Bollywood Movies Part CLXXXI: The Mollywood Takeover Part XXIII

5 Sundarikal is a collection of short films about love. In Sethulakshmi the title character (Baby Anikha) is a girl who collects wedding announcement photos and decides to take one with her friend Abhilash (Chetan Jayalal). In Isha Jinu (Nivin Pauly) meets Isha (Isha Sharvani) after breaking into her house and finds her strangely cooperative. In Gauri Gauri (Kavya Madhavan) follows the romantic clues her husband Jonathan (Biju Menon) has left on their first wedding anniversary, only for tragedy to strike. In Kullante Bharya a neighborhood marvels when a tall woman (Reenu Mathews) and her much shorter husband (Jinu Ben) move in. In Aami Ajmaal (Fahadh Faasil) goes on a business venture at night, while his wife (Asmita Sood) gives him riddles to solve.

TW for movie: child abuse (Sethulakshmi), suicide (Gauri). Of these short films, I liked Kullante Bharya and Isha best. Dulquer Salmaan’s narration really gives Kullante Bharya life. Both of the child actors in Sethulakshmi give wonderful performances. Overall a decent collection of short films. Favorite songs are Manthara Katte, Mazhaneer, and Ekantham. None of the songs have subtitles.

Kasi (Dulquer Salmaan) and Suni (Sunny Wayne) go on a road trip from Kerala to Nagaland to find Assi (Surja Bala), the woman Kasi loves. As Suni and Kasi travel, they meet a wide variety of that they help and who help them in turn.

Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi is an amazing road trip movie that also deals with social and political issues. The main driving force of this movie is Kasi and Suni’s friendship and it is performed wonderfully by Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne. I especially enjoyed how the film got actors from Bengali and Manipuri cinema, such as Surja Bala and Dhritiman Chatterjee who was good as village leader Bimalda. Favorite songs are Thaazhvaaram, Neerpalungukal, and Neelaksham. None of the songs have subtitles.

Karthi (Dulquer Salmaan) and Riya (Malavika Mohanan) elope, fight, and return to their respective homes. Their refusal to reconcile leads their fathers (Jayaprakash and Lalu Alex) to conspire to bring them together.

Pattam Pole is about two stupid kids who can’t get over themselves and communicate. The movie is boring and predictable. I did like Archana as coworker Sherin. The actors were good but they could not make the story more interesting. Favorite songs are Antha Naalil and Mazhaye Thoomazhaye. Neither song has subtitles.
