Picture To Burn
Tumblr media
You and Alex burn all of your ex’s stuff together after a drunken night at your house when you confessed to him. Things get a bit out of control.
Warnings: swearing?, mentions of sex but no actual sex, alcohol
A/N: Hi! I haven’t done a oneshot yet, in truth I’ve posted two things in total and no one has responded to them so have a cool little oneshot I had an idea for. Peep the Taylor Swift song as a title. I was struggling to come up with one and it came up on my playlist. Enjoy! (also sorry that it isnt all about the burning shit but i got carried away)
It was a Friday evening and you were drunk to shit. You and your boyfriend had broken up earlier on that day because he had slept with the same girl from his office even after you confronted him about it three months ago. Sure, you should’ve broken up with him then but you loved him. Too bad he was too busy fucking someone else to feel the same. A buzz on your coffee table snapped you back to reality from your drunken state.
Al Turner: Hey, Jamie told me about you and your boyfriends break up. How you feelin? Do you want me to come over or you could come over here?X
You grabbed the phone off the table and typed out a reply.
Hey Alex. I've had too much to drink to be able to come round yours. But if you could come over here that would be great. x
Al Turner: Great, I'll see you soon.X
Fuck. You needed to clean up. Alex was only about 5 minutes away, even less if he was driving. You quickly stood up groaning at the dizziness and headache that hit you at the sudden movement. You started picking up beer bottles trying not to count because you didn't need to know exactly how many it took to actually have an effect on you. You had just finished putting them in a bin bag when the door opened. There stood Alex with a crate of beer and his key in hand as well as an overnight bag on his shoulders. You hadn't invited him to stay the night but who were you kidding, of course you would let him.
"You should probably sit down love, you look like shit." Alex gave out a soft chuckle but he wasn't exactly joking, you knew that. You sighed and sat down patting the spot next to you on the sofa. Alex stepped properly inside and closed the door behind him, kicking his shoes off and finally locking the door before falling onto the sofa next to you. "Well I did bring these for you." He said holding up the crate of beer, "But it doesn't look like you need anymore to drink." He laughed, this time properly but you frowned. "You can't drink in front of me just because I've already had loads Al." Your words came out slightly slurred but you chose to ignore it. Alex however, did not. "Y/n, you are absolutely shitfaced and we both know it. Besides I can drink in front of you without giving you any, you just don't want me to." A smirk crawled onto his face, one that you almost wanted to punch right off.
"You're such a dickhead." You laughed with him as he gave you a beer taking one out for himself too. You opened it with the ring on your middle finger. The two of you sat in a comfortable silence as you stared at him. His beautiful eyes, his perfect smile, his stupid hair that he recently cut. You loved him, and not just as a friend. He was your best mate since you guys were 5, but you had a crush on him since you were 13. How could you admit it without ruining your friendship? "So, you gonna tell me what happened with him?" Alex spoke up, destroying the silence that had hovered over you. You sighed, a bit dramatically but apparently that was all you needed to let it out.
"Fucking hell, he was cheating on me within the first two months of us dating. Some random bitch in 'is office called Sarah or somethin. A friend of mine works with 'em and saw it 'appen. I confronted him about it and he said that he would stop, he apologised and well, I loved him so I kept dating him. I had a feeling it was still goin on I just didn't confront him about it. But earlier-" You paused remembering the events of today trying to put it into words and finally continuing. "Earlier I walked in on him and Sarah fuckin on the bloody sofa! So not only had they kept doin it, they started doin it in their free time too! I walked in and they didn't seem to notice until I had gotten so angry and- well I smashed one of his vases. Shocker but they stopped after that. He looked at me and started screaming about how I can't just walk into his house and that I should've knocked or texted. I told him that he gave me a key to use and that I had texted him but he was too busy with a whore to realise. He screamed at me to get the fuck out and I told him that he could keep on fuckin her 'cause I never wanted to see him again. He just said get out again so I threw the key at him grabbed the one to my house off his keys and left. Sarah just- stared the whole time. Like usually I would say that she had nothing to do with it but she did. That is what pissed me off wif her so much." You sighed realising you had been rambling and words getting more slurred and angry as you went on.
"Oh y/n. He's a bastard he isn't worth your time I promise you." You downed half of your beer as he spoke. "I mean I've given up on women at the moment, you should give up on men and we should just chill together." It was made as a jokey remark, you knew that. It did hurt slightly though. That Alex wasn't interested in you romantically. You played along with the joke though, "We should just fuckin date each other at this point." You both laughed. "I mean we already act like an old married couple it wouldn't make the biggest difference." Alex added on. You both laughed so much slowly making your way through the beers. When eventually you were so drunk that you couldn't think straight.
"Al?" Your quiet voice interrupted the silence that had hung over you. "Yea luv?" His words were loud considering the quiet atmosphere and he had no idea how to control the volume of his voice. "Y'know I luv ya right?" Alex turned to face you. "Yea? Why?" "No Al, not how you luv me. I mean I really really like you Alex. Not just as friends." There. It was out in the open. Your big crush on Alex was revealed after god knows how many years. "Really?" You nodded slightly averting your gaze from him. He grabbed the bottom of your chin and tilted your face up leaning in and giving you the best kiss you had in your entire life. He tasted like beer, old cigarettes and mint. God it was amazing. If you could've stayed there forever you would. He pulled away after what felt like an eternity but you still wished it was longer. He rested his forehead on yours and sighed before speaking. "In case you didn't get it, I like you too, love."
You and Alex spoke for hours on end before the idea came up to burn your ex's stuff. So now it was two am and you and Alex stood in your back garden with a box of your ex boyfriends stuff next to your barbecue. You had a bucket of water in case things went wrong obviously but other than that it was two drunk idiots with fire, therefore a bad idea. Alex was passing you items out of the box questioning every single one. "The fook is this love?" "That is a picture of me Brian and Sarah at a work party. Pass it 'ere." "Fookin' 'ell they're both ugly pieces of shit ain't they?" You held the picture above the fire and nodded while laughing before chucking the small amount of remains into a smaller bucket of water you had to put out the items. "Fuck, he didn't even 'ave good taste in music darlin' why were you wif him?" He had a shirt with Little Mix's logo on it and tour dates. The dickhead had bought it for Sarah but got it delivered to the wrong address so now you were left with it. "No clue Al, absolutely no clue." He passed you it and you placed it on the barbecue when things got out of hand.
"FUCK!" Alex quickly grabbed the bucket off the floor and chucked it over the barbecue while you turned it off. After a few seconds of you both staring in shock, the fire went out. "Fuckin hell." Your breathing was barely calming down but Alex pulled you into a hug. "Reckon that's a sign we should stop darlin'." Alex said chuckling softly. "Yeah probably." The two of you pulled away and started clearing up the mess you had made taking it inside and throwing the burnt items in the bin. "I think you should go to sleep love, you're wasted." Alex said to you after you had both cleared up. "Sure. But you're coming to bed too." You had a big smile on your face. "With you?" He cocked a brow and you nodded, "If you want me too then of course love." You grabbed his hand and you both made your way upstairs. getting changed with Alex in the bathroom you laid in the bed waiting for him.
He got in bed and you cuddled up to him. "Y/n?" You hummed into his chest in response. "What are we?" You looked up at him. "What do you want us to be Alex?" He thought about it for a minute before kissing your forehead. "I want to be yours love." You smiled and kissed him. "Well that's good because I wanna be yours too." He pulled you impossibly close to him as you fell asleep in his arms.
Your boyfriends arms.
It's a little rushed so sorry about that but I hope you liked it! The burning of your ex's shit was gonna be the main thing but I got distracted so it's a bit random. Hope you liked it!

Yuta (cold mafia boss)
Tumblr media
Prompt: 20)“The only time a man should be fast is when he’s trying to dodge my bullets.” - 100 Dialogue Prompts for Mob Boss AUs
A/N: since NCT 127 have decided to attack us since Friday with all their day/night posts and whatever more things they still got in the back storage, I just gotta do some fics about the dark concept, cause like, yea XD. I asked my friend whose bias is Yuta to choose a prompt and so, here we are XD
Warnings: some form of harassment, cursing (it's Yuta) drinking, spiked drink and hint of kidnapping
It was a Friday night and you were more than excited to finally have some time off to hang out with your boyfriend, Yuta, who was also part "gang leader" of NCT, an infamous group that people thought do illegal doings when they're the ones shutting the illegal businesses down.
Yuta being Yuta didn't disclose what he did from the beginning. But he also never fully tell you everything which, is understandable, it was confidential information. Despite so, Yuta never restricted your movements and you both would have some normal cafe dates, picnic dates, etc. Even so, there will be times where Yuta would have you do some personal training that includes self-defence, quizzes about types of chemicals, guns, etc. In his defense, he just wants you to be prepared should something goes wrong and you're alone.
Despite following Yuta's needs, you would sometimes joke about how it won't happen or that Yuta will make sure it wouldn't go too far or even if anything did happen, you were sure that Yuta would eventually find a way to make things right. Boi, were you in for a treat.
As mentioned, you were finally going to have a night out with Yuta after so long and had just finished getting ready when you received a text from Yuta saying, "hey love, sorry this is super last minute but could you change into a more black-tie dress code? We are sort of having a business dinner tonight and I want to bring you as my date. I'm on my way to pick you up right now. Don't worry, you don't have to put on anything you're uncomfortable cause whatever you wear, you still look hot to me ;)"
So of course you did what Yuta asked. You changed into a simple long black dress that fitted your figure and touched up your makeup a bit more and let your hair down. As you were putting on the last of your accessories and about to put your shoes on, Yuta was already ringing the bell. You quickly opened the door for him and told him that you were just going to put your shoes on which Yuta chuckled and helped you as he saw you struggling.
"You didn't have to go all out and wear heels babe, you'll have sore feet by the end of the night" Yuta mentioned, holding you steady as you were putting on your heels
"I mean, if it's just dinner, I'll just be sitting either way. You so owe me with a pizza movie night next week" you complained, finally putting your shoes
"Anything for you babe. Let's go" Yuta smiled, bringing your arm wrapped around his and helped you get into the car before he went to the driver's seat
Arriving at the dinner, you felt out of place since this was the first time Yuta actually brought you. Noticing your nervous state, Yuta wrapped his arm over your shoulder, telling you that he'll be right beside you unless you need to go to the restroom or need some personal space.
Nodding, Yuta gave you a heartwarming smile and brought you around. First and foremost, to his other members that were joining the dinner, the people you knew the week you and Yuta started dating. Allowing some weight off since how worried you were.
"Oh, (Y/N)!! Welcome!! Hope Yuta didn't force you to come here" Johnny greeted you which Yuta gave him a glare
"Well, he sorta promised me for a pizza movie night date next week, so I guess it's a winwin" you replied, chuckling
"Oooh, can we come? I miss just watching movies on the weekend" Jungwoo requested, pulling out his puppy eyes
"Maybe if you find yourself a girlfriend, I'd consider it" Yuta hissed, you hit him playfully
"Hey (Y/N), sometimes I wonder what you see in Yuta. He's so aggressive" Jungwoo joked as Taeyong tried to calm everyone and directed everyone to their table since dinner was starting
Dinner surprisingly went well and the opposing business partners were actually cooperating; like, they would agree to what NCT were asking, even giving some suggestions for the corporation. But nevertheless, every NCT member were on their best guard; heck, they all had their guns rested by their hips and even knifes hidden within their clothing.
Seeing how the talk about the business bore you, you took a big sip off of the drink the waiter had just poured for you. Suddenly feeling the urge to go to the bathroom, you excused yourself from everyone at the table, nodding your head when Yuta told you to immediately come back once you're done.
However, you didn't go to the bathroom because of the urge to pee or anything. Instead, it's because you didn't feel too good, maybe the alcohol in your drink was a bit too much to your tolerance but whether you want to admit it or not, you didn't feel good and felt like you could pass out at any second.
After purging and sitting down for a bit, you felt slightly better but not good enough because everything around you was tilted. Taking a deep breath, you just kept on thinking how the dinner table wasn't that far and if you hurry, you can just make it to Yuta's side and pass out however you like.
Pulling whatever willpower you have left, you stood up and started to walk out of the bathroom. Holding onto the wall, you slowly walked down the hall back to your table, until someone came up to you, asking if you were alright which you told them that you were fine. You may be dizzy and not feeling good, but you surely weren't dumb nor were you drunk.
Despite the guy saying that all he wanted to do was to help you, you clearly knew that wasn't his true intention since he was gripping you a bit too much to your liking. You've tried pushing him away but that only made his grip tighter. And to top it off, instead of helping you to your actual table or at least asking where your table was, he brought you to a more quiet area; making your heart beat quicker.
Unfortunately, at this point, whatever was in your drink was sinking it and you slowly start to lose consciousness and hope as from what you can see, you were far from your table. But thank the universe because all of a sudden you hear a loud ring and the tight grip was gone; instead, it was replaced by a warm embrace.
"Get him out of here before I actually kill him right here and now" you heard Yuta's stern voice commanding his other members
"I got you, baby. Let's get you back home, hmm?" you heard Yuta's voice turned soft; not having any more energy, you just nodded and fell asleep in his embrace
Because Yuta felt he can't leave you alone nor not torment the people that hurt you, he decided to bring you back to NCT's place. Wiping off your makeup and putting on your skincare for you, Yuta had one of the maids help change your clothes and then he tucked you in bed; not leaving your side until he's convinced that you're fully asleep before leaving a gentle kiss on your forehead then quietly leaving the room.
Walking out of the room, he saw Jeno and Jaemin, asking them to guard your room until he gets back. Making his way to the basement, he met with the NCT members that joined the dinner that did not end well at all.
Turns out, not long after you left, the neos already had a bad feeling; that something was not right, especially since their "business partners" were eyeballing the situation around them and it was revealed that the dinner was just a cover-up and that they were planning to use you to get to the neos, which clearly did not end well for them.
"Is she alright?" Taeyong asked, seeing Yuta was fuming
"She's very much passed out the second I found her. Are they all in there?" Yuta questioned strictly
"Yea. All tied up and blindfolded on the ground" Johnny mentioned
"Good" Yuta smirked, slamming the door open, making the prisoners jerked in surprise
"Rise and shine motherf*ckers. I hope you're ready for what's coming" Yuta shouted as some of the neos took their blindfolds off
"And y'all call yourselves men. Tch. You guys may be agile but not agile enough. The only time a man should be fast is when he’s trying to dodge my bullets. Not getting caught by their enemies. And surely not looking or thinking to do anything to another person's girlfriend. Oh well, what's done is done. Be lucky that we all got there in time. But, that doesn't mean I'll go easy on you. Let's see...should I start off with your fingers because you touched my girl or your head for ever thinking that little stunt of yours. Either way, I'm definitely going to take my time with you all" Yuta ranted, a smirk forming on his face as he saw the horror of his prisoners while the neos put their blindfolds back on
A/N: yeap, this turned out longer than expected. Welp, this is what happens when NCT updates with a dark concept I guess XD

“Love and War / Chapter II″ - Luca Changretta x reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Waking up to an empty bed and the words that Luca left for you, you soon realise that everything is going to go down today, and you’ll soon have to pick a side.
A/N: I swear that this post took me at least three tries, tumblr kept deleting and/or messing up the formatting so I’m really hoping that this is worth it lol 💕
Words: 2.7k
Chapter I Chapter III
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
The next morning you shifted in bed, stretching your arms in search of your lover’s body, but all you felt was the crumpling sheets, still warm from where his body was not too long ago. You groaned, sitting up and scanning the room, eyebrows scrunched into a tired look. If you had to guess what had happened the night before just by looking at your room you wouldn’t have had any clues. Your clothes were neatly folded by the chair and there was no other evidence that anything had indeed happened. No clothes abandoned on the floor, no man lying next to you.
You walked down the stairs almost second guessing yourself, thinking over the night's events while you prepared a cup of coffee that you so desperately craved. Taking a big sip your eyes landed on the small table by the door, only usually adorned by a small plate for your keys and some letters that you hadn’t gotten around to opening yet, now decorated by a beautiful bouquet. You never had flowers around, the item useless and expensive, not something that you could afford with your paycheque, but just with their presence they lit the room up, their delicate perfume filling your lungs. You smiled and walked up to them, lifting the small card up to read it. A simple phrase full of adoration and love, with a few words in Italian, made you blush at the love you felt, but the final sentence made your heart drop.
If today is kind with my soul, I shall meet you in your dreams tonight, mio amore.
His handwriting was smooth and elegant with each word, but the last sentence was slightly messy, revealing his feelings maybe more than he was used to. His fear. He didn’t think he’d make it back.
So today was the day.
You scurried over to the phone, picking it up and calling the Shelbys, hoping that someone, anyone, would answer, but no one did. There was no point in leaving the house, you wouldn’t know where to find them and you had no way of knowing where Luca was either. There were many places where this showdown could happen, and even if you found it, what were you going to do? You couldn’t just waltz in hoping not to get shot. Still, the mix of emotions in your chest made you dizzy. Why didn’t he say anything? You dreaded the images that flashed before your eyes, first that of Tommy’s lifeless body, still clutching his gun, then that of Luca, tumbling as a bullet hit him square in the chest.  Tears fell as you pictured those scenarios, but knew that that was all they were. They weren’t real. But even knowing that, you couldn’t stop pacing around the room, counting the minutes and going over the events of the past few weeks.  You didn’t know how to feel about this whole ordeal. You never forgot how Tommy and his family welcomed you when you had been left with nothing, giving you a job, food, inviting you over for drinks and celebrations, but as much as you dreamed of it, you’d never be part of them. You fit in, but not fully. You weren’t part of their circle, but you were part of their “clean” life. Tommy made sure to to leave you out of the dirty deeds, even if you gathered what happened behind closed doors, and by doing so he shut you out of the only part of their life that would make you fully fit in with them. Then Luca arrived, and the calls, on the phone that Thomas brought just for you, since you couldn’t afford one in any other way, started becoming less frequent, with less news. No more talking about the business, no more working by their side, no more gossiping with Ada or Polly on Saturday evenings. You still got your salary, somehow left by your door with nothing else attached to it, not even a note, but that didn’t change the stark difference in your routine. You barely felt like family, or whatever you had ended up being, anymore. You felt even more left out now. So when Luca came around and actually listened to you, and talked to you, and shared his interests while asking about yours, you felt appreciated, loved. You had found somewhere where you fitted.  And now here you stood, weary of whose death you’d have to cry at the end of the day.
It took hours for the phone to ring with news, which made you jump into alertness, rushing over to answer. “Where is he?” You stayed quiet for a moment, fully expecting to hear Polly’s or Ada’s voice, not Tommy’s. He was alive, and clearly Polly had told him about your meeting with the Italian. “Where is-” “Where is he?” he raised his voice in unison to the loud sound you heard not far from him, probably his fist banging against the table.  So they still were both alive. You let a breath out that you were unaware you had been holding, gripping your clothes tightly, adrenaline running in your veins from the news.  He didn’t usually raise his voice, so his anger was evident, yet you weren’t sure if it was directed at you or at Luca. He clearly had gotten away, and the thought of that was enough to lift that weight off your chest. “I don’t know, Thomas.”  “You knew last night, though, didn’t you? When he was in your bed? Bet it felt good, eh, fucking the enemy?” You didn’t answer, your face blushing in shame and anger. He had no right to spy into your personal life. You knew that in his books you were on the wrong side of the war they were fighting, but his words were harsh, cutting through you without any of the warmth they once held. “Don’t defend a fucking wop. Tell me.” “I don’t know where he is. But this has to end, Thomas, this war you’re-” “Why don’t you tell that to your friend?” He pronounced the last word with sarcasm and hatred, but what hurt him was the betrayal he felt when you made it clear that you cared about him.  “I already did. I told him I support neither of your ways. Just stop, someone’s gonna get hurt.“ “And it would be a shame if you got caught in the crossfire.” he spat out, the silence ringing in your ears as if his threat were a slap. “Goodnight, Thomas.” You replied, slamming the phone down, not even sure if he was still there to hear you but not willing to argue anymore. You didn’t stop walking around the halls, hoping that someone else would tell you more about what actually went down, still in the dark, but no one did.
