splatoon promo kids name list cause its always a pain to try to look for them for me personally and i realized. i could change that!
NOTE: weapons are ALWAYS inconsistent with the promo kids. their names may be assigned to different models as well. their first appearance is what they are usually seen as, and whatever weapon they "main" are based on renders/what they use in trailers.
SPLATOON 1
The skin tones are very inconsistent with everyone pictured.
TOP ROW: Kaori, John, Mizuho, Rul
BOTTOM ROW: Pit, Laura, Yuriko, Yuya
Kaori and John are the "Agent 3"s. Yuriko and Yuya do not have official renders.
SPLATOON 2
The skin tones are inconsistent, mainly with those with darker skin tones (unfortunately).
TOP ROW: Surume, Cuttlefrsh (Cuttlefresh in the earliest known trailer), Kou, Kensaki
BOTTOM ROW: KelpShot, Splashley, Tof-U, Yari
Surume and Cuttlefrsh are the "Agent 4"s, though Cuttlefrsh/Male Agent 4 is only ever depicted once (discounting coroika). Yari does have a transparent render, I just prefer the one with the roller (though, I wish I could find the transparent version of it).
OCTO EXPANSION (bonus)
BONUS: even though the renders used to represent Agent 8 are wildly inconsistent, there's two regular octoling renders that people believe are linked to them. Their names come from Octolings that look very similar to them in the offline version of the lobby. (Patricia and Steven). Sometimes Patricia is referred to as Naomi due to misinfo. They're like, promo kid adjacent to me.
SPLATOON 3 (the most popular and consistent)
VeronIKA and TakoTruck's skintones are inconsistent :(
Eyecolors for VeronIKA, Hirooooo, and AnemoneNo1 are inconsistent
TOP ROW: VeronIKA, Hirooooo (five o's), AnemoneNo1, TakoTruck
BOTTOM ROW: Stephanie, kAyOss (the k is not meant to be capitalized im dumb, image is inaccurate), C4L4M4R, YARRwhal
VeronIKA and Hirooooo are the "Neo Agent 3"s (though, Hirooooo is only used once for the artbook)
There is also an instance where Hirooooo's name is misspelled (only four o's) but i didnt want to find the image
BONUS
Tof-U is technically present in one of the gameplay showcases(?) I believe it's an error
kAyOss used to look different and was most likely combined with the unrelated promotional character shown next to them (who was used for Wireglasses/Glassless in Coroika)
okay thats all! I'll reblog and add on any additions if necessary
#rambling#splatoon promo kids#alex's promo kid hell#GOD. this took forever#there's also more splatoon 3 offline lobby characters but!! i didnt feel like finding them at this very moment#anyway... promo kids am i right *explodes*#splatoon#splatoon 2#splatoon 3

Submas sketchdump! Vol. 1
April-June 2022
Literally dumping all the presentable works as promised, whether I'm proud of them or not! This is where I started, even before the first thing I posted online (That subway station one). Many of these are not on Twitter yet so there's lots to see!
The top piece above the header is my very first digital Submas artwork!! I never finished it bc I didn't know how to pull my vision of as I wanted & started modeling the train and didn't finish that either, whoops! I really want to remake this later and make it super cool!
^^^ My reaction to breaking 500 likes & 100 followers in a single day with my first tweet (the battle subway one) all the way back in May!! I was completely floored by all the attention, oh how it skyrocketed my excitement and anxiety! Crazy times, I was so super nervous to be there with so many amazing artists and doubted if I could ever survive there ahahah!! Many had joined the community much much earlier than me, so I had arrived with a late train to PLA/neo Submas hype!
Next up is a bunch of stuff I haven't posted before:
One of my fav sketches! Been saving this for so long bc I really really want to finish this one day!
One of the first submas sketches with an actual story behind it! The subway bosses are running late for their flight because they didn't pass the safety check! The irony!! This would never happen as bosses are always on schedule. But Emmet hadn't noticed a wild Joltik hiding under his coat, so he set up the alarm and they got examined and interrogated of smuggling! How embarrassing for them! The bosses resolved the situation by catching the Joltik, but will they be able to catch their flight anymore?? Maybe if Elesa can distract the stuerts performing the safety protocol for a minute!
More sketchbook stuff...
In case you can't make any sense of it, Emmet's dreaming of different combinations of pokémon. Meanwhile Ingo snores louder than the train! HONK SHOO!
Top 7 every submas fan draws at some point!
Submas trademark posing
submas sleeping in a train
sad Emmet
Emmet with Joltik
Ingo with a cool solo pose
Emmet being chaotic & Ingo reacting to it
a bunch of mirrored submas poses
I sure have a full bingo card lmao, most of them you can see here XD
Next up is a sad man...
Stay strong our friends!
My typical sketchbook pages, crammed and messy as usual. x)
Post-PLA exploration:
A few examples of how my pencil sketches evolve.
I've done so much art experimenting with submas. I really like this black & white painting but I don't think I'll finish it anytime soon.
Where did you go?
The way I draw the twins' faces has changed a lot. They started with softer features and somewhat neutral emotions, because I wasn't as familiar with them or comfortable drawing them yet. Now there's hundreds of submas sketches, and they still keep evolving! My style is also kinda hard to pull off well, so their features differ from picture to picture.
This one was inspired by some submas music videos, can't recall their names anymore. The glowing eerie eyes and yellow&orange + black&white color schemes were neat!
