add in a scene where he's been strong and seemingly unbreakable the whole story, and then is for some reason caught in a vulnerable place by an antagonist, and the FMC has to save him somehow >>>

or a scene where he opens up to the FMC finally and explains his tragic backstory and she sits there quietly listening, wiping his tears or holding his hand >>>
