Travel Assistance For the Elderly
Tumblr media
Travel and accommodation costs can add up quickly when you have to go away for treatment. Fortunately, most states and territories have schemes to help with these expenses.
An accommodation subsidy can be paid to cover the cost of commercial accommodation. It is also possible for an escort to be reimbursed. To know more about Travel Assistance Brisbane, visit the Maximum Support Services website or call 1300983885.
There are a range of free or reduced cost public transport options available to help primary school students travel to and from school. Students can find out more about these services and how to apply at the School Student Transport Scheme website.
Eligible children can also get a grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements to attend the nearest suitable school or TAFE. These grants are only paid when there is not enough space on existing government contracted bus, ferry or rail services for eligible students.
A student can only receive transport assistance if they reside more than the legal walking distance or qualifying distance (the straight line/walking distance measured over the shortest practical road route) from their school and they are not able to walk to or from school because of disability, special educational needs or mobility problems, even if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The safety and supervision of a child travelling to and from school is the responsibility of their parents or guardians.
The Seniors Card is a free program that connects you with hundreds of local businesses that support older people in our community. The program offers public transport concessions and discounts, as well as short term and exclusive special offers. It also provides members with access to information and resources online. These include the annual Seniors Card Discount Directory and WeekendPlus, a fortnightly digital magazine.
Getting a card is easy - just apply online. If you’re a new applicant, there are only a few questions to answer and you can check your eligibility at the same time. You can also update your details, upgrade or replace your card.
The Seniors Card is an Australian State and Territory government initiative supported by local businesses. It is available to permanent residents of Australia, aged 60 and over, who are fully retired or work less than 35 hours a week. The card is not a welfare or health card and does not offer government benefits.
A range of Queensland Government concessions can help ease cost of living pressures. The Seniors Card and Seniors Card +go offer business discounts, free access to the Senior Shopper service, and a 50% discount on public transport and long distance train and ferry services. The electricity Life Support Concession assists with the costs of using equipment such as home-based oxygen concentrators and kidney dialysis machines. Concessions are available to help with the cost of reticulated natural gas, and motor vehicle and recreational boat registration. The Spectacle Subsidy Scheme gives concession card holders a pair of basic prescription spectacles, once every two years. To know more about Travel Assistance Brisbane, visit the Maximum Support Services website or call 1300983885.
A rental grant helps people in housing crisis to overcome short-term financial barriers and strengthen their tenancy skills in the private rental market. There are also training opportunities for Queenslanders to study priority skill sets, certificates and diplomas at TAFE and CQUniversity. Those who need personal care can receive assistance with cleaning, bathing and shopping through in-home community supports.

How Your Assistance Program May Cover Travel and Transport Expenses
In some cases, your assistance program may arrange for and pay for transport to a local hospital or home when deemed medically necessary by a physician designated by the company. This is called medical evacuation and/or repatriation.
Ask the person for a list of transit options in the town where they live and their doctor. Gather notes and prepare to call back with information.
Emergency Medical Transportation
If you’re injured in a situation where you need to be flown to the nearest hospital, your emergency medical transportation benefits can pay for this flight. This service is available for international flights on a select number of airlines.
Tumblr media
Non-emergency medical transportation, also known as NEMT, is a professional service that schedules and assistance travel and transport patients to and from appointments with doctors or other health providers. These services are typically used for patients who don’t have access to other forms of transportation, such as those without a driver’s license or vehicle, live in rural areas, or are unable to arrange rides from friends and family due to physical or cognitive challenges.
NEMT can be covered by Medicare, though you must have a doctor’s written order dated before the trip. VEYO’s Assistance team can assist with obtaining this medically necessary documentation. There are several different types of NEMT, such as wheelchair vans, ambulances, and helicopters. Basic life support (BLS) ambulances have medical personnel on board to help with medical emergencies during transit, while air ambulances can transport people over longer distances.
Pay for Your Children to Travel Home
If your co-parent or child’s other legal guardian moves away, you may be able to have the court factor in travel expenses for visitation. This can cover airfare, train or bus fare, gas, hotels, meals and other related expenses.
Nonemergency transportation services, like rides to a doctor's office or dentist's office, hospital or drug store. Travel expenses for children and youth 20 and younger who are staying overnight to receive covered health care services.
