I love how when you get over orthographical differences in sibling languages you can sometimes see one of them moving phonologically in the direction of another like hell yeah follow those evolutions that your relatives have traced before you
#like some dialects of italian starting to lose word-final /e/ and becoming like spanish#or some dialects of spanish losing word-final /s/ and sort of following in the paths of french#or some dialects of spanish having nasalization of word-final vowels before -n and sounding like portuguese#none of these are revolutionary in the grand scheme of historical linguistics but it's neat to see the same process happening again#maybe i should have been a historical linguist#perce rambles#nb: this is a very unprofessional analysis it's more of a silly musing i have occasionally#the processes might be completely different i have not looked into it
