i really enjoy babe & way's relationship in a tragic sense u_u how way was one of the few people babe trusted and held dear to him for 10 years. how way's love for babe is so strong yet unhealthy.
way manipulates babe and nudges him to isolate himself but way genuinely believes at least part of what he's saying. of course babe shouldn't trust anyone who tries to get close to him because they could be using him, way is one of those people!!! the mindset way pushes onto babe is unhealthy but it is also way's own mindset.
way's crush on babe is more obsession than romantic love, but it's still love. the kind of love that hurts. one of the biggest babe & way tragedies in my opinion is that way thought what he was doing was not just right (in the sense that he believes it is Correct, not that it is Morally Okay), but the only way to secure their safety and freedom. everyone knows this is not true but way is so mentally deep in the trenches that to him it IS. this is information that greatly upsets me!!!!!!
another thing i enjoy is that babe knows absolutely nothing about way (pavel and nut joked about this on a radio show even) because way hides from him. way hides from everyone on x hunter but it does seem like he is more open just slightly with alan even though he's known babe just as long and considers him to be his best friend. on top of this, babe is shown to be unaware of way's romantic feelings (or deliberately ignoring them, which isn't any better). babe does not know anything about way.
on the opposite side of this, way knows so SO much more about babe than he lets on. he doesn't need to hear from babe about how tony trafficks children and he sucks because way has lived it. he knew before anyone else what tony's plans for babe were and who the enigma is, because That's Him! he doesn't seem to understand babe but he knows so much regarding babe's past. this contrast between babe and way is something i enjoy greatly ☝️
^^^^ all this is not to defend way though i do a lot of that also i just really like the Tragedy of it all. how doomed everything was from the start and it is all because of tony, as many things in pit babe are. truly one of the pit babe duos of all time.
in the next life, please be nice to me. don't deceive me again. just be a good friend, idiot.
side note: babe & way is one of the major changes between the novel and the series (other than the entire new characters of course). just comparing the novel version of the attempted sa scene with the series: in the novel, way is.... well...... an incel. he wants to impregnate babe almost solely because he wants to start a family with him despite knowing that babe is extremely against having children. the series changed that almost completely. series way thinks what he is doing is the only way forward and it is so painful to watch because he does not see any alternative. he's too lost in his own despair. this, of course, does not mesh well with a few specific way scenes (the pete & way bar scene in ep 8 i believe? and every babe & way scene after ep 9 except their bar fight) where the show emphasizes way's seemingly romantic love for babe. every day i pray someone leaks the original script for the part pavel and nut improvised.

Flight - Rudy Pankow
A/N: This makes Elaine out to be a bitch, but I don’t think she is. I support her and Rudy 100% and think they make a wonderful couple. It was more for the plot.

MASTERLIST
Flying had never been a problem before. You’ve never had to film anywhere that you couldn’t drive to. You had done some acting jobs around LA, and one time you went to Nashville before getting a part in Season 2 for Outer Banks. Netflix had offered to pay for you to fly out to North Carolina, but you opted for driving instead. You didn’t know anyone you were filming with, so you drove yourself.
Of course, you had been dreading filming in Barbados since you got the part. You had the biggest fear of flying and had been avoiding it since you were little. When you got the email from Netflix that contained your ticket to say that you were panicked was an understatement. Drew, Chase, and Maddie C. were already in Barbados, so it was going to be you, Rudy, Jonathan, Elaine and Maddie B. Everyone was just going to carpool to the airport.
Rudy had a thing for you since he met you at the first table read for season 2. You were shy at first but quickly came out of your shell when you started to get to know everyone. Rudy thought you were hilarious and enjoyed your company so that’s what caused him to be knocking on your door the night before you guys had to leave for your flight.
When you opened the door in your sweatpants and messy bun, he still thought you looked beautiful. “Hey, I thought you would be asleep.” Rudy spoke up and you moved to let him in your apartment. “Yeah well, I guess I’m a nervous flyer.” You laughed to yourself, “do you want a cup of tea?” You asked grabbing one of your mugs. Rudy had noticed your book and mug in the living room when he sat on the couch. “I hope I’m not interrupting you” Rudy spoke up as you walked into the living room handing him a drink. “No, you’re not, I just figured I’d pass the time until I fell asleep.” You responded, the both of you sitting on the couch. “I didn’t know you’re a nervous flyer, what did you do when you had to come to North Carolina?” Rudy questioned. “Uh, I drove.” You shrugged like it was the simplest thing to do. “What, that’s like a 3-day drive.” He said baffled by your answer. “Well yeah, but it’s a good way to see the country.” You laughed thinking about the memories you made on the solo road trip. “And you did it by yourself? That’s badass Y/L/N.” Rudy said smirking.