That night you laid in bed, thinking over everything that had happened, or at least what you knew. The fairytale routine you had fallen in with Luca, the fancy restaurants, chivalrous words and tender kisses were taken away from you so soon after they started, leaving you desperate for what you had started growing so used to. Had it not been for the vendetta, he’d probably be here next to you right now, drawing circles on your shoulders with his fingertips, kissing you softly. But he wasn’t here, and all you knew was that he must’ve been alive somehow, since Tommy had no idea as to where he could’ve been.  Standing up you took a few steps towards the small balcony, desperate for some fresh air. There was barely enough space to stand on it so you leaned on the window frame, spotting someone moving away just as you glanced down towards the back street. Had you been in a less emotional state you’d have never chased after them, but right now all you wanted were answers.  You turned the corner, losing your balance as you slammed into someone, but their hands held you up, pulling you against them.  “You shouldn’t have come out here, principessa. You never know who might linger in the dark.” With your mouth agape you stood still for a moment, realising who was standing in front of you and finally wrapping your arms around him, colliding with his chest once more. He let out a low chuckle, melting into your embrace and holding you, feeling your heartbeat calm him down, a natural remedy that only you could provide. Your tears fell freely, wetting his coat while you shivered against him. “Well, lucky me then.” you joked, breathing in his scent, the notes of sandalwood surrounding you. “What happened?”  “Nothing. The police got in the way.” he shrugged lightly, his hands still around your waist, pulling you against him. “Thomas was looking for you. He called me.” he nodded, looking around the street for any signs of someone spying on them, but no one was around at this time, but he didn’t care either way. “I’m leaving for Camden Town. I won’t be back for a few days, so you won’t see me for a bit.” “And what are you going to do in Camden Town?” You asked, although you already knew the answer. He wouldn’t stop, and there was only one man in London that had a strong connection to Tommy, and not always a good one. You had never met Alfie Solomons, but you knew enough about him to know where this was going. “Not important. I came to get a goodbye kiss.” his eyes crinkled as he smiled, lifting your chin with his fingers and finding his mouth, kissing you with an initial softness, growing into a hunger that he couldn’t afford right now. He groaned, breaking the kiss, resting his forehead to yours. “What are you planning, Luca?”  “Goodnight, dear.”  “It’s not gonna end well.” “Goodnight, dear.” He repeated, kissing your forehead and lingering for a moment more, before urging you to walk back home, waiting until you were out of sight to slip away, walking towards the car that would take him to London.
You spent days waiting for something, but there was nothing. No calls, no letters, no news.  You picked a few books off your bookshelf, books you had never had the time to read, and scanned the pages, not managing to focus on more than a few pages. It was that dark feeling in your chest that you couldn’t ignore, and the lack of news only made it worse, feeding your mind with the most horrible scenarios.  It felt like a blessing, if only for a short moment, when a call arrived shortly after dinner. You were resting your head on the sofa, singing along to some old songs while you stared at your hands, the concept of time slowly slipping away, when you received the news, making you sit up in disbelief. Polly had been brief, delivering the news and nothing more, leaving you clutching your telephone and staring into thin air for what felt like hours. She hadn’t said anything more, leaving you with the feelings that surrounded you. Sadness, rage, hopelessness… everything was bubbling in your chest, a feeling of guilt coating everything, making you feel like you were somehow at fault here, like you hadn’t prevented this.  You paced around for most of the night, only pausing your wondering when the realisation hit you again, big tears slipping past your eyes as you recalled the memories of the times shared, stopping your incessant actions at the faint knock at the door early in the morning. “I saw your light on.” he looked behind you, his lips twitching up for a short moment, only to fall back into a stoic look when he met your gaze, clearly seeing the tears that you tried to wipe away before opening the door, your eyes red with sadness and rage. “Tell me you didn’t.”  It was a whisper, one that made his heart break. It wasn’t just your expression, nor the redness under your eyes, but your moving away from the door, as if you feared him.  “Alfie Solomons-” he started, willing to offer an explanation for his deeds. “I don’t care about Alfie! I asked you to stop this after the vendetta happened!” you shouted, getting closer just to throw punches at his chest, yet no matter your anger you were nothing but gentle, barely making him flinch.  “He didn’t stop either.”  “Because he’s stubborn. He’s-” “I am too. He killed my men. Just ‘cause you were closer to Arthur doesn’t mean that the death of my men means nothing.” “I don’t want to be part of this anymore.” you announced, slipping from his grasp and moving away, putting as much distance between the two of you as you could. “You never were a part of this.”  “Maybe not, but with how things are going I’m going to end up as collateral damage.” “You know I’d never let anything happen to you. Even if you stood by him, I wouldn’t-” You turned and walked up the stairs, ignoring his words and grabbing your traveling bag from the wardrobe as he made his way up, scoffing but following you into the bedroom nonetherless.  You picked your clothes and folded them quickly, placing them in the bag and throwing a couple other belongings in.  “What are you doing?” He asked, sitting on your bed and stopping your movements by holding your hips, his touch delicate, in harsh contrast with his look. He always felt so… different around you. Delicate, careful, loving. Little things, like the way he remembered what wine you liked, or some of your little quirks, or the softness of his touches when he was near you. After the night where you both fell into your bed, he’d become more open with showing his affection, but before that he never really shied away from it either. His hand gently cradling the small of your back when guiding you into a restaurant, or the brush of his fingers against your cheek when a stray hair got away from behind your ear. “I’m ending it tomorrow.” He announced, avoiding your gaze. “What?” You turned to face him, not fully understanding his plan of attack. “I called a meeting with Thomas.”  “To apologise?” “To make a deal.” He corrected you. “But it might not work. So…” He took one of his rings off, holding your hand and placing it in your palm, closing it around it. “To remember me by. Or not. Maybe it’s better to forget me, after all.” He brought your hand to your lips, as if to seal a deal, smiling. “I won’t have to remember you. You’re not going.” Your hand on his arm was supposed to stop him, or slow him down at least, but he just smiled at you as you would with a child that doesn’t fully understand the state the world is in.  “I have to finish what I started.” “Luca, don’t.” you tried to give it back, but he shook his head, moving away from you and down the stairs. “Arthur didn’t deserve it.”  “He’s the one that pulled the trigger.”  You didn’t speak, not knowing what to add. You knew he was referring to the death of his father, but what Arthur had done was almost out of mercy. Tommy wouldn’t have stopped, so he intervened. There were many mistakes he had made in his life, but dying because of an act of mercy wasn’t what he deserved.  “Ti amo, bedda mia.” And with a final look he left, not waiting for an answer, exhaling when the door closed behind him. He saw the way you looked at him, the tears that escaped your eyes, feeling betrayed by his actions, but he did what he had to do.  “Luca, we’re not finished talking.” Your words had no effect on the man, just like you knew they wouldn’t, but you couldn’t stop yourself from speaking them. It wasn’t only grief that was holding you back now, but fear. For a moment you saw the man just as he had been painted since the beginning: a gangster, a killer, nothing more but a heartless man. You fell back against the wall, clinging on to the ring he had gifted you, the only thing that felt certain right now. You watched as he stepped out, closing the door behind him ever so gently, to avoid making noise, and wondered what hid behind those eyes. How much could you risk for him?
He could feel you looking at him as he made his way out, knowing just how disappointed you were, but he wouldn’t back down. He knew what was going to go down tomorrow, what he’d say, how he'd move, and he’d do anything to have you by his side.
After all, all is fair in love and war.

Serve at First Sight (Kageyama Tobio x F!Reader)
"I bet I can..." Hinata mumbled and narrowed his eyes at him.
"Hah?" Kageyama glared back. "What did you just say?"
"I'm not good at setting. BUT I BET I CAN HIT THE LONGEST AND FASTEST SERVE!"
"IS THAT A CHALLENGE?"
"YOU WANNA GO NOW?"
"Uh... Kageyama, Hinata, Stop messing around or else you'll get an earful from Daichi-san." Yamaguchi tries to mediate the situation. The last time the idiotic duo did something stupid, all the first years had to run extra laps. And he was not up for that today.
"No use talking to idiots Yamaguchi." Tsukki sneered. "They have an IQ capacity of a teaspoon."
Hinata stood at the line of the court, deciding to go first. Throwing the ball into the air, he jumped as high as he could. As if he were a crow that leaped into the sky. His ball managed to land a good one meter away from line of the opposite side. A loud bang resonating the court and he beamed smugly at his tall opponent. Kageyama had a ball ready in hands as he took Hinata's place. Itching to outperformed the record set by the orange-head. Closing his eyes, he briefly replayed Oikawa's diabolical jump serve from their previous practice match. He knew he was a hundred years too early to be able to do that. Doesn't mean he won't try his luck though.
With a deep exhale, he took flight. Blocking out all sounds surrounding him, save that of his squeaking shoes and the volleyball as he slapped it forward. The stinging sensation felt on his hand causing him to grin. Not quite like Oikawa's, but still powerful. This is it, it will definitely plunge further than Hinata's. And it did. The ball flew pass that one meter mark. And hit a person. Kageyama's eyes blinked twice before the situation finally seeped through his thick skull. He had hit someone's head! Suddenly he could hear his surroundings again. Hinata panicked scream. Yamaguchi running towards the unfortunate human being who fell to the ground. Tsukki trying not to laugh at this slapstick comedy.
Kageyama sprinted towards the person. A hundred thoughts running through his mind. Is the person alright? Is he going to get in trouble with Daichi for this? Where are the third years anyway? Most importantly, when was that person there? How is it he did not notice them? What were they doing there in the first place? Surely no one would actually collapsed from that hit, right? He stood behind Yamaguchi who was trying to communicate with the seemingly unconscious person. And that was when Kageyama noticed, the person was a girl. A petite girl. He kneeled beside Yamaguchi. She seemed to be a little pale.
"Hello?" Yamaguchi tapping her shoulder. "Excuse me, can you hear me?"
No reply.
"KAGEYAMA KILLED SOMEONE!" Hinata hollered.
"What are you going to do now Kageyama?" Despite knowing that she only passed out, Tsukki decided to humour Hinata.
"I'll take her to the nurse's office." Immediately he carried her and jogged out of the court. Hoping not to run into anyone. Especially Daichi.
He couldn't help but glance at her face every three seconds. Wondering if she will wake up midway. But she didn't and that worried him more. If it weren't for her soft faint breaths he would have thought that he actually committed manslaughter with his jump serve. Besides, she has such a small frame. He was afraid if he really did break her. Kageyama held her closer to his body. Noticing how she fit snugly in his arms. And when looked closely, she's actually really cute. A blush spread quickly all over his face. What was he thinking? He doesn't even know her.
~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/n) blinked slowly. Feeling slightly dazed.
She woke up late today, all because of that stupid extra Japanese literature homework that had to be submitted during first period. And because she woke up late, she skipped breakfast. She wanted to get something during lunch, but had to drop by the school library to return some books that were due today. Well what do you know, apparently everyone needed to return their books today. If she had known she would've asked her friends to at least get her melon bread. She had about 10 minutes left before lunch ended, but she ran into her senior and was reminded to submit the club activities report today.
It was so hard to focus on classes for the rest of the afternoon. She drank lots of water in hopes to delay the impending dizziness. It was somewhat working. She only needed to wait until clubs and activities time. She'll get a sugary drink from the vending machine, then tell the club leader that she's going to head home early. But karma really had to be a bitch today. Her wallet was not in her bag. (Y/n) dreaded the fact that she might have dropped it somewhere. Searching for her wallet with this now nasty migraine is really going to be such a pain. That is until she suddenly remembered she left it in her drawer at home. She had forgotten about it amidst the rush.
(Y/n) crouched in front of the vending machine. What are the gods playing at exactly. Is it really so hard to get a single bite? Is this karma for denying Mr. Snuggles his treat last week? Well it was not her fault that he knocked over her pudding off the table! She was on the verge of tears when she heard the sound of volleyballs. Oh right, the vending machine was sort of close to the volleyball court... Didn't Yachi say she was recently the co-manager for Karasuno's volleyball club along with that beautiful senior Kiyoko. There is hope. She only needed a little money to get that small carton of drink.
She stood up quickly and regretted it. God, this migraine is killing her. With every ounce of determination she had left, she dragged her feet towards the court. Swaying a little every now and then. The sounds were getting louder, The ball hitting the court, shoes squeaking and people yelling? This is a good thing, it meant that she was getting closer. This is also a bad thing, because it's splitting her skull. Everything around her blurred as she entered the hall. Shit, where is Yachi? She took a few more steps before she felt a hard impact on her head. Dear lord that hurts like hell. And she lost all control of her body before everything went black.
"Oi." a gruff voice distracted her thoughts.
She sat up immediately. Hitting her head on the bed post in the process. She has realized by now that she must have passed out and someone from the volleyball club took her to the nurses office. It must have been this boy sitting beside her. But that still didn't mean she wouldn't be caught off guard. She has always been somewhat intimidated by the male species. Especially those tall towering ones that had to bend a little to talk to her. It's one of the unfortunate things one has to endure being 4'10 and having a small frame. People often joked that she could fit in a suitcase. Though seeing her other shorter friends did brought her pleasure, it still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people around her were giants.
"Idiot."
"Excuse me?" she glared. What's the big idea calling her an idiot out of nowhere. He was the one who surprised her. Sitting on a stool at her bedside, ain't that too close for a stranger, sir?  Who is he again? The volleyball club is pretty popular here in Karasuno after they managed to get into the finals of Inter high recently. It was unfortunate that they lost to Aoba Johsai, but everyone acknowledged what a monster the school was. Yachi said everyone felt down but it didn't dampened their spirit, for their next chance will be the Spring Tournament.
"S-sorry." the guy replied.
Dark eyes darting away from her face. She could make out an intimidating look on his face. Eyebrows furrowing sternly. Lips set on a grim line. Yet his cheeks flushed. Or was it because of the orange hue from the setting sun (she couldn't really tell), which also made his black hair glow. It dawned upon (y/n) that if he could just smooth away his frown, he would be handsome (she thinks). And if only he weren't being gruffy. Wait a minute. Tall volleyball player, black hair, intimidating frowning face but yet somehow still good looking?
"I'm Kageyama Tobio-"
"I know."
Silence... Well that was awkward.
She cleared her throat. "I'm (L/n) (Y/n). From Class 5. Um, Yachi's friend."
"Oh." Shoot. He didn't know she was Yachi's friend. What will the manager say about this. "I'm sorry. That my jump serve knocked you out."
"No no no! I was actually a little hypoglycemic. So your uh, jump serve was just the final nail in the coffin." Damn, she knew that getting hit by any ball was going to hurt. But the ball just now, it felt like it could tear her head off. Or maybe that's just an exaggeration of being starved the whole day. She realized his expression went from frowning to horrifying. "N-not that it will literally be the final nail to my coffin! It was just an expression. Maybe not a good one. Sorry I'm just bad with words when it comes to strangers. I mean not that you're an absolute stranger. It's just that- I'm sorry, I'm blabbering too much."
"Not at all!" he yelled. Ah, he got too animated. He didn't understand why. But he just thought everything about this girl is cute. From her petite stature that makes him want to shield her from the wind. To her way of talking that showed just how shy and awkward she was as how it is with him. Trying to reassure him that it was fine. He couldn't understand this sudden grip in his heart and the tingling sensation at his fingertips. Though maybe it was because he hasn't touch the volleyball for a few hours now.
Another awkward silence ensues.
"Anyways," (Y/n) was still a bit shy. She was after all talking to one of the most popular boys at school. But seeing as how he is now, she thought she could loosen up her guard a bit. "Have you seen my glasses?"
"You wear glasses?"
They rushed back together to the volleyball court. Yachi attacked her with a hug as she lamented about the news she heard from her fellow peers. Daichi scolding him to be careful next time whilst Tanaka giving him his infamous gangster glare. Hinata coming forward with his head down as he presented (Y/n)'s broken glasses. He accidently stepped on them when he was panicking, though he only realised it when she was sent to the nurse's office. Her glasses must have fallen off her head when she got hit. That hard huh. Really God, you want to test her that much today. Fine, she'll apologize to Mr. Snuggles when she gets home.
Unbeknownst to her, Kageyama felt even worse than earlier. His ball caused her to knocked out, and now it even knocked off the glasses from her head and broke it. Stuttering on his words, he apologized again. Hands balled into a tight fist. He just felt so bad. Suga noticed how dejected he sounded. But he also noticed how pink his ears were. Oh? Well even if it wasn't what he thought, there was no harm in... light teasing. Besides, they'd looked adorable together, no?
"If you really feel guilty. Then you should walk her home today." slinging his arm over Kageyama's shoulder, Suga tried to keep a neutral expression. Well there was a slight smirk, but he tried. "What if she falls down on her way home? Or run into a pole?"
"I am short-sighted Sugawara-senpai. Not blind." (Y/n) said through gritted teeth. Really these eyesight jokes should be old by now. "Besides, I will need to stop by the optic shop to have new ones made."
"All the more for him to accompany you. It will get dark soon. Might be dangerous to be walking alone with such bad eyesight."
"Oh no, I wouldn't want to burden-"
"Let's go." Kageyama interrupted. And when she declined again, he argued back. "Stop being a stubborn idiot. You still haven't eaten, you can't see well and you're so light that people can just easily carry you away."
Did he just called her an idiot for the second time in the short the period they have known each other. How rude! Not that his points were invalid. He was right. But boy does this person lack delicacy. In the end, she agreed to let him accompany her. He bought two cartons of milk from the vending machine. One for each of them, and they set off on their merry way.
~~~~~~~~~~
"No- Okay. Once again. Osmosis only works with solvents. Simple diffusion, both solvents and solutes. So in osmosis, solvents will move from low solute concentration-" (Y/n) stopped explaining when she noticed how Kageyama's brows were almost touching. His lips formed a small pout. "You know what, we have been revising for more than an hour. Let's take 5. Then continue for another hour. It's getting late and although my mum likes you, my dad wouldn't like you being in my room for too long."
Ever since that day where he sent her home, she began hanging out more with Yachi and the volleyball club. Not that she never hung out with her close friend, it's just that (y/n) felt out of place when she mingles with unfamiliar crowds. But now that every member knew her as the girl who got hit by Kageyama's jump serve, that became the basis of her acquaintanceship with the club and she got to hang out with Yachi more. And before she realized it, Kageyama has just been around her circle. Always there. Heck he has been walking her home more often now that even her mother likes him. Then they became just friends. Or she hoped it stayed that way, because she noticed her emotions began crossing unknown territories.
(Y/n) has come to learn a few things about Kageyama Tobio over the course of their friendship. One, he is an obsessed volleyball freak. A prodigy people say. But what (Y/n) sees is a person consumed by passion for the things he loves. And that isn't necessarily bad. Two, he can be quite childish. He fails to control his frustration which later comes off the wrong way whenever he expresses them. But really he means no harm, because when he is happy, he expresses them genuinely. And three, he is quite sensitive. He may want to show that he didn't care, but he actually takes things to heart. He may feel down about a comment, but he will learn to improve from it.
"Sorry."
"What for?"
"For having to teach an idiot like me."
