halo 5 had to blow the lid off the whole damn setting.

if it didn't, the master chief would've been in a situation without an all-consuming apocalyptic war for too long and halo would've had to deal with how you can't keep maintaining the belief the master chief is a decent person without eventually putting him at odds with the unsc. and halo absolutely does not want to do anything less than it wants to do that.
