The results are in, and Aiko will be representing Czechia this year with Pedestal! Personally, I’m not too enthused with this result. Even as a studio cut, I wasn’t overly impressed by Pedestal as a song. The pop rock sound is kind of up my street, and I like the overall energy, but it’s also nothing I haven’t heard before. The chanting chorus doesn’t work for me, even recorded it sounds shouty, and live it was really rough. Aiko really needs to work on her breath control before May, but that wasn’t the only thing going wrong with her performance vocally. Changing the choreography would definitely help, personally I think they should just scrap everything from the ESCZ performance and rework staging from the ground up at Eurovision. You can’t rule anything out, especially this early in the season, but if Aiko delivers a performance anything like the one we saw last week, Czechia will really struggle to qualify.
It was a shame to see such a huge gap between the international and Czech votes. Unless I feel particularly strongly about the song, I prefer it when the artist who wins the local vote wins overall, and between the two I liked Elly’s song more, although I wasn’t all that fussed by either. Maybe Pedestal will grow on me over the coming months, but I’m not expecting much.

Chapter Fifteen: The One Where There Might be a Future
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 3247
Lily didn't like the effect Bucky had on her sometimes. She wasn't sure if it was the way he was so good with Hunter, or how he was always so gentle with her. Or maybe it's whenever the two were alone he looked at her like she was the only girl in the world. Or perhaps it was the way his hands always lingered places for a second too long to go unnoticed. She couldn't place it. But if anyone asked how she felt about the boy, she brushed it off. They were simply friends. Nothing more. The kiss they shared in the kitchen didn't get spoken about, and the two never felt a shred of awkwardness over the following few weeks.
But it didn't help that his lingering looks and her soft touches didn't go unnoticed by those around them for very long. Lily had found herself living every teenage girl’s dream. She became friends with the freaking Avengers. It didn't help that her sister had begun to get all friendly with Mr. Sam Wilson, either. She wasn't sure if it was because of her lack of love from her ex, or the need for a rebound. But Lily would be there to support her along the way, no matter what form her heartbreak and hormones took.
And although things were great in Lily's social department, the legality of her divorce had become messy. It had been a month since the incident where Cedar supposedly attempted to break into her ex-husband’s house, leaving Lily with the entire month of October being filled with legal battles and a complete rewrite of the separation agreement. All while the police continued to question her younger brother. She wanted to keep that part of the issue secret from Hunter, for the little boy looked up to his uncle as though he were one of the superheroes on the boy’s wall. And Lily did truly believe her brother was not behind this, that something must have happened to him. She knew Cedar, he wouldn't have done this.
However, to distract herself, Lily decided to hand-make her and Hunter's costume for the holiday quickly approaching. As well as busying herself with shopping for Hunter's birthday, which was just a week after Halloween. however, in proper Rose and Gen fashion, they had other plans for the candy-filled day.
"I am not going to a Halloween party with the Avengers!" Lily exclaimed as she spun around from her sewing machine, arms crossed, "And I am not matching with Bucky."
"Come on Lily!" Rose whined, grabbing her sister’s hand, "You've been stressed to the high heavens all month! With finally being granted full custody, as well as this Cedar thing? You deserve to go out and have some fun."
"And Bucky tells us he's had to make you dinner every night when he comes over. And don't act surprised that we know- you send Rose out every Thursday and Saturday. We're not stupid." Gen countered, raising her finger to Lily.
"He talks too much," Lily mumbled, "But I wouldn't be able to anyway! Hunter and I have traditions to keep up. We match costumes, then go out trick or treating, then come home, watch Halloweentown and then go to bed." she stated, stealing her hand back from her sister, "plus Rose, you're pregnant!"
Lily furrowed her eyebrows as she watched her sister and best friend share a look. One that the mother knew all too well. They had planned something. And what that was? Well, Lily didn't know. All she knew is that she wouldn't like it. She never enjoyed their plans. The last time she went through with one, she ended up racing home and having to take her husband to court because of the neglect of their child. Plus, she'd much prefer to stay home and spend time with her son. After the month she had, she just wanted a night in with the two of them.
"We figured you'd say no..." Rose began, flicking her hazel eyes to Gen.
"...So we came up with a backup plan. That was actually, Hunter's idea." Gen smiled softly, offering her hand to her best friend, "Come with us and he'll explain."
Lily cocked her eyebrow at the two of them. Standing, the blonde laced her hand into Gen's and was soon led out into her own living room where Hunter sat on the floor with Joey watching national geographic. Lily smiled softly at the boy before she was essentially forced into sitting on their sofa, with both Rose and Gen coaxing Hunter to explain whatever they had decided to try and convince Lily on.
"Mum, what if Mr. Barnes joined us for Halloween this year?" the boy commented, turning off the television and turning towards his mother.
Lily was taken aback by her son’s bold offer. Glancing back and forth at the two women on either side of her, only to be greeted with raised hands of innocence. Moving onto the floor, Lily took her son’s hands into her own, searching his face for any sort of blackmail being used by the two girls behind her. But he seemed genuine. She knew this because there was a rosy hue to his cheeks, meaning he was even embarrassed to ask her something like that.
"Are you sure, Hunt? It's always just been us on Halloween." Lily hummed, running a thumb across the boy’s cheek.
"Mum if I didn't want to I wouldn't have asked. I like Mr. Barnes. He's fun." Hunter stated simply, tilting his head into his mother’s touch.
"If that's what you want buddy, then sure. We can have Bucky here for Halloween." Lily agreed, ruffling the boy’s hair before standing up and turning towards her sister and best friend, "I'm guessing you already asked him?"
When the two gave energetic nods, the young mother shook her head with a laugh, making her way back out towards her office to finish the costumes.
-----
Lily still lived in the real world. And held a full-time job. As did Rose and Gen. Which meant, there was no one to watch Hunter on the actual day of Halloween while Lily worked. well, that's what she thought at first. But of course, who were Rose and Gen to let anything peaceful happen in the life of their best friend and sister. Though Lily was far from bold enough to make such a request, she didn't have much of a choice. Plus, he was already spending the evening with them. Lily still hadn't enough trust in babysitters, despite having a plethora of neighbours whom she did trust...she just trusted him a bit more.
"Thank you for coming on short notice." the blonde sighed softly as she opened up the door to her house, "Gen has a meeting today and Rose is in upper manhattan, so neither were available."
"It's no issue, Lily," Bucky's gruff morning tone cooed as he took a step into the house, "I like the kid, no stress. Sam and Steve may swing by around noon, mind if I bring Hunt with us out for some lunch?"
"That would be amazing, Buck." she hummed, not even giving the nickname a second thought, though her cheeks did subconsciously heat up, "Here." the blonde smiled, digging her hands into her purse, only to have his flesh hand rest on the arm of her thin white cardigan.
"No need. It's my treat." the man smiled, his hand lingering across her wrist before he pulled it away.
The way that he looked at her made Lily's heart skip a beat. His steel-blue eyes pouring into the mossy green of her own. All of the air in the foyer seemed to be sucked out, as though the world paused around her. Neither moved, and the world melted away. It was Hunter who had managed to snap the two out of it. The sound of a glass breaking against hardwood made Lily jump, her hand resting above the pale purple scrubs she wore, gripping her name tag.