"Oh stop it. Everyone is good and bad at something. We can't all be the perfect prodigy. That's just how things are. You may be bad at studying, but with your volleyball skills I bet you can represent Japan one day." noticing his eyes lit up, she continued. "So in order for you to attend your camp. Let's just try our best okay?"
Kageyama nodded. It was a little embarrassing to have her comforting him like this. But at the same time it brings him immense joy. When he first met her, he would get flutters looking at her cute appearance. Now, he just feels all warm and fuzzy whenever she talks to him. He liked that she didn't judge him or anyone she's ever met. She would scold him sometimes, but at the same time explained her reasoning. And he really appreciated that, how patient she was with him. It does make him guilty, but at the same time he wants to start behaving better. Is this what Suga meant when he said he has a crush on (Y/n)? Kageyama doesn't really know. He will need time to analyze everything.
"(L/n), do you have time during our Spring Tournament?" he tried looking anywhere else but her face.
"You want me to cheer on the club? Sure thing."
"Yes." Hearing her reply made him smile. With a steady gaze he stared straight into her eyes. "Watch me play, (y/n). I'll show you a really strong serve."
(Y/n) could only smile back as she felt butterflies in her stomach. "Then we better get back to studying."

Daydreams and Tickles ~ Ruby Martinez

Word count: 3.3k

A/N: Hiya, it’s been a while, we are going to try to post at least a monthly one shot, but won’t make any promises. Hope you all that read this enjoy this!
Tumblr media
You were awoken by the sound of notifications going off loudly. You stirred around on your bed, trying to ignore the cacophony of dings your phone kept emitting. Groggily, you made a mental note to silence your phone from now on. When you could finally look at the screen without it blinding you, you scrolled through the seemingly endless string of texts Ruby had sent to the group chat, “The Gnomies”. Yes, Jamal came up with it. Yes, everyone tried to change it, but he just kept changing it back so they gave up. You groaned as you read the messages. ‘Be here at one on the dot,’ the last message read, ‘mandatory meeting’. That was less than half an hour from now. Lazily getting out of bed, you started getting ready. After brushing your teeth and making your hair look somewhat presentable, you threw together an outfit that resembled a picture you had seen on Pinterest after looking up ‘grunge aesthetic’. You liked trying out different styles constantly, feeling like every single one of them suited you, but none of them could get you to commit to them for more than a month. Satisfied with the way you looked, you left your room, grabbed your keys and skateboard, and started to skate your way to Ruby’s house. Midway, though, you decided to take a detour and get some food—junk food, to be precise—knowing that you would not be able to handle a hyperactive Ruben on an empty stomach.
You left the joint with two bags full of food, hoping bribery would get you out of being lectured by Ruby about punctuality. You balanced the bags on both hands like a scale as you focused on not falling from your board on the way there. Making the last turn to Ruby’s house, you miscalculated the speed you were going at and had to hop off the board, letting it crash against the curb. Though you fell on your ass, you made sure to hold the food up keeping it safe and sound. Holding both bags in one hand, you retrieved your skateboard and walked up to the door, but it flung open before you could even think about knocking. Ruby stood on the other side with a scowl. You smiled sheepishly, extending one of the bags to him.
“You’re very late! Did you get me fries with that? Also where are the others?!" Ruby said all in one breath.
"First of all, I know I'm late, but I'm sorry to inform you that you are not more important than food.” Ruby scowled and was about to protest, but you kept speaking before he could utter a word. “Secondly, yes, I did get you fries, you impatient goblin. I mean, what do you take me for? A monster?” You pretended to be offended, but Ruby simply looked annoyed by the dramatic display. “Just know that when I win my first Oscar I will not be thanking you, Ruben.”
“Yeah, yeah if you say so—also don’t call me that. Can you get to the most important question now?”
“Damn, someone hasn’t had their daily handy.” You laughed in astonishment, amused by how much irritation Ruby had in him.
“Seriously, Y/N, this is serious!” His voice raised an octave, causing it to crack, and you had to bite back a laugh.
“A la jaula, bestia, a la jaula,” you began, laughter causing your words to come out like wheezes. Ruby spared you one death stare, and you somehow found your composure. “Look, I have no idea where everyone else is. I, honestly, thought everyone was already here and that you were waiting on me.”
“So, you thought they were here and didn’t think to bring them food?” Ruby questioned.
“Do I look like I have enough money to feed todos esos trogloditas? I brought you food with hopes of getting out of the ‘Punctuality Lecture’, but seeing as they aren’t here, guess that spares me.” You dropped the skate on the entryway, pushing past Ruby to sit on the couch.
“And here I was beginning to think you favored me from the rest.” Ruby sighed with disappointment before raising his voice dramatically. “When in reality, it was just BRIBERY!” he exclaimed, his voice cracking once more as he fake sobbed while clutching the food. You clapped as you opened your food, ready to dig in.
“Damn, man, I better watch out, otherwise you’re probably going to win that Oscar before me,” you said as you began stuffing your face.
“Are you calling me dramatic?” He placed his free hand over his heart.
“Oh, without a shadow of a doubt, now sit down and eat.” With your fork, you pointed at him then towards the couch. Instead of sitting, he started pacing around the coffee table, and you watched him as you munched on your sandwich and fries. He stopped for a second to place his bag of food down, yet he didn’t sit down to eat it. He kept going around the small table at a pace too quick for your eyes to keep up without feeling dizzy. “Wow, man, slow down. Me mareas con tus vueltitas.” He only huffed. “Ruben, seriously, I did not buy that for you to let it go to waste. At least breathe and stress eat.” He whipped around at the mention of his full name.
“I thought I told you not to call me that,” he reminded you exasperatedly. “Anyway, I can’t eat right now. I have many thoughts whirring in my brain, and it’s making me sick. Do you know why I called you guys here? Well, if you’re here, you must have read the messages—” Ruby was rambling on and didn’t even stop in between sentences to take a breath so you cut him off.
“RUBEN!” He ceased all movement so abruptly that a skid mark could’ve possibly been seen in the spot where he stopped. “Could you get to the point,, please? You’re making my head hurt.” You completely ignored his previous statement and pressed the tips of your fingers to your temples. Rolling his eyes at you he sat on the other end of the couch and took his food out. After a few angry munches, he turned to face you, the grease of the food that was plastered on his mouth drawing your attention to his lips.
“Alright, since the others aren’t here yet, I’ll just start telling you my new ideas for income.” He stopped eating and started chattering and chattering and chattering…
You don’t know when it happened, but at some point, he stood up and began pacing around the living room again. You stopped listening about half an hour into his ramble, zoning out and staring blankly at him. Your mind got the best of you, and you started to remember why you liked Ruby. What brought this on? You didn’t know. Maybe it was how much passion he put into his pointless arguments, or maybe even that you found it totally adorable that he was practically unable to lie because he would start sweating like a pig on a stick. Maybe it was the way he smiled at you, the tendency he had to correct everything you said matter-of-factly, or maybe it was his dangerously absurd perfectionism. It could be one of his many qualities, good or bad, you didn’t care. Your eyes trailed to his lips once more. They were so full and pink it was hard not to stare—slightly chapped too, but that wasn’t a problem to you. You imagined running your thumb over them, pulling them close to yours and then just crashing them together. Your breath hitched in your throat at the thought of you and Ruby making out. It wasn’t an uncommon thought of yours, seeing as you’ve been dreaming about it happening almost every night since you discovered what hormones could do.
There was always Cesar, you thought. He was the “face” of the group after all, but that got to his brain sometimes. Nothing more dangerous than a cholo who’s aware of his good looks. You grimaced slightly. Cesar’s ego was one of the many reasons why you never developed an emotional nor carnal liking to the boy. You’d rather leave him to Monse, plus you wouldn’t dream of getting caught in the middle of their toxic and manipulative games. But that’s beside the point. You were abruptly brought back to reality by Ruby waving his hands in front of your face, occasionally snapping his fingers. Shaking your head to shake out the thoughts, you noticed Ruby was now standing on top of the coffee table, being careful not to step on either of your foods.
“PAY ATTENTION TO ME, (Y/N)!” Ruby whined. You held back a chuckle at how funny he looked. His small body barely added to the coffee table’s weight. Deciding to play it cool, you shrugged nonchalantly.
“What’s your fuzz? I am listening to you. Have been for the past hour and a half.”
Ruby squinted his eyes at you. “No, you weren’t. I know that face. You were very deep in your thoughts. What’s going on in that pretty, little head of yours?” You freaked internally.
He’s onto us, you told yourself. “Yes, I am onto you, (Y/N), that’s why I asked. Keep up.” He looked at you like you were stupid. Wait how did he—Can he read my mind?  Blink twice if you can read my mind. Ruby blinked twice, and you felt like a rock dropped in your stomach.
“Oh shit,” you whispered under your breath.
“Before you throw up on my couch, I’ll have you know I can’t read your mind. You were just speaking out loud.” You threw yourself backwards unto the couch, grabbing a pillow to cover your face. After making a mental note to slam your head against the nearest wall later, you decided you were not going to make a further fool of yourself.
“I wasn’t not paying attention; I was just—”
“I am the king of bad excuses, babe, so spare me your lies.” You blushed at the nickname and prayed he wouldn’t notice. “Now since there is obviously something more important on your mind, speak,” he demanded.
You weighed your options. You could either try to lie and hope he’d let you off the hook, which was not likely, or you could tell him the truth and risk your friendship being awkward from now on if he didn’t feel the same way—and with your luck he most likely didn’t. A few more silent seconds passed before Ruby spoke once more, “Don’t make me take drastic measures on you, (Y/N). I will have no mercy.” He eyed you with determination. You scoffed in disbelief.
“What could you possibly do to torture me, Ruben?” You mocked him, stretching out his name. Ruby smirked.
“Oh, you’ve done it now.” He jumped from the coffee table, landing on top of you and successfully pinning you to the sofa. You giggled and tried to get away from his grip, but it was surprisingly strong. Ruby chuckled at your failed attempts to break free. “Now, you’re going to tell me what I want to know, or else,” he brought his lips close to your ears, “you’ll pay for it with your melodious laughter.” Your eyes widened in realization as his words sank in.
“No, not the tickles,” you begged him playfully. He nodded while mischievously smirking.
“One last chance, are you gonna talk?” You shook your head.
“In your dreams,” you defied.
“I was hoping you’d say that.” In seconds, his hands went to your sides and laughter erupted from your throat in loud cackles.
“Stop, Ruby—Stop!” you tried to articulate between laughs. He shook his head no.
“Not until I get what I want.” He said between laughs as well, since in retaliation, you had managed to start tickling him as well. The sound of his own laughter mixed with yours was like music to your ears.
“N—Never!” You still mutinied. His fingers only increased their pace and not in ways you’d like. Your stomach was starting to hurt and you were running out of breath, leaving you with just one option. Well, it was now or never.
“I WAS THINKING ABOUT KISSING YOU,” you blurted; his movements ceased, “I have been since we were in middle school.” You closed your eyes, concentrating on catching your breath. Ruby released you and got off of you, running his hands through his hair in deep thought. You sat up and covered your face with your hands. “This is going to be so awkward now,” you muttered through your hands but it came out like an incoherent jumble of sounds. You moved your hands to sneak a peek at Ruby. Your muffled words didn’t even faze him.
“Ruby?” You looked over at him. His eyes met yours, and he struggled to bite back a laugh. Great, you thought, he thinks I’m a joke now.
“About time.” He grumbled and sighed.
“What?” You were very confused. What could he possibly mean by that?
 “I said ‘about damn time,’ (Y/N).” His suppressed laughs turned to a shy grin. Still confused as ever, you tried your best to gather your thoughts and form a coherent sentence.
“Wait, YOU KNEW?” You felt sick to your stomach now. All this time, you thought you had been successful at keeping your feelings hidden and sealed away, but now it turns out even he knew.
“Well, yeah, I’ve known for a couple of months now.” He shrugged it off as if it were obvious.
“Months?!” This was unbelievable. You abruptly stood up and faced him, hands on your hips. “So, you’ve known for months and you didn’t think for one second to tell me? At least, have the decency to confront me, damn it.” You found yourself feeling dumbfounded, feeling toyed with. Ruby reached out to you, holding on to your forearm and pulling you back to sit on the couch. You let him.
“Cesar and Jamal implied it once during one of our guy’s nights, and ever since then, I kind of started paying more attention. Ergo, leading me to the conclusion that you liked me,” he explained. “If it makes you feel any better, the clues to your feelings were very subtle so, I would have probably never noticed if it hadn’t been brought up.” Ruby was trying his best to cheer you up, but you still felt extremely embarrassed by the fact that your secret crush wasn’t so secret.
“Why would they even bring that up, in the first place?” you questioned, annoyed.
“Well, I may or may not have made a comment about how I thought I was starting to develop feelings for you and the guys just jumped on that and told me that you liked me too,” Ruby admitted shyly, rubbing his neck awkwardly.
“So, if you like me back, then why didn’t you say anything or make a move when you figured out I actually felt the same way?” You felt bad for interrogating him like that, but you were in dire need of answers.
“I just didn’t know how to bring it up, and even if I did, I wouldn’t have known how to say I liked you back without, probably, choking on my own saliva.” He chuckled lowly, afraid that if he laughed too loud, he’d set you off again. “You know I’ve never been good with the ladies, (Y/N).” You grimaced at the memory of all of Ruby’s failed love attempts.
“Well, you already knew I liked you—it was a matter of saying three words, eight letters,, and I would’ve been yours months ago.” You pushed his shoulder playfully, the anxiety and embarrassment you had felt washing of and making room for the still-settling realization of having confessed your feelings. Ruby leaned back into you, your legs brushing, causing you to take notice of your proximity. Your hands fell upon each other’s, and you looked up to meet his eyes. You started leaning in, maintaining eye contact as you got closer.
“Ruby,” you started, but he shook his head.
“Don’t think, act,” he said as he grabbed the back of your neck, crashing your lips together. All your late night fantasies crashed at once, the real thing surpassing each and every one of them. Kissing Ruby felt like a kaleidoscope of butterflies got loose in your stomach—it felt like your heart alone was running a marathon. Kissing Ruby was soft and messy, your lack of experience shining through-. Ruby kept pressing himself to you, making sure there was absolutely no space between you. You had to resort to lying down, pulling Ruby on top of you, not once breaking the kiss. Due to the new position, one of his hands made its way to rest on your waist and the other cupped your cheek. Your hands around his neck were pulling him impossibly closer, and in that moment, your body felt like it was exploding with fireworks, warm all over. You didn’t break away until you needed to  breathe, a goofy smile plastering itself on your face. Ruby held the same expression as you as he looked down at you. As you started leaning in for another kiss, the door burst open. You pushed Ruby off of you, causing Ruby to fall on the ground with a thud.
“Uh, what’s going on here?” Jamal asked.
“Told you guys it would work.” Cesar had the biggest, cockiest smirk on his face. You and Ruby shared a confused look and stared back at the very late rest of the crew.
“Yep, just like you said. A couple of hours alone, and they were all over each other.” Monse said, trying her best to refrain from laughing.
“I think our little man, Ruby, just popped his cherry.” Cesar wiggled his eyebrows. Monse’s eyes widened and she broke down laughing.
Irritated enough, you finally spoke up, “Slow your roll, Little Spooky, we’re not like you and Monse.” You shot at him defensively, and Monse choked on her laughter. “No offense,” you added, not wanting to stir up any drama.
“None taken,” Cesar assured. Ruby got off the ground and reclaimed his seat beside you.
Leaning over, he whispered, “Why can’t we be like them?”
“Keep it in your damn pants, Ruben.” You nudged his side and he raised his hands in surrender.
In retaliation, though, Cesar sat between you and Ruby. You shared a look of annoyance before Cesar asked, “Are you going to finish that?” referring to the forgotten leftover cluttering the small table.
“Go crazy.”
“Suit yourself,” you and Ruby at the same time.
As Cesar dug in Jamal spoke up, “Can we just skip to the part where Ruby yells at us for being late and starts talking non-stop?”
“No, man, not today.” Everyone looked bewildered. “Cesar why don’t you take that home? Yes, okay, bye,” Ruby dismissed him.
“Wait, woah, the hell man?” Cesar questioned as Ruby used all his might to get him off the couch.
“You can all come back tomorrow, on time, and we’ll talk about my idea.” He said shooing them all away.
“Are you freaking serious?” Monse got angry quickly.
“Hey, not my fault you decided to play cupid and be late on purpose.” Cesar, Jamal, and Monse shared looks of pride at Ruby’s statement. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some wasted time to make up for with my new girlfriend so, bye!”
“Whatever you say, man,” Cesar said as he opened the door with one hand, the leftovers in the other. When Jamal and Monse were outside he said, “Just remember sin gorrito no hay fiesta.” He immediately shut the door after himself, but that didn’t stop Ruby and you from yelling after him.
“Fuck off, Cesar!” You both yelled with smiles on your faces as you looked at each other. With everyone else gone, Ruby cupped your cheek once more and tenderly kissed you until you had to head back home. That night you slept peacefully, no longer having to dream and wonder about how kissing Ruby would feel like.

Devil in disguise... Part 4/?
Lee Bodecker x reader
Tumblr media
<Part 3<
Warnings: swearing, mentions of masterbation (m)
Your grandpa wasn't a vilant man. He never laid a hand on your grandmother or your mother. Your grandpa vowed to protect you, his little grand baby, until the day he dies. So when Lee told him about what happened at the diner with Bobby-Ray, your grandpa wanted to beat the little punk black and blue. Thankfully Lee was able to convince him not to do anything that might land himself in jail.
"Just a second!" You called out to whoever was knocking on the front door and pulled the freshly baked cookies out of the oven. "Coming!" You called out as they knocked again.
You quickly walked to the front door, wiping your hands on your apron before pulling the door open.
"Oh, Sheriff, I wasn't expecting to see you this morning?" You smiled sweetly at him.
Lee smiled back, "Just wanted to check in, after yesterday."
You nodded. "Oh, okay... Would you like to come in? I just made some cookies."
Lee's smile grew. "That would be mighty kind of you, Sugar."
You stepped aside and let the Sheriff in. "Grandpa isn't here, I'm afraid. He's at church. So you're stuck with just me." You joked.
"You know that don't bother me, Sugar." He winked at you with a smile making you blush.
"Coffee?"
"Thank you," Lee nodded and popped his hat on the chair beside him as he sat at the kitchen table.
Lee watched in silence as you moved around the kitchen, smiling to himself as he caught the faint humming coming from your mouth. You were the perfect vision of what he thought his wife would look one day. And he was fool.
"How ya' feelin'?" Lee asked looking up after you placed his coffee in front of him.
You hummed, and turned back to face the counter. "Grateful for you." You smiled over your shoulder at him, catching the light blush as he looked down.
Lee cleared his throat, "How are you though, Y/N?"
"... A little shaken, I guess, hence why I ain't at church. Plus, I knew Bobby-Ray and his mother would be there so," You shook your head and focused on the cookies.
It was a new recipe that you tried so you were excited for someone to try them.
"Would you like to try a cookie? It's a new recipe." You smiled at the Sheriff as you placed the plate of cookies before him.
Lee licked his lips, "You know I can't say no to your cookies." He smirked as he picked one and looked up at you. "What's new about them?" He asked.
"Chocolate." You smiled and sat down beside him.
Lee frowned in confusion. "I've tried your chocolate chip cookies before, Sugar."
You shook your head with a grin, "Just try, and you'll see."
"You ain't poisoning me, are ya?" He joked making you roll your eyes playfully at him. He chuckled before he lifted the cookie to his mouth and took a decent bite out of it. "... Hmm-mm." Lee groaned from deep in his chest.
