thinking about my inquisitors between Trespasser and Veilguard
Vesper Trevelyan
Vesper spends a few months unmaking the Inquisition and ensuring her people are taken care of — new postings, new patrons, the most trusted quietly set up under Leliana to become a smaller, tighter, more discerning operation — and then she and Cullen move to Arlesans for some much needed rest and recovery. Vesper's older sister Helene (Vicomtesse d'Arlesans) and her husband provide them a townhouse, and Vesper and Cullen spend a year or two learning how to live without the sky collapsing on them. They get married (a small affair, though Divine Victoria (Cassandra) officiates) and have their first daughter (Niamh). In that time, Vesper's eldest brother Kit (Bann Christopher Trevelyan, head of the family since their father died) finally manages to reinstate her into the family line and officially cedes the Trevelyan estate outside Ostwick to her, so Vesper and Cullen move to the Free Marches and into Vesper's childhood home. Cullen uses the land for his Templar rehabilitation program, and they raise hounds and horses on the land. They also run an outpost for Leliana's spy network out of their back rooms. Vesper splits her time between the ranch, the kids (they have two more, twins, Naomi and James), and the shadow of her Inquisition. Sometimes her work takes her abroad, but mostly she stays home and operates behind the scenes. She and Cullen are happily semi-retired, but she's ready to get back in the field if she's needed (fortunately they have a great babysitting network; the kids have loads of aunts and uncles).
Narayani Lavellan
Narayani declares the Inquisition disbanded and disappears before the ink on the order has dried. She makes a few stops—the Arbor Wilds, Crestwood, Wycome, the Tevinter border where a certain mercenary band operates—and then between one visit and the next, she vanishes. She lets a few people know she's going (Leliana, Bull, Dorian) but doesn't linger long enough to be talked out of disappearing into the Crossroads. On the occasion that she does pop up beyond the Veil, she can most often be found in the north. There's little to bind her to the south, or anywhere really, but she'll stop by to see Dorian, and sometimes the Chargers, and Arlathan Forest. Once or twice she even visits Leliana, who will always be her spymaster, even if she's sitting on the sunburst throne. At some point she intersects with the Veil Jumpers, but she isn't one of them and has no desire to be. As the years pass she becomes something of a ghost story, and then truly a ghost. (As tales of the wolf spread, so do tales of the hunter tracking him, though none of the stories say what she'll do once she catches him.) [AU version where she also has a little grey-eyed baby boy nine months after Trespasser. Whoops.]
Rasa Lavellan
Rasa maintains the Inquisition under Divine Victoria (Cassandra) as an honor guard. He doesn't make many decisions these days and mostly puts his energy towards fostering friendships and protecting the Divine. He's a little harder than he was in his younger days, and a little lonelier, but it doesn't change him much—he's still happy to help, still determined to do good, still eager to meet new people and make new friends. But he always keeps half an eye out for the wolf, and he knows that when the time comes for it, the full might of the Inquisition will go towards stopping Solas before he can ruin everything. He also makes frequent trips to Tevinter. It's important to foster friendships. And sure, there's grumbling and whispers about magisters in bed with the southern chantry, but Dorian does love a scandal.