The two of talked the whole night away and you showed him pictures of your trip across the country and told him all the stories. Rudy thought that he could listen to you talk all night, even after he started to get tired. He finally excused himself from you place promising to sit with you on the plane tomorrow to ease your mind.
You woke up the next morning with a sick feeling in your stomach and it only got worse at the thought of getting on an airplane. You got the rest of your last-minute things packed up and brought out by your door getting ready to meet everyone at JD’s car. You were the last to show up when Elaine shouted out to you. “I thought you weren’t going to show.” She spoke with a snarky tone, and Rudy nudge her shoulder getting her to knock it off. “Yeah, well I’ll probably be late to my own funeral.” You laughed trying to ease the tension. You guys all piled in the car and Elaine took the opportunity to sit next to Rudy and made you sit in front with JD, while Maddison sat in the back.
Elaine also had a thing for Rudy and didn’t enjoy you showing up to take his attention away. Everyone thought they were going to get together after season 1 but it never happened. Then you came along, and Rudy pulled all his attention to you. Elaine wasn’t too secretive about her hatred towards you, but you just brushed it off as a mild insecurity and jealousy. You weren’t angry that you had to sit up front but instead talked to JD and tried to ease some of your nerves. No one else knew that you were a nervous flyer and you preferred to keep it that way. Even though it was something simple, you were still embarrassed.
Once you guys got to the airport the nerves got even worse. Because of the pandemic you guys had to wear mask and you also had sunglasses on, so it was hard for people to recognize you guys. Rudy helped you carry your bag into the airport and then guided you to TSA. “Have you ever been in an airport?” Rudy asked whispering in your ear so no one could hear. “Uh once when I was little with my mom. We had to pick up my grandma.” You responded. Your eyes darted around to all the people and different screens and you started to get overwhelmed. Rudy could sense that you were started to get anxious and put a hand at the small of your back pulling you closer to him. “We’ll get checked in and then go get some air, okay?” He explained grabbing his passport and paperwork. You pulled yours out of your purse and laughed when he saw that you had everything in a little Ziploc baggy. “Alright, that’s the most mom-like thing I’ve ever seen” he said.
Rudy helped you get through the process of security and then you guys were about to go outside when Elaine spoke up, “where are you guys going?” She asked almost annoyed of you guys leaving. “Y/N/N and I are going to find the bathroom. Safety in numbers.” Rudy fibbed, pulling you along. Once you guys got outside the two of you sat on a bench close enough to your gate that you wouldn’t have to rush when your flight got called. Rudy watched your body relax a bit when you weren’t stuck inside.
“It’s going to be okay Y/N/N.” Rudy spoke pulling you to sit on the bench with him. “I know, I know.” You said half trying to convince yourself. “I’ll be next to you the whole time, and we can just talk, or you can read your book. It’ll be over before you know it.” He spoke and put a hand on your shoulder, and he could feel your breathing increase. He knew what was happening, you were about to have an anxiety attack, “okay Y/N, you need to take a deep breath.” He rubbed small circles on your back. “I can’t do this Rudy; I can’t be in that death box for over 11 hours.” You spoke and your voice starts to shake. You look over at Rudy and he’s got a concerned look on his face. He takes your face in his hands forcing you to look at him, “you’re going to be okay Y/N, I’m going to be with you the whole time. Nothing is going to happen, just please take a deep breath.” He spoke firmly but you could feel the softness of his hands. “You promise?” “Of course, I would never let anything bad happen to you.” You nodded your hands in his grip, but he didn’t let go and you could feel his hot breath on your face. Rudy was looking into your eyes and then his eye flicked down to your lips and you could feel yourself getting nervous again but this time it wasn’t the flight, but because of how close Rudy was too you.
Rudy leaned in closer, and you let your eye flutter shut. You felt Rudy gently place his lips on top of yours and you pushed yourself closer to him to deepen the kiss. It that moment it felt like you were on cloud nine, as if it were only you and Rudy left in the world. Rudy pulled away and left you smiling like and idiot. “I’ve wanted to do that for a while now.” He whispered, and you kissed him again. “Me too.” The two of you giggled and then heard your flight get called. “Just remember, I’m here the whole time.”