I keep telling myself I need to draw more butlers, these twinks look so lean and neat and have more color and are posh with their monocles and have fun tailcoats!
(...why eyeglasses are not called binocles??)
I was there for the vinegar chaos. Good times!
That's all for now, I hope you got something fun out of this! Still got loads more art to share but I'll save them for another time. Next round I'll bring in my first submas comic!

Weiss - Atlas Design Critique.
Wow, I’m back to do two things useful with my RWBY Archives, talk about Weiss’ canon look in Atlas, and redesign her. I’m gonna talk about her actual look first, as the character notes on her dedicated page made me… hate the look much more. It was already in my top ten least favorite designs in RWBY but NOW it’s in the top five. RWBY Archives
I’ve been wanting to know why they thought it was a great idea for Weiss to wear a restricting-looking dress in the North Pole. Why does she choose to look like a wealthy princess when she is no longer tied to money or her family? The book gave me an answer I was not expecting… they just wanted to make her look like a wizard. I HATE IT. It’s bad enough that Weiss just summons, but this has to be some animation trick. They didn’t want to animate Weiss fighting like a ballerina anymore, so it was best she stuck to just summoning and only uses Myrenaster as a glorified wand. You might as well dress Weiss in whatever way you want cause all she does is stand and point… and whenever she does try to fight it looks janky as hell.
No way did they think Weiss could fight in a dress, Maria and Cinder could, but no way can I see Weiss fight like THIS anymore.
Hair
Now I don’t wanna disrespect the modeler cause I’ve seen their Artstation account. They modeled the Gods’ dragon forms, Winter, and Jaune! Models that look good! But the hair… they struggled and the backlash was hard cause they tweaked her hair again for Volume 8. I’m surprised they chose to change it when the people in charge should’ve changed it before Volume 7 even aired. It just tells me their standards are low and don’t give a crap about the product unless they need the fans to say something. The huge mass on top of her hair was so jarring I was convinced Weiss just took Blake’s chopped hair, dyed it, and applied it to hers.
Primary Color - White?
Blake is wearing more white than her, The Ace Ops are wearing more white than her, and Jacques is wearing more white than her- Weiss’ colors are perfect if she was representing the color blue and her name was something like Azure. The tiny reds don’t make an impact, wouldn’t surprise me if people didn’t know there was red inside of the dress. The super blue for her puffy jacket can’t be found anywhere else to balance that color, and her whites are then covered by grays. It’s like too many colors, what else can I say other than SHOWING what they could’ve done in the choice of color placements.
Positives?
This is gonna sound like an odd positive but I think she looks downright gorgeous in Ever After. The whacky princess look standing next to the Red Prince was amazing. It made me wish Weiss was the ‘Red Queen’ for The Ever After, similar to how Neo was ‘The Mad Hatter’ and Jaune being ‘The White Rabbit.’ It really could’ve tied in well.
Redesign
I miss redesigning a character; I kept in mind that White is primary, the tiara is no longer a staple to her design since she is no longer tied to wealth or even the heiress, and that her Volume 6 leggings and scarf stay intact. Why make accessories to protect her from the cold, but when she gets to a colder place she ditches them for a boob-window and bare legs that can make anyone freeze to death up in the north??? Side note; It’s not perfect, I’m not saying mine is better than the originals or anyone else’s this is just how I would’ve designed her or at least kept in mind to make a priority for the design. I also wanna say, yes, this outfit does look similar to another redesign of Weiss that someone else has made. I drew the design first before I went to Google to check if the look did look similar to someone else’s and I was like “Oops.” It wasn’t the intention, just coincidence. I didn’t steal.
Conclusion
It looks like the Atlas designs had a very huge backlash by just how BAD they were, as it now affects the girl's presumed Volume 10 looks in Vacuo, they have Weiss in white, ditched the chunky braid, and kept her in a presumed combat skirt than a restricting dress. Either A.) The original character designer for team RWBY finally took constructive criticism to get the girls back to themselves B.) They no longer design the girls and Viz Media put in a new artist for the team or C.) Vacuo designs were much easier to make than Atlas.
These options can be wrong too these are just my little theories, end of the day we got a design for Weiss that just shouldn’t have made it into the show. A design that didn’t represent white, displays wealth when trying to distance herself from her family/company, a huge animation restriction, and overall one of the worst outfits I’ve seen put on Weiss Schnee.
But of course it’s just my opinion. If you love this design or hate the design, please share your opinion. I’d love to hear it! :D

with your auto workshop at risk of closing down, your best friend offers to introduce you to people who are definitely in need of your high quality services: underground street racers of blue lock, whose obsessions are winning the races. however, your arrival at the track makes them think otherwise.
✧ 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. yukimiya kenyu, otoya eita, karasu tabito, shidou ryusei, itoshi rin, itoshi sae, oliver aiku, alexis ness, & michael kaiser x gn!reader
✧ 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭. headcanon (written) ; 1.1k
✧ 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞. e2l au, f2l au, street racer au ; fluff
✧ 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. allusions to violence (shidou & rin)
✧ 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚. here’s the second part containing characters who are more egoistic than the last batch… nah, that’s debatable lol. did i actually spend the entire day working on this? yes, i was a roll; love it here. anyways, my other fave, yukki, is here! i didn’t mention it last time: this au was originally written for another fandom years ago, moved to genshin but that didn’t happen, and then here! egoistic soccer boys as street racers? yes, please.