Glancing at her watch, Lily sighed, dropping her bag, "I'll go clean that up then head to wo- "
"Let me." Bucky hummed, picking the woman's bag back up, "You head into work. I'll take care of the kid and the mess, I promise."
With one more glance towards the kitchen, Lily nodded slowly before bidding her goodbyes. When she got into the car in her driveway, the blonde let out a deep sigh. Her eyes glanced up to the door of the place she called home for a few years now. She spotted Bucky and Hunter standing in the doorframe, Hunter still in his pyjamas with a new cup of orange juice in his hand. Bucky's hand placed securely on the boy’s shoulder. The picture warmed Lily's heart, and she found her mind wandering ever so slightly.
The same scene, but with Lily standing there. A baby in her arms as Bucky placed a kiss on her temple. Hunter, aged up a few years with Joey by his side. But this image found itself framed, upon the wall of a different home.
Chiding herself, Lily shook her head, reversing from out front of the home. Away from the moment that made her heart swell.
-----
Another day, Another pay. Don't be mistaken, Lily loved her job. She adored being able to spend the day with children and make them feel better. But today was a rough one. Lily had a patient come in with severe symptoms. It broke Lily's heart. He looked around the same age as her son, and that was what she always found most difficult. Seeing the children that were experiencing the same sort of year as her son. Just turning twelve or not even quite there yet. It broke her heart, really.
Pushing the door open to her quaint home, Lily perked an eyebrow up at the smell of something sweet. That of a certain morning breakfast that seemed to be a reoccurring theme in the most recent months of Lily's life. A small smile spread across her lips as she placed her work bag down onto the front bench, kicking off her shoes before passing the stairs and through the hall back to the kitchen where she ducked around the corner, leaning on the wall.
"Well now what do we have here?" she chuckled, catching the two boy's attention.
Sliding her phone from her pocket, the blonde snapped a photo of the mess of a kitchen the two had made. Both had flour on their face, and the mother of the younger boy giggled. The number of blueberries that were on the floor, or should she say, making their way into Joey's stomach, was more than she saw in the bit of batter the two had made.
"We wanted to surprise you." Hunter grinned brightly, lifting his hands in a stance of innocence, "It was Bucky's idea!"
"Hey-! Way to through me under the bus buddy." the taller man laughed, hands dropping to tickle at the blonde boy's sides.
Lily shook her head with a hearty chuckle escaping her lips. Running a hand through her golden strands, the young mom sauntered forward and pressed a kiss to Hunter's head, before giving Bucky a soft glance. Shrugging off her cardigan, the doctor sent a teasing eyebrow raise to the two boys. Tossing the piece of fabric across one of the chairs at the table, the blonde shooed both away from the counter.
"Before you blow up my kitchen," she quipped, "Allow me to take over."
One brand new batch of batter and a new pack of blueberries later, Lily placed a large stack of fluffy pancakes atop the refurnished birch table that Bucky and Hunter sat at. Placing her hands on her waist, Lily merely smirked and shrugged the entire event off as though it were nothing. The main thing that made her happy on the inside, however, was watching the two dig into the golden brown delicacies she had made moments ago.
"Sit and eat, Lil. They're amazing," said Bucky, a mouthful of blueberry pancake muffling most of his words.
"Alright alright. Then we have to get ready to go out. don't want it to be too dark." Lily chuckled, pulling out a chair next to Bucky.
With dishes and the kitchen cleaned, the trio found themselves all dressed and ready to go for the Halloween festivities taking place outside of the home. Kids were already knocking on doors and stuffing their faces with candy. While Hunter was still trying to get the bandana we wore to properly stay on his head, or actually tie it. Hunter and Lily had already planned on taking on Halloween dressed as pirates, and Bucky just happened to have the proper rugged look for it.
Lily herself, well she wore quite the getup. The ripped fabric of white, burgundy, and plaid making up a skirt that hugged her waist. A white peasant blouse that hugged off of her shoulders sat underneath a black leather corset vest that dipped just below her chest. A pirate hat with gold trim and a peacock feather sat atop gentle blonde curls. Suede boots hit just below her knee with fishnet tights underneath. Bucky wore a fairly standard get-up, simple black pants with a loose cream-coloured top underneath a suede vest and taller boots.
"Mum I can't get my bandana tied!" Hunter sighed, dropping his hands against his own dark pants, "Can you do it?"
Lily grinned and made her way over to the boy, doing up the piece of fabric before handing him a pillowcase for the candy he'd be collecting. Turning to glance over her shoulder, the blonde caught the eyes of Bucky. His eyes were already glued to her, and the way they moved up and down her made a bright red flush fill the girl’s pale cheeks. She pursed her lips and let her hands fall to Hunter's shoulders, her eyes unwavering from those cool blue ones of Buckys.
"If you two are done staring into each other’s eyes," Hunter quipped, "I have candy to collect."
"Hunter!" Lily exclaimed, looking down at her boy.
"Yeah doll," Bucky winked, "Keep focused. The kid's gotta get his candy."
Lily watched in shock as the two walked out the door, leaving the blonde dumbfounded as she hooked Joey's leash onto his collar. Rolling her eyes, the blonde followed behind, shaking her head until she caught up to the two.
-----
"I didn't mean to make the kid freak out!" Bucky laughed as the three re-entered the house, "It's not like I'm in a mask! Plus the arm doesn't help give away who I am."
"Oh, please you totally knew he recognized you!" Lily retorted, unhooking Joey, "You kept rolling your sleeve up whenever we saw him!"
"I'm with mom on this one." Hunter commented, dumping the large stash of candy he had collected into the middle of the living room floor, "I think you liked seeing Kellin dressed as you, Bucky." he chuckled, sorting through the pile.
"Well obviously!" the man chuckled, sliding his vest off, "I think what shocked me most was the number of people dressed up like Sam. We can keep the information here. It'll only make his head inflate even more."
The trio continued the night, laughing, eating candy, and watching the iconic Halloweentown. At around ten-thirty, Lily put the young boy to bed, leaving her alone with the ex-assassin that was sitting in her living room. Which she didn't mind, she'd begun to see yet another new side to Bucky. One that made her realize just how much the man yearned for the security and domesticity of a family. And how Lily wished to give that to him. To lay that troubled mind of his to rest at last, and allow him the peace and tranquillity of a modern day family. And for a while, she believed the two had that. That night. He now changed into a t-shirt and sweats he had left at the house last time, Lily in a pair of baby blue plaid pyjama pants and an oversized white sweater. Both sipping lightly on coffee while they sat across from one another, legs touching.
"You've got something good going here, doll." the man hummed, eyes averting towards the fire at the other side of the room, "Back in the ‘40s this is something I believed I'd have one day."
Lily watched the man with a soft expression. The way his eyes seemed to cloud with troubles when he began talking. It broke her heart, knowing that this sweet and gentle man had been through more than Lily could ever fathom. He had murders attached to his name, yet he petted Joey like he would break the dog, and acted as though Hunter was the most precious thing in the world. And when he would touch Lily, her hand, her wrist, it was though she were made of glass. He was sensitive, and Lily's heart grew ten sizes whenever she saw him allow his guard down, even for a split second. Allowing her to peak into that complex mind of his.