When the two of you got back to the gate the others had already boarded expect for Elaine. When Rudy saw her, you could feel his grip on your hand tighten. “There you guys are, what took so long?” She asked seeming annoyed. “The just called for the flight, we’re not that late.” You spoke up, and Elaine rolled her eyes at you. “I saved you spot next to me Rudy, Y/N can sit next to Madison.” She explained pulling at Rudy’s arm. “Uh that’s okay, Y/N is kind of nervous so I said I would sit with her.” He explained trying not to be rude. Elaine scuffed, and the three of you boarded the plane. You were sat right behind Maddie, JD and Elaine, “here take the window seat, it’ll make it easier on you.” He said stepping to the side so you could get in. The flight attendant was giving the inflight instructions, explaining how to put the oxygen masks on and your leg started to shake. Rudy noticed and put his hand on your thigh, “it’s okay, they have to explain all this stuff Y/N/N.” He whispered in your ear kissing your cheek. You nodded in confirmation and soon enough the pilot was getting the plane ready for take off.
As the plane started to gain speed and lift in the air you watched out the window, and Rudy got you a drink of water for the flight. You guys had been flying for about an hour and you were looking out the window but Rudy’s grip on your thigh never left. He was talking to JD, when you guys hit some turbulence. You jumped and clung onto Rudy’s hand, “nervous flyer Y/L/N?” JD asked not missing the way you reacted. “I don’t know why she would take a job like this if she’s scared of flying. Kind of stupid if you ask me.” Elaine piped in making you feel embarrassed. “It’s not stupid Elaine, everyone is scared of something.” Rudy said defending you. “It’s fine babe, just a bit of turbulence.” He said and you blushed at the nickname. “Can we listen to music or something, I think I just need a distraction.” You asked, and Rudy pulled out his headphones.
“Thanks.” You spoke, not really knowing what to say to him, “I owe you big time.” Rudy laughed, “it’s no problem. When we get to Barbados you can self isolate with me if you want.” He responded. “I hope I’m not being to forward, but I’ve had a crush on you for a while now, and I’m going to assume you feel the same for me.” He explained. You did have feelings for Rudy, you always had but you kept your distance because you thought he had a thing for Elaine. “I would love too self isolate with you. it would be much better then doing it alone.” You said leaning in to kiss him. “And yes, I like you too.”

The next few days was a blur of me cooped up in my room while Sam knocked on my door to get me out. I didn't want to leave. I stayed in the corner of my room with my hoodie pulled over my face as I grieved. Calum texted me everyday to make sure I was okay. I called him over once when Sam was out to get some stuff for the house. The pain being too much for me to handle on my own.
The day Calum stayed with me in my room to hold me, I realised that I'd much rather being with someone else than mourn on my own.
"You're out." Sam froze when he came home and looked into the kitchen.
"Yeah, I realised being on my own wasn't helping much." I shrugged as I pulled a glass from the cabinet.
"Was it because of that Calum kid?" He cocked an eyebrow, placing the grocery bag on the counter. I didn't say anything as I filled my glass with water. "You know," He leaned on the counter, "I still haven't met him properly, and I find it fitting as your brother to know who my baby sister is dating." He smirked. I smiled as I sipped on my water,
"You'll meet him properly soon." I chuckled, "I'm scared you'll like him too much that you'll hog him from me. I want him for myself right now." I joked.
"He's that great?" He teased.
"Haha." I rolled my eyes sarcastically, "But yes, he did convince me to be around other people. He's upstairs actually. I called him over." I said.
"No monkey fun while I'm in the house, please." He joked.
"So if you're not home it's okay?" I cocked my own eyebrow.
"Smart ass. It's not okay at all for me." He huffed out, "But if you really want to, do it while I'm out." He laughed and ruffled my hair. I giggled as I walked back up to my room where Calum was sitting on the bed petting Max. I sat down and handed him the glass,
"Sam's home." I said as he took the glass. "He said he wants to really meet you properly, but I told him I'm scared he'll steal you away from me." I giggled.
"You make me sound like I'm the best person in the world." He shook his head as he drank the water. "But he really wants to meet me properly?" He asked, putting the glass down. I nodded. "Oh god, now I need to impress your brother." He pouted.
"You don't need to. I buttered you up for him since you're a really great guy anyways." I chuckled, lying down. He smiled,
"It's still your brother." He laid down beside me. I turned so that I was facing him and smiled as I poked his lip with my finger. He scrunched up his nose, "What are you doing?" He asked.
"So squish." I stuck my tongue out. He opened his mouth and bit at my finger. I pulled my hand away with wide eyes as he laughed. "No chomping." I wagged my finger at him. He smiled and brought his hand to my face. I closed my eyes as his thumb ran across my cheekbone. "Thank you for being here." I whispered. He smiled,
"Anything to make you feel better, love." He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to my forehead. I closed my eyes and let him pull me closer until I was snuggled up to his chest. "Get some rest, babe. You'll feel a bit better in the morning." He whispered. My stomach flipped at the mention of 'babe'. I closed my eyes for at least an hour, until I could hear snoring from both Max and Calum. I looked up at Calum's sleeping face and smiled slightly to myself as I realised how cute he looked.
