Insects in the sky. A “green wave.” Fig wasps building entire tree groves. Hummingbird hawkmoths keeping endangered violet flowers alive. Migratory creatures and the prosperity of a “salmon year.” Creatures do “not need to be big to be consequential,” do not need to be warm-blooded “to register in the very heartwood of a forest.”
---
On the natural exodus and ingress of insects, science was, for much of history, limited to guesswork. Invertebrates have proved hard to track for all the obvious reasons - tininess, diffusion, difficulty telling kindred species apart - and, too, because many insects shapeshift across their lifecycle. Especially elusive have been “noctivagant” or night-wandering insects, those that take advantage of a drop in thermal currents after sunset to wend their way by cover of darkness. Even in very large numbers, nocturnal insects can pass by unnoticed. One morning the bugs are just here: they’re everywhere. An old magic is frisking the shrubbery. No wonder the thinkers of antiquity held that many insects were inert matter sparked to life. [...]
The fact of insect migration - not to mention the basic biology of metamorphosis - has since been well substantiated, but though researchers have known for over a century that insects undertake seasonal, long-distance travel, the misguided belief that such movement is entirely passive and dictated by the winds persisted into the 1980s. Some insects clearly are at the mercy of the weather [...]. But [...] it has become clear that several winged insects - including bogongs - sense, and selectively choose, which air currents to ride, some forming massive, multispecies “bioflows” at high altitude. [...] What [entomologists have] seen up there is, frankly, astounding. The spectacle of animal migration may be typified by the grandeur of herds sweeping over the Serengeti, but most terrestrial migrants are insects -- by number of individuals and, perhaps more surprisingly, by mass. One study showed that each year in south-central Britain two to five trillion high-flying insects migrate over an area roughly the size of Georgia. Together, those insects have an estimated biomass greater than that of the nation’s migratory songbirds. Indeed, the volume of insects up in the air is so tremendous that researchers have suggested thinking of them as “the plankton of the sky”: a constant particulate, bobbing overhead.
At the same time our [knowledge of aerial insects] [...] has been upgraded, so too has our understanding of the impact of insect migration down on the ground. Large, traveling vertebrates, including elephants, caribou, and wildebeest, have long been known to link up ecosystems, transporting energy and nutrients [...]. Upstream salmon rushes in British Columbia have been shown to pump nitrogen into surrounding forests, where fish carcasses fertilize fir, spruce, and cedar (so much so that tree rings record rapid growth in a banner salmon year). An animal does not need to be big to be consequential; it does not need to be warm-blooded, or a grazer, to register in the very heartwood of a forest.
The passing of mammalian herds and fish runs can score a landscape visibly by magnetizing carnivores to an area, leaving torn-up vegetation behind, or creating a “green wave” where animal activities encourage plant growth. But though the movements of insects are often more covert, over generations their transit can shape an ecosystem in equally durable ways. Very small beings have system-wide effects.
Because many winged insects are pollinators, they create gene flows between plants they alight on along the route of their journey. In Spain, for instance, endangered violets surviving in geographically distant islands of habitat are genetically enchained together by the migration of hummingbird hawkmoths. Each hawkmoth threads flower to flower.
Trees along a 250-kilometer stretch of the Ugab River, in Namibia, have genetic linkages that flow with the easterly movement of fig wasps.
Billions of pollen grains are shifted southward each year by high-flying hoverflies in the UK, some lifted over the English Channel to the landing-pads of flowers in Europe -- a targeted haulage the wind alone could never achieve.

France 27 - 12 Uruguay
Another match where the underdog scored the first try, Uruguay put on a spirited display against the hosts in what was arguably the most entertaining match of the tournament so far. It wasn’t without controversy, as yet another dangerous tackle was let away with only a yellow card, but the enjoyability was certainly there.
While ultimately outmatched by France, Los Teros stayed in the fight for the full 80 minutes, and showed that they do have the potential to cause an upset, much like their display against Fiji last World Cup.
France are 2/2, and all but guaranteed to win the pool now, meanwhile Uruguay would love to surprise Italy and take third place for automatic qualification, behind the inevitable New Zealand, who will be up against Namibia tomorrow night.