[ 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐖 (𝐈) ]
𝐲𝐮𝐤𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐲𝐚 𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐮. the model. he’s a member of the neo egoists and is ranked fifth of the top six racers in blue lock. his charm is the focal point of his character, driving the audience nuts. curious by nature, he wonders what important qualities you possess other than being “kira ryosuke’s date”. he also wonders how you managed to get the likes of barou, who treats everyone like trash, and nagi, who thinks of only going home, wrapped around your finger. seeing you teach nagi about car anatomy gives him the chance to introduce himself. he thinks there’s something special about you, which he intends to find out, but a teammate of his believes so otherwise.
𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐲𝐚 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐚. the ninja. he’s a member of the neo egoists and is ranked fourth of the top six racers in blue lock. he claims to be not like his fellow racers and teammates and prefers to operate in the shadows. unlike them, he doesn’t see you as an angel who was sent by god in the form of a mechanic to fix their cars. he fails to see why they’re smitten by you, therefore not interested in interacting with you at all. that turns out to be a lie when yukki gives you a tour of the turf of the neo egoists. it’ll be rude not to make you feel welcome, so he wants to give you a chance. a crow-themed racer laughs at him for fooling himself that he doesn’t find you attractive one bit.
𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐨. the assassin. he’s a member of the neo egoists and is ranked third of the top six racers in blue lock. all about good vibes and having a good time, he doesn’t want his team to act “mediocre” around you. most newcomers are notorious for never setting foot in this place again. he’s so relieved to hear that you came at your own volition thanks to ryosuke’s persuasion, and everyone you’ve met is nice to you… sans certain others, so he doesn’t need to worry about making an impromptu spiel of why blue lock, aka his team dare you add, is great. if you think he’s too friendly for your taste, let’s see if the next guy who’s stalking you right now takes the top of your list.
𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐲𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐢. the joker. he’s ranked second of the top six racers in blue lock. unrestrained both in words and action, he goes about his day and does everything as he pleases. judging by how karasu and the rest of the neo egoists are quick to stand either by or in front of you, he’s bad news. the altercation got team z’s attention, especially kunigami who he has massive beef with. you being “ryosuke’s date” doesn’t phase him, nor your best friend going for his head for being near you. ever since the older itoshi brother joined forces with u20 and chose him to be at this side, he’s been “behaving”. the younger itoshi brother isn’t amused, as if he didn’t break his nose last race .
𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐫𝐢𝐧. the puppeteer. he’s the unofficial leader of the neo egoists and is ranked first of the top six racers in blue lock. the youngest of the itoshi brothers, has a score to settle with his older brother, sae, who’s participating in the upcoming race as a member of u20 along with his personal choice shidou. it’s already bad enough for racers to use physical violence to settle arguments, but it’s even worse for him to be involved in another fight with shidou, especially before a race that determines his fate and prove to sae that he’s the best of the best. he doesn’t spare a glance at you or ask if you’re alright, as sae walks into the neo egoists’ garage to check out the commotion.
𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐬𝐚𝐞. the prodigy. he’s one of the new generation world 11, the best eleven racers in the streets and a member of royale. as he’ll be the only one representing his team in the upcoming race, he joined forces with u20 since they’re short by two members and personally chose shidou to fill in the other spot. even if it’s not obvious at face value, everyone can tell there’s bad blood between the brothers by the intense atmosphere created from their staring contest. sighing, he breaks contact first to search where you are, then looks at rin to scoff at his lack of concern for you when shidou approaches you. in the distance, claps are heard from a man with “u20” on his jacket.
𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐢𝐤𝐮. the player. he’s the captain of u20, the name of the team you’ve heard from literally everyone who won’t shut up about them for the past several hours. he’s highly respected among his team for his patience; dealing with sae and shidou, the most difficult people to work with on earth, is like a drive around the neighborhood. he intrudes with a reminder that the streets don’t approve of violence and that they’re going to race soon. in addition, a blue lock racer by the name of kira ryosuke has a special guest and they should be on their best behavior. yet he’s a hypocrite, flirting with you in front of his current date and promising you an autograph when he wins.
𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. the magician. he’s the mechanic of bastard münchen. he understands your position as the center of attention, claiming to be just like you — having a partner for an adrenaline junkie and being the “fixer” to clean up your mess. he invites you to see his partner’s car at the special garage as he’s on his way their to fix its engine, to which you happily accept as there’s finally someone with the same job who you can geek about car anatomy and share techniques. the way he repairs the engine is like clockwork, fluid and in tempo. he really is on a different level. you hear a chuckle behind you, asking if you’re fascinated by his work.
𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐤𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫. the thorn. he’s one of the new generation world 11, the best eleven racers in the streets and one of the major forces of bastard münchen. he puts in so much faith and trust in his partner, ness, the “fixer” of his messes. also known as “blue rose” in his turf, he’s shrouded in mystery and seems like the type who can turn the impossible to infinite possibilities. but in reality, he’s a pain in the ass. within minutes of your encounter, he keeps bragging about his abilities and declaring that his victory will lead to the disbandment of blue lock, so they won’t get in his way of his career. the race’s up, and you’re hoping that a blue lock racer wins to shut his mouth.

Pikmin 2 Batteries Wip
For my next project I wanted to do the batteries featured in the Japanese version of Pikmin 2. I made some interesting discoveries when looking up them and the cans that really recontextualised all the treasures for me, might write about that at some point.
