Album Review: The Singularity Phase II - Xenotaph by Scar Symmetry (Nuclear Blast)
Scar Symmetry are back, at last, with the second part of their The Singularity trilogy, Xenotaph, due for release via Nuclear Blast on the 9th of June. The Swedish melodic death metal, technical, progressive and more band last released studio music way back in 2014 with the first part of this trilogy, The Singularity Phase I – Neohumanity. An album I absolutely love and the reason why I moan…

What a loser am I right? Here's the Jax design for the Neo-Human AU! Boi ain't got no kneecaps. @notadreamurr
Subject 47 Alias: "Jax" Age: 22 Subject 47 was designed with one idea in mind: agility. His sleek limbs allow him to run at speeds reaching 30 mph, making him an efficient, bloodthirsty killing machine. However, this came at the cost of his ability to walk properly. Due to the shape of his legs, Subject 47 is forced into a quadruped position, and no longer has opposable thumbs or hands. His upper head was encased a headpiece with two foldable antennae that allow him to hear and detect objects around him using a sonar system. When he first woke up he was incredibly hostile towards all the other experiments, however, he has taken quite a liking to Subjects 39 and 50. Or at least has taken a liking to bullying them. Doctor Caine had to put a removable grate over his mouth to prevent him from ripping out Subject 50's wiring. Good thing he doesn't have hands anymore!

Now that I had some sleep, I am ready to think about the Infectee vs Neohuman thing.
To my understanding an Infectee is someone who gives in to their desires and is basically trapped in their own mind/heart, living out their fantasies on the inside while on the outside they are monsters wrecking havoc or not in those cases where they are harmless.
And a Neohuman is someone who resists their desires, loses all emotions and evolves into an immortal being. But since they showed that emotions can be taught eventually, Idk what the point was tbh.
Cause in the webtoon, the whole point of becoming a Neohuman was to have peace on earth because without emotions, people don't want to destroy each other. If you're immortal and have emotions, it's pretty much worse than before?? I don't get it. And what I mean by that is, I don't get the writers. It's a strange decision that feels like they somehow tried to make a happy ending out of this mess they created.

Last episode's exploration of the abandoned Bamseom facility does raise so many questions.
Whose idea is that monster-human project? Who is the man the mysterious girl claimed as the leader actually is? How Wui-myeong played part in the project? How they get so many people to be the test subjects/lab rats? Do they regularly hunt people outside and bring them there as lab rats, like how Yong-seok ended up there after searching for his girl's medicine? Are the rest of survivors outside the stadium mostly being stuck there? How the fuck Hyun-su is not aware of those people? What/who the fuck are beings inside those cocoons?

Day 15/30 : Draw Your Favourite Villain !
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING ! : Contains gore !
Tumblr media
For a long time (ever since Pacific Bay, the second opus of the franchise), my favourite villain had been Holly Hopper.
I love everything about her ! Her hairstyle, her outfit (especially the green one), Utopian leader, ... EVERYTHING !
But, when my favourite season came out, being The Conspiracy, the final antagonist became my all time favourite !
No...Not Denise Daniels, as they were like it was the final antagonist when in the end she got killed. NO ! But the new real final antagonist of this season : our little neohuman Otto Kessel ! ♥
When the cool villain literally executed and beheaded the hateable villain, and her creator at the same time, this was somewhat so satisfying.
Otto Kessel needs more love ♥

This album has been with me through everything. Tumultuous times and relationships in college, picking up the pieces of my life, questioning and rediscovering things like faith and purpose, shuttling back and forth between jobs that drained me and meaningless activities to fill my time until bed… and now it’s the album I put on whenever it’s time to take my T shots. I rock out in my bathroom while organizing my supplies, which mitigates pre-shot nerves, and administering the shot itself is a lot easier when I’m focused on singing along at the top of my lungs.
I’ve been calling it my Manmaker Album. I’ve played around with the music selections during Shot Day, but none hit quite as hard and work quite as well as this one.
I dunno, I’m just sentimental. This album turned ten a couple days ago, and it’s been such a massive source of comfort and joy for me. Fuck, I just! I love it so much!