Three Improvements To Google Earth’s And Maps’ Images
Take Earth back in time to plan projects more effectively
Perhaps you’d want to see what your area looked like a few decades ago by going back in time. Alternatively, you’d want to know how the changing climate and human activities have impacted trees. The Google new historical imagery in Google Earth on the web and mobile devices, which makes it simple to browse the Google collection of satellite and aerial images, some of which dates back as long as 80 years, will soon make all of this feasible.
You’ll notice that many locations have drastically different geographic evolutions while you go exploring. The 2018 view of Lake Oroville in northern California shows significant water shortages following years of drought. In comparison, the 2023 photo shows how a series of rains gradually filled the reservoir, allowing for water storage, electricity generating, and water activities like kayaking and swimming. You are able to see the lake’s development in remarkable detail thanks to historical images.
Longer time spans may also be used in historical images to depict significant changes. In cities such as Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, and London, you may even examine images dating back to the 1930s. Would you want to see even more changes in the world? Take a look at Time-lapse in Google Earth, an interactive feature that displays a breathtaking representation of planet’s changing over time via millions of satellite photos.
Google making it simpler for academics and groups to utilize Google Earth for initiatives, including building custom maps, in addition to assisting you in exploring Earth’s changes. it is going to provide the ability to see projects directly from Google Earth’s redesigned home page, which will facilitate teamwork even more.
Using novel AI models to enhance images
It is improving satellite imagery on Google Earth and Maps in addition to expanding its availability. You’ll notice a brighter, more colorful world starting this week because of its cloud-removal technology. With the help of Cloud Score+ AI model, which was trained on millions of photos, they were able to identify and eliminate clouds, cloud shadows, haze, and mist. Simultaneously, this model preserves the map’s depiction of actual weather conditions, such as ice, snow, and mountain shadows. As a consequence, you can see Earth with more clarity and accuracy thanks to a revised global mosaic.
Extending Street View coverage to about 80 nations
Although Street View shows more than 280 billion photos gathered from Google Street View vehicles and hikers, Google Earth offers a far larger collection of satellite and aerial photography. You can virtually visit every continent and even locations like the Great Barrier Reef and the International Space Station from the comfort of your living room using Street View. With new footage in almost 80 countries, some of which will get Street View imagery for the first time, it is now introducing one of the largest upgrades to Street View to date.
You will get the opportunity to see the stunning landscapes of Bosnia and its ancient towns, the sand dunes around Namibia’s capital, the castles and mountains of Liechtenstein, and the breathtaking rivers of Paraguay. To get a close-up look at stores and structures, you may even digitally stroll around the streets of other towns.
Across the globe, including Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Uruguay, and many more, keep a look out for newly updated Street View photos. Furthermore, it will be simpler for us to expand Street View’s reach in the future with Google newest camera, which weighs just 15 pounds and can be mounted on any kind of vehicle. This updated imagery keeps the map relevant for everyone, even as our globe evolves.

The Speediest Centuries in T20 International Cricket
What is the record for the fastest century in T20 International cricket?
The record for the fastest 100 in T20 International cricket is currently held by Sahil Chauhan of Estonia. He achieved this milestone on June 17, 2024, scoring a hundred in just 27 balls against Cyprus. This stunning performance not only set a new record but also showcased Chauhan’s extraordinary power and precision, making him a standout player in T20I history.
Who scored the second fastest century in T20 International cricket in 2024?
In 2024, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton from Namibia scored the second fastest 100 in T20I cricket. Loftie-Eaton reached his hundred off 33 balls on February 27, 2024, during a match against Nepal. His aggressive approach and quick scoring were instrumental in Namibia’s strong performance during the game.
Who is the youngest player to score a T20I century in 2024?
As of 2024, Aritra Dutta from Singapore is recognized as one of the youngest players to achieve a T20I century. On February 11, 2024, Dutta scored a century off 44 balls against Japan. His ability to score quickly and set up a formidable total highlighted his potential and talent at a young age.
Has anyone from a non-Test playing nation scored a fast century in T20I?
Yes, there have been impressive performances from players representing non-Test playing nations. For example, Sahil Chauhan from Estonia and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton from Namibia have both set records for fast centuries in T20Is. Their achievements emphasize the growing competitiveness and talent in the cricketing world beyond traditional Test-playing countries.
Which editions of the Men’s T20 World Cup did not have an individual century?
Not every edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup has featured a century. For instance, the 2007 and 2010 T20 World Cups did not see any individual century. These editions highlighted different playing conditions and strategies, showing that century-making in T20 World Cups can vary depending on numerous factors.
Conclusion
The realm of T20 International cricket has witnessed some of the most exhilarating batting performances, with record-breaking centuries that have captivated fans worldwide. Players like Sahil Chauhan and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton have set new benchmarks with their rapid centuries, inspiring future cricketers to aim higher. As T20 cricket continues to evolve, the excitement and anticipation for even more spectacular innings remain high.

