i've been trying to type up and articulate this for a couple days now but i guess the only way i can say it succinctly is that i'm tired of people slamming a piece of media they know nothing about. i'm not exempt from having done this, but i've been trying over the years to do this less because of the exact experience i'm having right now with Genshin.
out of all the people i've told i want to/have started playing the game, only 2 people were inquisitive/positive—and those are people who have played it. every single other response i've gotten has been essentially "eww, gross". those people being negative all have then proceeded to express to me, after i ask them why they'd say that, that they don't know a single thing about the game besides that it has gacha.
it's an open world rpg with major exploration, puzzle solving, a fun story, and a really really fun combat system. and i for one can't even believe it's free.
the gacha system isn't really shoved in your face and the game is CONSTANTLY giving you currency that adds up to pulls and even throws free pulls at you. it is entirely, 100% possible to easily Free 2 Play this game.
i'm not going to go into further details abt the gacha system & my thoughts & feelings on it besides the fact that progression is absolutely not locked behind spending RL money—you do not need to spend a single dime to play this game and still enjoy the entirety of it.
it's been really upsetting to find something that is actually extremely fun and entertaining (and free!) and finally know what this game is like only to have everyone i know who knows NOTHING about it make rude remarks to me about it. having to go back and explain it to people who then blink and go "oh, i guess i didn't know that" has been unnerving.
stop acting like something is some Great Evil you must Morally Reject whole cloth when you have 0 context for it. be inquisitive, maybe ask "what made you choose to start playing/watching/reading that?" but never been rude or unkind. chances are you're perpetuating some mindless internet hive mind of hate predicated on extremely limited knowledge, and you're using that to unintentionally hurt your friends while you're at it.