I printed out a pair of C cell batteries
...then proceeded to make the D cell labels... There wasn't really a reason, just poor planning on my part.
originally I was planning on trying to cut out the parts where the metallic shows through...but its way too much, maybe if I had one of those fancy vinyl cutters but with just a knife...nooooo.
Guess now its time to either print a D cell, or make the C cell label. Or both.
Keep reading for too much battery knowledge:🔋
Okay so I said there was no reason why I printed the C battery first, but the D label first, well...the reason is I wanted to do the C battery, but the thing about the in game model is that...its not real.
The SUM-1 number there is actually the type of battery. Japanese batteries are numbered, so D=1, C=2, AA=3. They did modify the text in the lower left to say two, but not the upper. All the text and graphical elements are pulled from the D and AA cell battery. Maybe they couldn't find a sample of a 20-50 year old* C cell, finding images on ebay was hard enough now. Its Ironic that they used so many bits of the AA cell when an actual C cell's layout is almost identical to the D cell.
So that's a long winded way of saying that to make the C cell label I had to make the D Cell first. lol.
Okay some more battery facts:
The (NG) there is only for the black NEO versions, the red should have (DG), so likely the NEO one was made first and just colour swapped. Also the 単二形 kanji match the colour of the battery, so they should be red instead of black. And finally there's one too few white stripe in the middle white band.
A week ago for all I knew you could just go out and buy a National Hi-Top battery in a store, now I know too much.
Another fun fact: Matsushita Electric is nowadays known as Panasonic
*yes...the battery design is that old, in fact with one exception no treasure is from beyond 1990🪫

The Kore Recon Ballistic Sunglasses My Go To Eye Pro
Introducing KORE Ballistic Recon Sunglasses with our patented Neo-Lock technology. Now you can lock your glasses to your shirt, clothing, or gear when not in use and never have to worry about them falling out. No more sunglasses hitting the ground. See the video here >> https://youtu.be/-cMc99J8JGk So how do they work? We implanted neodymium smart magnets in both arms of the glasses. These smart magnets attract small metal strike plates embedded at the opposite end of the arms. The result - magnetic force snaps and locks the arms closed when folded. That means Kore glasses stay put.
As you would expect, Kore Recon Polarized Sunglasses have been ballistics tested and certified in the USA for the highest impact and safety ratings available anywhere, including: MIL-PRF-32432A Class 1 fragmentation impact rated and ANSI Z87.1-2015 safety rated. This means they’re ideal for soldiers in harm’s way, the shooting range, as work safety glasses, or just around town as a precaution. This is a whole new innovation within the ballistic sunglass market and utility patented product by Kore Essentials. It’s a great convenience and a big money saver.
But we didn’t stop there. We employed the highest quality materials available to create our new KORE Ballistic Lenses. Here’s some facts:
· Frame: Dupont Hybrid, High Density Polymide for impact resistance.
· Lens: PCPL High Impact with Polarization
o Total UVA & UVB sun protection.
o Scratch Resistant, Smudge Proof, Anti-Reflective inside
o Salt Water resistance exterior
· Ratings: MIL-PRF-32432A Class 1 & ANSI Z87.1-2015
At the moment, we only offer 1 styles > the "Ballistic Recon" Wrap style. Not to be confused with our Badlands fashion model which are NOT ballistics rated.
Kore frames are a beefier, more substantial design compared to most sunglasses. They are NOT an ultra –
light weight, thin, flimsy, or cheaply made, but rather quality-built for durability (approximately 2 oz). For example, hinges and screws are 25% larger to withstand more use and abuse. The frames themselves are also imported TR90 NZZ infused with a black coloring, to take advantage of the materials inherent strength and flexibility. Kore glasses are built to last. Tested & Passed Kore ballistics lenses were fired at using a T37 shaped fragment projectile at 700-725 ft/sec, had a ½” steel ball dropped on them from 50 inches up, baked at 200 degrees Fahrenheit, submerged in salt water and compressed while folded for several hours – and maintained their integrity and all safety factors.
3 Lens Options
Kore Recon comes 3 unique ballistic rated lenses. The Polarized gray lens (installed), Clear and Amber that you can swap out. To swap out lenses push the current pair place your thumb in the corner of the lens next to the nose opening, then push outward thru the front of the glasses. To install a new pair of lenses, working from the front, first pop the corner of the lens next to the arm hinge in the slot, then snap the other side near the nose opening last. It does take a bit of force.
Visor Strap
Lets you store your Kore glasses on your car sunshade visor, for easy-access. Just wrap the strap around your passenger sun shade, with the magnets and KORE logo facing down and attach the Velcro. Trim off any excess strap. Fold your sunglasses and stick them where the sun doesn’t shine. Travel Tube Our plastic case provides perfect protection for travel or in-car storage solution. Just remove the top, place it on the bottom of the tube and it fits in most cup holders for easy in-and-out sunglass storage. No more loose sunglasses in your cup holder getting scraped and scratched.

