hi! im mae!
well, my name is actually macey... but i like to go by mae online. i don't really care if you call me either. i thought id make a little intro post given i recently created this blog (it is actually a copy of an older one, but i wanted a fresh start).
my bio states most of it, i am 21 years old, i live in the united states, i identify as female, those are pretty much the basics. i consider myself a bit of a hobby collector and a gullible hyperfixater. some of my main hobbies include but are not necessarily limited to:
photography (i adore film, but due to no access to a darkroom anymore, i am primarily digital)
reading (mainly fiction, romance, fantasy, although i do enjoy an article concerning my special interests or mental health)
music (i play guitar, uke, and bass, as well as write my own music and lyrics, im a subpar vocalist though)
music listener (i am very passionate about the music i listen to, if it has resonating lyrics, i will listen to it, some of my favorite artists are mcr, coldplay, billie eilish (altho i think shes been a little iffy lately), eminem, $uicideboy$, brand new, and lana del rey)
crochet (mainly clothing, bags, and plushies)
doodling (i used to want to pursue art career wise, however was very burnt out and scarred by art teachers in high school and decided i couldn't use that for grades or income)
journaling (this is my most recent hobby picked up, however I've stuck with it decently strictly for over a month now and i am adoring it)
cd collecting (this is a passive hobby for me due to costs of CDs and a general life on spotify, however i do love collecting my favorite albums)
tarot and crystals (this is another passive hobby for me. i do not consistently practice tarot nor crystal meditation, however, if given the time and inspiration i will practice them. i wish i was more consistent, but i find these two to be moderately daunting)
I am currently pursuing an ASD diagnosis and am working with a clinic and insurance on finalizing testing, if anyone has gone through this process you know just how exhausting it is. I am diagnosed with ADHD. I believe these two things to be the driving forces in why i am the way i am and if not who i am. i strongly dislike statements such as "you are not your diagnosis" or "its just in your head." i am my diagnosis. it affects all aspects of my life. invalidating or denying that is invalidating me and ignoring a majority of my life and struggles. regardless, i may update here on how that whole process is going, tips i learn along the way, or further revelations that may occur during said process.
that being said i am a huge fidget toy enthusiast and am always looking for new fidget recommendations, i adore tangles, and these little edamame poppers, but id like to have more one-handed quiet fidgets.
some of my special interests are:
mental health and some disorders, i generally love learning how our brains work, both neurotypically and neuro-divergently
currently journaling its my main special interest and i adore looking for new spreads (ik a hobby sh)
crocheting (ik another hobby)
whales and whale sharks!!
collecting things, such as yarn, books, stickers, games, candles, skincare, and makeup (ngl most of it is purely collection)
japanese culture and foooooood
the northern lights
lake superior (i have always loved her and spent a year living a 15min walk from her)
i am a university student as well as working part-time, so the amount of activity on this page may not be consistent, as i already have an ever-changing life with variability in intensity from week to week.

Oh hello. Just me, back in your inbox to rant about H and L’s returning themes of change and growing up.
As previously mentioned - the Fleetwood Mac: Landslide -> blackbear: CHANGES (written by Louis) -> Cam: Changes (written by Harry) -> LT: Change(s) pipeline is very interesting.
Growing up and changing is such a common theme in their writing. They both have written songs speaking about how they’re afraid they’ve changed and grown up and people they used to know and love might say they don’t know them anymore. They speak of being scared of that growth and change and outgrowing their old lives/home/people.
Enter 2022: Change(s), Matilda, Late Night Talking
Louis first debuted his new song Change(s) at the Away From Home Festival and has recently brought it back into his tour set list. Harry also just released a new album with the aforementioned songs.
Change(s) talks about how it’s okay that everything has changed. Things change. People move on, but they’re still the same inside as they’ve always been. Matilda; where do I begin with her? The entire song is so beautiful. H brings back the idea of changing and growing but this time, he’s okay with it. “you don’t have to be sorry for leaving and growing up”. Late Night Talking might be overlooked in the change conversations. But the lyrics, “I’ve never been a fan of change, but I’d follow you to any place” coming from someone who has continually talked about their dislike/struggle with changing and growing up? But they’re okay with changing and moving on with a certain person? So LOUD.
This has been your latest update in sleep deprived rambles of these boys struggles with changing and growing up, but how they’ve become okay with it, learned to manage and grow in it, especially with the other by their side.
yes!!! everything, but we have to YELL that last part bc YES!!! change and not knowing what's to come is such a huge theme on harry's house. it really has been throughout their entire discography, bc hs1 and fine line's heaviest songs f.e. deal with change, essentially. but now it's like they've zoomed in on it, yk?? kinda as if they figured out that that is what the problem was all along: them having to deal with change and how hard that can be, and how they don't necessarily like it. that it takes some time to process change. the place they come from and really love changing without them bc they're hardly ever there anymore. the people around them changing and hurting them bc they were close and trusted. the music they like changing. the people who like their music changing. and then it's just the sweetest most heartwarming fucking thing that they're then just like. yeah let's just keep driving. we'll make it down this road. together.