Riverwoods, Inbal Rotem-Sagiv and Omri Lahav presents: Vagabond
It's a Nordman cover
"Vagabond" is an English version of the Swedish song "Vandraren" by million-selling Swedish songwriters Py Bäckman and Mats Wester, who makes up the duo Nordman with singer Håkan Hemlin.
Mats has worked with the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Eric Bazilian ("The Hooters") and Ritchie Blackmore ("Deep Purple"). The original Swedish version “Vandraren” was featured on Nordman’s self-titled debut album which sold over half a million copies in Sweden, which is equivalent to over 15 million copies in the United States, i.e. on par with Eagles’ “Hotel California”. It tells the story about a man who must find a way to continue his journey despite the hardships he has faced, as sung with the chorus lines "Pain runs deep, you must walk on, letting go of what is gone, pain runs deep, you must walk on, you belong to the road you're a vagabond". The song is produced by Omri Lahav with vocals by Inbal Rotem-Sagiv. Omri Lahav's writing credits include the soundtracks for the documentary “Quiet Explosions” and the short film “Over My Dead Body”, which were long-listed for Best Original Score for this year’s Oscars and nominated for an Emmy, respectively, as well as featured in the Cannes Festival in May 2022.
youtube
Riverwoods consists of Swedish songwriter Jimmy Granstrom and invited collaborator(s), which will vary for different songs. Italy 52 - 8 Namibia
A spirited start from the Welwitschias saw them challenging Italy, even threatening at times. While a yellow card started their downfall and saw them conceding two tries in just a few minutes, the Namibians were dogged and driven, refusing to give up until fitness issues wore them down in the last quarter.
Italy on the other hand were slow to start, but recorded a massive 7 tries, giving them their biggest score against Namibia and one of their best in recent years. Currently sitting at the top of Pool A’s leaderboard with a bonus point win, the Azzurri probably won’t stay there, but they’ll revel in the novelty of being on the top of a table instead of the bottom.
Namibia’s quest for a World Cup win continues, but it won’t stop them trying.

England's Pursuit of Another Semi-Final Triumph Against India
In recent years, England has shone brightest in semi-final matches, demonstrating their prowess in high-stakes games. Two dates stand out in their white-ball cricket resurgence: July 11, 2019, and November 10, 2022. These days saw England deliver two of their most impressive limited-overs performances, both leading to World Cup finals victories. In 2019, England crushed Australia by eight wickets to secure a spot in the 50-over World Cup final. In 2022, they defeated India by 10 wickets in Adelaide, reaching the T20 World Cup final amid a fervent crowd. This Thursday, England, the defending champions, return to Guyana for the first time in 14 years to face India in another crucial semi-final. Storm machine, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, via Wikimedia Commons Previously, England entered these matches as underdogs but managed to turn the tide spectacularly. Despite a rough start, they gained momentum with wins over Oman, Namibia, and the United States. The only Test-playing nation they beat was the West Indies, but they did so convincingly. This semi-final will be a true test of England's capabilities. India, on the other hand, has cruised through the tournament, particularly in New York, where they were the main attraction. They haven't faced significant challenges since their close win over Pakistan and continued their strong performance in the Caribbean. Captain Rohit Sharma's recent explosive innings against Australia, scoring 92 from 41 balls, signals a formidable challenge for England. Virat Kohli, although not in top form, is another potential threat. India had the advantage of knowing their semi-final venue early due to the tournament's scheduling for Indian television, while England faced last-minute travel arrangements. India's strategy includes a spin-heavy squad, anticipating the slow pitch in Guyana. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, yet to play in the tournament, are expected to feature prominently. England might also consider debuting their spinner, Tom Hartley, to counter India's approach. Weather conditions and the lack of a reserve day add another layer of uncertainty. If rain disrupts play, India will advance due to their higher group stage ranking. England's recent history in knockout matches is positive, whereas India has struggled, losing four of their last five semi-finals in white-ball World Cups. A win for England would vindicate coach Matthew Mott and captain Jos Buttler, easing the disappointment of last year's 50-over World Cup. The victor of this match will likely be the favorite in the final, facing a South African team with its own semi-final demons. For England, a win on June 27 could become a landmark date, while a loss would quickly fade into obscurity amid the upcoming football frenzy. Read the full article

Australia cruise past England with comfortable win
by Rex Clementine
Australia are certain of going through to the second round of the T-20 World Cup following their comfortable 36 run win over England in Barbados on Saturday.
It was a clinical performance by the Aussies. No batter scored a half-century, but all top five chipped in and as a result Australia were able to breach the 200 mark.
There were a few questions asked with England’s bowling with Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood all going over ten runs an over.
Bowling had let down England as chasing 202 proved to be a gigantic task.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt laid the foundation with 73 runs being added in 7.1 overs. England were on par with the asking rate and looked good to chase down the target.
However, introduction of spin put breaks into their innings. Zampa dismissed both Buttler and Salt in successive overs and the game started drifting away with the new batters struggling to find their feet as soon as they walked in.
Moeen Ali hit three sixes and England had their hopes again, but the asking rate was too much and he had to keep taking chances.
England’s first game against Scotland was washed out by rain and points were shared. Now they have surrendered to Australia. But all hope is not for England. Their next two games are against Oman and Namibia and they should go through.
All England games are in the Caribbean island and they don’t have to bother about countering tricky pitches in the US.