"Why can't you have it now?" Lily questioned, "Find a nice girl. Settle down somewhere quiet. Have a family. Why is it so different now?"
The man turned his attention back to that of the woman sat beside him, "That wouldn't be fair to them. The kids...if I had them. The past I have would follow them everywhere, they'd learn about what I did in class. I was a monster, Lily."
Setting her mug to the side, Lily moved a bit closer to the taller man. She took his coffee from his hands and placed it to the side. She wasn't sure what came over her. Her mind believed it to be that of her having such a lovely night with him. Watching him with Hunter. Seeing the way he would look at her. She wasn't sure. She just knew he felt something back towards her. Maybe the kiss they shared was what drove her, but she just knew this was her window.
So she took his face in her hands, "Buck you had no choice. And now? You're one of the most loved heroes. You beat the darkness. I give stickers out of you at work now!" she chuckled, running a careful thumb across his jawline, "I know if I was the girl you settled with, there would be no fear of having a family."
Bucky looked at the girl with a tender look in his steel eyes. His hand reached up and tucked a stray hair of blonde hair behind her ear, moving forward. The air in the room grew thick and a sense of anxiety washed over Lily. She watched intently as he continued his advance forward. Before she could comprehend it, the two shared their second kiss. This one was different though. There was something new behind it. Lily couldn't put her finger on it. But they didn't break apart, no, they moulded together and paused for air every so often. Lily tangled her fingers in the man’s long brown hair, tugging gently.
But a knock at the door interrupted them.
"We'll talk about what you said tomorrow, okay doll?" Bucky cooed, running a thumb across the girl’s cheekbone, "You stay here. I'll grab the door."
Well, that was how Bucky Barnes met Lily Osborne's parents.

FAKE HAPPY | A SasuSaku FanFic One Shot
So I recorded a cover for Paramore's "Fake Happy" (full vid here) last week and since my initial plan for #SasuSakuTwitFest2020's Day 2 is not yet finished, I thought of writing this fic connected to the song instead😬
For #SasuSakuTwitFest2020 Day 2: Connected
"You see it's easy when I'm stomping on a beat
But no one sees me when I crawl back underneath."
-Fake Happy by Paramore
Disclaimers:
-I do not own Naruto nor Paramore.
-Situations stated are based on general possible experiences of some people especially during this time, though most are familiar and personal to me also.
Trigger warnings: Anxiety Attack. Depressive thoughts.
Ending in angst is not my purpose for this, it's actually the other way around❤️ but if you think it would not be helpful for you to continue reading this fic at this time due to the trigger warning, it's definitely okay.
However, please do NOT miss the author's note in the end🤗
Much love,
A
P.S. Here's to the #FewButTrue people that see the signs and reach out to us at just the right time even though we look fine on the outside.
––
It was supposedly her rest day, the one thing that she has looked forward to all throughout her jam packed week. Yet much to her dismay, despite her body being rested, her mind had other plans. Sakura could barely remember the number of times she has thrown her phone on the bed in a span of four hours.
It was a lot to take in.
Earlier today, it was announced that the number of positive cases for the pandemic has skyrocketed in Iwa, yet the council has decided to partly lift the quarantine there, increasing the people’s exposure to the virus as they try to go back to their normal lives before all these. It didn’t make sense.
Few moments later, a short video went viral on Twitter, wherein civilians from Ame flocked in front of their Kage’s Tower to complain about the lack of relief goods distributed for them in the past month. A month! To think that all of the Hidden Villages had been under quarantine for three months now and there were so many people in dire need of supply for their basic needs. It didn’t make sense.
There was also a reliable national media company that was shut down by Kiri’s council, at such a time as this wherein a credible source of news and updates was a need for everyone. Sadly, many employees have lost their job in the process, amidst the uncertainty caused by the pandemic which was the main issue their council should’ve focused on to begin with. Again, it didn’t make sense.
What surprised her was the amount of facebook posts that disclosed irrational killings from members of a huge clan in the Sound, an issue that has been ongoing yet remained an elephant in the room for how many years. It broke her heart seeing the messages of relatives who were screaming for the justice of their murdered family member through typewritten words. Others even had videos of themselves with placards containing their stand on the issue. She couldn’t imagine how terrifying it must be to be there right now, what with the virus still lingering around them and the possibility of being shot on the spot just because you wanted to fight for your people. The Sound’s council continued to wash their hands. And yes, it didn’t make any sense at all.
But the last thing that struck her nerve was the decree that Konoha’s council of elders has released a few minutes ago, wherein any form of appeal or complaint by the people – whether via peaceful protest or a mere social media post – could lead to them being suspected as insurgents, which would then result to authorities having the right to detain them without a warrant of arrest.
And just like that, the fact that the entire world was facing a deadly pandemic has gone down the drain. Honestly? Sakura didn’t even know what else makes sense right now.
She screamed against her pillow and continued lying on her bed. Her head hurt. Her eyes were puffy. Her heart was palpitating. And her hands began to shake as she breathed heavily in the confines of her bedroom.
There were pain, frustration, anxiety, fear, anger, guilt, confusion, and so many other emotions bubbling inside her that they started to weigh her down even physically. Besides, it wasn't the first time that Sakura broke down during the twelfth week of quarantine. Everything externally and internally was just too much to bear these days.
She thought it would be nice to return to social media after being away from it for a week, leaving her stuck with the messaging apps that she kept active only because she needed them for work. But she was totally wrong on all levels.
It was nice that she became informed about the latest news, yet she now learned that indeed, too much exposure on social media wasn't helpful for her at all. She needed to take a break, or maybe lots of them.
It took a while before the tension in her body ebbed, and when it did, it was the best feeling in the world.
Still, extensive exhaustion filled Sakura from the inside out, leaving her with no more tears to shed as she sat up after a 14-minute nap. These days, naps kept her going, though they weren't really enough. She was glad the rampage in her brain paused somehow but she wished it could've been like that for hours. Well, it's better than not being able to sleep at all.
Moments later, her eyes widened due to the sudden vibration of her phone. There was an incoming message. And she couldn't help but feel on edge once more as she felt frozen in place.
Please don't let it be my boss. Please don't let it be about my presentation! Or wait, is it mom? Are they okay?
Sure, she could've stopped herself from getting her phone with her now sweaty hands and checking the SMS considering that it was her rest day, but the nagging guilt inside her about saying no to anything asked of her overpowered her senses. And there was also the thought that it could be an emergency, she didn't want anything to fail just because she didn't respond immediately.
With her decision being final, Sakura took three deep breaths before opening the text that she received, yet what she saw on her screen made fresh tears trickle down her face once again.
Sasuke Uchiha:
I'm just here, okay? Let me know if you want me to call you.
Sakura didn’t expect to receive such a heartwarming message at the exact moment she needed it. She hasn’t seen Sasuke ever since Konoha imposed a nationwide quarantine and they haven’t even talked online for weeks, but for him to suddenly message her with such reassurance as if he knew that she needed to hear it, it made her feel like they had no distance between them for months.
She read the message once more, and as she parsed the two sentences like it’s from a language unfamiliar to her, it slowly felt like the dark cloud above her head began dissipating somehow.
A part of her hesitated in responding to him. She didn’t want to sound needy. She didn’t want to be a bother, because for sure, Sasuke also has baggage of his own.