You squeezed your thighs together at the sound of pleasure the Sheriff made. That was unexpected.
"Damn, Sugar," Lee stared at the melted chocolate in the middle of his cookie. "These might be the best I've ever tasted."
You cleared your throat and stood up, turning back to the counter. "Oh, I'm glad." You gulped, trying to calm your nerves.
Lee licked his lips as he watched you, smiling to himself. "What ya' got planned for the rest of the day?"
"Nothin'. I got all my chores done this mornin', bein' up before the sun." You sighed. "Grandpa'll be out all day, drinkin' I reckon. So, might have an early night, maybe pamper myself with a long soak in the tub." You giggled and turned back to face Lee.
Lee stared into nothing, thinking about what you'd just said. "... Sounds, interesting." He cleared his throat and picked up another cookie.
"Are you working patrols all day? I could pack you some cookies up. Or maybe some lunch. A thank you for last night." You smiled and went over to the refrigerator. You bent over, almost directly in front of Lee as you looked inside.
"Dear... Lord," Lee said under his breath before he cleared his throat. "Uh, no, I'm in the station today." He sighed, "There's quite a bit of paperwork to catch up on that I ain't looking forward to." He looked up just as you turned to face him with things to make a sandwich. "Plus, the damn receptionist ain't in either so, I've got extra stress with that." He huffed.
"You know I'm always free to help out if you need it, Sheriff." You smiled at him before going over to the counter to make him a sandwich.
Lee thought to himself for a minute. The thought of spending all day with you was worrying. He wasn't sure he'd be able to focus, but it would be a big help to have you there. "If you don't mind, Sugar."
You turned around to face him with an excited look in your eyes. "Really? Wouldn't I get in the way?"
"Nah," Lee smiled, "You'll be doing me a favour and keeping me company."
You nodded. "Okay. Sure. That sounds fun."
"Okay." Lee quickly stood up, grabbing his hat from the chair beside him. "You make up two sandwiches, and I'll make sure the cruiser is clean for your pretty dress."
Your brow pinched together as you looked down to your dress in confusion.
Tumblr media
"It was last night. What could have gotten it so dirty since then?" You joked.
Lee shook his head. "Nothing... I swear. I just... would, hate for you to get some, dirt or anything, on-" He didn't finish his sentence before running out of the house. He had to get rid of that damn Pepsi cup before you got in.
It wasn't his fault, if anything it was yours. You looked so pretty last night, then you needed to be saved and looked after by him. Plus, you cried and tucked yourself close to him, under his arm as he drove you home. He was fucking hard after he dropped you off. He had to do something to get rid of it, and the cup was just sitting there as he thought about you. Your scent still lingering in the air.
"Fuck," Lee grunted feeling his dick twitching in his pants as he thought back.
Lee had to sit in the driver's seat with his hands on the steering wheel, his knuckles going white as he closed his eyes, trying to keep his breathing even and his dick soft.
"All clean, Sheriff?" You asked with a cheerful smile as you approached the cruiser.
Lee gulped, nodding his head as he got out of the cruiser. "All clean." He forced a smile as he walked around to the passengers side and opened the door for you. "You bring any cookies?" He asked in a playful tone, making you giggle.
"Of course I did, Sheriff."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lee had every intention on setting you up at the desk in reception when the two of you arrived at the station, but then the dumb young deputies opened their mouths and made some sexual comment about you in front of him, so he steered you towards his office instead, sending the deputies a glare over his shoulder. His desk was big enough to share. It just meant he definitely wouldn't be able to focus on anything today.
"I've finished with these, Sheriff. Is there somewhere they need to go?" You asked as you held up the last envelope you'd just finished writing an address on.
Lee nodded, "There's a box out front, they'll get posted tonight."
"Okay," You smiled and pushed your chair back. "I'll got do that so they don't get lost."
"Thank you, Sugar." Lee smiled softly at you before you opened the door.
He let out a heavy sigh and sat back in his chair finally able to breath as you left his office. He'd been reading the same sentence for the last half hour after you had bent down to pick something up off the floor that he had dropped. He saw right down the top of your dress, instantly making him hard and pull himself further under his desk so you didn't see.
"So, you the Sheriff's new personal secretary, darlin'?" He heard one of his deputies ask through the open door.
Lee listened carefully with a frown. He heard you sigh before you answered. "I'm just lending a hand, that's all."
"I bet. Left or right?" Another asked, cracking up along with the other deputy.
Lee quickly stood up and pushed his chair back. He marched over to the door and opened it so it didn't make a noise, wanting to scare the deputies when he yelled at them for slacking off.
"Sometimes, I don't even use my hands." You answered back.
When Lee stepped out he saw the two deputies were speechless as you said goodbye and headed back to Lee's office.
He smirked down at you as you slipped passed him before he turned his attention back to his deputies. "Back to work!" He ordered before slamming his office door shut. "Everythin' okay, Sugar?"
You nodded, "Yes, Sheriff." You grinned. "Everythin' is good."
"Good." Lee nodded, looking away from you. "Hmm, if you could do these for me, Sugar, that would be great." He smiled, lifting up a stack of papers off his desk.
You nodded, quickly skipping over to him. "Of course, Sheriff." You smiled sweetly at him and took them from him, your fingers lightly grazing his, making you blush slightly.
It took everything in you not to look up and stare at him, to admire his handsome face as the room fell silent. Being so close to Lee for so long was nerve wrecking. He always smelt so good, and his smile always made your heart skip and when he smirked, your knees almost buckled. And when he spoke, it sent shivers down your spine. Sometimes it was smooth and soft, other times it was rough and deep. And when he yelled (not that it was often around you), but when he did, it made you dizzy with excitement.
The hours quickly ticked by and before you knew it, Lee had pulled up outside your home. The lights were on and your grandpa's old truck was parked in its usual spot indicating he had gotten home just fine.
"Thank you for today, Sheriff." You smiled at him.
Lee chuckled, "It should be me thankin' you, Sugar. You really helped me out." He spoke softly with a smile.
You blushed looking down to your lap. "It was nothin'." You shrugged it off.
Lee shook his head. "No, it was. You didn't need to help out like you did." He smiled, running his knuckles across your cheek. "But you did, because your sweet, and kind."
You blushed with a small smile.  "... Oh, well, thank you." You let out a nervous giggle. "I best get inside. Grandpa'll be getting' worried if I'm out any longer." You smiled bashfully.
Lee nodded. "Okay then, Sugar, you go on in."
"Good night, Sheriff." You pushed yourself closer to him and pressed a kiss to his cheek. Your eyes widened a little when you realised what you'd done. You pulled back and met his stunned gaze. "I, hmm-"
The radio crackling to life interrupted the moment and gave you chance to bid Lee goodbye again before quickly sliding out of the cruiser.
What had you done? Why would you go and do something stupid like that? He probably thought you were just some stupid kid with a silly little crush on him. You had no doubt he was probably used to young girls fawning over him, and falling in love with him. But that didn't mean you hadn't just made a fool of yourself.
Through Fire and Ice Chapter 2
(Technoblade x Reader)
Chapter 2
< Prev Chapter | Next Chapter >
Note: I’m slowly but surely posting these here, but there are a few more chapters posted on AO3.
~~~~~~
Phil stood at the head of a long dining room table in the middle of his house, Tommy, Tubbo, Fundy and Ranboo stood to the right of the table while Wilbur, Dream, Sapnap, and George stood across from them on the other side. Phil eyed them all, before clearing his throat.
 “Techno still hasn’t come back,” Phil spoke grimly, “Whether or not there is an end to the storm, I’m going out there for him, if he’s not back by tomorrow.” Silence hung in the air. Ranboo gripped on to the chair in front of him. He had taken a liking to Techno. At times Phil could understand why, they were so similar in so many aspects.
 “I’ll go with you,” Ranboo spoke up with a waver in his voice. Phil gave him a soft smile and shook his head. Ranboos green and red eyes flicked up to Phils for a split second questioning him, before he hastily looked away. Phil heard a soft enderman sound escape from Ranboo. He was taking the news about Techno hard.
“Ranboo, I need you here,” Phil said frankly, “Techno can take care of himself. The man has the sheer willpower to keep living. I am going alone just in case the inevitable has happened and because I can cover more ground,” Phil motioned to the wings of the elytra. “This is where the rest of you come in…” Phil leaned forward his hands on the table. “I don’t think that this is a regular snowstorm.” His eyes flicked to Dream who had his arms crossed and his face covered by his mask.
 “Do you think it will ever stop?” George asked from behind Dream. Phil shook his head his eyes lowering to the pattern of wood on the dining room table.
 “Maybe?” Phil shrugged, but that was the coldest chill that Phil had ever felt. Not even the tundra felt that cold to him. “But I can’t ignore the fact that when the dragon was slain this started happening… In the middle of summer.”
 “Alright,” Dream spoke up. “You have us here, what would you have us do?” Phil thought about it for a second, his nails digging into the wood of the table.
 “We may have to go underground boys.” Phil straightened himself up, “I can build something to keep us warm underground, but first I have to find Techno.” Phil’s eyes flicked to each person in the room. “Ranboo, Tommy, and Tubbo, you will need to start a mine one big enough to hold as many people as we can,” Phil looked between Wilbur and Fundy, “I need you two to find and bring as much livestock, saplings, and seeds back to the mine” Both Wilbur and Fundy nodded. “Dream, Sapnap, and George are the rescue team for anyone out there.”
 “I can ask Antfrost, to scavenge around, maybe BBH will help him with that as well.” Sapnap offered leaning on the table toward Phil. Phil nodded.
 “We will need all hands on deck for this one boys,” Phil straightened up. “I would get started immediately. Make sure to stay warm.” With that the group nodded and scattered to do their tasks. Ranboo stayed back, his eyes trained on the floor.
 “What if Techno is gone?” He whispers. “I don’t want to forget him…” Phil’s heart ached for Ranboo.
 “He’s not, I promise Ranboo.” Phil was unsure, but it had been hours since they had departed from the desert. He had to keep Ranboo stable. “Techno and I have lived in tundra’s before, if anyone knows how to survive this mess it’s him.”
 “But this isn’t like any tundra I’ve seen Phil.” Ranboo clutched his memory book to his chest. His fingers twitching over the cover. “What if you get hurt out there too? Then you both won’t be here.” This caused Phil to put his hand on Ranboo’s shoulder.
 “I know the risks, Techno did too when he separated from us. I will find him Ranboo, and I will bring him back. That is a promise.” Ranboo kept his eyes to the ground.
 “You… Promise… Okay,” Ranboo let out a sigh. “Just know, if you don’t come back, I’m going after you too.” Phil thought about this for a second.
 “Alright… But I sure as hell am not leaving Kristin.” Phil squeezed Ranboo’s shoulder slightly. “I am coming back. I have to.” Ranboo nodded.
 “I believe you Phil.” He finally said after a second. “I’m going to go help the others with the mine now. You should rest up for tomorrow.” Ranboo waved over his shoulder and left to go find the others, leaving Phil alone with his thoughts.
 -
 You were still unconscious, Techno had wrapped you up in several blankets, because the cold was starting to get to him even with his fireplace on full blast, he couldn’t imagine how you felt. He thought you would have woken up by now, and it was starting to worry him that you weren’t waking up. He was lost in his thoughts. Resting an arm up on the mantle he watched the flames dance around the boiling cauldron of water. He had filled his bathtub for you a while ago and he was worried it would get cold at this rate.
 The rustle of the blankets could be heard, and he turned to look over his shoulder at you. You had balled up on your side. The blanket exposing your back which was still caked in blood. Your body was shaking, and he could see your eyes weakly open. He let out a sigh of relief and he turned to you, kneeling to cover your exposed back with the blankets. His fingers lightly grazed your back, touching some of the blood.
 ‘Slaughter.’
 ‘Kill her.’
 Techno flinched, withdrawing his hand from you quickly. Swallowing down the lump in his throat he made eye contact with you.
 “Who are you?” You managed to get out. When you spoke it invoked a coughing fit that made you dizzy. When you had stopped coughing you couldn’t stop shaking.
 “Technoblade,” He replied in his monotone voice acting indifferent to the fact that even the smell of your blood was causing the voices to come back. “Just Techno if you live.” You frown, not knowing whether he was joking or not.
 You gave your name as you coughed into the blanket; your lungs started burning.
 “Do you think you can manage a bath?” Techno asked. You nodded sitting yourself up. Your muscles started aching and you winced. Techno watched your every movement, you were definitely swaying a bit, you could feel it, and the movement made you dizzier and dizzier with each moment passing by.
 “I just need a moment.” You refused to ask him for help. You shut your eyes tight, hoping that would help your dizziness. Your nose was stuffed, and you had to rely on breathing through your mouth. You started to push yourself up off the ground. The blankets falling off your body, causing a shiver to run down your spine at the cold air rushing to your body. The muscles in your legs screamed at you to stop but you kept pushing through. Technoblade hovering over you as a safety net. You only got to two steps before you started falling forward. Techno dove for you wrapping his arm around your waist and pressing you to his chest.
 “You’re not getting anywhere on your own.” Techno towered over you. Watching you pout your lips out in determination. He could tell you were agreeing with him. His grip tightened on you, and he carried you to the bathroom with ease.
 ‘Look how pretty the blood looks on her skin.’
 ‘More.’
 He had to stop himself from shaking, this was proving harder to deal with than he thought.
 ‘You know you wanna.’
 The voices taunted him, and he wasn’t sure if you could see it in him. He let you grab a hold on the tub for stability.
 “Call if you need anything.” Techno was desperate to leave the room. You gave a little nod and with that he had strode out and shut the door behind him. He breathed a sigh of relief happy to be away from you. It wasn’t you but it was the situation you were in. He damned himself for not being able to control the voices.
 “I’m so weak.” He spat out, his nose wrinkling in disgust at himself. The urge to stab something was still strong and he made a move to the food he had prepared ahead of time to cook.
 ~~
 The water around you had turned to a rust color by the end of your bath, the heat was soothing, especially in the cold but it wasn’t long before the water started to run cold on you. Leaving you shaking in the water once more. You pushed up from the bathtub. Looking around, you find a towel sitting there with a change of clothes- his clothes. You sat on the edge of the bathtub drying yourself off, afraid you were going to fall. That would be awkward for both parties if you lost your strength again when you weren’t clothed. You felt your cheeks start to heat up from him catching you earlier.
 “You’re ridiculous,” You whispered while you internally screamed at yourself. You didn’t want to owe this man your life but here you were. Being in debt to someone wasn’t something you wanted to be in. You wanted to be alone, that way no one could use you. You were done with that. Or at least you thought you were. Your lungs burned and you felt another coughing fit sneak up on you. You spit up what you could in the sink. Your nose was still stuffed up, which annoyed you. The cold air rushing around your body was almost too much.
 You looked down at his clothes that he set out for you and sighed. When you put the brown pair of pants on, they were loose, and you were grateful for the belt he left for you as well. The white blouse was too big but doable. Stabilizing yourself on the wall you walked out of the bathroom to see Techno cooking steak potatoes and carrots. He motioned at a chair sitting next to the fireplace and you promptly sat down eager to get as much heat as you could. Before too long Techno had a plate of food in front of you.
 “How are you feeling?” He asked. Shrugging, you felt his eyes on you, he sighed and before you could stop him, he put the back of his hand on your forehead.
 “You’re burning up,” Techno said flatly, “Do you want me to waste all this effort on you just to have you die on me?” You felt a stab of guilt and shook your head. “You need to tell me these things.”
 “I’ll be out of here in a few days…” You looked him squarely in the eye. “I won’t be a drain on your resources for much longer.” The silence was deafening, and you both were left in a stare down.
 “That’s not really the issue here Y/N.” He kneeled so he was eye level with you. “Wasting resources is one thing, even in this… Whatever this is.” He motioned to the windows which showed the everlasting snowstorm. “I know you don’t want to die. So, let’s help each other out. I have places to be, places that are much safer than out there, you can stay there. I can’t get us there if you’re hiding things from me and making yourself even more sick.” You nodded averting his gaze.
 Stabbing your fork into a carrot, you sighed, you couldn’t taste most of the food you were eating, because your nose was stuffed. He huffed out and stood above you. Making a move to look out the window.
 “You’re acting like the snow won’t stop… Why?” Your question caused him to look over his shoulder at you. His golden eyes reaching your gaze. Before too long he was facing the window again.
 “…Just have a feeling, given the circumstances.” He didn’t want to tell you the full story, at least not now. When you didn’t question further, a wave of relief washed over him. The less you knew at this point the better. Some time had passed and the both of you had eaten. His eyes move over to the ruined blood-stained cloak.
 He bent down and picked up the clothing hastily throwing it out the front door onto his porch. Night had fallen over the world, the air still as the snowflakes were falling peacefully from the sky. The snow wasn’t too deep just yet, and there was still a part of him that hoped that the snow would stop. He had to wait and see if that was the case. He had only just stepped out of his house onto the covered porch for a second, and he couldn’t stand the cold. His thoughts were interrupted by your violent coughing. He turned to look at you. He had to find something to ease your sickness. He never got sick, and so he never needed to gather herbs that would help a sickness. That would be tomorrows job, going to the nearby village to see if the villagers were around to trade.
 He walked into the house closing the door behind him. Grabbing the blankets off the floor, he started wrapping you in them one by one. The fire wasn’t doing too much for you it seemed. He just had to watch you. Your body shivered next to him; your hair was still wet from your bath. He felt guilty for rushing you to take a bath, no wonder you were freezing. You had leaned into his touch unconsciously. Your eyes closed just a bit before your head started bobbing forward, you were fighting sleep.
 Techno sighed, picking you up and setting you on the ground closer to the fire. His bedroom was too cold to sleep in, so this was where both of you were going to sleep, until Techno figured out what to do. But there was a question looming in his mind.
 What was he going to do with you?

Pairing: Micah Bell x GN!reader
Warnings: It’s all fluff again (there’s one profanity if that's an issue)
A/N: Well this is fun I have no clue where this came from, but here it is. Who doesn’t love some Micah fluff?
Tumblr media
“C'mere, quick,” Micah said gruffly, beckoning to you as he got ready to mount Baylock. You rushed over, expecting him to need his girth tightening or his bridle fixing as usual, but when you reached him he said nothing of the sort. Micah's eyes looked confused, as though he'd forgotten something important, and he was fidgeting with one of his stirrups. Looking at him, you gave him a quizzical expression, if this was his idea of a joke, it wasn't a particularly funny one. Just as you were about to turn around to leave, he grabbed you by your waist, pulling you to him and pressing his lips onto yours without saying anything.
For a moment, you couldn't quite comprehend what had happened. The promiscuous Micah Bell was kissing you, and he'd initiated it. Inside, you felt a turmoil; this man notoriously fucked and left — he was always boasting how he never caught feelings for anyone, yet the pounding of his heart told a slightly different story, and you didn't mind it. Just as your brain had caught up with your rush of feelings, he had pulled away from you, dropping the hand at your waist and swinging himself onto Baylock.
You wanted to say something, something which would tell him you enjoyed it, but his steely expression as he looked past you took all the courage from you. Instead, you watched as him and a few others left camp, cantering away in a group through the trees. Regret flooded you for not doing something, wishing you'd kissed him back, or said something to him. And now he was gone for you didn't know how long, that man could take four weeks for a three-day mission.
Nearly two weeks passed before you heard him return, looking run-down and exhausted as he threw himself off his horse. Usually, you'd rush over to him, checking his horse over and taking anything from him, such as his coat or bag. But today you hung back, letting Kieran do it instead as you stood and watched from the safety of the trees. Micah didn't speak to anyone, scowling and throwing a bag of money by the ledger before he stormed off to the perimeter of camp, he always preferred the company the silence of the forest provided over the bustle of camp.
