we are on the subject of comics with him and his abuser, here's the abuser making him choose what knife he should be tortured with (i hate him)

also in round one's propaganda i said "he eventually overdoses on drugs and almost dies and is hospitalized" and he has in fact overdosed on drugs and almost died and is currently hospitalized in canon so here is a doodle of him in the hospital after that.

i could also ramble forever but i dont want to upset any readers too bad and i definitely would and i have stuff to do today and also i dont really know where to start tbh. anyway i'm sad about tristan 25/8 and you should be too <3 however im nice sometimes so i'm going to leave you with a picture of him and his girlfriend (who belongs to @pythonisarts) instead

Hello please tell me about Echo, I would like to know :)

taco i’m always willing to talk about echo, he’s one of my favorite characters to rant about

ok i know this ask was inspired by the ‘tag the oc with the saddest ending’ post but since its been so long since you sent it, its been marinating in my head for days so i’m just gonna rant in general 

(lots under the cut. like lots. almost 1500 words)

Echo was actually supposed to be the main character bc he joins nyks and spence on their journeys (there was going to be like four pov’s) but then i gave him some background that i didnt share and didnt feel like i could really do it justice with him being the main character. It’s still talked about and i feel like i do a good job covering it, but he’s not the main character bc i think its important to let people share their stories but still have a diverse set of characters (if that makes sense at all). I wont talk about the background in this rant (just because how i reveal it in the story is how i want it to be figured out)

Ok i want to talk about his family first. He lives with lots of other people. His parents, his older sister and brother, his younger sister and brother, his grandma, and his older brother’s two kids and wife, and his older sister’s fiancee. He shares a room with his younger sister and brother, so he’s closer with those two naturally. They’re three years younger than him. Not twins but theyre the same age (they kinda adopted freddie. Frankie is his bio sister). His older brother is six years older than him and his kids are two and four. His older sister is two years older than him. His grandma has dementia and doesnt really like him for no real reason (its just the vibes since he has magic and she can kinda sense it). He had a twin sister (Skrell) but her magic was discovered and she was killed. 

Next im talking about his magic. He has reactive magic, which is pretty impossible to control. In any other kingdom, it would protect him, but since Terilace has a magic ban, it’s nearly gotten him killed more times than he’d like to admit. Its really rare to have reactive magic, to the point where no one can really test for it like they can the other types of magic. It’s only in people who havent had a magician in the family tree for at least five generations, are the second born twin, and are not their parent’s first pregnancy. The first twin usually has a different type of emotion related magic (skrell had empathetic magic, which means that she knew what everyone was feeling. It caused a lot of overloads and she stayed home pretty much all the time). He also has very weak shadow magic, but he doesn’t find out about that until later. 

Now im talking about his job. He’s the oldest Assistant at the library, he’s been there longer than Xander, the Librarian. His old boss was killed by a poisonous animal that got into the library mysteriously (its kinda hinted at how it got in but im not getting into that now). His sections are magic, psychology, magical wildlife (which doesnt fall under the magic section), horticulture, and Terilace history. There are only two other Assistants, Zoey and William who are 14 and 16 respectively. He trained them both but now they’re able to work without his help. When the story starts, he’s training an Assistant to replace him since he and Haven are going to leave the kingdom soon. There are also ten to fifteen (depends on lots of things) Scribes at the Library and their only job is to copy information into books. The Assistants organize and compile all the info they put into the books and are in charge of making sure everything is in the right place. They have to know where everything in their sections is. There are blue hermit spiders that live in the bookshelf. The first Librarian added them to the shelves to protect the books and information. They live for anywhere between twenty and eighty years, depending on what they decide to do. Some “adopt” Assistants and live with them until one of them dies. If the Assistant dies first, then the spider lives on their grave until it dies. It’s the most loyal species in the world. Echo has one that he calls Monster, but its name is Cecil (this isnt important i just wanted to share its name). I could keep talking about the Library for hours, but ive already gotten off topic quite a bit, so im moving on. 