However, she realized that he was not the kind who would ever think of her that way. Never did he look at her with judgmental eyes, only with concerned ones. And that was enough for her to trust that it wasn’t something to be guilty about if she accepted his generous offer of being a listening ear that night.
Sakura didn’t bother typing a message anymore, instead, she scrolled through her contacts and called his number, fingers slightly twitching in nervousness. Because what if he's suddenly busy? What if he's not really interested in what she would say? And what if he would change his mindset about her after whatever she'd be able to share to him tonight?
Her mind was bombarded with tons of "what ifs," but when she heard a gentle "Hello?" on the other line, she was unable to stifle another cry.
"Sakura, how are—?"
Her sobs became a little louder, and she was worried that Sasuke would end up cutting the call.
"It's alright, Sakura. Go on, just release that. I'll stay here."
Yet he surprised her again. She didn't know how many minutes passed by as she just teared up with Sasuke silent on the other line. As her cries kept going, relief slowly entered her system like it was something she had never frlt before. She didn't know she needed to cry with somebody until she called Sasuke. She realized that it was so much different than when she was having a breakdown on her own.
"Are you feeling better somehow?" Sasuke asked when her muffled cries subsided.
"Y-yes. I guess."
"You know you can tell me anything."
She heaved a sigh, nodding her head as if Sasuke would see her. "Thank you, Sasuke."
"Don't thank me yet. What happened?"
And then Sakura told him everything, from the terrifying news that astounded her that afternoon up to the messy details of her hectic week.
She told him about how worried she was for her parents who were in the province, wherein the number of those affected by the virus was increasing day by day. And as much as she wanted to help them with their food supply, she felt helpless that she couldn't do much while she was here in the city.
She also told him about how she felt like she was merely moving in a tiny box instead of flourishing in her profession, how it seemed like she was going nowhere in life despite being at the ripe age of 27.
She mentioned regarding her presentation that she wasn't really happy about, because it wasn't something that she wanted to do. And even though she tried her best in working on it, she already knew that her boss would not even recommend it to be approved.
Speaking of her boss, she also expressed to Sasuke how the mere presence of her boss made her feel so small, like she was a physical representation of a failure. And just thinking about having no choice but to stay in that company, especially considering the pandemic situation, saps her of the little motivation in life that she has left.
Sakura still had a lot to say. But even she could not express and understand them yet. So she just ended her words with the truth that she has never felt so alone until right now.
That's when Sasuke spoke a full statement again other than his cues that he was listening earlier. "I'm so sorry that you are going through all these, Sakura. You're right, things could've been better so you didn't have to end up feeling the way you do right now. But you know that I'm here, right? And it's not even just me. The dobe is there. Also the rest of Rookie 12. Sakura, it may not feel like it but I want you to remember that I'm here. I never left and I never will."
Another stray tear escaped Sakura's eyes. "That means so much to me, Sasuke. That means so much. Thank you."
"Always." She could hear the smile in his voice. "I'm glad you were able to share all that with me. I hope it was helpful."
For the first time that day, Sakura found the urge to smile. "It was, really. I'm sorry it was too lengthy and messy, though. I...I honestly don't really know how to express everything. My mind's just so clouded right now."
"Hn. It doesn't matter, Sakura. It's okay if it's lengthy and messy, as long as you were able to let it out."
There was just silence after that for Sakura didn’t know what else to say. Even silence with Sasuke was comforting, so she just allowed that comfort to consume her continuously, never wanting it to end.
“Sakura?”
“Hmm?”
“You’re not weak.”
Gasping a bit, Sakura could feel the tears starting to brim her eyes again, but this time, not due to the negativities inside and around her.
Sasuke continued, “You’re not a physical representation of a failure either. You're made for so much more. I’ve seen you succeed in so many things, Sakura. And we all fail, but our failures don’t define us. Your failures or what you think as shortcomings don’t define you at all, you hear me?”
“Y-yeah.” She sniffed and wiped a tear with the back of her hand. “Sasuke, you’re making me cry again!” Sakura slightly giggled amidst her tears, and Sasuke could imagine that if he was beside her, she had probably slapped him hard enough on his arm while saying this.
He let out a chuckle. “Now look at you, you’re already laughing.”
“Your fault.” She huffed playfully.
“Not sorry at all, then.” Sasuke grinned on his own. For him, he didn’t even do much, but for Sakura, it felt like Sasuke had pulled her out of a deep trench by simply being there.
There was one question that lingered in her mind ever since she received his text message. And so she asked him before they even ended the call. “Uhm...Sasuke? How did you know? I mean...why did you message me? How did you get the idea that I wasn’t feeling my best this week?”
Quietness filled the other line for a few seconds. “Intuition, I guess. You’re like that with me also, aren’t you?"
It was true, there were instances before that Sakura was the one who reached out first, as if it was a coincidence that he wasn't at ease with something by the time she talked to him. The only difference was that, during those times, they saw each other often, unlike now.
Sasuke added in a softer voice, "This wasn't the first time, Sakura. Maybe – no – I believe it’s because we’re…”
Realization hit Sakura even though Sasuke didn’t even mention the word. And then she beamed, because honestly, she felt that too. They were connected, and no quarantine could affect that connection that they had.
Sakura muttered with a smile, “I believe that too, Sasuke.”
That night, she was able to sleep with a light feeling for the first time within the week. All thanks to Sasuke for reaching out when she started crawling underneath.

Hello. I don't know what this fic made you feel. But if you've made it this far, thank you. I'm proud of you, not only for reaching the end of this fic but also for surviving up until now❤️
I know it hasn't been the best time in the world, literally, but it is my desire and prayer to hopefully bring a bit of comfort to you guys while or after you read my works.
Here, Sakura had the assurance that Sasuke is there for her. For us, it's really amazing if we have a few trusted friends like that whom we could open up to, but sadly, some of us probably don't have anyone we're comfortable to confide with at all. But can I encourage you with this?🤗
Maybe your friends are busy. Or maybe your trust has been broken by so many people that you find it so difficult to open up now, but you also know full well that you kinda need a Sasuke to your Sakura especially these days. So let me share this with you...
"Cast (throw) all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7 ❤️
Here's a thing, God loves you and cares for you so much, and that's the reason why you could throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon Him. He will listen. He always does, even when at times it doesn't feel like it. And whatever it is that you would tell Him, it wouldn't change the fact that He loves you just the same🥰 So go, throw it all to Him now, I pray that you personally experience the peace that transcends all understanding once you do so❤️
On the other hand, I know some of us have diagnosed conditions and the situations around us are definitely not helping us recover further mentally. I'm not an expert but I really hope we could help one another during this time so here are a few reminders:
If you have medications, take them regularly and make it a priority. If needed, it's even better that you restock early regardless of the quarantine status in your place. I actually almost forgot taking my meds twice this week! Hahahuhu. But thank God I was working on this fic in the middle of the night so I still got to take it before sleeping😅
Make sure to take breaks even short ones within the day, especially during work days. Take a nap. Play an instrument. Eat. Read fics. Watch an episode of an animé. Anything that would fill your tank so you could be pumped up somehow as the day continues.
Lastly, don't hesitate to seek help from your trusted friends. Please, don't. You are loved. You are not a bother. You are worth listening to. You are valuable. You are made for so much more.
