FINISHED THE VAMPIRE LESTAT WHY WAS THAT GOOD AS FUCK
#the vampire lestat#the vampire chronicles#it wasn't supposed to be good!! just silly and gay!! (which it also was)#but GOD was it gay#which is a reductive way of saying that Anne Rice does characters/relationships/gothic romance like nobody else#it's just so intoxicating ahhh#not sure how much I trust Lestat's characterisation of himself in this book lol but I love him nonetheless#looooove Gabrielle#Armand and Nicki both so darkly fascinating and tragic in their own way#probably the only thing making me think twice about 5 stars is the Marius section#which got a bit drawn out and info dump-y#I think Marius is interesting but I dont find him AS compelling as the other characters and it was a long time to be away from Lestat's POV#I still may give it 5 stars tho I haven’t decided yet. it's not like I hated that section it was just a relative lull compared to the rest#and anyway it was followed by the giddy high of 'I fell fatally in love with Louis' and their reunion soooooooo#lestat de lioncourt