He wasn't seen until late that evening, when he emerged from the trees, comforted by the fact most of the camp was asleep, and sat by the fire. You'd occupied yourself throughout the day, grooming the horses and moving hay bales for feed in order to take your mind off him. But now you sat, at the table, watching him stare into the fire, sitting slumped on one of the crates. His hands fiddled with the leather bracelet he wore, twisting it repeatedly as you watched him.
You must have sat there for a while, staring at him as he sat there, thinking of the last time you had (or hadn't) spoken to him; yet his silence towards you told you he was not as interested as you'd thought him to be. While he was away, he had invaded your thoughts, images of him returning from a job and holding you tightly, how you'd both sit by the fire as the evening drew in, and how he'd kiss you. That last one was the worst, you'd had a taste of him and now, like a drug, you couldn't get enough, addicted on the thought he could be yours.
Finally, you shook some sense into yourself, if he was too much of a coward to speak to you, you'd have to do it yourself. Brushing your clothes of the hay and dirt, you walked over to him. Without a plan in your mind, you blurted out the first thing on the tip of your tongue.
“Micah what in hell were you thinking?” as you said this, you mentally chastised yourself, this was supposed to be you reciprocating his feelings for you, not yelling at him. Micah looked up in shock, and only then did you get to take in his face, scratched and dirty, tiredness had worn lines into his face, and his eyes looked half asleep already. Suddenly you felt guilty at disturbing him, considering apologizing and leaving him alone, repressing the feelings you'd formed for him over the past weeks.
You stood there, debating between leaving or saying something, and Micah didn't take his eyes off yours the entire time. It was only now you noticed his eyes weren't grey, they were blue, like the blue of a lake, or the steely blue of those shimmering fish in the river. As you stared, his eyes flitted between your eyes and your lips, making you blush with his undivided attention on you. Defeated, you sat down beside him, not yet knowing what to say, but knowing that being beside him was enough for now.
“Sorry I yelled at you,” you mumbled, not wanting him to hear it, but also knowing your reaction was not what you'd planned. Surprisingly, Micah laughed at this, shifting on the log, so he was facing you.
“I deserved it all, I was an ass,” his eyes looked less tired now, they had regained some of the happiness you were accustomed to. At his response, you shook your head, diverting your eyes from his, choosing to look firmly at your hands on your lap instead of him.
“Look at me,” he said, putting his hand under your chin to bring your face up to his. His touch was gentle, almost kind, and most definitely against everything you'd previously expected him to be. “Let's do this proper shall we?” he said quietly, moving, so his lips was only inches from yours, you could feel his breath as he spoke, making your stomach dance happily.
Micah closed the gap between you, his lips finding yours, and your arms wrapping around the back of his neck, holding you to him. Kissing Micah was nothing like anything you could have fantasized about, his lips were softer than you'd remembered, his moustache not bristly as you'd anticipated it to be. His hand moved from your chin to your thigh as he deepened the kiss, moving closer to you. Just as you were getting comfortable, he pulled away from you, pressing a quick kiss on your lips again as he looked at you.
As you both drifted to sleep, Micah held you close, keeping you warm along with the fire, his hands stroking shapes onto you, occasionally peppering a few kisses to the top of your head.
“C'mere,” he said gruffly, grabbing one of your hands and standing up to walk over to his roll mat, picking it up and bringing it back to the fireside. As you followed him, your mind was still dizzy from the kiss, and holding this man's hand nearly made you cry; this was better than you could have thought. When the mat was on the floor, he sat on it slowly, groaning as he bent down, the long time on horseback was beginning to catch up with him. Once he was comfortable, lounging with his head resting against a crate, you sat beside him, shuffling, so your head nestled itself in the crook of his neck. Micah huffed, shifting to kiss you again as you relaxed into him, letting your hands roam over him. For some reason, you'd always pictured him being made of stone, or built from hatred, but instead he was soft, and kind to your touch.
“You're quite alright, y'know that?” he mumbled quietly, his voice laced with sleep as he pressed another kiss to your forehead. While he couldn't see your smile, the kiss you placed on his jaw was enough to make him understand — you were happy.
:)

Overnight
Tumblr media
Pairing: Harry Styles x Reader
Genre: AU, Angst, lil bit of fluff, best friends to enemies to lovers
Word count: 3.3k!
A/N: Hi! I don’t think I’ve ever posted a fic on this blog before and I haven’t really written in about five years, so please be nice!! I’m very nervous and I would love some feedback if you have any :) Also, this is loosely based on Overnight by Maggie Rogers (it’s a wonderful song, give it a listen) Thank you so much for reading!! More of my writing can be found here!
You would have known that voice anywhere. It was smooth and deep and laced with the most perfect accent that you had ever heard. His voice penetrated the crowd of the bar and found its way to you, like he was speaking only for you. He sounded like music to your ears, but that of a song that hung heavy in your heart.
You clenched your hands tight around the glass that held your whiskey, the uncomfortable feeling of knowing he was here invading your thoughts. You wanted to run and you quickly gulped the rest of your drink. The back of your throat burned from the alcohol as you reached for your coat that had accompanied you and your friends in the booth. A curt “I have to go,” left your lips as you made a b-line for the door, needing to escape the bar that felt so small and suffocating all of a sudden.
You didn’t mean to look over your shoulder. It was a subconscious need to get one good look at him before you escaped that took over your body. He had been talking to a pretty girl, but his eyes looked over her shoulder and they locked with yours. It felt like you knew those eyes in a different lifetime; everything was so different now. Those eyes lit up when he registered your face, quickly excusing himself from the girl and beginning to move towards you.
You panicked as you realized he was coming near, fighting your way through bodies towards the exit. As you felt the shockingly cold air of a New York City winter hit your skin, you also sensed a familiar hand grab yours. It was warm. He had always been so warm. You could barely make out the rings that sat on his fingers, but you could see them so clearly in your mind. The mix of gold and silver jewelry that you had played with when it was the only thing either of you had on was burned into your brain. You ripped yourself away from those happy memories and your hand from his.
“You are not allowed to touch me anymore,” you attempted to shout, but it came out as a whimper. It was like as soon as your eyes connected, he stole all of your power.
“Y/N, please,” he breathed. “I just need to talk to you.” His eyes looked desperate and a small part of you felt triumphant. Your prayers that he missed you had come true but the tidal wave of emotions you were feeling dimmed any joy you could have felt.
“Harry, you made it very obvious that I didn’t fit into your life,” you hissed. “You’ve done enough talking to make it crystal clear that I was just a fuck to you.” Tears began to sting your eyes but you forced yourself to swallow them away. He didn’t get to see you cry over him.
“You know that’s not true. You were my best friend.” Your heart hurt with his use of the past tense, but was true. You hadn’t been best friends for a while.
“Best friends don’t lead best friends on while fucking other people.”
***
The night was warm and the air was balmy. The humidity hung around you on the front stoop while a party raged inside. The alcohol coursing through your veins had heated your body temperature and you found yourself sitting on the steps, trying to escape the heat.
A hand rested on your shoulder and you turned to see who it belonged to. A metallic glimpse of gold and silver rings signaled for you to let down your defenses, relaxing your muscles that were getting ready to run. A grin fell across your lips as you looked up to the owner of the rings.
“Hey,” you beamed. You couldn’t censor your adoration for the man in your altered state. You loved him and anyone paying attention could see it.
“Hey you,” he answered, sitting down on the front steps next to you. “How are you doing, my love?” The way he said ‘love’ made your cheeks heat further. He had called you ‘love’ since you had met in college, a hold over from growing up in England that had stuck years after graduation. The term of endearment had only been a sign of friendship to you until you began sleeping together a few months earlier. You had both agreed to a strictly platonic friends with benefits situation, but like in every movie written as a cautionary tale, you had quickly fallen for him. You were hopeful he felt the same about you. He was so affectionate and loving, you assumed that he was just waiting for the right time.
“I’m a little too drunk,” you said with a hiccup and a giggle. “I think you have to take care of me,” you murmured as you began to feel dizzy.
“I will,” he assured. “You stay here. I’ll be back in a little bit and we’ll get you home, okay?” He pressed a familiar kiss to your head as he got up, disappearing back into the party.
You didn’t think much of him reentering the brownstone. You played on your phone and only decided to go look for him after a sweaty stranger plopped himself down next to you on the steps and began hitting on you. You didn’t want anyone else, just Harry. You scanned everyone inside, scaling the stairs as you continued searching for the floppy hair that you thought looked sexy pushed back. You giggled to yourself as you thought about how there was a Mean Girls joke to be made, but your face and heart dropped as you heard a familiar groan through the door at the top of the stairs. Your suspicions were confirmed as you heard a woman moan “Harry” at the top of her lungs.
You slammed the door open. He was on top of her, his muscular back shining with sweat in the light of the now open door and littered with scratch marks. He turned and looked back to tell whoever opened the door to get out, but paused when he saw your heartbroken face. “Oh my god,” he whispered, quickly moving off of her and covering himself up.
Your eyes began to fill with tears and blur your vision, but not before you realized you knew the girl in the bed. Her name was Grace and you had introduced the two earlier in the night. It clicked in your head. He left you on the porch when you needed him to go fuck your friend.
“I need to go,” you stammered, turning around and running from what you just saw. You held tight to the handrail, trying not to fall down the stairs because of your tear filled eyes and intoxication. Harry chased you down the stairs after you, ready to catch your wobbly body if you were to lose your balance.
“Y/N,” he shouted at you. “Talk to me!”
Once you were on the sidewalk, you whipped around to face him. The pain in your chest had been masked by explosive anger. “How fucking dense are you, Harry? Are you fucking blind?”
“What are you talking about?” he shouted back. His button up was thrown haphazardly over his shoulders, his stomach fully exposed. You tried your best to focus and not let his butterfly cast its’ usual spell over you.
“I’m in love with you, Harry!” you screamed. It was the most obvious thing in the world for you. You couldn’t understand how he could sleep with someone else, especially while you were patiently waiting for him. He stood there quietly, chest still rising and falling rapidly. “I have made it so obvious. You are the center of my world. I drop everything for you at a moment’s notice.”
“We always said this was just sex, Y/N.” He spoke firmly, but you knew him well enough to hear the pang of guilt in his voice. “I didn’t mean for you to get that idea. I was never interested in anything romantically with you.”
“Then why do you call me pet names? Why do you always stay over after we hook up? Why do you hold me all night long? Why do you act like you’re my boyfriend?” you peppered him with rapid questions as you cried. The salty taste in your mouth signaled that the angry tears were now streaming down your face. “And even if it was just platonic and you never meant to give me that idea, you go and fuck my friend? That I introduced you to two hours ago? While I’m drunk and need you?”
His face fell and guilt coated his features. He tried to follow you down the sidewalk as you walked away from the brownstone and you nearly slapped him across the face. He looked down at the ground pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration while feeling the shame you hoped he would.
“I’ll get myself home,” you spat. “Do not call me. I don’t want to talk to you.”
***
It had been eight months since you had seen him last and seeing him at the bar knocked the air out of you. You couldn’t get the image of him out of your head. Every time you closed your eyes, he stared back at you.
He had changed since you last saw him. He had a short beard, got a few more tattoos, and grew his hair out. His curls had returned and you couldn’t help but want to touch them. You missed looking at him. You missed everything about him.
Your phone buzzed on the coffee table in front of you and a picture of Harry from years ago with space buns in his hair lit up the screen. You remembered that night; it was one of the happiest times of your life. Most of your happiest memories involve him somehow.
You had unblocked his number after you saw him at the bar a few nights ago and you weren’t sure why. You picked up the phone and debated if you wanted to answer it. You braced yourself and swiped a finger across the screen, bringing the phone to your ear.
“Hello?” you squeaked out.
“Oh my god... hi Y/N,” he sounded surprised.
“Hi…” you drifted off.
“Um… I’m not sure what to say. I call a lot and you never pick up,” he confessed. “I don’t really have anything to tell you. I wasn’t expecting to get to talk to you.” You stayed silent, waiting for him to say something you could answer. “Um, can we meet up?” he choked out.
“I’ll be at our spot in an hour.”
True to your word, you were there within the hour. You were both sitting on your bench in Washington Square Park. If you looked close, you could still make out the tiny letters of ‘H+Y/N’ surrounded by a heart in the wood. You had carved it on a drunken night out during college when you both had gotten lost trying to find the way back to one of your apartments’. You rubbed your gloved fingers over it, trying to remind yourself why you were attempting to forgive him. You wanted your Harry back.
“I told myself everyday that I would eventually lose those feelings for you and we could just be friends again,” you mumbled, wanting to sink down into your coat and refusing to look at him in the eye. You knew that you wouldn’t be able to resist those eyes; you loved them too much. “But I spent months hoping you would realize how much I loved you one day, and that you would love me too.” Your voice was low and your cheeks were bright red from the cold, but mostly embarrassment. You were out of practice being vulnerable with him.
“Can you please look at me?” he asked, lifting your chin so your eyes would meet his. His fingers were so soft on your skin and you felt the cool metal of his rings. You recalled how they felt on the rest of your body and yearned to be close to him again. “Stop crying over me, my love.” He moved to wipe the tears off your face and you leaned into his hand at the sound of his old pet name for you.
“I have cried over you for so long,” you forced out the sentence, feeling so pathetic. “It feels natural at this point.” You watched his face twinge with remorse. He knew he caused all of this pain because of his own stupidity. He pulled you into his body, curling around you in an attempt to protect you after all he had done was hurt.
“I’m so sorry for what I did to you,” he sighed. He had never apologized before, and hearing him show remorse made a more few tears slip down your face. “I was careless and didn’t pay close enough attention to how you were feeling. I should have been able to pick up every signal you sent me.”
“I agree,” you choked on a laugh through tears. He was quiet for a moment. You heard him take a breath to begin speaking again but you cut him off. “Why did you do it?” you questioned him. “We could have gone back to my apartment and you could have slept with me.”
“Because I was so afraid of how I felt about you,” he conceded after a long pause. “You were not the only one with feelings, Y/N.”
You were stunned. It had never crossed your mind that he might have felt the same way after how he treated you that night. You pulled away from his body to search his eyes for any hint of deceit, but he was telling you the truth. You breathed out a soft ‘oh,’ and attempted to process this new information.
“I don’t understand.”
“If you were so angry with me that you broke off our arrangement, I hoped that I could push everything down and just go back to the way things were before,” he explained. “When you confessed your feelings, I panicked. I should have come clean, but I didn’t and I broke your trust in more ways than one. I have called you nearly everyday since, trying to explain myself and take back everything I said, but you were shut off to me, rightfully so. I’m not asking for everything to go back to where we were, I’m just asking for your forgiveness. I can’t leave with us like this.”
And finally the picture for you was complete. You understood that night; the full motivations behind events that ruined you for over half a year.  For the first time since that night, you felt at peace. You weren’t worried that he never wanted to be with you, or angry that he had slept with Grace, or anxious that he would be out of your life forever. You felt the anger and resentment that had made itself home inside of you begin to melt away. You felt lighter.
“You have it.”
***
His eyes sparkled in spring’s late afternoon sunlight that was streaming through the coffee shop’s window. They peaked out from over his mug as he took a sip of his coffee, black with a single sugar, and you watched his movements carefully. You tried to take in as much of this time as you could, trying to create good memories to make up for the time you had lost.
It had been a few weeks since Harry had reentered your life and you had spent so much time together, sometimes it felt like you had never strayed from each other’s side. You hadn’t picked up where you had left off. You had decided to stay friends for the time being, agreeing it wasn’t the right time for a relationship, although you both wanted to be more. It was happier and healthier for both of you with everything life was throwing at you.
“What are you thinking?” he smirked. “You have your thinking face on.”
“That I missed this,” you confessed, bringing your own cup to your lips. You had missed everything about the time you spent with one another. You had been best friends for a reason.
“I never want it to end,” he remarked.
You sat in the coffee shop until the workers were cleaning up around you, talking about everything and anything under the sun. He had walked you home to your apartment, hand-in-hand, unable to say goodbye just yet. As you reached your front door, Harry reached for you and pulled you into a warm hug. You reached your arms around him and felt your sore muscles from helping him move out of his apartment the day before. You rested your head on his chest and just stood there for a moment. You both knew what was coming when you eventually pulled away.
“I don’t want to leave you,” he exhaled into your hair.
“We’ll be okay,” you assured him. “We can make it through anything, right?” you asked, not sure if you were directing the question towards him or yourself.
Harry had been offered his dream job while you weren’t speaking. You were so proud of him when you found out, even if it was in London. The job was why he was so adamant about making up. He refused to leave New York until you were on speaking terms, afraid if he left, the two of you would be done forever.
You felt him begin to pull away after he checked his watch, knowing he needed to leave for the airport soon. You fought off the lump in your throat and steeled yourself so you wouldn’t cry. This was so good for him and you refused to make him feel guilty for taking this opportunity.
“I love you and I’m going to miss you so much,” he spoke as he held your face in his hands, eyes boring into yours. The love between you didn’t need to be classified as romantic or platonic anymore, it was just love.
Your heart broke as you said your goodbyes and watched him walk down your hallway. You made sure you watched until he turned a corner and you couldn’t see him any longer, making sure he was safe for as long as you could. You closed your apartment door behind you and fought off tears. You had faith in your relationship and knew you would make it.
As you moved to lay on your couch and cry it out, you heard a knock of your door. You knew that knock anywhere. You ran to the door and as you opened it, you felt Harry’s lips connect with yours. This kiss wasn’t lustful like ones you had shared in the past, just full of love and adoration for the other. He held you sweetly and your mind tried to memorize everything about this moment.  You stood there, tangled together, for several minutes, staying connected in the way you had never been before.
“I couldn’t leave without getting one last kiss,” he admitted when you both came up for air.
“I’m glad you didn’t,” you beamed back at him.
You didn’t know what was next for you both, but you knew you had a future. You had been apart before, and you had always found your way back to each other. You had no doubts that you would again.

chapter 8 - i do
summary: y/n and steve don’t get along. now, they have to.
pairings: au!steve rogers x fem!reader
warnings: hangover, alcohol
a/n: enjoy!
series masterlist
Tumblr media
y/n awoke to soft snoring. her head was resting on steve’s bare chest, his arm protectively curled around her. she could hear his steady heartbeat. her head was throbbing and she groaned, snuggling further into him as a defense to the cool breeze coming in from the ajar window. she lifted her head when she realized that she was in her underwear. she glanced sleepily at her surroundings, pulled the covers up, and fell back asleep.
she woke up some time later with the need to use the bathroom. she looked up and admired steve’s peaceful countenance. his lips were slightly parted and his cheeks were rosy. she sat up and stretched, her back cracking. unbeknownst to her, he began stirring when she moved away from him. he missed her warmth. she pushed the covers off but before she could leave bed, he grabbed her waist, his grip surprisingly firm, and pulled her onto him.
“where are you going?” his voice was raspy and his words slurred together. his eyes were barely open.
“i have to pee.”
“last night-” he began but she interrupted him.
“let’s not talk about it,” she planted her hands on his chest and leaned forward, the ends of her hair tickling him, “let’s just let it happen. we’ll see where we go from here.”
his hooded eyes were drawn to her mouth as a lazy smile spread across his pink lips. “can i kiss you?” he hummed.
“your breath stinks,” she whispered.
“your breath is worse,” he whispered back.
“whatever, rogers,” she playfully slapped his chest before reluctantly leaving him. she slipped into the bathroom, did her business, and just before she began brushing her teeth, there was a knock on the door.
“who is it?”