I may be a stranger but you can also contact me if you need someone to talk to🤗 I have the same username on IG and Twitter too! Sorry this was such a long author's note, but yeah, let's keep fighting one day at a time, alright?✊🏻
And if indeed you have a diagnosed mental condition, here's what my doctor has told me this week, you are not weak. Your condition is a part of you, but it is NOT all of you😭❤️
Thank you for dropping by. God bless!

// And here you go. Last but not least. I hope it pleases you. Decided to do something of an origin story. Please let me know what you thought of it.
“Secure the perimeter. Two guards on every patrol. And no open fire” Swain commanded, walking through the improvised camp. The soldiers all around him nodded, but did not respond, beginning their preparations for the night immediately. “And should any of the guards get any funny feelings, alert others. I’ll have the first “independent investigator” flogged once the Placidium is ours” he reminded his men, leaving the perimeter patrol and heading deeper into the noxians’ camp area. This was one of the several hidden camps in the surrounding valleys, all of these camps containing seasoned veterans in many hundreds. Together, they’d be thousands. And not one ionian knew they even were here. Leaning down as he climbed inside his tent, general Swain sat down on the bedroll. Putting aside the officer’s sword and the hand crossbow he carried on field missions like this. Making sure the flap of the tent was truly closed, he lit a candle, rolling open a map of the surrounding area, going through his plan once more.
The islanders were finally beginning to find their fighting spirit, monastic orders starting to offer assistance to the village militias. These monks, assassins and martial artists were strengthening the opposition greatly. Looking at the city of Placidium on the map, the Master Tactician nodded to himself. The noxians were overreaching, advancing too quickly, not fortifying the ground taken and reinforcements that were promised from mainland kept being redirected to chase all kinds of wild rumor. If the Noxians would somehow suffer some catastrophic loss somewhere, the islanders might very well be able to just drive them back all the way to the southwestern coast with ease. An irritated sigh left the ambitious commander. Sometimes he felt like the very land itself was fighting their invasion.
They needed to take bridges, break strongholds and capture the population centers before the entire nation would unite against them. Instead they were raiding country side. Raping, pillaging and terrorizing population, running field tests with zaunite weaponry because Darkwill was curious about the results. Terror was an excellent tool of control and a way to break morale, but this… Frankly speaking genocide was not serving the empire. Once the island nation was theirs, who’d work the fields? Assuming that the soil had not been corrupted by some chemical “test”. Who would produce trade goods? Who would the noxians have digging ore in the mines they’d start here? And that was if they managed to secure the nation. He looked once more at the map.
Taking Placidium, Swain intended to draw out the ionians from their guerrilla warfare tactics into an open battle for survival. And then he’d crush them there, crippling the defenders. With the capitol of Navori under control, Noxians could start fortifying their holdings, focus their efforts to a single location at a time instead of running about everywhere, burning and destroying yet achieving precious little. Tomorrow, his hidden legions would emerge and assault Placidium in blizkrieg style, and they’d take the city intact. The buildings, the riches, the people. He’d turn the entire city into a hostage and a bait so irresistible that Ionians would march to their own doom to save it.
“Sir. There has been an issue” Came the muffled voice of his lieutenant from outside the tent. A frown rose on Swain’s face. Since he did not hear any ruckus suggesting they’d been had… “A patrol missing?” The Tactician made an educated guess, one which his officer confirmed moments later. “Get me 6 good men. I’ll be out momentarily”. Taking a gulp from his waterskin, Swain fastened his sword on his hip again and grabbed the crossbow. “What is another sleepless night, when I already have so many?” He let out a dry chuckle, blowing the candle and leaving the tent.
The patrol had gone missing on the eastern side of the camp, the side which was covered with more dense forest leading up to the mountains. It offered plenty of cover for would be assassins, but something in the night air gave the noxian commander the gut feeling this wasn’t one of those “ninjas”. Glancing at the tiny flowers glowing in the otherwise dark forest, he scoffed. “Magic everywhere. And somehow I have hunch this is one of those creatures again” He said quietly, gripping the shaft of a spear. Were this once again some oversized animal with wings, he’d rather keep it a shaft’s distance away from himself rather than try his luck with a sword. “Lieutenant, you have your orders about the main mission. And send a second troop five minutes after us”. “Sir”. With that, the seven noxians began moving, four moving us scouts at front while Swain and two others waited for the first sign of trouble.
Half an hour later they had found the lost patrol. Stepping next to the soldier inspecting the two corpses, Swain frowned, kneeling down as well. “They… This is odd” The scout muttered, motioning at the two dead men laying on their backs. Both had similar situation. Their weapons had been drawn, but no signs of combat were evident. It was like something had pushed them down and they’d just… Stopped breathing. No injuries. Though curiously… Swain brought his hand to hover above one’s chest. “The armor… It’s radiating warmth” The man observed, the scout confirming same on the other victim. “Something hit them in the chest and they died… But not of injury”. Magic. Everything on these cursed islands had to do with magic. A femine chuckle caught the general’s ear and he blinked in disbelief, cautiously standing up. “Sir did you…”. “Yes. I heard it as well. Weapons ready!”. All the noxians readied their weapons, peering into the darkness.
A second chuckle reverberated through air. What a beautiful, sensual voice. It stirred something in him. Something very primal. “I’d like to give this vixen a shafting of different sort…” One of the soldiers crudely remarked, shifting his grip on his halberd, few others snorting nervously. Swain took that as a confirmation. The spike of sudden lust had not been his imagination. “There” one of the soldiers hissed, pointing ahead. And indeed, on the path lighted by the small glowing flowers stood a young woman, dressed in some kind of very simple and hazy dress. But what a woman… The dress did very little to cover her feminine charms, barely concealing the crucials but those few furs wrapped around her waist did their best to cover her. Her hair was dark and a bit messy, unkempt, but shone like most well kept fur only could. And then there was the face. Slightly alien, yet distinctively human, she was gorgeous. And then there were those cute fox ears. “It’s a demon. Kill it!” Swain snapped the instant his mind connected the dots. Unfortunately her men weren’t quite as strong of mind. A bright orb of light shot out of the woman’s hand while she dashed to the side. The ball struck one of the noxians, man flying on his back lifelessly, the something shifting in the orb, a sliver of some new colour being added as the ball grew ever so slightly.
So that is what happened, Swain thought grimly, observing how two of his men leveled their crossbows at the seductress but missed. She dashed and leaped around with grace of a cat, showcasing no issues in switching between running and occasional dash on all fours for a pounce off a tree. Attempting to get in melee, two noxians charged shouting at her, and Swain saw the golden eyes flash, flames appearing on the tips of her nails moments before those flames set the men alight. The armor resisted the burn, but did precious little to save their owners’ lives, the men falling on the ground while screaming in agony. it might be possible to save their lives, but Swain already scratched them out of the roster. He had no time to care about two wounded. “Watch the magic! It’s eyes glow when it casts” He shouted, the fox-woman’s head snapping in his direction and as her golden irises met with his, Swain felt himself swallowing nervously. The full lips formed words. There was no sound, but somehow the noxian heard her in his head. “You are the alpha then..?”.
