decided to just post the finished sketch now just in case this takes too long and also added ventis backstory in this AU (since i might hopefully make this a series of sorts?) anyway, i sure hope the backstory isnt too dark aha!! (i can post the backstory on its own if its too hard to read)

Something about genshin that is starting to frustrate me is it’s becoming more clear to me that their thesis is humanity and their ability to dream and aspire beyond their limitations is beyond godhood but the game itself seems to struggle very badly at actually showing it. Primarily its treatment of its archons who, prior to Fontaine, were the standing figures of godhood but whenever an archon reaches a level of humanity they are quickly discarded by the narrative. It’s one thing to say “being human is a worthy aspiration” and narratively showing that but in the larger scheme of things being a human seems to actually detach you from the larger world to the point where you don’t have a say in what happens in it. Like why say that if the only important figures are characters with powers. It’s insulting like atleast be forthright with how you actually feel.

I know Venti has made Hoyo a shit ton of money even if not recently so why don't they write him the way they used to. Every event I get to watch the personality and beauty that I loved about him fading. And he STILL doesn't have a second story quest 😑 I'm so tired I want my Venti centric events back dammit.

this is what Genshin’s fandom did to Kaedehara Kazuha. This is like the most significant case to me mentally because it’s ongoing and continuous and terrible

I used to love Kazuha fiercely. I loved his voice, his quiet and assured manner, the efficient way he moves. I loved his kit; it felt like joy, it felt like the entire world whipping before you. Kazuha is the first limited time 5star I ever got and the first character I ever saved an entire pity for. He is one of two characters I have ever intentionally prefarmed (the second is my darling Lady Furina) for in my three years of play. I remember playing his story quest as soon as it dropped. I can’t even remember what that was like anymore. All I know is that it happened, because I have a Kazuha and he is quite decently built. Sometimes I go back through my messages on Discord that were so hype for him pre debut and tried to remember.

All I wanted to learn when I stepped into the theorycrafting/metaslave side of Genshin was how to beat the Abyss 12 DPS checks. What was I met with? A wall of “these characters are worthless and a joke, please trash them instantly”. As Version 2 progressed and people realized exactly how incredible Kazuha was, Venti became one of the most trashed units around (not characters, though it has impacted how some people view his character. Gameplay unit). It was almost impossible (for YEARS; only now has this faded) for people to mention one without mentioning the other.

It sure was a Situation that sucks. I wish I’d disengaged from metaslave content (including yes most YT/Twitch content creators) so much sooner. I wish I could’ve saved Kazuha for me. But by the time I realized what was happening I stopped playing Kazuha, I stopped liking him either. All I have are the message-echoes, and sometimes when Kazuha appears in an event in a really beautiful way (he was my favorite part of 2.8 GAA, I nearly cried when the electro seelie disappeared and I played the entire sequence as Kazuha, solo) he warms my heart again and I remember when I didn’t just feel cold annoyance

Please don’t let fandom ruin something you love. Walk away and unfollow the fans and enjoy the thing by yourself, or find a limited circle of people who ignore the discourse, or get your irl friends into the thing and collectively ignore the Internet community, or blacklist from here to the moon if you need to and only ever scroll through your rarepair ship’s tag on AO3. But don’t let fandom distort a show or a movie or a book or a comic you used to love so badly that you can’t enjoy the original anymore. Please. It isn’t worth it.