“me,” she heard steve’s muffled voice from behind the door. she opened the door and looked at him expectantly with her hands on her hips.
“hi,” he had a childish smile on his face.
“hello, steven,” she replied. “may i help you?”
“can i brush my teeth?” he tilted his head to the side, resembling a puppy. she physically could not say no to him. her heart swooned. she stepped back and let him in. they began brushing their teeth, making eye contact in the mirror. he wrapped his arm around her shoulders while standing from behind and held her close to his body. he pulled his brush out of his mouth and pressed a sloppy kiss to her cheek. she squealed and pushed his face away.
they got dressed and headed downstairs to have breakfast. “good morning, dear,” sarah greeted steve as he pressed a kiss to her cheek. she stood at the island, cutting strawberries.
“mornin’, ma,” he mumbled back and retreated back to y/n’s side.
“how did you two sleep?” she glanced between them as she transferred the fruit from the cutting board to a serving bowl.
“good, thank you,” y/n offered a smile which was returned. she spotted a stack of plates on the counter and decided to set the table. she picked them up, but steve was quick to intervene.
“i can do it, doll,” he told her, gently taking them from her.
“i can do it, too,” she responded, reaching for them.
“you snooze, you lose,” he grinned, stepping back so the plates were just out of her grasp. she unsuccessfully suppressed a smile and shook her head.
breakfast went on without a hiccup. everyone returned upstairs to get ready. he got dressed in his room and she took her garment bag and makeup into sophia’s room, where they chatted as they prepared themselves for the wedding. he racked his brain but he couldn’t remember what she was to wear that morning.
she entered his room casually as he adjusted his tie in the mirror. she went straight to her suitcase, tucking her makeup bag into a corner and draping the garment bag over the back of the desk chair. when he saw her behind him, he turned so quick that he got dizzy for a moment. she wore a tight emerald green dress. it stopped a few inches below her knee, but the plunging neckline and the slit up the leg kept it from being entirely modest. when she turned his back to him, he saw that the back was simply a criss-cross of straps. he cleared his throat, his mouth suddenly dry. she looked like sin and he didn’t mind rotting in hell for an eternity.
“y/n, you look amazing,” he exhaled. he held his hand out to her and she accepted, smiling radiantly at him. he slowly spun her around, taking her all in, and then tugged her close to his body. his hand went to her waist, eyes dropping to her lips. she wound her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
“who would’ve thought? the two of us together,” a teasing smile played on her features.
“who would’ve thought?” he echoed.
they stood in silence for a moment that seemed like a lifetime. “are you gonna kiss me or what, rogers?” she raised a perfectly manicured eyebrow. that was all the encouragement he needed to crash his lips onto hers. her body arched into his as she giggled into the kiss. she felt sixteen all over again.
“do you think we’re moving too fast?” he asked, after pulling away. he had a smile playing on his lips as he admired her.
“i mean, you are my boyfriend,” she joked, straightening his collar. she avoided his gaze.
“truly,” he added. “are we moving too fast?”
“maybe,” she sighed. he tucked his hand under her chin and tipped her head up so that she would meet his eyes. “but i don’t care,” she told him. her words were genuine.
“it’s okay,” he whispered. the words of comfort were more for him than for her.
the wedding ceremony went beautifully. it was on the intimate side, with less than 50 guests. he had rested his hand on her thigh, his thumb moving back and forth over her skin. he was a subtle distraction. he inched his hand up until she laced her fingers with his. “steve,” her voice was calm but a warning lurked beneath.
he smirked to himself, content with the fact that he had gotten under her skin. “i’ll behave now.”
once they arrived back home, she slipped out of her dress and into a silk robe. she took all of her things into sophia’s room, where they got ready, again. sawyer laid on his sister’s bed and toyed around on his phone. when she returned to steve, his breath was knocked out of her chest. the reception gown fit her like a glove, perfectly tight in all the right places and stretching over the curves of her body. she wasn’t paying attention to him, and instead to the jewelry that she had organized on his desk. she hummed softly to herself as she picked up the gold necklace. steve trailed behind her like a lost puppy. his lips were parted in shock.
“could you help me with the clasp?” she asked after struggling for a moment.
he wasn’t able to form a coherent sentence, so he wordlessly moved her hair out of his way and took the chain from her. his fingers brushed against her skin and goosebumps rose in its wake. he fastened the clasp, before gently running his fingertips down the nape of her neck. her back was pressed against his front. his lips ghosted over her neck as he moved his other hand to trail up her arm. she involuntarily shuddered, breathing out his name. she turned, her hands going to his face and pulled him down and into a kiss.
he stammered for a moment before finding the right words, “you are everything.”
they took a previously arranged limo to the venue for the reception. it was held in some ornate and expensive mansion. y/n was well aware that just a glass of champagne was most likely equivalent to her rent. the overwhelming wealth made her feel insecure. this life was one steve was used to and yet she felt isolated and out of place. she wondered if she would be able to fit in his life. despite this, she smiled and tried her best to not let her true feelings show through her facade.
everyone was lightly socializing, waiting for the newlywed couple to arrive. y/n pulled herself out of a conversation concerning investment banks to go to the restroom. she glanced around for steve, but did not spot him. she asked a waiter for directions and exhaled upon entering the bathroom, relieved to have just a moment of peace. she rolled her shoulders as she opened up her clutch to browse the meager contents and retouch her lipstick. after she had killed enough time, she opened the door, and immediately bumped into sophia.
“oh, hey y/n!” she smiled brightly.
“hi,” she mirrored her expression and stepped back, allowing the blonde girl to enter, “how’s your night going?”
sophia wrung her hands as she spoke, “a good start. i hope it continues like this. how about you?”
“i think i’m a little too sober. i’ve never attended such a nice event,” she admitted.
“it can be a bit overwhelming, even for me,” sophia empathetically replied. “i try to tell myself that it’s just one night.”
“just one night,” she repeated.
“on the bright side, you have steve! the picture he posted was so cute.”
“picture?” her voice went up an octave and she raised an eyebrow.
“yeah, on instagram.”
“yeah, on instagram,” she echoed. she cleared her throat and spoke again, “well, i should go back, now. steve’s probably looking for me.” with that, she breezed out of the restroom.
she found a secluded corner, tore her phone out of her purse, and opened up instagram. the first image to show up on her screen was a selfie of her, pietro, and steve. they were all beaming in the first picture, and in the second picture, steve was gazing at her with an adoration that made her breath catch in her throat. there was no caption on the post. with shaking hands, she locked her phone and placed it back into her purse. her prior feelings of alienation increased tenfold and she slowly returned to the party where everyone was settling into their seats to welcome wanda and vision.
steve had been scanning the crowd, looking for y/n. when he saw her, his face lit up and he raised a hand to beckon her. she briefly met his gaze before dropping it. his smile dropped into a frown and he lowered his hand. when she took her seat next to his, he leaned in close, his voice loud enough for only her to hear, “alright, darlin’?”
she nodded her head without looking at him. his frown deepened. before he could prod her more, the happy couple made their entrance and a round of speeches again. he couldn’t help but frequently glance at her, wondering what had caused the cold shift in her demeanor. “look at me,” he said to her, between speeches. she complied. he couldn’t read her. he reached his hand up and gently stroked her cheekbone with his thumb. “what’s wrong?” her resolve melted as her eyes fluttered closed and she leaned into his touch.
she wanted to pretend like everything was okay, but it wasn’t. she was terrified that she wasn’t enough for him. she managed a weak smile and answered, “nothing.”
they both knew she was lying.

FIC: The Mercy In You 1/1
Pairing: Demon Priest! Henry Cavill x YOU
Summary: You liked Sunday Sermons in the courtyard of the church the most.
Rating: Explicit, some religious/satanic imagery, oral sex (male receiving), rapacious absolution and yes, it’s the smutty smut you expect ;)
Notes: I don’t remember who said it, but this came out of the conversation regarding Sherlock!Henry’s high white collar :)
Bonus points if you know the song from which I took the title.

It was an extremely pleasant mid-Autumn morning and you enjoyed the warmth of the sun on your shoulders as you sat on the soft, neatly cut grass in the small courtyard between the church’s main building and the second smaller building which had been repurposed for administrative offices.
A thick luscious green hedge enclosed one side of the courtyard, and on the other side stood a tall iron lattice fence woven with thick ropy green vines from which sprouted sweet smelling red and purple flowers.
As you sat there, basking in the sun, you watched as two men, dressed all in black, ferried a small table and two matching chairs from the administrative building and into the courtyard where they set them up near to the tall hedge. Another man brought out a white dish, a vase of flowers and a silver goblet which he arranged carefully on the table.
One of the men looked your way and you gave him a friendly wave. He nodded and you went back to checking your audio equipment.
It was just another daily sermon session that the church liked to provide for parishioners who could not, or did not want to attend in person, but still wanted to receive the good word. You and your crew had been working with the church for months now, helping them to set up and livestream the daily sermons, and then edit and post the videos to the church’s website for future viewing.
You attended most of the filming sessions and found that each presenter brought a different flavour to their sermons, which you liked. And, while you weren’t particularly religious you found yourself liking the Sunday Sermons the best, for was a nice positive way to start the week.
‘Well,’ said the cameraman, glancing at his wristwatch. ‘We’re just waiting for the priest. We’ve got about a half hour before we start the stream.’
With a soft groan born of stiff cramped muscles from sitting cross-legged too long, you pressed up from the ground and stretched.
‘I’ll go and have a look around for him. I also want some water, so… two birds, one stone.’
The cameraman shrugged and you turned away, scowling, rebuffed that you didn’t even get a chuckle from your off-handed joke.
You walked across the grass to one of the open doors that you knew led to the corridor that ran directly passed the ladies loo and into the kitchen. Stepping  into the cool dim interior, something odd grabbed your attention.
You paused and listened carefully, but there was only muted silence. You closed your eyes and a sudden wave of strange arousal washed over you. You sucked in a sharp breath, surprised by the response of your body to that unseen force.
Then as quickly as the fervour had seized you, it was gone. You opened your eyes and casting about an apprehensive glance, you let out a shaky breath. You were alone in the corridor. Or at least as alone as you could tell. You made moves to continue to the kitchen when your bladder reminded you that there was another pressing matter at hand.
You eyed the heavy wood loo door and said aloud, ‘Ok, three birds.’
There were no towels, so you were still shaking your hands dry when you left the toilets,  and walked down the hall to where the offices were located. If the priest giving the sermon was anywhere, it was probably in there.
As you approached the offices, you could hear a soft chanting. The sound of it seemed to be coming from everywhere and you stopped, feeling a little disorientated. There was that rush of arousal again and you could feel the wetness beginning to seep into the crotch of your knickers.
The chanting waned a bit and keeping your focus on the door marked ‘Office’ you forced yourself to keep moving. You then realised that the chanting was coming from behind the office door. Male voices rose and fell rhythmically and you wondered if they were getting ready for the morning. Although you were loathe to disturb the men, you lifted your hand to knock on the door as you had to fetch the priest who would be giving the sermon in less than half an hour.
You knocked, and the chanting ceased. Putting on your pre-emptively chagrined face, you waited nervously for the door to swing open and possibly reveal a frazzled looking priest. However, you were still facing a closed door after a few minutes drifted by.
You knocked again.
Silence.
You felt uneasy and slipped your hand down the smoothly worn wood to rest on the door knob. You didn’t want to just barge in, so you waited and lifted your hand to knock again.
‘Are you looking for someone?’
The quiet voice behind you made you jump. You spun round, and pressed back against the office door.
‘Oh!’ you cried, pressing a hand to your breast and cringing at how dramatic you sounded. ‘You gave me a such a fright! I didn’t hear you.’
You recognised the tall man standing behind you and he looked perfectly pleasant with his bright blue eyes, brown curls and stiff high white collar.
‘I’m sorry,’ he said slowly, but looked anything but. ‘That wasn’t my intention.’
You let out a relieved, breathy laugh and mentally groped for his surname.
‘It’s Father ahh…’
‘It’s just Henry, please. There’s no need for formalities.’
You tasted his name on your tongue, licking it into the roof of your mouth, savouring it as you formed the syllables of his name and dumbly repeated it back to him, much to his visual delight.
It was an effort to break his gaze and you silently congratulated yourself when you managed to do it.
‘I’m ah…’ you jerked a thumb over your shoulder at the door behind you. ‘I’m looking for the priest who is doing the morning sermon. I... hahaha... I got distracted by the chanting.’
His eyes slid over to the door and then back to you and you felt thoroughly probed by his intense gaze. Your nipples tightened reflexively and you were embarrassed by the sweet lasciviousness that rose unbidden in your thoughts.
‘I don’t think anyone’s in there,’ he said, sounding incredulous about your claim of hearing chanting.
You opened your mouth to defend your own lucidity, but the words dried up when he reached for you. A pulse of excitement echoed in your core and you tensed, ready for the heat of his hand on you.
But it didn’t come.
Instead, he merely nudged you aside and closing his hand round the wood doorknob, he turned it. You barely had time to step away before he swung the door open, revealing a small cluttered room with one dusty window and four wood desks crammed close together in the centre. Trying to keep a respectable distance between the two of you and failing miserably, you curved around the door frame and sheepishly peeked in.
The room was empty and the free standing water dispenser gurgled mockingly from its place in the corner.
With his hand still on the knob, and his body trapping you in the corner between the door and the wall, Henry looked at you.
He was so close.
‘Maybe that’s what you heard?’ he asked, indicating the dispenser with a jerk of his chin.
‘I heard voices,’ you mumbled, looking back at him.
Noticing the thin strands of grey mingling with the curls at his temple, you caught yourself before you leaned in and sniffed him like a bitch in heat.
There was that wave of dark arousal again, deep and thrumming and more intense this time and you could only imagine that the source of that tantalising sensation, was Henry.
He pulled the door closed again and it slapped unceremoniously against your bottom, startling a gasp out of you.
‘Anything else?’ he asked, sounding pleased with himself.
There was something that he wanted, something that he expected from you and you couldn’t bring yourself to admit that whatever this thing was, you wanted to give it to him.
‘Forgive me, Father,’ you gasped, words escaping your wicked mouth before you even attempted to squash them.
His eyebrows rose with interest, silently asking about what you let hang unsaid in the air, and his plush lips lengthened into a knowing smile. There was an eagerness to his manner now, excitement and expectation in his fathomless blue eyes.
Was there a need to respond?
Obviously not, for Henry turned round without another word and beckoning you with two fingers, he led you from the administrative building to the main church and to the row of confessional booths lining the back wall.
When he pulled open the door to one of the booths, you belatedly thought that if this was the Father who was giving the sermon, this might make him late.
You had to say something.
‘I– I ah…’ you started and he paused mid-step into the booth, but didn’t look at you.
And in between slow, deep breaths, you heard him say, ‘Come, child.’
Or at least, you thought he spoke.
The whisper of his deep voice swirled around like smoke, coming from everywhere, coming from you and you weren’t sure which of you had spoken. You felt dizzy and unfettered and Henry was the only anchor that your mind could hold on to.
He then stepped fully into the booth and was sitting on the bench seat when you too stepped inside and closed the half-latticed door behind you. There was a low padded stool between his feet and instinctively you dropped to your knees before him. On the wall above his head hung the upside down cross outlined in thin red neon tubing and he was vaguely illuminated in the crimson tinged darkness.
You were sure that he was saying something and this close to him, you could feel his voice rumbling through you more than you could hear, or make out the words. You put your hands together in prayer in front of your face, then pressed your lips to the backs of your upraised thumbs.
Henry murmured soft encouraging praise when you reached forward and pushed aside the front panels of his black cassock. The material was softer than you expected and smiling a little, you stroked your palms up his surprisingly muscular thighs to where his trousers were fastened with a simple button and zip fly.
Henry trailed delicate fingers along your hair line and you could smell the scent of sugary vanilla and warm heather. You closed your eyes, inhaling the pleasant scent of his skin, and let your hands work blindly to guide his rock hard cock from his trousers. He was thick and heavy in your hands, nearly monstrous and your mouth watered at the sight of him.
You looked up at the sound of a soft exhalation of breath and what you saw made your own breath catch. He seemed to glow, the caramel highlights in his chocolate brown hair catching the blood red light, that same light causing the wetness between his slightly open lips to glisten. Sharp, jagged upper fangs curved down against his lower lip and the evidence of his true nature pulsed molten heat through you. This is what he was, this beast, you thought ecstatic to be privy to this sinful delight.
It was nothing at all to slide his glorious cock into your eager mouth and even further when he pressed your head down.
The scent of him surrounded you and the taste of him was incredible. Flattening your tongue, you drew back and trailed saliva wet strokes up and down the underside of his rigid flesh and Henry groaned deeply, voluptuously in response. Greedily, you engulfed him again, suckling him desperately, unashamed by the muffled, hungry noises you made.
You dug your fingers into his thigh to gain some purchase as you encircled the base of his cock with the other. When you squeezed, he swore beneath his breath, pushing you on to do it again. You swirled your tongue round the swollen, leaking head, licking him, sucking him until his hips snapped up to force his slick cock down your throat.
He gripped the back of your neck, and growled, ‘Accept your absolution.’
You held your breath and went still, relishing the fiery pulse of cum filling your mouth. Your face went hot and with salty tears stinging your eyes, you accepted it rapaciously.
Mouth brimming with thick creamy fluid, you gazed up at him once more, and in the dim crimson light, he gave you a contented grin that again exposed his ivory coloured fangs.
 He then fisted your hair and dragged you up from your knees before forcing you to straddle him.
Leaning in you let his sticky cum dribble into his open, waiting mouth as he guided you down into a sloppy possessive kiss.
Your walkie talkie crackled and you could hear the staticky voice of the cameraman.
‘Have you located Father Henry?’ he asked, sounding annoyed. ‘He’s going to make us late!’
Henry continued to kiss you, sucking your tongue into his mouth, heedless of the call for the Sunday Sermon. His grip on your arse held you tight to him and it was a struggle to pull away.
‘They… they’re looking for you,’ you gasped, stating  the obvious.
‘And?’ he asked.
‘And, you ahh… promised?’
What else could you say to a demon priest who was scheduled to perform the Sunday morning sermon?
Henry righted himself, huffed a disappointed sigh and standing, dumped you off of his lap. You tried to take a step back, but stumbled over the low stool. He caught you up by the waist and tutted softly.
‘I shan’t dare damage you as I wish to have you for later.’
In his dark embrace, you found yourself swooning. He lifted you effortlessly with one hand and opening the booth door, he deposited you carefully on your feet out in the main hall’s interior. You stared helplessly up at him, your devotion to him burning like a live wire inside you. You felt that you could weep at the sight of him.
He looked perfectly composed and just as pleasant as he did when you encountered him earlier in the day. You pressed the back of your hand to your mouth to silence your disappointed moan when he turned and strode to the courtyard where the filming crew waited.
Instead of following him, you went to sit in one of the back pews and looked up at the monstrous upside down cross that hung behind the pulpit -  a knowing specter that had been a witness to your rapturous gratification.
Your walkie crackled again.
‘Get out here! Who else is going to work the audio?’
With a sigh, you heaved yourself up from the pew and trudged out to the courtyard. You knew you wouldn’t survive the next hour.