His entire face was the most peaceful I had ever seen him and his lips were parted slightly as soft snores came out. His eyelashes rested on his chubby cheeks and his brown hair was messy and flat on his head. I leaned up and pressed a kiss to his jaw before getting myself comfortable and fell asleep for the first time since Eli's death.
The funeral was held a few days after that. I stepped into the cemetery with Calum holding onto my hand,
"It'll be okay." He whispered before kissing my head. I squeezed his hand before we continued to walk towards the grave. Elizabeth's parents were sitting on the chairs laid out as well as Michael's family. He looked up at me and stood up,
"Nyra," He came over.
"I'm sorry." I smiled sadly.
"What is there to be sorry about? I should be sorry that you had to see her go like that." He ran a hand through his already messy hair. I looked at the open casket to see her pale body wrapped in a black dress and her eyes closed.
"She was really something else." I chuckled, "She bet me that if she died first, I have to get drunk the night of her funeral and pass out wasted." I shook my head, "I didn't think it would be so soon." I looked at her for a bit longer before the priest started speaking,
"We would like to begin this funeral of Elizabeth Harlequin, aged 17." He spoke. We all sat down and Matt turned to me. I nodded at him. He closed his eyes and turned back to the ground. "Elizabeth, also known as Eli was a special child..." My head buzzed out his words as I stared at the open casket. Her fingers were wrapped around the bouquet of black flowers, the familiar dark red nail polished chipped at the edges of her nails.
"Nyra." Calum nudged my arm.
"Huh, what?" My head snapped towards him. He gestured to the priest,
"As Elizabeth's closest friend, would you like to say a few words to honour her life?" He asked.
"O-Oh," I stuttered out as I stood up. I walked over to the small podium and pulled a crumpled up note from the pocket of my black dress. I opened it and looked at the messily scribbled words before crumpling up and putting it back in my pocket. "What's the one thing everyone knew about Elizabeth?" I asked, looking up at her family, "She was tough. She was in fact one of the strongest people I knew. At school people.." I can't remember what I said. I only knew that I was speaking true from my heart and that Elizabeth would prefer it that I didn't use what I planned just so that I was truly sincere. I stepped off the podium once I was done and stood at the casket. I pulled out one of the few lighters she gave me and slipped it into her hands, "Just in case there are cigarettes with you." I joked. I sat down at my seat and wrapped my hand around Calum's.
"She's be really happy if she saw you say that." Michael whispered, turning to me, "The way you put the note back into your pocket and thought of that on spot."
"I know, that's why I chose to do it instead." I nodded. I turned to Calum and noticed his attention was up in the clouds. "Calum?" I questioned but he didn't react. I waved my hand in front of his face, "Earth to Calum?" I looked at him. He blinked a while before turning to me,
"Sorry, zoned out a bit." He murmured.
Calum's POV
"Please take care of her." She whispered, "She's the only person I could actually trust in my life. I don't want anything happening to her." She cupped my face, "You're a great kid, Calum. You both got really lucky." She smiled.
"What happened?" I asked her, "I thought your wounds weren't that bad." I furrowed my brows. She let out a chuckle as she pulled her hands away,
"I never told anyone this, but I was sick. Really sick. So when I got hit in the eyes and stabbed a couple time, my energy went because I was so scared I started to trash my room. When I heard Max barking, I knew I couldn't hide how scared I was to Nyra. But I didn't want to tell her I was sick. She was already worried enough, making her brace for it would've been even worse." She looked at her own body in the casket then down at the black dress she was wearing, "I never thought I'd be wearing this dress while you guys were still alive." She chuckled to herself.
"Nyra's trying really hard." I blurted out. She turned back to me. "She didn't sleep for 5 days straight after you died. She didn't talk to anyone, she didn't even talk to Sam. It took a lot, but I managed to convince her out of her room." I said.
"I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to cause this much hurt to her but," She crouched down in front of me, "Sometimes things happen, Calum. And when these things happen, you can just wish that you could turn back time because you know you'll never get to change it." She stood back up and looked down at her hands that were fading, "I have to go. I'm gonna see where I'm going." She stepped away from me as her body slowly started fading more. "Take care of her, please."
"I will." I nodded as I watched her close her eyes and disappear.
"Earth to Calum?" Nyra's voice called from beside me. I blinked a couple times to get ahold of my surroundings before shaking my head into reality.
"Oh, sorry. I zoned out." I mumbled out. She nodded and turned back as the casket started lowering.
"I'm gonna miss her so much." She sighed as she leaned her head against my shoulder.
"I know," I sighed as well as I watched the casket disappear into the ground.