IHDS provides assistance with travel and transport as part of a package of support to help participants achieve their plan goals. It is not available as a standalone service. This means that it is based on the specific needs and circumstances of each participant. We can also provide bespoke training and support to enable participants to use public transport independently. We have already trained over 183 young people. Alternatively, we can arrange for a support worker to accompany you when you use transport services.

The Role of Travel and Transport Assistance in the Disability Community
Tumblr media
NDIS participants with impairments find accessing easy travel and transport options exceptionally challenging. NDIS aims to alleviate the worries of participants and provide easy transport options to individuals. If you are wondering what is the role of travel and transport in the community, here is how it works –
Paratransit
People with impairments who cannot use public transportation can use paratransit, a door-to-door transportation service. The majority of the time, nonprofit or governmental entities run paratransit services. Disability Transport Service in Sydney is excellent in offering paratransit options.
Taxis And Vans That Are Accessible
These vehicles include ramps or lifts to provide room for passengers using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
Transportation Subsidies
Some public and nonprofit organisations provide transportation subsidies for individuals with impairments. These initiatives may assist in lowering the price of transport for those with impairments.
Volunteer Transportation Programmes
Some volunteer transportation programmes offer trips to disabled individuals who cannot afford or utilise other forms of transportation or use public transit infrequently.
The Benefits of Travel and Transport Assistance for Participants
Increased Independence: With travel transportation, persons with impairments may travel on their own and without the need for rides from others. NDIS provider Travel Transport Assistance in Sydney is the best for achieving independence.
Better Quality Of Life: Access to transport services enables persons with impairments to participate in vital activities, including work, school, appointments and social gatherings.
Lessening Of Isolation: With the use of travel support, persons with impairments may continue to interact with friends, family, and their communities.
Easy Commutation: Travel transportation support makes it possible for persons with impairments to commute to and from work, which can result in more job prospects.
By implementing these actions, we can make it easier for persons with impairments to get travel assistance, allowing them to live freely and actively engage in their communities.

How to Choose the Right Short Term Accommodation Provider under the NDIS?
Choosing the right short term accommodation provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be a daunting task. However, it is crucial to choose the right provider to ensure that the participant's needs are met, and their stay is comfortable and enjoyable. Here are some factors to consider when choosing the right short term accommodation provider under the NDIS:
Services provided: The first thing to consider is the services provided by the provider. Does the provider offer the type of accommodation that you need? Do they provide the level of support and care that you require?
Experience and expertise: It is important to choose a provider with experience and expertise in providing short term accommodation to NDIS participants. Providers with experience in the industry are likely to have a good understanding of the needs of NDIS participants and the support required to make their stay comfortable.
Staff qualifications and training: The staff at the accommodation provider should be appropriately qualified and trained to provide the necessary support and care to NDIS participants. Ask the provider about their staff qualifications and training programs.
Quality of accommodation: Check the quality of the accommodation provided by the provider. Is it clean and well-maintained? Are there appropriate facilities and equipment to support the participant's needs?
Location: Consider the location of the short term accommodation provider. Is it close to the participant's home, family and support networks, and any necessary medical facilities?
Reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and testimonials from other NDIS participants who have stayed at the accommodation provider. These can provide valuable insights into the quality of the services and support provided.
Cost: Finally, consider the cost of the short term accommodation. Is it within your budget? Does the provider offer any additional services or packages that may be of benefit to you?
By considering these factors, you can choose the best ndis travel & transportation service provider in Melbourne, ensuring that you or your loved one's stay is comfortable, safe and enjoyable.

A Guide to NDIS Transport Services in Sydney
Navigating Sydney can be challenging for individuals living with disabilities. Thankfully, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides transport support, making it easier for participants to access the services they need, whether it’s attending medical appointments, going to work, or participating in social activities.
What is NDIS Transport Support?
NDIS transport services are designed to assist individuals with disabilities who are unable to use public transport independently. This service provides financial support to help participants access taxis, community transport, or other private transportation options. Transport funding under NDIS is tailored to an individual’s needs, making travel around Sydney much more accessible.
Types of NDIS Transport Support
NDIS offers three levels of transport funding, depending on the participant's individual needs and circumstances:
Level 1: For participants who are not working, studying, or actively seeking employment, but who need to access the community for low-intensity activities like attending appointments.
Level 2: For participants who engage in part-time work or study, and require moderate support to access transport services.
