only consuming the audiobook version of project hail mary is wild when trying to imagine what the hail mary is actually doing in centrifuge form like “wait what? it’s… separating and rotating? then spinning?? surely it’s not as ridiculous as it sounds? i can’t even picture what it’s doing”
and then you get a copy of the actual book and see the diagram at the beginning and being like “oh. yeah. it’s really doing that. it really is that ridiculous”
i love this book sm

Instead of seeing 'hallucinations' of Javert when he was staying at the Gorbeau House with Cosette, in the audiobook 'Jean Valjean and Javert', they have a physical talk until a chase ensues.
Jean Valjean tells Javert he cannot be arrested solely because of Cosette: "She has good food and a good place to live, and she can finally sleep without any worries."
Javert doesn't seem to care.
Jean Valjean says that this is impossible for he has to live freely in order to protect Cosette.
Jean Valjean tells him he should surely know this feeling, and asks if he has ever loved anyone before.
Javert replies as if 'love' is foreign to him. "What I believe in is the law (法)." And "Love is powerless."
And the chase begins when Valjean gets tired of arguing with him.
I think this representation of Javert is not totally unique to many adaptations of Les Misérables; so much so that I believe I should read many of the Javert chapters again just so that I can remember what kind of a character he is 😅

not me rereading a bunch of George Orwell’s work and listening to 1984 inspired music in preparation for the audiobook
i usually despise audiobooks and prefer physical books but i am COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS
the second the music kicks in i know i’m gonna fucking lose it

TNG #18: Q-In-Law
This one is in honor of @particlewaveform and their post, which you can find here, I've decided that I should share that part of the book in it's entirety. There is indeed a scene where Lwaxana Troy beats the ever loving shit out of Q (including threatening to chop his dick off) in one of the TNG pocket novels and it must be shared
For those interested in this story, you may find the audiobook for this novel here, as read by Majel Barrett and John De Lancie, (AKA Lwaxana and Q themselves)
Finally, the rest of this post can be found underneath the read more, for those who wish to avoid spoilers

Where’s that post of “actually good writing from smeyer” I petition we add Wanda’s linguistic narrative development to the list
Like in the first chapter a lot of Wanda’s thoughts are fairly mechanical, kind of like what you would expect from an alien encountering English for the first time (even as a “native” speaker)
Then we have the big time jump and the way that she talks and thinks changes!! It changes to match the way that most of the souls talk (kind, grammatical, almost overly polite). This is the case even in her internal narration (possibly excepting when she speaks directly to Melanie, if I’m remembering correctly?).
Then she moves in with a bunch of humans and she has ANOTHER big linguistic shift. In the last half of the book we see her saying and thinking things in a way she never said or thought of things in the first half!
This is really encapsulated by the whole “catching on to sarcasm” thing, but I’ve noticed it actually goes down to like a grammatical level!!
Anyway all due respect to smeyer but I do think she kind of popped off