I want to touch on some relationships he has outside of his family. He and haven have known each other for almost fifteen years. Haven and her mom moved inside the Terilace castle walls when she was three (he was five) and they became fast friends. Haven spends a lot of time at his house bc her mom is kinda controlling and haven doesnt like being around her. She rants to him and he listens, she doesnt know much about his life though (which is how he likes it). Spencer and him have a sort of relationship. By which i mean spence has a crush on him and echo pretty much hates him. Spence turns in a lot of magicians bc he was raised being taught that any kind of magic is evil and there is no good in it. He’s also the prince (future king. Again, i can talk about the kingdom and traditions for a long time but this is about echo soo..), so echo cant really tell him to leave him alone. Robert (spence’s older brother) and him are friends. Rob came to the Library one day and needed something from one of echo’s sections, so they got to talking and now they’re fairly close. Not that anyone can know that bc the royals arent really supposed to have friend outside of the castle. He has lots of other relationships too, but not any major ones that come up in the story, so they’re not super fleshed out (yet). 

His main arc is learning to open up and talk about things, which nyks and emberly help with a lot. He learns that he doesnt need to bottle everything up and that being vulnerable isnt the end of the world. He doesnt really care a lot about his health and tries to take care of everyone and everything before he even thinks about himself, but he learns to stop doing that too. He also learns how to control his emotions other than just making himself feel numb so his magic doesnt get him killed. 

He’s aroace, which is a huge part of who he is. He doesnt really understand romance, but wishes he could date (he ends up dating emberly and nyks platonically). His aromanticism is more important to him than his asexualtiy, but his ace-ness is also a huge part of his identity. 

Ok, so i know this ask was prompted by the ‘which character has the saddest ending’ post i rb’d, so ill get into that. Because he didnt use his magic for the first (almost) twenty-one years of his life, he dies young. With most emotional magic, its important to embrace it. Same with shadow magic. His shadow magic is weak already, but since he doesnt find out about it until he finally settles down, it takes a lot of years off his life. After he, nyks, and emberly settle down in a big house where he can just. relax. He spends a lot of time doing the things he loves. He bakes, gardens and spends a lot of time reading topics he enjoys learning about. Up until he moved out of Terilace, he worked from dawn to dusk. When he woke up, he had to help his ma in the bakery, then he’d go to work. When he got back from work, he had to help in the bakery. The only downtime he got was the hour after the bakery closed and before frankie got home from work. He was able to go to his room and just take a break. Then when frankie got back home, he would have to help with dinner and cleaning around the house, he also watched his brother’s kids a lot. So when he finally finds a home with the people he loves, he’s able to work when he wants to on what he wants to. Then, once he’s settled, he starts to get sick. He knew he would, even before he found out about his shadow magic. It just happens when you suppress your magic for twenty years (give or take). He wrote letters to everyone who he thought should know (family, emberly, haven, old work friends, robert) and dies in his late thirties or early forties (i havent decided yet). 

Theres so much more i could talk about (and i probably will eventually) but for now, it’s almost 4am, i have a full day and need to get some sleep. (feel free to ask about anything i brought up in this, i love talking about my wip)

4: What’s the time period and location in which your novel takes place?

GFS is set on a fantasy continent named the God’s Continent. GC is split in half with the north being a country called Noble and the south being a country called Commons. 30 years prior to GFS commons fell to Noble rule officially. Nobody bellow the border respects it. Noble are more traditionalist in nature, content to their rural life and ‘old fashioned values’. Common’s prefers innovation, technology and crime to get by. 

Good For Something is primarily set in South Commons City. Not a very nice place, really.  

5: Are there any former titles you’ve considered but discarded?

Before I decided on GFS, the working title was just “The Call of The Void” after the phenomenon of l’appel du vide which is basically like the phenomena of intrusive thoughts which are like “Oh this is so high up I could jump off this ledge” or “I could steer my car straight into traffic right now, huh?” but when someone isn’t actually suicidal. They’re usually random and fleeting thoughts. Its also called HPP (the high place phenomenon). Its a pretty cool concept that I thought related well to GFS.  