Whatever that meant, Swain did not intend to find out. Another burst of fire shot out, the soldiers it was targeting dodging, but one of them got caught by the glowing orb instead, his cruelly taken and added to the orb’s beauty. “Harrowing take you!” Swain cursed out loud, tossing his spear with a trained and drilled practice. Not his chosen weapon, but the fox appeared to had been briefly distracted by the orb’s growth, Swain landing almost landing a hit, earning him an angry stare and a hiss showcasing the sharp fangs of the foxlady. Drawing his sword and bringing up the crossbow, Swain shouted: “Pull back! Focus on avoiding it’s spells” He shot two of the three bolts towards the fox, her attention now completely on him. Oh no… Throwing her arm forward, Swain saw the orb accelerate towards him, stepping hastily to the side and behind a tree. Supporting his arm, he took aim, letting loose the third bolt and discarding the weapon. Time to run. “Retreat!” He barked, dashing away from the creature, not bothering to check if he’d landed anything. The few remaining soldiers did not question the order, discarding their heavy weapons and opting for speed instead, following their commander. To their great relief, the she-devil did not pursue, instead disappearing into the forest and the morning mist slowly rolling in as the night began to fade.
Hissing in pain, Ahri limped herself to safety higher on the forest-covered slopes. Reaching one of the pristine ponds offering clean water that flowed downwards alongside a tiny river, she crouched down, hissing and staring at her thigh. A crude human made stick had pierced the skin, sinking into her leg. A cruel move by the alpha of the Noxian pack. She wondered why they’d chosen to run, for with her injury, her greatest defense, her speed and agility, had been taken. Knowing what must be done, having witnessed the villagers nearby do similar things after fighting with the noxian packs, she gripped the shaft. Gritting her teeth, the vixen yanked the bolt out, her eyes tearing with pain. Why was it, that humans started leaking water from their eyes when they hurt, she wondered as she ditched the offending stick to a nearby bush. Wiping her tears, annoyed at them, she limped closer to the pond. Ahri would have to wash the wound and rest a few days before she could hunt more foreigners.

Band Camp Day 6
If you thought our band director couldn’t make things worse, you’re wrong
August 24th, 2019
Day 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 7
I’m tired in many senses of the word:
First some stuff I forgot from yesterday:
Two nights ago the band was super slap happy and the BD was mad about it but maybe if we weren’t outside for a million hours and had actual indoor rehearsal--
The gang and I are showing up later and later to rehearsal and I’m surprised we haven’t been actually late yet
Okay now for today:
Morning rehearsal we just did a ton of halftime. This time the BD was able to fix our mistakes because he had the music, which Highkey confirmed that last night was a waste of time
We had to relearn a lot
Why are we even doing halftime when we barely know pregame
I learned some clarinet tea: someone went to join colour guard at the beginning of the year, got cut, rejoined clarinets, and they’re slightly annoyed
We got to march to the football practice field to “teach” the footballers how to sing the fight song
Basically we marched there in a parade formation (cool, good practice) and played the fight song for them. We didn’t get to teach them at all technically
When we got there, the football coach was hyping up the team, and we couldn’t respond with hype because we were at attention and that was awkward
Then we played the fight song
Then we got to relax and react a bit
Then we played Dance Again, the band’s national anthem
I was in the back, so I couldn’t see it, but apparently there was just a whole heckin mosh pit so that’s cool I guess
I think it’s kinda fun
So then we had to march back
And fun fact: piccs are in the back
So the genius idea was for the band to just turn around and have piccs in the front
Uh bad idea bad idea
I literally said “nonononononono” and I Know some of the piccs heard it
I was on the edge because I’m a Returner (but that doesn’t mean I’m good at marching, folks)
The first line had two people in it because they were the back
So I was guiding to like my line sort of and my made up place
And it’s not my first time being the corner of a parade, but it’s definitely the worst I’ve ever done
Marching back sucked because of me but whatever we made it in one piece
BD: “We’ll do some halftime then pregame” *we only do halftime*
Lunch!
Half the piccs got together to do a Pokemon Go raid before going back to band and it was pretty fantastic
So the plan was sectionals at 1:30 (after lunch) but it got changed to “Meet in band room first”
It was to put away chairs and stands
Then sectionals
But here’s the deal
Our section leader was really sick
So she wasn’t there until then
Me, texting her: So sectionals are happening, but only come if you think you can Two seconds later, the piccs: Can you text NSL Me: Just did
Us, getting into the sectionals room
Me: Listen up, piccs. Naptime until NSL gets here
We ended up napping for like twenty minutes
NSL got there, and one of the fish piccs was like “Do we have to get up” and NSL straight up said, “No keep napping” and let us go for another fifteen minutes
I was on instagram the entire time because I hate sleeping and naps
But then I was accused of sleeping and I’m still lowkey mad about it
Even though plenty of people stood up for me asdfghjkl
Then we started sectionals
I definitely had a piece of white chalk because I was gonna draw on the chalkboard (I didn’t so I didn’t wake people up)
The chalk was at the board, but I accidentally carried it back to my seat on accident
So I started drawing on myself
(I’m not white)
And I sit in the back so eventually the piccs turned around and were like “[cpb] wtf” “I’m trying to blend in”
Which has the same vibes as when I stole Roommate’s sunglasses (she was up front but her stuff was still in the back) and then was messing around on my phone and it must have been a Look because when the piccs saw they all were like “??????”
NDL noticed almost immediately and gave me a Look
that was like the second day of band camp whoops back to today
Finished sectionals, immediately back to the field
Many pregame
Finally
There was a car parked on where we’re supposed to enter the field so that created Issues
The owner of the car is this one guy who’s,,,, in band? Not in band?? none of us understand
He’s this older dude who fills in spots, but he has a nametag like the rest of us and everything, so
I dunno but he didn’t move it so we were Messy getting on the field
Our drum major brought her dog and her name is Coco and I love her
Technically this was the end of the day (shortened day--ended at 5:30)
We did noncompliance dances, which was some song about cows
One of the returning piccs lives on a dairy farm, and she was very into the song--it was hilarious
yes a member of GB
We didn’t sing, though--not yet
So then our band pres got in front of the band for announcements, and she was like, “Today’s activity is a hike up sugarloaf mountain! We meet here to figure out rides!”
but then here’s where stuff got even messier:
During the week of band camp, we’re supposed to have an elimination block
This is where we get in a block formation and follow commands blindly. Mess up and you’re out. Last one wins
We do it as a band, then just the returners
This is supposed to leave the freshmen paranoid. “Oh no they’re gonna make the freshmen do it” sorta thing
And then you go back to rehearsing as full band without saying anything, effectively confusing the freshmen
We didn’t do this
So as band pres was giving announcements, she said, “We’re gonna march pregame a bit and do an elimination block” so uh that’s spoiled thanks
I sorta get that we have to introduce the concept of it, but we should have done that when we met up after dinner
That entire thing is supposed to be a secret to the freshmen
Especially because of how BD reacted
He was like “Tell them about the rewards!”