-End. Please like reblog and follow, all that good stuff. Comment if you were moved :)

burnout only feels like burning
2.7k / Summary: kyle valenti doesn't have the same quarantine as his friends; an exploration of kyle's trauma during covid as a doctor. (tw depression & other triggers you’d imagine with this subject)
read & comment/ ao3
A little like the virus itself, Kyle’s relationship with his mask begins with worry, annoyance, and then pain. He’s more than happy to have the proper N-95 mask as they begin to get their first case at Roswell General but then a couple more patients trickle in and within a few days his skin is irritated and itching. Maybe it’s the news, maybe it’s the texts from his friends that he’s increasingly missing, but when the Regiment starts spouting off about how COVID is a joke he thinks it might be affecting his nerves too. By week three his former red mark left by the mask has become a permanent feature to his face and by week five it’s not a mark but a bruise instead. Blisters and cracks in his skin litter his hands from over-washing. His feet become so overused the pads of his feet feel numb and bruised and he wears through an entire pair of shoes.
Positivity has fled from his life by week seven and now he’s inside of a survival mode he’s never experienced. He thought after last year he’d be used to anything the world (or universe, rather, given all these aliens) could throw at him. Now what feels foolish, he had believed that there was nothing that could be worse than the previous pain of losing a patient or finding out his father had experimented on people’s lives.
When he’s out of ventilators and CPAP machines because Albuquerque needs them more and he has to choose whether or not to save the life of an eighty five year old or a thirty two year old he remembers from high school, he breaks.
 Guilt is one thing, grief is another, but the pure rage he feels knowing that Max Evans is out on the town patrolling as some fucking cop and not someone who could heal most of this hospital makes him want to commit actual murder. Maybe trading the blood of an alien on his hands would feel less heart-wrenching. But no. Max had brought back Rosa and had paid the price. Quelling his anger, he went back to work.
 He slept at the hospital most nights in the height of it. Sure the couch was rough, but it was better than the other on-call doctor beds down the hall. Three twelve hour ER shifts of a usual work week doubled to five days of thirteen hour shifts. Soon there’s a week where he pulls double shifts for an entire week when one of his nurses is urgently hospitalized herself. Hospital directors had left them with no PPE except contaminated masks to reuse. Maria, Isobel, and Rosa are in the forefront of a drive to make and donate masks to his hospital after some social media posts that he doesn’t even see until the cloth masks arrive and his medical assistants give him their handwritten note. It makes him smile, but smiling feels so foreign that he almost wants to break from that.
 Visitors are no longer allowed which means Kyle isn’t allowed to use his bedside manner to comfort the family of patients. He has to facetime mothers, spouses, and children and hold the phone over a patient who can’t breathe without machine assistance and pretend that everything is fine and that there’s still hope despite the hypoxia and lack of rising vitals. Ignore that if the patient goes into cardiac arrest more than once, the kindest thing to do given prognosis is to let the patient pass. Resuscitation and DNR (a patient’s begging request to not be resuscitated) becomes a word he uses in his daily work and not simply for intense surgeries.
 Exhaustion isn’t a deep enough adjective to describe the fugue state he goes into. File to file, room to room, ventilator to next… he isn’t surprised when his body starts to wear down. When he no longer feels hunger and instead feels all too hot and dizzy. Telling himself it’s just because of how much he’s exerting his body while covered in layers and layers of protective clothing doesn’t help the fact that he’s starting to have more trouble breathing as he walks the hallways at a fast pace. When he begins to cough, he does what he promised himself he wouldn’t do and drives out post-shift to the desert cabin of Max Evans.
 Part of him is too desperately tired to knock, but when he arrives on the property with the cop car idle and the house dark and at peace for the night, his fury greets him with the embrace of a long-lost friend. Knuckles pound at the wood and Max answers the door with surprise and a general look of defense, and Kyle tries not to immediately punch him in the face at the fact he looks like he had woken up from a comfortable sleep.
 “Heal me.” Kyle manages to spit out.
 “I—what’s wrong?”
 “Beginning stages of respiratory distress, fever, nausea—what do you fucking think?”
 “Kyle—,” Max starts to say, the hesitation deepening, and that does it.
 “No. I have not asked you for anything in all of this, Evans. Anything!” He shouts, voice hoarse. “Not when people got sick, not when they started dying, not even when we started having to let people die on purpose. And you know what? I wasn’t going to even come and ask you now, but I can’t get sick when I’m the one here fucking saving lives out of the two of us and you’re just cruising the streets handing out goddamn traffic tickets.”
 Max’s face isn’t stony like it usually is when Kyle’s yelling at him; this time it’s crushed and guilty but not nearly enough. “What kind of hours you work this week, Evans? A nice 8 to 4? Did you get facetime with Isobel or your mom, maybe binge through a few books and movies after you’re home? Did you sit down and eat a nice dinner and or go over to drink a few beers with Guerin since you can’t get sick? Even get a nice eight hours of sleep in your own bed in your nice quiet home?”
 No response.
 “I am not asking to sequence your DNA like Liz. All I am asking is for you to let me heal people since you don’t want to.”
 A night breeze is all that makes noise for a moment as Kyle catches his breath and glares at Max, who stands quietly but is staring down at his boots before he finally looks up and nods. Max steps forward then, and Kyle sees that his eyes are actually filled with tears. Temper deflating, but still not subsiding entirely, given that not much else is able to be done; Kyle lets Max place a hand on his shoulder and feels the extremely weird feeling spread throughout his body. Something more electric than anything else, which God knew made a lot more sense concerning his powers and how the body operated with electrical nerve impulses, but that is a train of thought better left for another day. He wants to just walk away, and he almost does, but he still mutters a “thank you” before he does so.
When his nurse dies a few days later and he watches as the staff double bag her body to take to the morgue, he escapes to his office and crashes on his couch with sobs. There’s no one here to support him. He can’t go to his mother’s home and collapse into one of her comforting embraces without risking infecting her. He can’t get wasted at the Wild Pony with Maria when it’s closed. He can’t visit Rosa or Arturo at the Crashdown. Keeping his friends and family safe meant keeping them away from him. Keeping them safe meant he needed to stop pushing his head into his hands to try and control the sound of his crying and get back to work at saving the lives around them.
He gets put on leave by the hospital administrator when he’s almost arrested for decking Wyatt Long in the hospital parking lot as the idiot stood outside with a sign rallying Regiment members to make sure the hospital was told it was killing people on purpose for the election. If Jenna hadn’t been the officer on duty he would have been cuffed and put on record, jeopardizing his license, but there was some self-preserving part of him that desperately wished for his practice to be over anyway. He’s not even sure how Jenna handles it, honestly, all he remembers is her dropping him off at his house from her patrol car like she had been nothing but an uber. No matter how angry and adamant he gets, his boss refuses to bend, saying it’s for his own good given the connections the Long’s have in the town and how Kyle has worked almost 74 of the past 76 days.
Alex is the first to visit him, unannounced. When the doorbell rings Kyle is mindlessly pretending to watch some tv show in his living room that’ll distract him from his consuming thoughts about patients, so he doesn’t get up to answer. He checks his silent phone to see if he was forewarned of a visitor but sees nothing. Unsure if it’s his boss or a patient’s family, he forces himself up onto his sore feet and opens the door after grabbing a regular mask off the coffee table. Black face mask on and standing further out from the door on the porch is Alex, the usual gruff hello turned into something soft. “Hey.”
Kyle heaves a sigh. He had wondered when the pity visits would begin. “Hey. You really shouldn’t be around me, you know.”
“I’m clearly a minimum of eight feet away in an open space while masked.” Alex smarts back. “Either way, I’m worried about you.”
Scoffing, he shakes his head. “Don’t fucking worry about me. Worry about getting sick, because if I have to see another person I care about die, I--,”
“Kyle.” the other says too kindly, the sort of pacifying voice Alex reserved for only the most dire situations. “I have no idea what you’re dealing with in specifics, but my experiences do overlap with yours in some places.”
“And?”
Maybe it came out a little too rude, because Alex raises a brow, but then sighs instead. “And I’m just checking in to make sure you know people care about you.”
“Thanks, Manes.” Kyle huffs in return, managing not to roll his eyes because focusing on being blunt and abrasive was so much easier.
“Just be careful.” Alex interjects before Kyle could close the door and turn back to his show. “Dealing with the trauma of what you’re dealing with gets dark very quickly.”
“Because I punched Wyatt Long?” he spits back sarcastically.
“No, because the suicide rates for healthcare professionals are drastically increasing along with the rates of PTSD diagnoses.” Alex says flatly, ever one to be unfazed by sarcasm. “And I’ve lost more active duty members to suicide than I have combat.”
Kyle pauses, caught. Maybe Alex had known he would be, because there isn’t some way he can give a smile and reassuring wave with him like he could his mother or Liz. While Kyle hadn’t actively thought of a plan, he couldn’t pretend he had noticed signs of depression the second he was alone in his house.
“The quiet is the worst part, right?” Alex says, all but reading his mind. “Not always because of the flashbacks, although those are horrible, but because if things are quiet then--,”
“--people are dying.” Kyle finishes, his voice raspier by the end of the three words. “Yeah, well, mine still are.”
“They’re going to.” Is what felt like a cold response, but somehow gave Kyle the understanding he’s been craving. “They’re going to die and because of your profession you’re going to be able to save some of them. Which will make you think you’re responsible to save all of them and because you’re a good person you’re going to feel guilty in ways that no one will understand for being human and failing to.”
“Failing is all I do lately.” Kyle replies. “Usually the wins feel higher than the losses as a doctor, but with this-- and no one outside of it cares. They go outside and yell about how this is about a fucking election and when it’s not the patients, it’s the hospital pretending they don’t have enough money to buy us proper protection. Or the government saying this will all go away and that it’s just a light cold.”
Alex gives a small nod. “I know. I also know telling you the same advice that you’d give another doctor of trying not to burn out and instead taking a small rest is useless. So I’m just going to drop off these dvd’s and make you report back to me the difference when you’re done.”
Star Trek and Star Wars. Kyle finds a smile tug on his lips. Alex leaves with one on his as well.
When he gives a response to Alex a few days later on how Star Wars is better not more than a few minutes later Deluca is texting him with recommendations on joining her Buffy the Vampire Slayer rewatch. There’s something sweet about the fact that people have been clearly talking about him, even if definitely borderline creepy with how nosy his circle of friends can be, but he sighs and lets Maria add him to the group chat she has with Rosa and Liz where they review each episode after the fact and even chimes in every now and then. Isobel gets added not long after due to an Instagram story Maria shares and then the group has moved onto Friends after everyone shoots down Liz for suggesting Grey’s Anatomy on behalf of Kyle. Alex is also in there, even if it’s rare he chimes in with an opinion, but once they start Friends his commentary about how much he hates Ross that gets the entire group riled up does tend to make him laugh. Even Kyle agrees with Forest-- whose opinion had been shared by Alex-- that Chandler had all too many queer-coded scenes with Joey.
His mother facetimes him daily, which given how they both don’t exactly go out much starts to become monotonous, until she begins to give in and talk about memories she has of their father. Tidbits she never would have shared with him about their adult life when he was a child or teenager. He in turn facetimes Rosa and shares some of the memories of their father as well, which as much as she tries to pretend she doesn’t want for Arturo’s sake she clearly does with the million questions she asks every single time and the small smile she gives him at the end of their calls.
Liz updates him on her work which is a nice reprieve from everyone’s normalcy and lack of medical jargon sometimes, especially when she gives him inside info on covid vaccine studies not yet published to the general public yet. Everything in him wants this more than anything else in the world right now and he texts her almost every day asking if she’s heard more news even when he knows things take time. She’s a good sport about everything, even when he shares in a very angry rant about Max Evans and how they could have helped so many more people so much more quickly with his DNA-- however selfish that might have been.
When he goes back to work, he feels refreshed, even when it makes things hit like a freight train once more. Lost in a sea of inadequacy, his feelings extend past the pandemic. Even when things return to a level of normalcy and the cases subside he gets alien medical drama thrown in his face once more, and he starts to wonder if he’ll ever recover. If he was wrong to choose this calling. If the fact he can’t help Max or Maria is a sign from above or his father that it’s time to make some career move or change location like his mother and Liz. But, like he tells Michael Guerin. He can’t think he can face his future children and say he walked away from this. Or let people die by quitting, just like Rosa warns. And so he stays and tries to heal both other people and himself.

Future TamTord
Warning: abuse, kidnapping, rape, violence, gore.
(No, it's not Tord kidnapping or raping)
Tamara had been working in the red army as Tord's assistant for a few years now. She got along with Patryk and Paul pretty well, and she and Tord almost never fight anymore.
Tamara thinks she actually might have a slight crush on Tord. Seeing him in uniform, giving orders, and being stern, made her blush. Tord wasn't like he used to be.
Tord was too busy to be poking fun at Tamara anymore. He used a stern voice with her now, but sometimes joked around every now and then.
Today, Tamara had to go to the copy room to make copies of important documents. But as she walked out of the copy room, a hand wrapped around her mouth and pulled her backwards.
Tamara didn't like to be touched. She wouldn't let anyone touch her, even for jokes, including Tord. After the giant robot incident, Tamara just didn't want to be touched anymore.
Tamara whipped around and kicked the unknown person behind her. They fell to the ground, holding their gut.
"Don't touch me. Who are you?"
She noticed the people behind him, pointing guns at her. Then she noticed red army soldiers dead on the floor. They were at their posts, guarding the halls.
A sudden pain was being felt on Tamara's thigh. She looked down and saw a dart in her thigh. It had a red pom-pom at the top of it, saying it was a tranquilizer dart.
The world around Tamara got dizzy. The stack of documents she had in her arms hit the floor, her body following after.
____________
Tamara woke up in a strange place. Her hands were tied behind her back.
She opened her eyes to a dimly lit room. A bedroom? What is this, a friendly neighborhood kidnapping?
Tamara looked around. There was a bed, a bedside table, and a lamp sitting on the table. Nothing else. This wasn't a regular bedroom.
Tamara's attention shifted when the door creaked loudly, opening and revealing a man in a black zip up jacket.
"Finally awake?" His voice was scruffy and deep.
Tamara didn't know where to begin, "Where am I? Who are yo-"
"It doesn't matter," the man walked over to Tamara, stopping front of her and squatting down, "What matters is that we have you. Red Leader is gonna be a fun fight."
The picture was all coming together. They take Tamara, Tord gets pissed and comes and saves her. So they're enemies to the red army. They weren't much either; a hate club at most. Tord can easily take them out.
He better come soon though.
The strange man grabbed Tamara by the chin, wanting to get a good look at her.
Tamara whipped her head away, growling, "Don't fucking touch me."
The man tried again, but got the same response from her.
He got upset and punched Tamara in her eye, "Don't you get away from me, bitch."
Tamara grunted in pain, lowering her head. The unknown man stood up, standing for a moment before kicking Tamara in her gut, and then walking off.
Tamara could hear voices outside the door. They weren't entirely clear, but she could make out what they were saying.
"Have your way with her."
"Sex okay?"
"I don't care, just keep her alive."
Tamara's heart dropped. They were planning to use her.
Panicking, Tamara tried to untie her hands. She wiggled and squirmed, giving herself rope burn.
The door squeaked open again with two men coming inside. They closed the door behind them, locking it in the process.
"Hey, baby. Ready for some fun?" One guy had dark blonde hair. He was untying Tamara's hands.
The other guy had black hair. He pulled out a knife and cut through Tamara's shirt.
"Don't fucking touch me, assholes." Tamara spat.
The blonde man slapped Tamara, "Shut up."
Once Tamara's hands were untied, she went to throw a punch. She hit the blonde man in the face, making his nose bleed.
The black haired man lunged forward, knocking Tamara onto the bed. He sat on top of her, holding her hands down.
The blonde regained his stance. He ripped off Tamara's shirt, throwing it like a ragdoll on the floor. Next, he pulled out his own knife and cut her pants off, leaving Tamara in her bra and panties.
Tamara squirmed and yelled underneath the man holding her down. She started kicking her legs, hitting the blonde in the mouth.
He fell to the floor, groaning in pain. The black haired man let go of Tamara, going to the blonde's side.
Tamara quickly got off the bed, running to the black haired man, kicking him in his side. He fell over, holding his side for dear life.
The blonde got back on his feet, trying to throw punched at Tamara. She dodged the first two, taking a hit at the third.
She quickly regained her stance, lunging at the blonde and grabbing him by the throat. Tamara pushed her nails in his throat, puncturing his neck. Blood started to spill from his throat and mouth as Tamara went deeper in his throat.
The blonde eventually fell unconscious on the floor, leaving the other man to defend for himself.
Tamara look at him as she was making her way to him. He watched her with horror on his face and gripping his side.
Tamara throat punched the man first. Not letting him gasp for air, Tamara shoved her hands in his mouth, gripping his teeth and pulling his jaws apart. The man screamed in agony in her hands. His screams soon got quiet as he lay limp on the floor.
Tamara looked at her surroundings, realizing what had just happened. Tears welled in her black eyes, before spilling like a faucet. Tamara cried in pain and because she was scared.
She sat in front of the bed, curling up and trying to cover her body with her arms and legs. She buried her head in her knees and wept, shaking and sobbing.
Her head shot back up when she heard a gunshot and yelling.
Tamara covered her ears and sobbed, trying to block out the outside noises. She put her head in her knees again.
Without any warning, Tamara felt a very cold hand on her arm. She quickly lifted her head, scared of who it was.
Tord.
He looked worried.
Tamara uncovered her ears, listening to what Tord was saying, "Tam, are you okay? Tamara, answer me."
Tamara just looked at him, tears streaming down her face. Then she remembered that she was practically naked in front of Tord.
"D-Don't look at me!" Tamara put her face in her hands and tried not to sob.
Tord sighed, wiggling his jacket off and placing it around her.
Tamara removed her hands from her face, confused but relieved.
Tord buttoned the front of his jacket, covering Tamara.
"Are you okay? Did anything happen?" He asked again.
Tamara shook her head no, feeling warm from the jacket. Tord helped her on her feet, only grabbing her hands.
Tamara didn't care that she was being touched right now. She was just glad that Tord was there.
Tord used his organic thumb to move hair put of Tamara's face, cupping her cheek after.
"I'm glad you're okay."
Tamara could tell that he meant it. Her face scrunched up and tears poured from her eyes. She quickly hugged Tord, burying her face in his chest.
Tord took her by surprise when she did this. But instead of ruining the moment, he wrapped his arms around her, rubbing her back.
Tamara has never hugged him before. He liked it. She felt small and fragile in his arms, and Tord wanted to protect her.
Tamara felt warmer in Tord's embrace. He squeezed her closer to him, trying to ignore the guns going off in the background.
They pulled away after a few minutes. Tord cupped Tamara's face and wiped a tear running down her cheek, "Alright, Tam. Let's go."

You were alone with your thoughts again. On any other given day you wouldn’t mind the alone time and time you got to think about things. This wasn’t one of them. You thought too deeply about Tony blasting you back and hurting you. Part of you couldn’t blame him, he was hurt and wasn’t thinking straight. But yet, it still happened. Letting a hand wander to your newly healed wound, all you felt was smooth skin. It felt like new. Like nothing punctured it a day before. There wasn’t even a scar.
There was a light tap on the door to the small, little room you occupied. “Y/N,” it was Steve. “Can I come in?”
You dropped your knee from your chest and crossed the room. Opening the door, you let Steve in. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah,” he turned and you noticed he had gotten himself cleaned up and had on fresh clothes. “I just wanted to talk to you.”
“Oh,” was all the left your lips. Your heart began to race as you watched Steve walk to the bed and put his arms on his legs while folding his hands. “Oh,” you repeated again. It was serious.
“I think you should go back home,” Steve said after a moment.
You scoffed and then laughed. “You’ve got to joking…” But the look on Steve’s face told you he wasn’t. “I…I…I can’t Steve. You heard Tony. I don’t have a home anymore.”