I also found it pretty cool bc in GFS there are these people called Voidians who worship the void element. Most of em are dead. Most. 

But yeah, I decided against it. Occasionally I still refer to it as The Call of The Void quartet or series. 

6: What’s the first line of your novel?

“I woke up in a puddle of my own vomit to the sound of sirens and gunshots.” 

7: What’s a line of dialogue you’re particularly proud of? 

I stole this from a last line tag i did but i do love this scene!!!!

“I ran out of second chances long ago.“

Ciel has a fuck load of tattoos, and kinda collects scars and scrapes over the course of the books. 

August has lots of healed self harm scars on his forearms.

Blood’s fingers permanently looked dipped in ink because of her curse (power)  

14: Which character most fits a character trope?

Trainor fits the Dumb Thot comic relief trope on the surface level but he’s so much more than that and i love him 

15: Which character is the best writer? Worst?

Kruse is the best writer, but in an academic sense. Cube or Saintly would be the best writers in a creative sense. 

16: Which character is the best liar? Worst?

Arguably, Ciel is simultaneously the best and worst liar. 

17: Which character swears the most? Least?

Ciel and August fight for the title of who has the worst potty mouth. Blood and Kruse never swear. 

18: Which character has the best writing? Worst?

Blood and August have the prettiest handwriting. Train and Ciel’s handwriting is illegible. 

19: Which character is the most like you? Least like you?

This is a difficult one. I’d say im most likely a mixture between Bryn, Ari and Blood. Like... partial sweet bean, partial mom friend but also takes no shit and drinks too much iced coffee.

None of them, theyre all deeply flawed and stupid idiots but I love them. But, I don’t think i’d want to be any of them lmfao.

...a lot lmao. but on tumblr i try to keep things appropriate for the general audience - usually no explicitly written nsfw or super dark themes

but in general im happy exploring the more extreme things in private with my best friend ( and have other good friends i could write more with too if it were a desire ) so what im willing to write isnt necessarily what im here for or interested in writing with new friends. i usu wont write much w someone at all if they seem to want to beeline for extreme/heavy topics wo us really knowing each other

theres also probably not a lot of room for any new soulfully deep romance bc i feel that so much with my otp for richter. so im generally just more interested in seeing what happens between personalities. smaller romances. superficial relationships. experimental ships. maybe some angst or soft imbalance in there but nothing emotionally demanding lmao. 

HOW  LARGE  DOES  AN  AGE  GAP  HAVE  TO  BE  TO  MAKE  IT  UNCOMFORTABLE ?

not very lmao. in his mainverse i usu dont ship him w anyone below thirty. but even if someones within his age range, if i met their character in a different verse or fandom ( or when i was rping a different character ) and associate them with being younger, i sometimes still cant stop thinking of them as a younger character and it squicks me a bit. a big part of that is discomfort of romanticizing ‘ older men ’ in particular so even if there was no significant age gap but the character comes off as teenagery or the relationship seems to have that kind of dynamic im also not into it

i do make exceptions when im rly comfortable with friends and might have developed it in a different light and we switch it for new verses. and i think in my head richters always older so when i rp him in younger verses im less picky about the upper age limit of his partners, depending [ but only like... by a lil percentage ]

oh and also for like synths or vampires or sosus or other odd age situations i tend to go by a mix of how old they look / act

sorta. im selective about actually having threads for things but generally ill throw art out and talk possibilities without needing much chemistry or interaction. like im open with the hypotheticals, not so much with the actual plotting and rping

maybe. i dont mind their character having one sided feelings / thoughts. ( unless theyre way young. ) and i do often feel like richter and other characters could be interesting pairings but im not always inclined to say anything ( usu just bc im slow and distracted lmao. ) 

but as far as sending memes in u usu dont have to ask. usually ill try to bend the memes meaning to answer in a nonshippy way if a ship seems impossible 

ALSO: richter is an in game npc so you are 100% welcome to canonize a ship w him for ur character, just dont expect my portrayal of richter to be that richter