And that’s an even bigger secret
So then everyone started whispering “freshman of the year” so surprise: spoiled
So then we completely revealed that, and I had to raise my hand because I was FOTY, and the other two also had to raise their hands but aaaaa
The piccs cheered for me though haha it was sweet
Thankfully, with all of us so tense you could feel it in the air, crash and burn wasn’t spoiled
The fact that we do stuff before sugarloaf was though and it makes me angry
dinner
then the antics
We did a whole band elimination block
I committed suicide--I wasn’t about to do that whole thing
A senior baritone won that
Then it was time for the block that mattered: the freshmen only
Basically the piccs dropped like flies except for maybe two, but they did well
Colour guard won, which nice since they’ve never done that
I should know, I currently have the list
Breaking the streak of only trumpets and drumline getting it one section at a time
Though piccs are slightly annoyed because their DI was a picc and knows the secrets
Then time for crash and burn
What’s supposed to happen is that we set up for pregame, and then they say “returners step out” which effectively freaks out the freshmen
But this time they straight up said “freshmen set up pregame” which ruins that
Then they got to the final block and were being yelled at to stay in set
Then the SL for the percussion gave us their air horn and we went wild
Basically the goal is to get them to break attention
We did a ton of vine references and broke quite a few of our piccs
One of them though was unbreakable so kudos to her, especially since she’s been sick all week and couldn’t do most rehearsals
Picc section has been dying in more than one way
She picks up on stuff so quickly though she’s amazing
Then we went up the hiking trail, hung out at the top, did the senior speeches, got emotional, took some awesome section pictures, amazing GB album covers (that’s what we call our squad pics)
squad piccs
After the senior speeches, we do the cult stuff. Singing the alma mater and fight song. However, before this, we’re supposed to take a pledge--or the freshmen are, at least
However our band pres forgot to get a copy of the pledge, so she had to call the band pres from last year (who graduated) and it was pretty funny
We did the cult stuff first to give him time to send it over
After that NSL called us over to give us a speech and talk about how proud she is of us and dang I love her
I miss mom and dad too, though
The freshmen: Why do you call yourselves gingerbread We made gingerbread houses together,,,, it’s not that interesting of a story
We hiked down
I very quickly figured out that my dinner of Lots of Bread wasn’t quite enough
My friends fixed that real quick
We also played pokemon go this entire time
And uh yeah that’s pretty much the day. I’ve been typing this on and off for two hours so I’m gonna go sleep
But also, another thing from yesterday:
At lunch I misheard someone say something and heard the word “wet” instead. But my dumb brain also took that as slang for “rad” so guess what the picc section says now
Yeah it’s pretty wet
Did I explain that yesterday? I dunno but I wanted to make sure you guys knew because it’s a Thing along with the handshake and I’m excited
Have I talked about the alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic song? I’ll try to mention it tomorrow if not
Have I mentioned how much we talk about vines because that’s still happening it’s honestly fantastic
A new vine reference every five seconds really
Tomorrow is a short day. Expect a shorter post.

Expired tax extenders not yet on track for renewal
NASCAR's 2019 season started today with the auto racing series' biggest event, the Daytona 500. Congratulations to Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing for taking the checkered flag in the Great American Race.
Things aren't so clear-cut, though for the expired tax break for motorsports speedway improvements and more than two dozen other assorted tax benefits.
These tax breaks expired in 2017 and are not on track for reinstatement. Yet.
In fact, they're looking as messy as today's closing laps pile-up.
Extenders indecision: These assorted tax breaks are known collectively as the extenders. They get that name because they are temporary and must be extended periodically by Congress.
Some extenders were added permanently to the Internal Revenue Code as part of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes, or PATH, Act back in 2015.
But some of the 26 temporary tax laws that expired in 2017 (which are this week's By the Numbers figure), as well as the two that ended at the end of 2018 and seven set to expire at the end of this year, could get new lives.
Or not.
Timing of tax renewals: Often, as now, they lapse and are resurrected retroactively, making tax planning a mess.
That happened in February 2018, when Congress extended provisions that had expired at the end of the 2016 tax year.
Those renewals included popular individual tax breaks for tuition and fees, mortgage insurance premiums and residential debt cancellation.
The remainder of temporarily extended tax breaks were for businesses that had been part of the tax code for close to a decade or longer.
Year after year, or sometimes every other year when Congress extends them for slightly longer periods, the tax benefits have been routinely approved by lawmakers.
The effort is bipartisan. Extenders have been, well, extended regardless of whether the legislative chambers and White House were under Republican or Democratic control.
The times, however, may finally be changing.
GOP pro extension, Dems warier: Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, is a fan of the current extenders.
He had hoped that the tax extenders — renewed retroactively for the 2018 tax year, as well as for 2019 — would be attached to the government funding bill that was signed on Friday, Feb. 15, and which will keep federal offices open through the end of September.
No such luck.
Grassley has been frustrated in part by his tax-writing colleagues in the House, which have the constitutional duty to initiate tax bills.
And in a flipping of traditional fiscal positions, some House Democrats are arguing that the budgetary cost of extenders be considered — and paid for — in any renewal bill. Technically, the dollars haven't mattered because the tax laws are temporary.
"We're not just going to be adding to the deficit like the Republican majority was fond of doing, and that includes an extenders package," Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wisc.), a member of the House tax-writing panel, said earlier this month.
Kind advocates considering the value of each extender, especially as to whether the tax breaks encourage job creation for well-paying positions. "We want to be supportive of a growing economy, but I don’t think there's any reason why we Socan’t get back to regular order [and] have some hearings, get some feedback."
Kind's fellow Ways and Means Committee member Rep. Brian Higgins (D-N.Y.) agrees. Higgins said that he and his tax panel colleagues will give careful, deliberate consideration to the extenders, but the committee, now led by Democrats, isn't going to "just simply rubber-stamp what's already been done."
Timing is everything: Grassley and other members of Congress aren't the only ones getting antsy. Taxpayers are starting to worry, too.
With less than two months before most filers must send the Internal Revenue Service some tax forms and possible tax payments, they want three key filing questions answered.
First, will any of the expired extenders be renewed?
If Capitol Hill's response is yes, the next query is which ones?
Finally, the biggest question must be resolved. When will it happen?
Your guess is as good as mine to all questions.
Extenders' many legislative roadblocks: Congress originally had hoped to resolve the extenders issue before 2018 ended. But those plans didn't pan out.
Republicans, who saw the 2018 midterm elections end their House majority, decided to focus on more permanent tax provisions that didn't make into the TCJA. The goal was to approve more tax reform items, dubbed Tax Reform 2.0, by the end of last year while the GOP still controlled the House, Senate and White House.
There was some hope extenders would be part of the 2.0 package. But it was pulled from consideration after many Republicans who lost their reelection bids decided not to return to or stay in Washington, D.C.
Then came the funding battle in December that led to the start of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.
And then the Democrats took over with the start in January of the 116th Congress, focusing on the final fight (for now) over reopening the shuttered government offices.
Meanwhile, extenders got lost in the legislative shuffle.
Next extenders steps, or not: Grassley says he soon will introduce a tax extender measure to give taxpayers currently working on their 2018 returns some clarity.
But again, as he noted on social media, the House is charged with originating tax bills, even if the Ways and Means Committee simply incorporates Senate language into an official House bill.
Some Democratic House Ways and Means members reportedly remain interested in holding at least some hearings on the extenders. That would slow any renewal.
And a few share the no-more-extenders opinion held by several political and tax policy think tanks.