(Before I continue, I'm just reminding you that I have not been a rock/ hair metal fan for very long. I have for about a year, but only recently have I started actually "exploring" all the most popular bands and their music. So I don't want you to think I've been living under a rock my whole life. I promise you, I don't 😅.)
That being said, I finally gave Metallica a try. I knew about three of their songs before I listened to them in more depth, and I liked those three. But after spending a few days listening to mainly them to get familiar with them, I have to say that they are a little too heavy metal for my liking. Now, I do NOT think they are a bad band, and I don't think they're overrated. If you like all-out heavy metal, it doesn't get much better than that.
I would never, ever openly diss Metallica to anybody. They are NOT a bad band. I understand they are a legendary band and that a lot of people love them. And I don't necessarily dislike them. I'm only saying that they are a little too heavy metal for me to really call myself a fan of, if that makes sense.
But, I did find a handful of their songs I really like. I can count eight songs by them I liked and will add to my playlist. They are- Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, Enter Sandman, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, and One. That's seven, but I'll add in their live cover of The Ecstasy Of Gold. I LOVE that song so much, and I love Ennio Morricone's music. So including that, that's eight. My favorite out of those is The Unforgiven. I LOVED it. But I don't care to venture any further with Metallica is what I guess I'm trying to say.
Also, don't judge- Kirk Hammett was super cute in the 80s. He had such a baby face 🥰. His hair was the most beautiful thing about him to me, though. It reminds me of Slash's. 💛
So, what are your thoughts on Metallica? I think I see you post about them from time to time- occasionally.

I do love Metallica. Their early stuff IS very heavy. My fave era would probably be ‘86-‘91 which would be the albums Master Of Puppets, …And Justice For All, and the Black Album. I see you’ve got songs from both those albums among the ones you like. The Black Album is one that I grew up on (it came out the same year the Illusion albums did) so it was one I played a lot. Nothing Else Matters is probably my favorite. It’s a really beautiful song if you listen to the lyrics. Most people probably don’t realize that it’s actually a love song. Enter Sandman, One, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Fade To Black, Sad But True, and Wherever I May Roam are some other favorites. If you like The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters, you may like Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Fade To Black. Give those a listen. They’re not so heavy as a lot of their stuff. As far as looks go, I’m not super attracted to any of them really. I guess I’d pick bassist Jason Newstead over anybody else. Or Dave Mustaine, he’s cute.
Side note: I like Ennio Morricone too. I love instrumentals and movie scores. My favorite composer is John Barry. LOOOOVE his music.

