Ok so.... This is a weird ask lol. But if you don't mind can you share a mini update of both sides of the law? Like?? Do you think Beth still is in law? Is Rio still in crime?? Are they still together 😭? Like where do you see all the ch in the future? Also I love this fic so much seriously one of my favs ever thk you so much for writing it 💗💖💗💖💗💖💗💖
Anon, thank you, this made my day - I'm so psyched you liked it and thank youuuu for letting me know!
And no, I never mind asks (the serotonin of seeing that little envelope with a dot on it lol) so let's gooooooooo:
I have thought about this in the context of a "sequel" of sorts and been trying (and largely failing lol) to see if I could continue the story and fill in blanks without using the two main POVs. Everyone BUT the "both sides" in other words. The "future" in that "sequel" though only goes out a couple years plus will likely never get completed plus it's easier to write in bullet points just answering your questions and ya girl prioritizes laziness and the easiest way out at all times so:
Yes, Beth would still be in the law, although the form of her career would change over the years. I see her craving the Law Firm life for awhile - having her own cases, telling people she is "Elizabeth Boland, ESQUIRE" (lol, nerd), feeling like she has a seat at the table with other experienced litigators she respects like Gretchen/Katz, learning the system and being part of all the "culture" (bar stuff, meeting judges, etc.), and most importantly making money. She's been a stay-at-home mom for a decade+, and while that is hard work, now she's surrounded by adults (albeit adults of the worst kind, aka lawyers) and she wants to prove that she's the smartest and most competent to all them too (less "prove" and more "make them acknowledge").
The Law Firm life would lose its appeal after a few years though. Katz would retire to Florida and she'd have the whole firm to herself but once she'd hired a bunch of new associates, got the whole thing running as Managing Partner, got a few "Best Detroit Mid-Size Firm" awards, etc., she'd be looking for other challenges. She's like Rio in that she wants to be in charge (thinks she is in charge at all times lol) but her need for power and control manifests a little differently imo - Beth wants it in a societally approved external way - wants everyone looking to say "Well, objectively, you just can't get better than that. We, as a Society, approve."
That's a judge or a politician. "Your Honor...." "Senator...." "Councilwoman..." - Rio would die laughing at wanting to be called any of those out loud, even as he'd brutally shut down any lack of respect towards him from anyone on either side of the law. Power to Rio doesn't need to be chronicled in the Wayne County Bar Association Newsletter before that makes it real, it just is. But this would be the Beth Dream imo. EVERYONE having to say ("Say it! SAY! IT!") her title, out loud and to her face.
So she'd maneuver herself into kissing ass and doing grunt bar/alumni work for the name recognition the first few years in practice until she was recommended for substitute judge positions, then springboard a few years after that into running for judge/political office.
In contrast, he'd stay with crime, yes of course. The problem with going 100% clean is that in the Legit World there is always going to be someone else Society makes your boss, and that rubs against his soul. Even the best lawyer with the highest hourly rate or most high-profile clients can get screwed by a shitty judge (see, e.g., the current United States Supreme Court). So staying clean/legit means working within the System mostly and that is just too limiting. Plus he likes the action, the rush, just likes it.
So he'd keep his criminal empire, but continue to morph and evolve to stay on top and one step ahead. He'd keep the legit stuff too as a cover and to interlace/enhance and because he likes the irony and fuck-you-ism of having his legit biz stuff be an entry into a prissy white country club that he only wants to be a part of to say a silent you-can't-keep-me-out and to get into fights with Gretchen on the tennis court.
YES THEY WOULD BE TOGETHER. And they'd stay together, whatever/wherever the road. The years apart would be like a bit of an unhealed wound they would never talk about but would always be lurking. A reminder of the alternative, a cautionary tale of what it could be like to choose pride/wanting to be right/being afraid of what others think over compromise. Nothing is as bad as that.
Which is not to say they wouldn't butt heads and battle on the regular though, both because it's a type of foreplay they both crave and because both of them deep to their core think they are right at all times and also the one in charge over the other. She'd try to get him to bankroll certain "community" type bullshit that he'd find deeply lame or try to strongarm him into going along with her wacky biz ideas. He'd try to steer her into how she should be running her firm (shots....FIRED, she would literally black out from rage) or taking on certain type of cases best for her "image."
(I was trying to play with this as the new conflict in their relationship - b/c hell no with cheating etc. - in the "sequel." Basically reimagining/reworking the Season 2 Crackhouse Goons Encounter. That Beth gets a felony drug court-appointed client who fails to appear for his court date. She's all gungho because she wants to kiss the butt of the judge who appointed her and show she is the Super Best Number One Court-Appointed Counsel Ever in Detroit. So she tracks the random junkie down to the Crackhouse, then actually goes in looking for him, Annie in tow, then has to bluff her way out like in canon. Rio is NOT pleased to find this out and tries to "order" her (lol, mistake) not to take on cases like that. This causes Big Fight that Gretchen is a reluctant bystander to and wants to kill herself watching how stupid and stubborn they are.)