End extenders altogether: The Tax Foundation, a conservative-leaning tax policy nonprofit in the nation's capital, has long argued that temporary tax laws are poor tax policy. Extenders oft times do not effectively accomplish their stated, primary objective of encouraging certain activities, argues the group.
In an April 2018 blog post discussing Tax Foundation recommendations to Congress regarding extenders, analyst Erica York, wrote:
"Instead, because of their often-retroactive nature, these provisions result in an after-the-fact transfer to narrow groups without incentivizing the intended activity — businesses and individuals cannot go back in time and make different decisions. This temporary, uncertain nature also makes it increasingly difficult for businesses and individuals to engage in long-term decision-making as they do not know which tax provisions will be in effect in the future. The economic uncertainty created by these provisions slows economic growth.
The Committee for a Responsible Budget (CRB), another Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan public policy think tank, agrees.
"Letting tax extenders expire was one of the few acts of fiscal responsibility taken by the last Congress," said CRB President Maya MacGuineas in a Feb. 13 statement. "Now, just over a year after these special-interest tax breaks expired, some in Congress want to bring them back and throw the cost on the credit card. And they want to do it after Americans have already started doing their taxes, throwing a wrench in the returns already filed.
MacGuineas also thinks Congress should follow its earlier inclinations to let these provisions permanently expire:
"Having twice decided not to make these expired provisions permanent — in the 2015 PATH Act and the 2017 deficit-financed tax reform bill — the third time should not be the charm. Congress should not revive the zombie tax extenders."
Will Congress listen to these groups and some of its own members? As the saying goes, we'll see.
And we need to see one way or the other soon.

World Cup 2018: Lawro
World Cup 2018: Lawro
World Cup 2018: Lawro
World Cup 2018 on the BBC Host: Russia Dates: 14 June – 15 July Reside: Protection throughout BBC TV, BBC Radio and BBC Sport web site with additional protection on Pink Button, Related TVs and cell app.
Half of the 32 groups have gone house, however which of the survivors will go all the best way to the World Cup closing at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on 15 July?
The hopes of eight extra nations will chew the mud after the primary knockout spherical, which incorporates France versus Argentina and England in opposition to Colombia.
BBC Sport soccer professional Mark Lawrenson is making a prediction for each match in Russia, and accurately guessed the end result of 22 of the 48 group video games.
Earlier than the event, Lawro selected 14 of the 16 groups which can be by way of to the primary knockout stage, together with Brazil, his choose to win the event, and England, who he believes will attain the quarter-finals.
Lawro was chatting with BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan in Moscow.
Video games Rating Lawro’s prediction Saturday, 30 June France v Argentina x-x 2-1 Uruguay v Portugal x-x 1-0 Sunday, 1 July Spain v Russia x-x 2-0 Croatia v Denmark x-x 2-0 Monday 2 July Brazil v Mexico x-x 2-0 Belgium v Japan x-x 2-0 Tuesday three July Sweden v Switzerland x-x 0-1 Colombia v England x-x 0-2
Saturday, 30 June
France v Argentina (Kazan Area, Kazan, 15:00 BST)
If the Argentina gamers did have a say in crew choice and ways after their talks with coach Jorge Sampaoli, then one of many selections they made was to return to enjoying with a again 4.
I nonetheless do not suppose they’re excellent defensively – however they’re making an attempt to maintain issues easy and as tight as attainable, after which search for a little bit of genius from Lionel Messi – who did precisely that in opposition to Nigeria.
Whereas Argentina solely simply made it to the final 16, France acquired out of their group with none hassle in any respect.
Les Bleus haven’t performed anyplace close to to their potential but, and the disjointed efficiency of their draw with Denmark was not helped by the adjustments made by boss Didier Deschamps.
I nonetheless suppose France look much better with Olivier Giroud up entrance and with Paul Pogba in a deeper function alongside N’Golo Kante, slightly than two devoted defensive midfielders.
Ultimately, I believe we’re going to see the France gamers put in an enormous efficiency. In the event that they produce it in Kazan, they may win.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-1
Uruguay v Portugal (Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi, 19:00 BST)
This will likely be a busy night for the referee, not least with Uruguay’s Atletico Madrid centre-halves Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez up in opposition to Portugal’s Actual Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portugal is not going to change the best way they play, which is sort of one-dimensional and never notably inspiring.
Uruguay haven’t precisely set this event alight with their attacking play both, however they’re extra adventurous and have a number of extra concepts after they come ahead.
Lawro’s prediction: 1-0
Sunday, 1 July
Spain v Russia (Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, 15:00 BST)
Russia have completed very effectively to get this far, however I believe Spain are a step up at school that will likely be an excessive amount of for them.
The house assist will assist the hosts, and there are query marks over a few of Spain’s defending at this event, however the Spanish gamers may have a lot of the ball on Sunday that I do not suppose it will likely be an ideal subject.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-0
Croatia v Denmark (Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod, 19:00 BST)
I’ve been very impressed by Croatia, I can not actually see a weak hyperlink of their midfield, both centrally or out broad, and so they have an attacking outlook proper by way of their crew.
Denmark, in distinction, are very bizarre. I’m certain they may create some probabilities, however most of their build-up play is beneath the ‘hopeful’ class, except they’ll get Christian Eriksen on the ball.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-0
Monday, 2 July
Brazil v Mexico (Samara Area, Samara, 15:00 BST)
I do not suppose Brazil get pleasure from enjoying in opposition to Mexico, who’ve an honest file in opposition to them.
Brazil have received 4 of their previous six conferences however, since 1999, Mexico have received seven and draw three of their 15 matches.
So the Mexicans is not going to worry them the best way some groups do – however they may have issues stopping them.
Brazil appear to be they’re simply beginning to come to the boil. Neymar has not likely acquired going but however, when their assault clicks, the tempo with which they arrive ahead is scary.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-0
Belgium v Japan (Rostov Area, Rostov-on-Don, 19:00 BST)
Senegal have been truly the crew in Group H that I assumed would give Belgium and England issues – however they didn’t make it into the final 16.
When Belgium have performed their strongest facet they haven’t struggled to create probabilities however, even then, they haven’t regarded just like the cohesive unit they may should be to go far on this event.
Roberto Martinez’s facet will win this tie, although, as a result of I do not suppose Japan will have the ability to deal with their attacking energy.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-0
Tuesday, three July
Sweden v Switzerland (Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg, 15:00 BST)
Switzerland have been enjoying effectively and acquired out of Group E with out an excessive amount of fuss.
It is extremely apparent what Sweden do, and so they positively play to their strengths with out having any actually proficient strikers.
From what I’ve seen of the Swiss, they simply have a bit bit extra about them, which is why I’m backing them to get to the quarter-finals.
Lawro’s prediction: 0-1
Colombia v England (Otkritie Area, Moscow, 19:00 BST)
I do not purchase the speculation that England are higher off as a result of they misplaced to Belgium of their closing sport in Group G.
Neglect about them being in what folks contemplate to be the simpler half of the draw, as a result of maintaining on successful is the very best factor you are able to do at a World Cup – you don’t want to threat stopping the momentum you may have constructed up.
So, we’ll see what impact making so many adjustments has on England, however I truly suppose they are going to be advantageous in opposition to Colombia.
They’ve some good gamers, however I do not suppose they may have the ability to deal with England’s high-pressing sport.
Lawro’s prediction: 0-2