Level 3: For participants engaged in full-time employment, education, or volunteering, who require substantial transport assistance due to their frequent travel needs.
NDIS Transport Providers in Sydney
Sydney is home to a range of NDIS-registered transport providers who offer tailored services to meet participants’ needs. These providers offer reliable and safe travel options, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles and support from trained drivers. Some popular NDIS transport services in Sydney include:
Taxis and Rideshare: Many NDIS participants use taxis or rideshare services, such as Uber, with financial assistance from the NDIS.
Community Transport: A cost-effective and reliable option, especially for traveling to medical appointments or social events.
Specialist Disability Transport Services: These services offer trained drivers, accessible vehicles, and more personalized travel support for those with specific needs.
How to Access NDIS Transport Services
To access NDIS transport funding, participants must have this support outlined in their NDIS plan. If transport assistance is not currently part of your plan, you can request a review to include it. NDIS planners will assess your mobility needs and determine the level of funding required based on your lifestyle and travel demands.
Benefits of NDIS Transport Services
Independence: Transport services help individuals travel without relying on family or caregivers, fostering greater independence.
Accessibility: From wheelchair-accessible vehicles to community transport, these services ensure that all participants can travel safely.
Flexibility: Participants can choose the transport provider that best suits their needs, ensuring they have control over how they travel.
Conclusion
NDIS transport services play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in Sydney. Whether you're traveling to work, social events, or medical appointments, the NDIS offers flexible transport solutions to meet your needs. By providing reliable, safe, and accessible transportation, NDIS empowers participants to engage more fully in their communities.

NDIS Daily Living
NDIS Daily living focuses on supporting personal activities that promote participant autonomy in their home and community. Allied health assessments conducted by NDIS-registered professionals can help you prepare for your planning meeting and provide the necessary documentation to secure funding.
The NDIS framework also includes Capacity Building, which prioritizes enhancing your skills and capabilities. This enables you to navigate your life independently.
Core Supports
Core Supports help participants meet their basic needs, work towards their goals and connect to the community. They include funding for things such as daily assistance with personal care, household cleaning and gardening, as well as equipment and transport services.
Improved daily living funding helps participants with the assessments, training and therapy that increase their independence and ability to participate in activities at home or in the community. This includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychology.
Consumables funding covers the purchase of items that you use on a regular basis such as continence aids and nutritional supplements. It also helps you pay for non-reusable expenses such as taxi rides to and from appointments.
The core supports budget is the most flexible of all the four funding categories in your plan. You can move funds between the different support categories at any time without having to review your plan. Your support coordinator can help you understand the flexibility of each support category and find creative ways to make your funds go further.
Capacity Building
Capacity building supports focus on providing participants with training and activities that build skills for independence, self-care and community participation. They also include support services that help participants manage their finances or job-seeking and daily living activities.
Travel training to teach participants how to navigate public transport and complete tasks independently. Social interaction and communication skills workshops to improve daily interactions with others. Technology skills workshops to learn how to use devices to manage everyday tasks.
This category includes a number of different types of support, including assistive technology and home modifications. However, funding allocated to this category is not flexible and can only be claimed for a specific support identified in your plan goals.
For example, an NDIS dietician can be provided to provide dietary advice and educate participants on how their diet affects their health and wellbeing. This can be a vital component of an individual’s daily living needs and can be claimed from the capacity building budget.
Improved Daily Living
The Improved Daily Living support budget provides NDIS participants with the resources they need to live a more independent life. It includes assessment, training and strategy development services. It also covers the costs of assistive technologies and devices that aid independence, as well as home modifications and assistive supports.
NDIS Improved Daily Living funds can also be used to provide therapy services for the people who care for a person with a disability. For example, Active Ability’s dietitians and exercise physiology can help a person with autism and intellectual disability learn to accept a more varied diet and gain better overall health.
Other therapy activities funded by this category include learning how to cook healthy meals, basic cleaning techniques or a vegetable garden. It can also cover the cost of community, social and recreational activities, although tickets for events like concerts or sporting matches are likely to fall into Capacity Building (Category 9) instead. Ultimately, the type of support provided by this NDIS category will be determined on a case-by-case basis during planning meetings.
Eligibility
Daily living supports help participants get the most out of their lives. They can include personal care such as bathing and dressing, assistance with household tasks like cooking, cleaning and laundry to create a comfortable home environment, and transport assistance to access their community.