Bisexual Neohuman girl
Aspen Jones is a proud Bisexual 🏳️‍🌈💚.
(In case no one knows, that's the name I gave to the Neohuman girl, and as you can tell from her last name, she was adopted by David and Heaven along with her twin brothers after the events of Blaze Of Glory from the new timeline of my AU).

Happy Halloween guys!!! This is the concept for Pomni in the new AU me and @notadreamurr have been cooking up! Subject 57
Alias: "Pomni"
Age: 25 The most recent of Doctor Caine's experiments, Subject 57 is still in the recovery phase after receiving her modifications. Her tissue and bone were removed from the maxilla up, and replaced with a camera as a way for Caine to document and record from the first-person perspective of the Neo-Humans. She is still very skittish and adjusting to her new body. Subject 57 constantly tries to find a way out of the facility despite the warnings she has received for attempting to do so. She has seemingly befriended Subjects 11 and 39. She wanders aimlessly, still getting used to her new vision in an attempt to escape back into the world. Bonus points if you know what this AU is inspired by 👀

The Authenticity Trap
The neo-humanism manifesto- cleo ashbee
Here’s the thing no one really talks about—there’s this constant, low-level tension between who we are and who we want people to think we are. And in the era of social media, this tension’s been cranked up to an almost unbearable degree. Authenticity and acceptance—these two forces we’re all navigating—seem like they should live in harmony. Like, in theory, the more “real” we are, the more we’d find people who truly accept us, right? But that’s not what happens. It turns out, the more you lean into authenticity, the less likely you are to fit into the neatly curated boxes society offers as paths to acceptance. And the more you chase that sweet, dopamine-laden acceptance from the digital masses, the less authentic you become.
It’s like a pendulum. Swing too far towards authenticity, and you risk being ostracized for breaking some unwritten, algorithmic rule of online engagement. Swing towards acceptance, and you’re on your way to becoming just another carbon copy in the endless scroll of influencers selling detox teas, self-care routines, or hashtag whatever the latest feel-good consumer trend is. What makes this even more maddening is that social media has amplified this divide. The internet, which could have been a place for true self-expression, has instead become a marketplace of personas.
Here’s where capitalism comes in, sneakily, but completely predictably. See, capitalism thrives on this gap between authenticity and acceptance, because it’s profitable. Social media platforms, built on the promise of connection and authenticity, have been quietly rigged to capitalize on your most desperate need: the need to be liked, to belong. Every like, follow, or share is currency in this new economy, where attention has become the most valuable commodity. The more you scroll, the more ads you see, the more products you’re sold—not just physical goods, but ideas, lifestyles, identities. And what’s really sinister is that this whole system thrives on distraction, on keeping you looking outward, obsessing over who you should be, rather than turning inward to who you actually are.
It’s no accident that we’ve become addicted to this endless exhibition of ourselves online. Social media offers a seductive kind of escape from ourselves—an opportunity to craft a version of ourselves that’s optimized for consumption. We crave distraction from the hard, unglamorous work of self-acceptance, so we turn to the next best thing: validation from others. But this validation is hollow, fleeting, designed to keep you chasing after the next hit. It’s like cotton candy—it tastes sweet for a moment, but it dissolves before it can actually fill you up.
And now, the pendulum swings wildly between two poles. On one side, you’ve got authenticity—raw, unfiltered, sometimes messy but real. On the other side is acceptance, which, in the digital age, has been hijacked by algorithms and monetized by platforms that have turned you into both product and consumer. We’re in a strange era where fame, something that used to be reserved for people who achieved remarkable things (whether through talent, leadership, or art), has been democratized—or, more accurately, diluted.
Welcome to the age of the influencer, where anyone with a phone and a knack for “content” can become famous. But here’s the rub: we’re not just elevating people because they’ve got some unique insight or skill. We’re making people famous for being famous. And it’s not the thoughtful, talented, or creative voices rising to the top; it’s often the people doing the most outrageous, fake, or plain stupid things that go viral. Half the viral videos you see are staged, engineered for maximum shock value, all in the hopes of triggering the algorithm’s jackpot: virality. We’ve gone from turning to experts—think world leaders, scholars, musicians, artists—for advice, to looking up to influencers whose only real qualification is that they’ve cracked the code on how to game the system.
What’s really terrifying, though, is how complicit we all are in this. We’re the ones following these influencers. We’re the ones liking, sharing, commenting, and perpetuating this system. And the thing is, we’re not just scrolling for entertainment; we’re scrolling for validation. We’re looking for someone to reflect back to us who we want to be, to tell us we’re doing life right. But in doing so, we’re feeding into a culture that prizes appearance over substance, clicks over connection, and shock value over authenticity.
So here’s the aha moment: you, me, all of us—we’re not just participants in this system; we’re its architects. Every time we scroll, like, or share, we’re reinforcing this pendulum swing between authenticity and acceptance, driving the very algorithm that keeps us stuck. And if we want to find balance, to bring that pendulum to rest in the middle, we need to stop feeding the machine.
The solution isn’t radical—it’s actually pretty simple. First, we can start by questioning what we consume and why. Ask yourself why you’re following certain people or engaging with specific content. Does it add something meaningful to your life, or is it just noise? Second, unplug—literally and metaphorically. Step away from the digital marketplace that’s turned your attention into a commodity. Go for a walk. Read a book. Have a real, face-to-face conversation. Finally, and maybe most importantly, practice being yourself, without performing it. This doesn’t mean dumping your entire emotional landscape online in the name of authenticity; it means cultivating spaces in your life where you can be real without needing an audience.
Bringing the pendulum to rest isn’t about abandoning social media altogether, but about reclaiming our ability to experience life—and ourselves—without the constant need for external validation. It’s about finding a way to be authentic and accepted without sacrificing one for the other. And it starts with recognizing that the person responsible for swinging that pendulum back to center is you.