Best 8K TV 2024 | Our top picks from LG, Sony, Samsung, TCL, Vizio and more
Best 8K TVs 2024 | Discovering the Ideal TV: Budget, 4K, and 8K Options Explored The world of TV technology can seem overwhelming, with manufacturers constantly pushing the latest and supposedly greatest innovations. In a saturated market, they're vying for your attention, especially with the allure of 8K. Let's be real: 8K might seem groundbreaking, but is it necessary for the average viewer? While 4K is rooted in Hollywood's cinematographic standards, the reality is that many theaters showcase an excellent 2K image. The majority of blockbuster films are completed in 2K, with the occasional exception for IMAX releases, which hover around 4K. It's undeniable that 4K UHD is visually stunning in showrooms, especially when viewed up close. But for many, a standard HD TV, particularly those under 65 inches, would suffice. Interestingly, the noticeable boost in image quality in recent years isn't solely due to UHD. The introduction of QLED and HDR technologies, which became prominent after the phasing out of HD, contribute significantly more to image quality than just 4K resolution. So, while you're free to choose as you please, remember that discerning between 8K and 4K is nearly impossible for the average eye. These high resolutions are beneficial for broadcasting cameras, especially when zooming into sports replays. However, considering how much TV service providers compress videos for transmission, and given the limitations of human vision depending on screen distance and size, the differences often become negligible. As a cinematographer, I'm content with a top-notch 49″ HD TV in my living space. When it's time for a replacement, I'll opt for UHD, primarily because it's become the standard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qZzMg9p1HQ

Not all content is tailored to this exceptional resolution. Yet, fear not. The premier 8K TVs come equipped with robust processors adept at upscaling, enhancing the visuals of 4K and even HD content beyond their original quality. Alongside sophisticated picture refinement, these TVs—whether OLED, QLED, QD-OLED, or standard LED—also offer essential features seen in 4K variants, including user-friendly streaming interfaces and 120Hz panels optimized for gaming. Our guide delves into these facets for each model. Our seasoned reviewers have meticulously examined every TV on this list. While the absence of Dolby Vision might seem like a downside, the QN900C's HDR capabilities are so advanced that adding Dolby Vision might be superfluous. So, for those ready to invest in the future and desiring nothing but the best, the Samsung QN900C should be at the top of the list – assuming your pockets are deep enough.

With its mini-LED panel, the Z9K shines brightly, boasting impeccable detail and unrivaled color precision. As expected from a flagship Sony model, it's packed with advanced features: the Cognitive Processor XR ensures realistic visuals, the XR Backlight Master Drive delivers an impressive dynamic range without discernible halo or flare effects, and the Acoustic Multi-Audio provides immersive, directional sound. A standout feature, the Bravia Cam, gauges your seating position and tweaks both picture and audio for optimal viewing. While its performance is top-notch, the price tag might make some buyers think twice. Costing roughly around £8,000 / $10,000 / AU$15,000, it's a noticeable jump from Samsung's 8K offerings.
LG Z2: The Pinnacle of 8K OLED TVs PROS

And based on what we've seen, more companies should be venturing into this territory. The visuals are extraordinary, displaying colors and brightness levels typical of premium OLED displays, and the sound is remarkable given the TV's sleek design. So, why isn't this the number one pick? The grandeur of this TV is mirrored by its equally grand price. The 77-inch model demands a sum upwards of £10,000 / $12,000 / AU$19,000, positioning it at a higher price bracket than other TVs on our list. However, if your budget allows (and you've got the space for it), the LG Z2 epitomizes luxury home entertainment. It has improved from its predecessor in numerous ways: it's wall-mountable, boasts an even more powerful Alpha a9 processor with enhanced upscaling and tone mapping capabilities, offers superior surround sound, and provides an immersive depth of field for more lifelike visuals. The inclusion of four HDMI 2.1 ports is just the cherry on top. While there is a newer Z3 model offering even brighter visuals, we haven't had the chance for an in-depth review yet.
Samsung QN800B: A Budget-Friendly Entry into the 8K Realm PROS
- Sleek design complemented by the One Connect box - Vibrant, bright, and captivating visuals - Strong support for gamers CONS - Occasionally over-processed visuals - Uneven backlighting SPECIFICATIONS Brand NameSAMSUNGItem Weight68.8 poundsProduct Dimensions11.7 x 56.8 x 35.3 inchesItem model numberQN65QN800BFXZAColor NameStainless SteelSpecial Features100% Color Volume with Quantum Dot; HDR10+; Real Depth Enhancer; Works with Google Assistant and Alexa, Quantum Matrix Technology Pro; Neural Quantum Processor 8K; Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro; Infinity One DesignSpeaker Type4.2.2CH Amazon.com Price: $3,297.99 $2,597.95 Buy Samsung 65-Inch Class Neo QLED 8K QN800B The best 'cheap' 8K TVs: Samsung's QN800B stands out as an exceptional 8K offering. It boasts dedicated gaming capabilities, an expansive smart TV interface, commendable audio output, an external box for physical connections, a mini-LED display that ensures superior backlighting compared to traditional LCDs, and a design so slim it rivals the thinnest OLEDs available. The display is nothing short of magnificent. As noted in our review, the "TV shines with its bright display, commendable black levels for a backlit LCD, a rich color spectrum, and impressive edge-definition and motion handling." However, its backlight control does fall short compared to other top-tier non-8K TVs. Our tests revealed occasional inconsistencies in how the screen adjusts its brightness, resulting in variable viewing experiences. Another limitation arises when the TV upscales non-4K content, leading to potential display issues. This wouldn't be a significant concern if 8K content was widespread, but that's not the reality just yet. Its saving grace is its affordability. The 65-inch variant is priced around £2000 / $2531 / AU$3878, making it a relatively affordable 8K TV. While this price might be appealing, for 4K content, superior alternatives like the LG C2 and Sony A95K are available. Though we rank the Samsung QN900B as the top 8K option, the QN800B remains a worthy contender for those seeking quality without breaking the bank.
Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 8K: The Best of Today's 8K TVs PROS
- Enhanced backlight precision - Vibrant and accurate colors - Dolby Atmos integration for immersive sound CONS - No support for Dolby Vision - The revamped 'Smart Hub' UI feels like a downgrade - Scarce 8K content available SPECIFICATIONS Brand NameSAMSUNGItem Weight120.8 poundsProduct Dimensions13.4 x 73.9 x 45.1 inchesItem model numberCRT2SAMQN85QN900BRBBatteries2 Lithium Polymer batteries required.Color NameStainless SteelSpecial Features100% Color Volume with Quantum Dot; Real Depth Enhancer; HDR10+; Works with Google Assistant and Alexa, Quantum Matrix Technology; Neural Quantum Processor 8K; Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro; Quantum HDR 64xSpeaker Type6.2.4CH Amazon.com Price: $4,946.99 $3,897.95 Buy Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN900B Samsung's QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV revolutionizes home viewing with its cutting-edge mini-LED panel, offering unparalleled picture clarity, vivid colors, superior brightness, immersive audio, and remarkably deep blacks. Even when powered down, its elegant design remains a visual treat. The innovative 'Quantum' Mini LEDs, being 1/40th the size of traditional LEDs, allow the incorporation of thousands more LEDs into the backlight system. The result? Exquisite dimming zones and black levels that rival the best OLEDs in the market. These miniature LEDs promise meticulous accuracy, minimizing the blooming effect, which is when brighter sections overlap onto darker areas of the screen. In our testing, such an issue was non-existent. Further enhancing its prowess, the QN900B comes equipped with Samsung's Multi-Intelligence AI upscaling, ensuring images always surpass their original quality. However, not all is flawless. The updated Smart Hub UI, in an attempt to refresh Samsung's formerly seamless smart TV experience, feels more cumbersome. Direct adjustments to settings or toggling between view modes have become a bit tedious. While this hiccup is likely to be addressed soon, it's something to bear in mind for now.
Should You Buy 8K OLED TV?
Wondering whether to dive into the world of 8K OLED TVs or just pick a TV that boasts one of those features? There aren't a plethora of 8K OLED TVs in the market as of now, but a few models like the LG Z Series mentioned above and the 88-inch BeoVision Harmony we highlighted last year do exist. If your goal is to experience an awe-inspiring depth of detail on an expansive screen, 8K resolution is the way to go. However, it's essential to understand that the true advantage of 8K shines through only on larger screens. Ideally, to truly discern the difference between 8K and 4K, you'd need a sizable 77-inch / 88-inch screen or be relatively near to one of the top-tier 65-inch TVs. A smaller 55-inch 8K TV might not offer a noticeable difference. On the flip side, OLED TVs are known for their impeccable deep blacks and brilliant highlights – a feat challenging to achieve with traditional LCDs but becoming achievable with Mini LED backlights. Expect to witness vibrant colors and a level of brightness control that eliminates any unwanted light artifacts. In essence, if you're leaning towards reaping the benefits of only one of these technologies, it might not be economical or necessary to invest in both, especially considering the premium price tag.
Is 8K better than 4K?
8K screens boast a staggering 33 million pixels, quadrupling the pixel count of 4K screens. However, there's a noticeable scarcity of 'native' 8K content out there. And for lower-resolution videos to appear decent on an 8K screen, potent processing is essential. Does Netflix support 8K? Currently, standard streaming bandwidths can't accommodate 8K content, and major streaming platforms like Netflix don't offer it. However, as technology evolves, this scenario could very well change in the upcoming years.
Which 8K TV is the Most Wallet-Friendly?
The term "wallet-friendly" takes on a different meaning when discussing 8K TVs. They typically carry heftier price tags compared to their 4K counterparts, with some even soaring to five-figure price points. However, as the technology becomes more mainstream, prices are gradually decreasing, rendering top-tier 8K TVs more accessible. At present, considering both availability and value across the US and UK markets, Samsung stands out with its QN800B model. The 65-inch version is reasonably priced, averaging below £2,000. Older Samsung 8K models may be available at an even more reduced cost. However, you'd be compromising on the benefits of the newest tech advancements. In the world of televisions, even a year can bring significant changes. For the majority of consumers, we'd suggest holding off on investing in an 8K TV just yet due to the high costs associated with them. As with all emerging technologies, prices tend to decrease as the market evolves and competition intensifies. While 8K is a tantalizing prospect, it's currently best suited for early tech enthusiasts. For many of us, an 8K TV in our living rooms might still be a few years away.
How to choose the best 8K TV
Thinking of Buying an 8K TV? Here's What You Should Consider First: Before diving into the world of 8K TVs, you might want to pause and reflect: do you genuinely need one? While 8K is undeniably the direction in which TV technology is headed, and the availability of 8K content is gradually increasing, the current landscape might still lean favorably towards 4K TVs until more mainstream content is produced in 8K. Should you be set on experiencing the unparalleled clarity of 8K resolution, a key factor to prioritize is exceptional upscaling. Given that not all content is available in 8K currently, a TV that can adeptly enhance 4K or even HD content to near-8K quality should be on your wishlist. Size is another major consideration. Although the allure of a colossal screen is undeniable, especially when investing in 8K, it's imperative to strike a balance. While you'd want to maximize the immersive experience with a larger screen, ensure it aligns with the space constraints of your room, whether you're placing it on a stand or mounting it. Lastly, while many top-tier 8K TVs boast stellar built-in audio capabilities, to truly elevate your viewing experience to match the grandeur of 8K visuals, you might want to invest in a high-quality soundbar or surround sound system. Ensure the sound system complements the size of your TV; for instance, a massive TV will be better paired with a larger soundbar like the Sonos Arc. In essence, make sure the auditory experience is as breathtaking as the visual.