Eligibility for this support is assessed based on the impact of a participant’s disability and how it affects their ability to manage life activities. To qualify, a participant must have a permanent and significant disability that affects their daily functioning.
To receive daily living support, a participant will work with their Local Area Coordinator, Support Co-ordinator and NDIS planner to identify the supports they need in their plan. Once these are in place, they can start to receive the benefits of this funding. Supports will be reviewed and amended as circumstances change, ensuring they continue to meet the participants’ needs.

Travel Assistance in Australia
Tumblr media
The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme helps pay for the costs of accessing specialist medical services that are not available locally. It covers accommodation, airfares and an escort where necessary.
NDIS participants can choose an agency-managed, plan-managed or self-managed provider to get the best out of their NDIS transport funding and live a more empowered life. A range of concessions are also available, including a discount on bus and ferry services. To know more about Travel Assistance Brisbane, visit the Maximum Support Services website or call 1300983885.
PTSS provides financial assistance for travel expenses if you need to visit an approved medical specialist. To qualify for the scheme, you must have been referred by a doctor. It is important to remember that PTSS does not cover all your travel costs, so you should have other income sources to help pay for your trip.
Eligible patients must live in Queensland and have a valid Medicare card to access the scheme. This includes permanent residents of the state, patients who are visiting the country for holidays, and those receiving assistance from a third party (e.g. WorkCover, Department of Veterans Affairs, Motor Accident Insurance Commission or private health insurance).
The PTSS Guideline also specifies instances where a patient cannot access a PTSS subsidy, such as when they can get the same treatment locally through Telehealth. However, confusion with the guideline has resulted in HSDs applying a range of administrative rules when assessing PTSS applications, contributing to inconsistent and inequitable decision-making.
Travellers Aid is a network of social service agencies, airports, and train stations that share a common goal of providing a safety net to people who are stranded. Their services are free of charge and include concierge assistance, emergency medical support, and accommodations. Travelers Aid members offer a variety of programs based on their funding, resources, and location. These programs can include shelter for the homeless, job training, housing assistance, and local transportation assistance.
The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) is a government-funded program that assists Queensland residents to pay for travel expenses when travelling to access specialist healthcare. PTSS is available for Queenslanders who are referred by a clinician and live in rural, regional, or remote areas. Those who do not meet the criteria for a PTSS subsidy can apply to their state or territory of residence for a grant. For more information on the PTSS and eligibility criteria, visit the Queensland Government website.
Qantas can help you with travel expenses when you are travelling overseas. You can contact the Mastercard Qantas Travel Money Global Support team on 1300 825 302 (from within Australia) or +61 1300 825 302 (if you are overseas). You can receive emergency cash disbursements if your card is lost or stolen.
Qantas is an Australian airline founded in 1920. It is the oldest airline in the world, and it continues to be a leader in aviation. Its network includes domestic flights throughout Australia and international destinations across Asia, Oceania, and Europe. The company also operates Jetstar, its low-fare subsidiary.
You can book a flight with Qantas online or by phone. You can also use your credit card to pay for services. A service fee applies for bookings made by phone. The service fee can be paid by EMD or agency credit card. You can view the details of the fee on the Qantas website.
NDIS participants can use their plan funding to cover a wide variety of travel expenses. These include transportation assistance, specialized travel arrangements, and support workers who accompany participants during their journeys. This allows individuals to maintain their independence and access social activities, work, education, and healthcare services.
Terri uses her NDIS transport funds to pay for a regular taxi service that takes her to and from her monthly chess club meeting. This is a vital element of her Plan because it helps her meet her goals related to social and community participation. To know more about Travel Assistance Brisbane, visit the Maximum Support Services website or call 1300983885.
If your local specialist has referred you to another specialist and you need to travel long distances, you may be eligible for financial assistance through the NDIS. The clinic staff will help you register for the scheme and complete your first claim form. Be sure to keep receipts for all costs. Also, make sure that you have proof of attendance from the specialist clinic or hospital.

NDIS Transport Services | melbourneeternity.com.au
NDIS transport services are an important part of your disability support funding. They help you travel around your community and access social events and appointments. The transport service can also provide specialized equipment to meet your mobility needs.