I honestly DON'T think that delving more into the Science Side of things means having to do away with the whole Space Magic thing, personally! There's that quote... Something like how sufficiently advance technology is indistinguishable from magic. There's always gonna be stuff well outside the human (and human-derived, such as Exo and Awoken) understanding of things that will always look like Space Magic even if we get more of the Science Stuff behind it! To me, Science and Magic aren't two opposing forces, but things that can exist side-by-side, complementing each other. So I'd love to see them go more into the Science (or at least fantasy pseudo-science lol) side. (Personally, I think math is witchcraft, so, I may be biased haha)
Oh for sure! There's a LOT more options to explore theoretical science through the stuff we do in the game, without ever touching on space magic. It would definitely be cool. We'll probably get a new batch of speculative fiction stuff with Lightfall!
Bungie does seem to want to leave bits and pieces mysterious though. It adds to the setting that we don't know everything and never will. This also helps with speculative stuff because it allows for multiple avenues to explore it and to go into a lot of different directions with it.
There's already quite a lot of science stuff in Destiny! There's a lot of stuff that seems like just some random words but they're not! Look through any lore and google some of the weird stuff it mentions and you'll go down on a wikipedia dive for hours. You know when a Taken kills you with an Axion Dart? Well, axions are a thing, possibly. Or when you collect baryon boughs in the Dreaming City? Baryon! Mention of sterile neutrinos whenever Darkness appears? Sterile neutrinos!
There's A LOT more. And all of it is presented in a way that combines the magic with it, to add some mystery to these concepts that are often hypothetical science. It's a really cool mesh of science and magic. I would definitely love to keep that combination without going too much into either direction. I definitely agree that going more into science wouldn't detract from the magic, and other way around, especially in the way Destiny does it already. Clovis would be wise to understand that too, lmao.