I have a real stupid question/challenge for you, if you want. (you can also tell me to shoo, i won't be mad lmao)
I have a friend who insists that I'll fall in love with BTS if I give them a chance, based on the fact that I love montero and lemonade. they don't listen when I tell them that 1) just cuz I appreciate a few beautifully-crafted, pop-flavored hip-hop albums, doesn't mean that I now like pop; and 2) I have a raging hate-on for manufactured boy bands that dates back to the new kids on the block era. I'm not mad about them anymore, just can't find it in my limited attention span to engage with manufactured pop groups, even when they're quite good in every measurable way.
I've listened to the big singles and they didn't hook me. i appreciate what they're doing, but it just doesn't appeal to me. 🤷
so, I guess my question to you is, do you know any good BTS songs that might change my mind? anything bluesy or reminiscent of old-school 80s rap? any super 90s throwback tracks? idk, I'm doing my best to be open minded :|

BTS has a massive discography, and I dislike plenty of individual songs. I guarantee there's at least one song you'll find tolerable, though whether you'll become a BTS fan is another story.
I have little patience for New Kids, though I do like some bouncy dance music. BTS have a pretty high degree of artistic freedom, considering everything. The packaging is slick. The inside is considerably less hollow than usual. If you've been listening to their recent English-language hits... uh... they have their good points, but I really don't think those are representative of BTS overall—except insofar as they represent their intense desire to win a Grammy.
I'm not great at telling what's like what, so IDK which of their songs best fit your criteria necessarily, but I'll pick a few for you to try. As a listener, I'll think some hip hop sounds familiar, but it's only when I see other people's reviews that I understand what era it's reminding me of. (TBH, what I personally did was make a spreadsheet of everything they'd done, including random soundtrack songs and solo work and just try everything in order.)

I might start with the BTS rappers' solo work. Try RM's second mixtape, mono. I like listening to this as soothing background music at night.
Suga goes by Agust D as a solo artist. His song 'Agust D' is one of my favorites. The lyrics to many of their songs are quite clever too, though of course, as a non-Korean speaker, I have to rely on other people's explanation. (The basic content here is "I may be an idol, but I'm still twice the rapper you are".)
J-Hope tends to sound kind of... well... goofy. I like his voice in Baseline.
He did cover Chicken Noodle Soup, which is certainly old, but I don't actually like the original version of that song.
The Cyphers are great: Cypher Pt. 2, Cypher Pt. 3, Cypher Pt. 4.

If you want to know who they think their influences are, they outline a bunch of them in Hip Hop Lover.
Dionysus is one of their big showstoppers that I like a lot better than, say, Permission to Dance.
Louder Than Bombs is a favorite of mine.

I'm not usually super into the vocalists-only songs, but maybe you'd enjoy some of them. Some people find House of Cards bluesy. Not sure how much I agree.

I guess a couple of their older albums are considered particularly oldschool, though maybe that's because of that ultimate scourge of old albums the skit. (Kill it with fire!) Also, I like a lot of the sound, but their fashion at the time, gaaaaah! You can see some images of the full horror on this lyric video to We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2. I like N.O a lot and Satoori Rap. That latter celebrates regional dialects, which is neat.
And one of their better-known songs and one of my personal favorites is Baepsae, an anthem of youthful discontent that makes use of a Korean saying and turns it on its head.

Opinion on cover design: idk why but the first thing i thought was that it was a Modern Baseball-Ass Album Cover. which isnt even necessarily true. i dont particularly like the cover but its Fine. dont hate it
Actually im scrapping the rest of these bullet points since i cant really properly answer them i'll just give like my General first impressions of the album. It's good! i do like it. I'm not super into it but i think that has less to do with the quality of the music and more to do with the kinda music i've been into lately (not really this) i do still like it though. This feels almost like a mean thing to say but the more upbeat tracks here kinda remind me of Blink-182? actually the vocals here REALLY remind me of the band Riley! now that i'm thinking about it. Not a bad thing.
Tracks i liked here, the first few tracks on the album are kinda blending together for me rn but i didnt Dislike any of them. 36 Degrees stood out to me I liked that one a lot, the title drop in it was like, good payoff. I also liked Nancy Boy and Swallow. this is a tangent but something making me laugh is every time i try to google the lyrics to a song on this album the first autofill is "[song title] lyrics meaning"
Rate: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 solid 8 here. i'd probably rate it higher if i were in more of a mood for this music. definitely won me over though i'll probably listen to more of this band eventually !