The three new transport support levels offer different types of transport assistance. Read on to learn more about these services:
Private transport
NDIS participants can receive transport assistance from a variety of providers. They can get taxis and customised vehicles to help them get from one location to another. The NDIS also provides funding for the modification of personal vehicles.
Tumblr media
There are three levels of NDIS transport services allowances based on annual budgets. Level 1 allows a participant to access up to $1,606 each year. Level 2 allows a participant to access up to $2,472 each year. And level 3 allows a participant to access up to $3,456 each year.
Besides transportation, NDIS participants can also use their funds for other activities to build confidence. For instance, they can use the money to hire support workers to accompany them on trips to the park, library, restaurant and other relaxing destinations. These activities can help break up the monotony of daily routine and boost self-esteem.
Community transport
NDIS participants often use community transport services to get to their destinations. These can include chauffeur-driven cars, vans or buses that accommodate wheelchair users. They are equipped with ramps and other wheelchair parking provisions to help people with disabilities access vehicles and travel more easily. You can also request for support workers to accompany you on your journeys. This type of service usually falls under the ‘Assistance with Social and Community Participation’ sub-category in Core Supports.
Another option is shared transport, which allows you to travel with other passengers who have the same destination in mind. These vehicles are typically large and can accommodate multiple passengers at once. They make fewer stops than private vehicles, and can be especially useful if you have multiple appointments or need to make several trips.
Shared transport
NDIS participants who are in need of help to move around can take advantage of community transport assistance. This is similar to carpooling and is usually offered in larger vehicles, including buses with wheelchair access. It can be used to go shopping, visit doctors or even attend parties.
Getting around is essential for NDIS participants, especially when they need to make appointments and attend social activities. This is why it’s important to have a disability support provider that can provide transportation services. These services can include providing specialised vehicles, paying for transport costs, and organising support workers to accompany you on trips.
NDIS core support funding aims to help participants become more independent. One of these goals is building independence with public transport, which can be achieved through NDIS funded capacity-building exercises and training. It can also be accomplished by allowing participants to travel with friends or family members. It can also be done through a taxi subsidy scheme, or by paying for modifications on private cars.
Support worker transport
NDIS participants often require NDIS transport providers assistance to attend their preferred locations. These destinations may include work, community activities, or medical appointments. This service can be provided in a variety of ways, including taxis, private cars, or specialised vehicles. The NDIS also provides support to learn how to use public transportation and how to navigate transportation barriers.
This type of support is often included in a participant’s core supports package under the Assistance with Social and Community Participation category. The NDIA will only fund transportation services if they are necessary to achieve a participant’s goals.
To ensure that the NDIS doesn’t pay for unnecessary travel costs, it suggests a maximum per-kilometre rate. This cost should include petrol prices, road tolls, parking fees, and vehicle maintenance. For this reason, it is best to use an NDIScompatible invoicing software to speed up the process.

NDIS Daily Activities - Empowering Participants to Overcome Barriers and Maximise Independence
NDIS daily activities provide essential support, empowering participants to overcome barriers and maximise independence. It is a highly collaborative framework between participants, service providers, and the NDIA.
Capacity Building (CB) NDIS daily activities are funded under the core support budget and include things like cooking workshops, money management training, and travel assistance.
Assistance with Daily Living
The ability to perform daily tasks, manage time, and communicate effectively can be difficult for people with disabilities. With NDIS assistance, these daily activities become more accessible and can lead to a variety of positive outcomes including greater participation, reduced carer burden, and increased opportunities for personal growth and independence.
If you have a disability report or doctor’s letter saying that you require assistance with your daily tasks, talk to your NDIS planner about including this support in your plan. Depending on the situation, this may be funded under the Improved Daily Living or Capacity Building (CB) support categories, which you can check in your NDIS plan PDF and Myplace portal.
The level and type of supports a participant receives is determined on a case-by-case basis, with each plan incorporating a range of supports from different service providers. This flexibility acknowledges that the needs of each participant are unique and provides an adaptive framework ensuring high-quality and tailored support.
Core Supports
NDIS daily activities services focus on developing and building life skills crucial for navigating various aspects of everyday living. This includes therapies like occupational therapy and physiotherapy, as well as community and centre-based activities such as sports and camps. This also includes travel assistance to recreation events when it’s unreasonable for friends or family to take you or when public transport isn’t an option.