Which Brand Best in the 8K TV Arena?
Choosing the best in 8K TV tech largely boils down to individual tastes, but some models undoubtedly stand out. In our assessment, the Samsung QN900B Neo QLED takes the crown as the pinnacle of 8K TV offerings currently. Samsung's distinct QLED technology truly shines when delivering 8K resolution, and when coupled with its exceptional brightness capabilities, it becomes a top-tier viewing experience. Sustainable, innovative and smart: 3 trends at IFA 2023
Exciting technologies, entertainment solutions and the latest devices are IFA classics. But something has been added: the technology fair takes a closer look at the environment, resources and energy.
Fully booked: The IFA[1] (September 1 to 5) couldn't always claim that. But this year the 26 exhibition halls are completely occupied with 2059 exhibitors from 48 countries, according to the organisers.
The exhibition areas House of Robots and Sustainability Village are brand new at the IFA. This leaves no doubt as to what topics consumer electronics, household appliances and the like are currently dealing with. An overview of three trends under the Berlin radio tower:
1. Sustainability and renewable energy
Many new devices will be shown at the fair that contain reused or at least recyclable materials. Because in order to be able to survive in the saturated smartphone market, manufacturers need new sales arguments. The industry association and IFA co-organiser gfu[2] analyses that “sustainability is a key element in securing growth”.
The market researcher GfK has observed that manufacturers are now increasingly addressing environmental aspects, also in marketing: the most common issues are ecological packaging, recycled material in and the CO2 footprint of products.
Durable, repairable and recyclable
Of course, the longevity of devices must also be taken into account when considering sustainability, which depends to a large extent on software updates, basic repairability and the availability of spare parts. And devices should of course be recycled at the end of their life cycle.
The smartphone manufacturer Fairphone[3] has made these points its business model. The latest Fairphone 5, which costs 700 euros, can be seen at the IFA. It is largely made from recycled materials and, like its predecessors, has a modular structure so that you can repair it yourself with just a screwdriver.
The manufacturer's promise to deliver the next five operating system updates for the Android 13 device and eight years of security updates is downright spectacular.
The Harman brand JBL[4] uses fully recycled fabric, 85 percent recycled plastic and 50 percent recycled aluminum in its three new WiFi speakers. The design of the devices called Authentics evokes associations with the 1970s. They offer streaming support for Airplay and Chromecast, as well as room-specific, automatic sound optimization.
Two language assistants can be used at the same time
Brand new is the possibility of using two different language assistants more or less simultaneously, namely Amazon's Alexa and Google's Assistant, which even cooperate for this purpose. The top model Authentics 500 (630 euros) also delivers Dolby Atmos surround sound.
Renewable energies are also a hot topic at the fair, especially for consumers in the form of small solar power plants. The manufacturer Technaxx,[5] for example, has developed a table (700 euros) for balconies and terraces, the top of which consists of solar modules that deliver up to 410 watts when the table is not in use. And Jackery[6] brought the solar generator 300 Plus (450 euros) to Berlin. It consists of a small, foldable 40-watt solar panel with a battery station for storing electricity.
2. Display and audio innovations
According to GfK, high-quality products with innovative features are also in demand. This is clearly evident in new TVs with OLED displays, but also in general in new TVs with innovative features. Some of these will be presented at the IFA, such as the Auracast technology[7].
Auracast makes it possible to stream the sound from a device wirelessly via Bluetooth to any number of nearby receivers, such as headphones, at the same time. So far, this has worked via Bluetooth with a maximum of two receivers at the same time.
Samsung has announced corresponding updates for current smart TVs (2023 Neo-QLED and Micro-LED series) and the in-ear headphones Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. And Philips is bringing the technology to its new Fidelio L4 headphones and Fidelio T2 in-ears. Generally, devices must support Bluetooth 5.3 with Low Energy (LE) audio to play Auracast,
Things are also working at Dolby[8]: the audio laboratory is demonstrating Atmos Flexconnect[9] in Berlin, a new technology that expands the TV sound system with wirelessly connected additional speakers. The Atmos spatial sound is then to be intelligently adapted to each room and each box placement and performance. From 2024, cooperation partner TCL[10] will supply compatible televisions, as well as the necessary loudspeakers.
The technology company Xperi[11] is setting up a similar system with DTS Play-Fi Home Theater. Compatible TVs should come from Philips first by 2024.
New camping TV with WiFi
Speaking of televisions: they usually run on 220 volts at home from the socket. Because campers on the road can do very little with this tension, Thomson builds a camping TV (24 or 32 inches) with WLAN that can be hung on the caravan wall or placed on the camping table with two adjustable feet but also runs with 12 or 24 volt on-board power.
