AVATAR 2 ๐ ๐ actually got stupid excited for it as a specbiohead, I think it kind of ruled. I do think the overarching story drags it down massively, as cool as the pandora v human machine fights can get it's just not compelling to me even a little bit, even if they handled the impact of humans in this one better. The best part hands down was getting so much of the movie centered on world building and character dynamics within the na'vi groups. I like them more now than in the first film but I still wish they were less typically humanoid, especially since they're still running off negative native stereotypes. It's such a mixed bag but I was completely hooked in watching it and as always the creature design had me death gripping everything I had, it looked phenomenal. Every detail on every thing I was just in my seat tallying up the way each small anatomical detail would help in the environment and that was really fun. I really just wish we could have a film sans humans and focusing entirely on the na'vi and interpersonal dynamics between them and the world like this one did. Especially more plotlines with other sapiant species on the planet like the Tukun. I also am just obsessed with the way the na'vi interact with their environment and how they handle the movement of all the creatures, it feels sooooooooo good and researched.
#the new characters have way more going for them which im glad for#jake is a really weird protag i do like sometimes but most of the time i find him abrasive in a bad way#i wish his insistence on doing things in a militerized human way was called out more#i get why it's there i just think it sucks on a wider level#again the military human coming in to save the native group drags this down infinitely to me#i just want to see BEASTS#the ilu were so sweet i liked them sooooooo much#neytiri still rules as a character i wish she got to take charge more instead of jake watering her decisions down#anyway it's a huge improvement on one#i feel like the rest of the films will have a similar issue just cause the initial premise and over arching story feel bad to me#but i also figure each film will flesh out another group of na'vi in new settings#and im excited to see that because i think the worldbuilding is by far the strongest part of these films#and the execution visually#spec bio