Steve stared at you with those blue eyes. His eyebrows were furrowed too. “It’s Tony, Y/N,” He sat up and gestured a hand towards you. “You can talk some sense into him. He can pull strings to get you home. You don’t need to live this life. You’ve done your part.”
You took in a deep breath and walked over to Steve and sat next to him. You put a hand on his leg and looked at him. “You’re right I could, but I can’t. By now my name and face could be on every kind of Top Ten Most Wanted Lists around the world. Even if Tony tried to convince them to not do that.”
Steve nodded. “I guess you’re right. I have something for you,” he reached into this pocket and pulled out a small, black flip phone. You opened your mouth to protest. “Just hear me out.”
“Okay,” you threw your hands up in defeat.
“This could be the last time we see each other for a long time, so,” Steve puts the phone into your hand. It’s so small compared to your giant thin one. Gosh when was the last time you held a flip phone like that? You just knew it was a long time. “If you need anything, my number is there. If you can’t get ahold of me, Tony’s number is there.” He must have seen your confused face. “I sent him a phone with your number and mine in it.”
“Thank you,” you didn’t know what else to say. “Um,” you were quick to change the subject. “How’s Bucky doing?”
After the events in Serbia, T’Challa stopped you guys before boarding the quinjet. He apologized for his part in all that happened. He even offered to take you guys back to his home land, Wakanda, to help with Bucky and yours wounds. Steve jumped onto that and now here you all are.
In Wakanda.
Hidden from the world.
Which gave you an idea.
“Bucky’s doing fine,” Steve stood. “They were able to get the rest of the metal arm off him. I was going to see him after giving you that phone. Do you want to come?”
“Yeah,” you stood up faster than you expected and tripped over your own feet. Steve caught you before you could knock you head on the small table. “I promise I’m fine. What’s her face, Sherrie…no…Shuri, was able to clean out the infection.”
You recalled the moments on the quinjet when you realized something wasn’t right with you. Your wound still hadn’t stopped bleeding and you were becoming dizzy and tired. When you lifted your shirt up to get a better look at your wound, you saw pus and green surrounding the area. The metal that had stabbed through you must have been rusted. You tried to keep yourself together. Steve was flying the quinjet. Bucky was passed out on the ground. Once the quinjet landed, you barely made it off before collapsing to your knees. You remembered Steve rushing to you side before you blacked out.
Steve and you walked the halls towards the lab where Bucky was in. You hadn’t seen him since you passed you and you were somewhat anxious to see him. The first time you encountered Bucky, it was while you were working with SHEILD. Steve had convinced you and Natasha that Hydra was working within SHEILD. Then he shot you and Natasha.
At first you wanted to kill him until Steve told you who he was. Ever since you had a soft spot for the super solider. Seeing him again for the first time at that airport, something fluttered inside you. There was something about him that you got off him as sweet and caring. That’s when you knew he was innocent and your instincts were just about always right.
The two of you entered the lab and saw Bucky sitting on a bed. He was in loose pants and white tank top. A black covering was over what was left of his left arm. Again, you felt that feeling of sadness wash over you. Hydra did a number on him.
“Hey, hows it going?” Steve said as the two of you approached Bucky.
Bucky looked up and you noticed his face looked worn and defeated. The look in his eyes told you he was just completely done. You wanted to reach out and hug him until his blue eyes met with your Y/E/C. Soon, that look of defeat was erased. He gave you a smile with both his lips and eyes. You returned the gesture and felt your cheeks burn.
“I’m doing alright,” Bucky said softly.
“That’s good,” your smile only got bigger.
“How are you? Steve told me that you were hurt and passed out,” there was a hint of concern in Bucky’s voice. It just about made your heart melt.
“Yeah, I’m all good, now.”
Steve cleared his throat and both you and Bucky looked at him. “Buck,” Steve sounded serious. Why was he serious all the time? “Are you sure about this?”
You held up a hand and let the smile on your face fade. “Sure about what?” You asked.
“I’m going back under,” Bucky told you gently. He saw you tilt your head in confusion. “In the cryo.”
“What?” You asked. “You mean back on ice? Why?”
Bucky took in a deep breath. “Until they can figure out how to undo what Hydra did to me, I don’t trust my own mind.”
You furrowed your eyebrows and let a smile confused smile spread over your face. “But Steve and I trust you.”
Bucky look at you. Those blue eyes pierced right through to your heart. You turned to Steve to say something but he just simply shook his head. You turned back to Bucky. “People have gotten arrested and hurt because of me. I have to.”
You straightened your body and put your hands on your hips. “Well then,” you smirked. “I will be here when they thaw you out.”
Bucky looked at Steve and the two shared a smile. “You’re right, she does remind me of Howard.”
You watched as they strapped Bucky into the cryo. Apart of you ached. Another part of you wanted to find the remainder of Hydra and put an end to it all. The sane part of your brain told you to let it go.
When you were sure the Bucky was under, you joined Steve and T’Challa at the window. They were talking.
“You know,” Steve was saying. “Once they know he’s here, they will come for him.”
“Don’t you worry,” T’Challa smiled while looking out into the distance. “We’ll be ready.”
“Me too,” you chimed in. “If that’s okay with you, Your Highness.” You turned to T’Challa.  “I’m also sorry for shocking you with an arrow.”
Steve turned to you. “You’re serious about staying here, are you?”
You smiled. “Like I said, I don’t have a home.”
“Y/N, you can stay here as long as you like,” T’Challa smiled towards you. “You are also forgiven for that arrow too.”
You and Steve walked to the front of the building. Steve said he had to leave an attend to some business. When you asked what it was, Steve just said it was better that you didn’t know. You let it go. Maybe you’ll learn later what Steve was up to.
“You’ll be good here?” Steve asked before boarding the quinjet.
You smiled. “I’ll be fine here. Promise me something though?” Steve stood there with his hands on his hips. “Once a month. Check in. Otherwise I’m leaving this place to find and save your sorry ass.”
Steve broke into a smile. “I will hold you to that and I promise.”
You found yourself throwing your arms around Steve. “Please don’t die, I miss you too much already.”
“I’ll miss you too.”
You watched as one of your longest and oldest friends walk away and onto the stolen aircraft. Your heart ached some because you knew deep down that this was the last time you were gong to see him for a really long time. You recalled all the good times you had with him to the moments where you had each others backs.
You turned to see T’Challa standing there with his hands behind his back. A very unreadable look on his face. “Your Highness,” you crossed your arms. “Where do we begin?”
T’Challa cracked a smile and motioned you to follow him. “First, I will have Okoye show you to you living quarters. Then,” he placed a firm hand on your shoulder. “We will talk about Mister Barnes recovery process.”
“Perfect.”
And for the time being it was perfect.

The Ties That Bind Us - Part Nine
Summary: When your past comes back to haunt you, who will prevail? Hunting had been your life since you were 4 years old.  The monsters that started you on that path were resurfacing, and you knew what you had to do.  But nothing is ever truly secret, and nothing is ever that cut and dry with the Winchester’s in tow.
A/N: This is a new one that is coming from a few requests. I’m not going to post the actual requests because…well because it would spoil the story line and I’m pretty into this one.
Words: 2671
Warnings: Violent imagery, traumatic experience, death of family members, blood and gore, language

Tumblr media
I lay as still as I could in my bed, not allowing myself to make eye contact with him.  I knew that if I did, tears would flow and he would pull words from me that I wasn’t ready to say.
“Y/N,” he prodded.  “I know there’s something you’re not telling me. Come on.”  His words overflowed with irritation and his body was tense.  “Just spit it out!”  His words came out gravely and a few octaves lower than his normal voice. I had heard him this irate before, but never with me.
“No,” I said, my lips tight as I wrapped my arms around myself.  I turned my face towards him, taking in his wide eyes and his gaping mouth as he stared at me in disbelief.
“No? What do you mean, no? No isn’t an option here, Y/N.”
I ran my fingers through my hair, making a mental note to shower as soon as possible.  “I can’t.  Don’t ask me to.”  I pulled my knees into myself, ignoring the twinge of pain it caused as my muscles stretched.
“Too bad,” he decreed, his voice full of imagined authority.  “You’ve gotten us here by keeping secrets.  By going it alone.  That isn’t an option anymore.  Just…” His tone softened as he took a breath.  “Tell me, please.  Tell me what’s going on.”
I inhaled deeply, feeling my chest expand as I attempted to calm myself down.  Dean hadn’t known about my past.  Not one detail about my family or the monsters that took them from me. Just that I had grown up in the life. Everything in me wanted to keep it that way, but knowing the insistence on his face, I knew I had to give him something.
“They were the ones that killed my parents.”  I began, watching him tilt his head like a confused puppy.  “The pack.  The wolves we came here for.”  I took another deep breath in through my nose in another futile attempt to keep myself calmer than I ever could be. “We were at a museum that day.  Some anatomy thing where you could climb through a heart like a jungle gym.  Spent the whole day there.  But, on the way home, the tire blew out or something.  Car broke down.”
I swallowed hard now, desperate to stop reliving my worst nightmare.  “Dad got out to check it out.  Told my mom to stay put.  It was some backwoods road. There weren’t any streetlamps and the nearest gas station or house was miles away. The car phone had died on the way to the museum that morning and cell phones weren’t really a thing back then.”
I watched as Dean shook his head, absorbing every word I’d just said.
“Wait, how long ago was this?”
I attempted to rid myself of the giant lump that had now formed in my throat.  “I was four.”
The look of pity on his face was heartbreaking and I had never imagined it would ever be aimed at me.
“Dad was outside maybe five minutes when we heard it.  Gnashing teeth and ripping flesh.  And this gurgling sound.  Like a clogged waterfall.” I rubbed my neck with my hand, wishing the conversation was over.  “Mom got out to help.  But she hadn’t even closed the passenger door when her head was smashed through the window. Hard enough for the blood to spray onto me in the backseat.”
“Shit, Y/N.”
I shook my head, dismissively. “I was four,” I shrugged.  “I didn’t even know to scream.  I just waited for it to get quiet and went and looked for my parents.”  I reached out and grabbed the cup of water that sat on my bedside table, taking a slow sip.  “Dad’s body was still on the ground by the hood.  The gurgling sound was still there.”  I looked up at Dean again.  “It was his own blood.  They’d ripped his throat open.  Too impatient or hungry I guess.  But Dad’s eyes were open.  Completely dead inside, but open, starring at me, while his corpse finished bleeding out.”
“You don’t have to-“ I cut Dean off.
“Mom was a little further away.  Her, they were quick about at least.  Snapped her neck when they bashed her head in I guess.  Still ripped her heart out though.  Left her body on the side of the road.”
Dean stood up and took a seat on the sliver of mattress that my bent legs had left exposed at the foot of it.  His hands were running up and down my thighs in an attempt to soothe me.
“What happened to you after that?”
I shrugged my shoulders again.  “I wandered for a while.  The pack was long gone, and I didn’t know where we were. What to do.  Just walked.  Until I couldn’t walk anymore.”
“Wait, you walked? Like little four-year-old you, wandering the woods alone?  How long?”
I pulled on my earlobe, yanking it between my thumb and forefinger.  “Few days I guess?  Some locals found me passed out and starving little less than a week later.” I laughed morbidly at myself.  “If I had walked ten more yards, I’d have made it to their front door.  Just my luck I guess.”
Dean’s silence filled the room as he clenched his fingers around my knees. “I shouldn’t have made you….I’m sorry.”  I turned my head from side to side, dismissively.
“Not your fault.  I probably should’ve told you a while ago.” I gave him a forced smile, restraining the tears that threated to get loose.
“Well, whatever the past, you ganked ‘em in the end.  Not that I approve of how you did it, but you got them.”
“Yeah,” I whispered.  “Sweet victory.”  My tone was insincere as I leaned the side of my face against my crossed arms.  “Dean, I’m pretty beat.”
“Yeah, of course,” he accepted.  “Get some sleep.  I’ll just head-“
“Don’t leave,” I begged, grabbing at his hands as they began to move away from me.  “Please. Stay?  I’d feel better if you stayed.”  I hadn’t realized how terrified the premise of being alone would leave me.  “I mean, only if you want to.”
Dean ran his fingers over my face, tucking in a stray bit of hair. “Always,” he whispered.
I moved to lay down, turning myself onto my side to make room as Dean spread himself over the bed. “Need me to scootch over?”
He looked at me as if I were crazy.  “It’s your bed, Y/N. And you’re the injured one.  I’m not that big of an ass.” He tucked me into his side, resting his hand on my shoulder as his arm would around me.  “Sleep.”
I shut my eyes slowly, taking in a deep breath and filling my lungs with the distinct scent of Dean. But as soon as I began to drift off, the sing-song voice of a nurse came in declaring that moment to be the opportune time to check my vitals.
I whined in response as she pressed a button on one of the screens resulting in the cuff around my arm to start squeezing.  “Can we be done with that?”
Dean had gotten out of the bed but stood just next to me, continuing to hold my hand.
“Sorry sweetie,” the nurse answered.  “Every four hours until you’re discharged.”
“Then I’m discharged now.” I answered coldly, my eyes squinting shut.
“Not funny,” Dean chastised, squeezing my fingers tightly.
“Not joking,” I followed up. “I want to go home.  Now.”
I looked over to the nurse whose stunned expression told me she would not be on my team on this one.
“I mean it.  I’ll sign whatever papers I need to, do whatever. But I’m going home. Now.”
Releasing Dean’s hand, I threw back the covers and kicked my legs off the side of the bed, quicker than I had intended.  The dizziness had me wobbling as I stood, getting onto my feet.  Instantly, he was at my side reaching to help steady me.  I held my hand up, keeping him at a distance.
“Damnit, Y/N.”  Dean muttered under his breath but just loud enough for me to hear him.  I glared at him in response.
“Leaving against medical advice is not usually a good solution.  Especially in your condition.  You’re going to need physical therapy and a lot of care.  We can provide that for you.”  The nurse was doing her best to convince me to stay, but with my mind already made up, I began opening cabinets until I found the bag with my clothes in it.  One of the boys had brought my duffle to the room for me and I quickly found a set of clothing that was clean enough.
“I get it,” I snapped back. “Not a good idea.  I’m leaving against medical advice which is obviously against medical advice.”  The frustration in my voice was tangible as I slipped a pair of black yoga pants out of the bag and began dragging them up my legs.  “Doesn’t change the fact that it’s what I’m doing.”
The nurse breezed passed me as she muttered under her breath that she’d get the paperwork.  I pulled out my oversized nightshirt; an old white band tee for a concert that I hadn’t attended in a city that I’d most likely never been to.  But it smelled like home and wrapped me in the warmth that I so desperately craved.
“Hold this for me, will you?”  I held my duffle bag out towards Dean, expecting him to grab it but was left wanting.  Slowly, I raised my eyes to his and lifted my eyebrows, inclining my head as if to ask him what he was waiting for.
“You realize this is insane right?  What, do you have a death wish or something?”  I rolled my eyes at him in response, tossing the bag to the ground as I let go of the straps I had been holding onto and turned my attention back to the cabinets, ensuring all of my personal items were accounted for.
“I think that’s everything. I’ll sign the papers, and then we go, yeah?”
Dean chuckled louder than I was used to as he shook his head and said, “No way.”  I looked at him expectantly, resolute with my decision.
His amusement died down and his face grew serious as he wordlessly pulled out his phone and brought it to his ear.
“Yeah, it’s me.  Look, she’s trying to leave the hospital. Yeah,” he paused. “I know.  She’s being a stubborn ass.”  He said the words pointedly as he glared at me.  “Well then, Sammy, you try to talk some sense into her cause she’s not listening to anybody over here!”
Rolling my eyes again, I began removing the various tubes and monitors that still connected me to the machines.  The oxygen came off without a hitch, and the blood pressure cuff was simple enough.  But the IV that was plastered to the back of my hand proved more difficult.
“I’ll do it,” the nurse sighed angrily as she stormed back into the room, setting a small stack of paperwork down on the table as she did so.  Her fingers expertly pulled at the tape and removed the needle from my hand without a fuss.  “You’re going to need a ton of fluids,” she began giving me my discharge instructions as she handed the paperwork over to me.
Dean hung up the phone and began listening intently, hovering over me as he did so.
“I mean a ton of fluids. No coffee, tea, soda.  I mean water.  Electrolytes.  Fluids that aren’t caffeinated or carbonated.  There’re four prescriptions in her.  One for a very strong antibiotic, one for an anti-inflammatory drug, strong pain meds, and one to help with the nausea that the others may cause.”  She pointed out each on the paperwork as she went through it.  “Take them. All of them.”  Her intense gaze and stern tone let me know she wasn’t exaggerating.  I nodded affirmatively.
“Good,” she responded. “Bed rest for the next few days.  No strenuous movements,” she turned her gaze to Dean then. “If she pops another staple outside of the hospital, her chances of infection or bleeding out again are very, very high.”  He nodded in acceptance.
“You need to do physical therapy.  Hire a therapist, do simple exercise, use a cane, whatever you need to do.  Just keep moving a little each day.”
She turned to the last page. “This form releases the hospital from any and all liability.  It confirms that you’re aware that you’re leaving the hospital against the best of medical information and against the physician’s wishes.  You’ve every right to do so but, just so we’re clear, we think this is a very bad idea.”
I gave her a small smile. “Yes ma’am, I am.”  I picked up the pen that was laying on the table where the paperwork had been and signed my name quickly.  “All done?”
The nurse shook her head disapprovingly.  “That’s all the paperwork and you’ve already taken the liberty of disconnecting everything. I’ll go get a wheelchair and you can be on your way.”
I thanked her as she walked out of the room and could feel Dean’s eyes boring into the side of my face.
“What?” I snapped, turning my head quickly to look at him.
“You’re an idiot.”
“So, I’ve been told. But there’s that whole thing about it takes one to know one.”  I smiled at him wickedly as I waited for the nurse to return with the wheelchair.  It only took a few minutes, and I was settled into my wheeled escort, being pushed gently through the halls towards the exit.
“Sir,” the nurse spoke up, gesturing to Dean. “You may want to run ahead and pull the car around, so she doesn’t have to wait outside long.  It gets pretty chilly a night.”  Dean did as he was asked, putting one foot in front of the other in a quick jog as his bowed legs carried him ahead and out to the parking lot.
“You’ll be the death of that boy if you keep carrying on like this you know,” the nurse joked.  “Or he’ll be the death of you.  Either way, just be careful, yeah?”  She rested her hand on my shoulder as I laughed, giving her my word.
I heard the familiar growl of the Impala’s engine pull up just outside the door as we triggered the auto sensor for the automatic sliding doors. Dean was running around the back and pulling the passenger side door open when we rolled up.  The nurse locked the wheels of the chair in place as I slowly pushed myself up to standing, using Dean’s offered arm as leverage to assist me.
The nurse handed him my folder full of paperwork which he then securely held in his hand.  “If I could get her to stay,” he began. The nurse shrugged in a what-are-you-gonna-do fashion and waved at me.  I lazily returned the goodbye as I rested my head back in my seat and reached for my seat belt. Before I could grasp it, Dean’s hand was pulling the belt across my lap, gingerly tucking it into the buckle and adjusting the belt across my lap, avoiding my injury as best as he could.
Shaking his head lightly, he slowly leaned his face towards mine, capturing my lips with his own as they worked against me.  The heat of his mouth breathed into my own as his tongue grazed the tip of mine, and the breathtaking feel of his soft, full lips against mine was dizzying. He pulled away slowly, pressing one last chaste kiss against my lips as he did.
“Keep kissing me like that, and we’re going to need to pick up one of those oxygen tanks,” I joked.
“Stubborn. Ass.”  He breathed out the accusation as he closed my door for me and walked around to the driver’s side and taking his seat.
To be continued….