LG has also come up with the lifestyle display Stanbyme Go[12] for on the go, which comes with a speaker system in a stylish case and has rechargeable batteries for up to three hours of operation. When you open the case, the adjustable screen turns on automatically. Laid flat on the table, digital board games also run on the touch display. Otherwise, videos, films or music can be streamed from the smartphone to the suitcase display without any problems.
And the IFA would not be the IFA if there were no gigantic new televisions to see: Under the motto "Big in Berlin", Samsung is presenting two new 98-inch models (4K QLED Q80C and 8K Neo QLED QNC990), which with their almost 2 .50 meters screen diagonal are now really wall-filling.
The new Samsung projector "The Freestyle 2"[13] offers even more powerful images but saves space. Couple two of these together and you get a 120-inch portrait image and a 160-inch landscape image, which should result in a huge 21:9 cinema screen horizontally.
3. Connected and smart living
The Sustainability Village also houses the House of Smart Living, which focuses on intelligent energy control and automation of devices and buildings. A lot here revolves around the smart home standard Matter,[14] which has been ready for almost a year.
Matter is now waiting to be integrated into as many devices as possible so that they can be easily set up via QR code, used across manufacturers and combined. Technically, Matter is based on LAN, WLAN, the Thread network protocol and partly on Bluetooth LE (from version 4.2).
For a long time, consumers had to commit themselves to one smart home provider and its components. But now the chances for Matter are good in the smart home world, which has so far been fragmented in terms of standards. Amazon, Apple, Google, LG and Samsung are also active in the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA)[15], which has several hundred member companies and has defined Matter.
These manufacturers have already made many of their devices, from televisions to smart displays, as well as their operating systems and smart home apps, fit for Matter so that compatible switches, door locks, sensors and lamps, as well as household appliances from a wide variety of manufacturers, can be controlled via these control centres can.
Or smart sockets: a switchable WLAN socket for 15 euros is the first Matter product from accessories specialist Hama. Admittedly a simple part, but one with which almost any device can be integrated into the smart home.
There is also news from Signifiy[16], whose smart Philips Hue lights are widely used. The manufacturer is adding security cameras and a contact sensor for doors, windows or cupboards to its range, but above all has announced Matter compatibility for autumn 2023: for all Hue products via the Philips Hue Bridge[17].

[1] The IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (International radio exhibition Berlin, a.k.a. 'Berlin Radio Show') is one of the oldest industrial exhibitions in Germany. Between 1924 and 1939 it was an annual event, but from 1950 it was held every other year until 2005. Since then it has become an annual event again, held in September. Today it is one of world's leading trade shows for consumer electronics and home appliances.
[2] Eleven leading consumer electronics companies founded gfu in 1973. The name of the organisation at that time was also its goal: The Society for the Promotion of Consumer Electronics in Germany. Since then, many companies in the home appliance industry have become gfu’s partners, reflecting the changes in the industry. This also prompted the company name to change to gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH.

[12] Few people will go on holiday and put a television in their suitcase. Still, there may well be a market for the LG StanbyMe Go, a television that is equipped with AirPlay 2 and is already built into a case as standard. It will be on sale in the United States from August and in Europe from September. This television is remarkable: it is a 27-inch 1080p LED touchscreen TV with a built-in battery that lasts up to three hours. There are also 20 Watt speakers. The size is a bit small, but the specs are very reasonable: the StanbyMe Go offers support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, something you often only see with the better TVs.
[13] Samsung’s original Freestyle portable projector had a ton of promise, but it really fell apart in the execution and was severely overpriced for the hardware specs on offer. Still, the blueprint was encouraging, and it seemed like just the kind of product that Samsung could nail the second time around — or so I hoped. But back at CES in January, the company showed off a barely changed revision of the Freestyle that addressed virtually none of my quibbles with the original. It was updated with Samsung’s latest TV software, which meant owners would be able to access the Gaming Hub and various cloud gaming services from Xbox, Nvidia, and more. Samsung also demonstrated a neat “smart edge blending” trick whereby you could combine two Freestyle projectors for a massive 150-inch picture. https://www.theverge.com/2023/8/17/23835667/samsung-freestyle-gen-2-portable-projector-now-available
[14] Matter originated from the Zigbee Alliance, a protocol that users of Philips Hue lamps, for example, have been familiar with for some time. Matter allows devices to communicate with each other, regardless of who the manufacturer is. Apple, Google and Amazon have had a partnership since 2019 under the name 'CHIP'. Matter originated from this group. Matter will ensure that almost all your smart home devices work together seamlessly.
[15] The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), formerly the Zigbee Alliance, is a group of companies that maintain and publish the Zigbee and Matter standard, along with several others. The name Zigbee is a registered trademark of this group, and is not a single technical standard. The organization publishes application profiles that allow multiple OEM vendors to create interoperable products. The relationship between IEEE 802.15.4 and Zigbee is similar to that between IEEE 802.11 and the Wi-Fi Alliance.
[16] Signify N.V., formerly known as Philips Lighting N.V., is a Dutch multinational lighting corporation formed in 2016 as a result of the spin-off of the lighting division of Philips, by means of an I.P.O.[2] The company manufactures electric lights, light fixtures and control systems for consumers, professionals and the IoT. In 2018, Philips Lighting changed its name to Signify. The company still produces lights under the Philips brand.
[17] The Hue Bridge is the brain of the Philips Hue smart lighting system. You can connect up to fifty lamps and accessories with it. Plug it in and use the Hue app to set routines, timers, custom light scenes and much more.