NDIA daily activities service providers offer high-quality, individualized support that aligns with participants’ goals and preferences. As a result, they foster independence and help participants navigate their lives autonomously.
It’s essential to understand what your core supports budget can pay for, especially as it is the most flexible of the three funding categories. It’s also a good idea to identify the areas of your life you want support with, including what services and providers are available in your area. You can then compare service providers to find the one that best meets your needs.
Capacity Building (CB) Daily Activities
Often mentioned as ‘NDIS Improved Daily Living’ in your MyPlace or NDIS plan portal, the CB daily activities or ndis daily personal activities NDIS budget category includes a strong emphasis on therapies and professional services that assist with building life skills. These include occupational therapy, physiotherapy and life skills training.
These activities help participants become more self-reliant in their daily lives. They might involve preparing meals in the kitchen or taking public transport for the first time. They could also be about managing money and gaining the confidence to engage in community activity.
The NDIS takes a flexible approach to daily personal activities, allowing participants to tailor their support to their goals and circumstances. This flexibility is supported by regular plan reviews to ensure that the support delivered continues to align with the participant’s individualized needs. As a result, the support offered will be relevant and effective. This helps empower participants and promotes inclusivity.
Communication
Daily tasks like bathing, grooming, and dressing can present a challenge for people with disabilities. This is why NDIS daily activities focuses on facilitating self-care and enabling participants to fulfil these essential functions independently.
Moreover, it provides assistance for attending medical or therapy appointments and helps manage expenses related to food and toiletries. NDIS daily activities also facilitates participation in civic and recreational events, thereby helping participants lead active lifestyles and cultivate meaningful relationships.
At the heart of NDIS daily activity assistance is a collaborative effort between participants, support networks, and service providers. Clear communication between stakeholders facilitates a shared understanding of each participant’s needs and goals, allowing for the flexibility to modify support services accordingly. This ensures that the overall aim of NDIS daily activities remains intact, promoting inclusivity and fostering independence.

NDIS Assistance With Daily Living
Daily living is a core support category under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It includes personal care and household chores that help promote independence.
These services also encourage community engagement, helping individuals connect with others and participate in various activities and programs. This reduces isolation and builds confidence.
Capacity Building funds can be used to train family members, caregivers, and friends who provide assistance with daily living. This helps them improve their skills and increase confidence in providing care.
Personal care
NDIS daily living support services are highly individualized and tailored to participants’ needs and goals. These services help them become more self-sufficient and improve their quality of life. They also promote community engagement and foster a sense of belonging.
Personal care includes helping ndis assistance with daily living, groom, bathe, and eat. It may also include assistance with daily tasks such as navigating the home and getting to appointments or social activities. This can be done by friends, family members, or professional support workers.
A good way to find an NDIS daily living support service provider is through word-ofmouth or recommendations from other participants. It is also important to research providers carefully and read online reviews. You can also consult your local NDIS support coordinator to make sure you have the right plan in place. They can help you identify what is and isn’t covered by your NDIS funds. They can also connect you with relevant service providers to ensure a network of trusted assistance.
Transportation
Daily living support can be provided in a variety of ways, including cooking and cleaning skills to help participants maintain their homes and live more independently. It can also include travel training and transportation assistance. The level, type, and cost of daily living support vary from participant to participant, but the NDIS aims to meet each individual’s needs as much as possible.
Generally, daily living support is a subcategory of Capacity Building support and is funded through the Core Supports budget. However, it can also be included as a separate support item if your NDIS plan includes a Community Participation budget.
You can receive general transport assistance through your NDIS plan if you are unable to use public transport or a private car without substantial difficulty due to your disability. In this service, you will be accompanied by a support worker who will drive you around town in their vehicle. You can also get this support through a community transport group that uses large vehicles to pick up multiple people.
Household chores
The NDIS provides support for daily activities, including household chores. While this category is a little different than the one for improved daily living under Capacity Building, they are both vital to helping participants maintain healthy lifestyles.
The Household Tasks support service connects participants with experienced NDIS providers who can assist with a wide range of domestic tasks. Some of these include cleaning, cooking, dishwashing, and changing bed linens. The service also offers support with laundry and organising living spaces.
Having a clean and organised living environment has many benefits. Not only does it boost the participant’s self-esteem, but it also contributes to their overall wellbeing. Additionally, it allows them to spend more time socialising and pursuing hobbies and interests.
