I think what a lot of people in the tags fail to realize that this BAN or -SELL TIKTOK TO AN AMERICAN COMPANY- isn't the win you think it is.
For those worried about privacy, I'm sorry to say that unless you're off-grid (or just not existing if you really think about it) your data is not safe.
When it comes to our personal data and even biometrics, having the GOVERNMENT come in (with reps voting for this at 80% which is the MOST we've seen them come to agreement on ANYTHING AS OF LATE)
this includes raising minimum wage, reproductive rights, ADA, a CEASEFIRE and so much goddamn more
SHOULD BE EXTREMELY CONCERNING
this is not them looking out for you. They see that we are able to communicate in a way that they CANT control so that scares them and so they want to take it away, or if they can't get rid of it, control it in a way where we can't communicate and come together. (Before you say oh go to another app, Meta, Tumblr, and beyond don't exactly let you communicate in such a fluid way and that's because they already have some sway in it!)
Ever since 2020 they've become scared of us because they see that if we learned to come together we can out number them! There is a reason that "cop cities" are being built, have been proposed to be built, or have been built in FOURTY-SEVEN states.
I really need yall to look up for a minute cause it's all connected. From the mishandling of a MASS DISABLING EVENT, to loosening covid restrictions, (btw the CDC now says you don't have to stay home if you're sick which!!! Stay home!!! If you're sick!!!!) From allowing corporations to get away Scott free with tax cuts, safety cuts, refusing workers to unionize- to making it illegal to be homeless and criminalizing something as suspicious as 2 people walking together masked up in DC- all while most people in the US are struggling to stay afloat...
It's all intentional. It's to keep us in control, working, and compliant. Cause if you don't? You're institutionalized or put to work in prison.
hey since it's coming up again: no it's not a good thing that the government wants to ban tiktok. no you should not be glad that the government might ban tiktok. no you should not respond to this with "good riddance" or "hurry up I hate that app". I should not have to explain this to you but the government banning a social media app is still a bad thing even if you don't like the UI or booktok or having to say "unalive" or how you think it's killing the very notion of attention spans. It's still bad. It's bad.
