i love you people breeding animals to be healthy and happy instead of following the 'ideal' breed standard i love you long-snout french bulldogs you can't hear wheezing from a mile away i love you retro pugs that breathe and have eyes that don't bulge i love you scottish straights with strong joints instead of chronic pain and degenerative joint disease i love you doodle/groodle breeders that actually care for their dogs health and temperment over profit i love you 'boring' wild-type reptiles bred for health and temperment over pretty colours i love you working-line GSDs with no hip or joint dysplasia i love you horses that look like real animals and not horrifically heat-damaged toys

#adopt or responsibly shop!!!#always been my motto instead of the overdone #adopt don't shop #especially since getting involved in the reptile scene (including birds)#because with reptiles and birds 'adopt' often means 'get a wild-poached or irresponsibly bred animal with tons of health issues'#especially overseas where wild-caught and non-native and irresponsible breeding is legal #don't get me wrong- adopting any animal can be great if you're the right person for it!#but for a lot of people it's just not the best option for any number of reasons #ex. wanting a specific breed to match your lifestyle and needs (i'm sorry but almost no shelter dogs are viable for things like herding)#or wanting an animal where you'll know every health risk and what they might genetically be predisposed to #via pedigrees with health scans and the way purebreds are studied for possible health risks #because and i'm sorry for bagging on shelter mutts again but without genetic testing there's no way to know what's really in them #let alone what breed-related health issues they'll be prone to until you're looking down at the vet bills!#ANYWAYS TLDR don't bag on breeders and the people who get their pets from them just on the principle of “adopt don't shop!!!”#not every breeder is a horrible abusive backyard for-profit anti-vaccine breeder! it's ok! you can admit it to yourself!#if you want to hate on breeders maybe focus on getting the actual bad ones taken down and not trying to destroy breeding in general #...i really ranted here didn't i. classic sleepless pluto moment