NDIS funding for household chores is decided on a case-by-case basis and will depend on the type of assistance you need. To qualify, you must provide evidence like disability reports or doctor recommendations. You should also discuss any changes in your needs during your NDIS planning meeting.
Community engagement
Whether it’s attending a ndis respite accommodation event or getting support to travel, the NDIS helps participants engage with their local communities. Known as the Improved Daily Living NDIS support category, this budget can be used for any services that help you build independence and improve your daily functioning.
It can include activities like learning how to cook, developing cleaning skills, or even setting up a vegetable garden. It also includes training and workshops that teach real-life skills that will help you live more independently, such as travel training or time management coaching.
Those services can be booked through the myplace portal or your NDIS planner. To book, first talk to your NDIS planner and provide any letters or advice from therapists that say you need the service. Then, decide how you want to manage your funding and choose providers that match your needs. You can also schedule regular plan reviews to ensure that your services align with your goals.

NDIS Travel Assistance
If you have a disability and want to gain independence in travelling, the NDIS can provide assistance. This blog post will explore the different NDIS travel assistance and transport supports, provisions, and benefits.
NDIS Providers can claim worker travel time using the relevant support line item in either bulk upload or individual payment requests. This guide will distinctly distinguish between Provider travel and Participant transport.
Adaptive vehicles
NDIS participants often require assistance with transporting themselves to and from medical appointments, therapy sessions, and social events. Fortunately, the scheme offers funding for a wide range of travel and transport services to help overcome these barriers.
The process for acquiring transport support begins with an NDIS plan development meeting. During this meeting, you work with a planner or local area coordinator to identify your goals and needs, including transport requirements.
Once the NDIS has approved your plan, you can utilize this funding to access transport options that best meet your needs and objectives. Some examples of this include taxi and rideshare services, community transport vehicles, and specialised transport options that accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
Moreover, NDIS Assist Travel/Transport services can also provide public transport training to assist you in learning how to use public transportation independently. This helps in reducing the dependence on private transportation services, which can be expensive over time.
Community transport
The NDIS promotes a range of community transport options that allow participants to travel in comfort and independence. NDIS planners work with participants to identify their needs, find suitable transport solutions and access available funding. They also provide assistance with navigating the disability system to help participants make informed choices about their supports.
Depending on the individual, some transport services can be funded through Core Supports or Capacity Building Supports. For example, if learning to drive is a goal for you, it may be included in your Capacity Building budget under Improved Daily Living.
Before the NDIS can fund a transport service, they must be satisfied that it is reasonable and necessary to assist you to achieve your goals, objectives, and aspirations. Ultimately, this is why it’s important to discuss your specific transportation needs with an NDIS planner and include these in your plan. NDIS transport funds can be used to pay for taxis, rideshare services, or private transport providers that provide disability-friendly vehicles.
Assistive devices
NDIS participants can access a range of mobility and transfer equipment through their transportation support. Some of these items include scooters, wheelchairs, modified vehicles and specialised seats. NDIS will also fund vehicle modifications, taxi subsidy schemes and transport training.
Assistive technology (AT) is funded if it’s designed to improve functional ability and independence. It can be used to help a participant perform daily tasks, communicate and get around. Examples of AT that may be funded include a computer with voice recognition software, which allows a person to control the mouse buttons with their voices instead of using their hands (for people with limited dexterity or painful arthritis conditions), or a device that reads text aloud, which would help someone who cannot manipulate small print or read screen content without magnification.
Low risk, low cost AT can be purchased in the Consumables category of a participant’s core support budget. However, a device must be assessed as reasonable and necessary before being included in the plan.
Travel training
Travel training helps participants learn how to use public transport, such as buses, trains, and taxis. The service also teaches them strategies for safe road crossing, and can be provided in both one-on-one and group sessions.
Travel services are often incorporated into a participant’s core support plans. These supports provide funding to cover the cost of travel and transport assistance, allowing individuals to get to activities and services.
NDIS can also pay for specialised transport services that are equipped with features like wheelchair accessibility, and can assist participants who may need to be transported in a wheelchair. It can also pay for modifications to private vehicles that allow them to carry a wheelchair.
NDIS can also fund provider travel, which allows providers to claim expenses for time spent travelling with participants to their locations in order to deliver services. This is usually a component of capacity building supports, but can also be included in core support services.