Of the rest of the characters - do you mean like Gretchen/Gardner/Courtney? Or Dean/Ruby/Annie? Or just Rio/Beth and this is already too long (it is, I know). I'll just do a couple of law ones:
Gretchen - Stays at her Firm til the day she dies. Would never give up litigating or crim defense for judgeship or anything else. Sees it as her way to protect her family (literal family in Rio/Beth and figurative family as in their business and all its people), and is forever annoyed that Rio sees her sensible "I need to work within the Law as much as possible if I'm going to do us the most Good [and by that I mean, Bad]" as too cautious. Becomes a mentor of sort to Beth in her first few years of practice and then later deep friends/sister-in-law but neither of them ever fully see it, Beth because she views herself as having Ruby/Annie as Friends/Sisters Only in Life, Gretchen because she's always thought of herself as a woman who only gets along with men and not other women.
Gardner - tries to fit into the same big law shoes his father wore for 5 years or so. Ends up getting dumped by law school boyfriend/love of his life who's frustrated Gardner won't stop trying to squish himself into the Warrington Success mold his father wants him to fill (and not be gay, obvi). Comes to his senses 10 years or so after graduation and leaves private practice, becomes a law professor instead so he can read and think in quiet and work with shiny new students. Reconnects with Beth/Rio when he invites Beth to his wedding (new guy he loves a lot, even if he still thinks about Joel on occasion) on a whim and she replies with a Plus One and a note that Rio says to tell you "he's looking forward to it, G."
I'm so sorry for this stream of consciousness, Anon, I've had 5 cups of coffee this morning. Hopefully this is what you were asking and THANK YOU again!

PAIN - Chapter 5 {Shouta Aizawa X Reader}
Tumblr media
Story Summary: You’ve been away for so long, for over thirteen years. As soon as you graduated, without saying by to the man you like and your best friend, you left. Not even leaving  a note, Aizawa and Yamada had to hear from your female best friend, Nemuri that you were going to join the I.H.A.C, the International Hero Agency Commission. You became the best hero there, saving so many people with tactical precision, but you’re always overworked yourself, to the point where you’ve dropped and fainted while walking to your office. Concerned for you, your boss called your old principal, who’s been looking for a new teacher to teach about stealth and rescue operations. Deciding to send you, even though you’ve adamantly refused, you’re finally coming home… a place you abandoned a long time ago.
Chapter Summary: It’s the first day of school, what does it bring? What new faces do you see? What old ones do you see again?
A/N: I am soooooooo sorry!! For those who have been waiting a long time for this, this was just stuck in my docs for over two months and I was STUCK! I tried, tried, and I tried so hard but nothing came to me until like three days ago... as a result, I wrote a little over 5k words 😭😭😭. So enjoy this chapter and I’ll get Chapter 6 (which is PART 2 of your first day as a teacher) ASAP... You won’t be waiting almost two months for it... (I hope)
Word Count: 5k
Chapter 5: The First Day [PART ONE]
You gasped, sitting up as quick as you could. You were floating, nothing but small shiny dots and the black sky around you. You felt something tickling your shoulders and grabbed at it. You pulled and found your head following. You reached up to your scalp and found that your hair was taken out of its cornrows and was blown out, the ends reaching your shoulder blades.
You gasped and looked around, still seeing the night sky. You looked down at your outfit to find yourself in a fancy, flowing dress. It was pale pink and off-shoulder, small petals decorating the necklines and other hems.
“Where… where the hell am I?” You called out, only for your echo to answer you.
“My precious Storm…”
You gasped, your breath shaking as that familiar voice hit your ears. You slowly turned around, tears already threatening to fall from your e/c eyes.
“D-dad…”
He looked the same as you remembered, never having the chance to age. Your body turned around fully, looking at the man who raised you for most of your life. He was wearing the same clothes he was found in on that day.
A white dress shirt and black slacks. What he usually wore at work. Only, his shirt had tears and holes in your, luckily they were clean, no blood like that day you found him and your mom.
Tears fell from your eyes, as you picked up the skirt of your dress and raced over to your dad as fast as you can. He was smiling, his eyes glassy. You picked the pace, but for some reason, it looked like he was getting farther and farther. You picked up the pace, but that didn’t do anything. You looked at your dad’s face and looked at his smile once more. His smile was sad, but knowing, like he knew this would happen.
“DAD!!”
Behind you, a large wormhole, a black one opened up. Air pressure started to suck inwards, towards the hole. You screamed as the hole began to pull you into its clutches. Your muscles burned, every cell feeling like it was in a fire as you continued in your fight against the hole, headed towards your father. Your tears were being sucked into the hole as you reached out for your father, who was also crying.
But all he did was shake his head. You gasped at that, and that was enough for you to lose your balance and the wormhole pulled you into its dark clutches.
“DAD!!”
You woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily like you ran a race. You sat up quickly, clenching your comforter tightly in your hands, holding it close to your chest. You blinked a couple of times, feeling liquid spilling out of your eyes. Using one hand, you reached up to your face to feel tears falling down your face, you were crying. You took the deepest breath yet and held it for a couple of seconds, feeling your accelerating heart. You fell back into your pillows before recoiling at the feeling of sweat, which made a huge wet spot where you were sleeping. You groaned before throwing your blanket away from you, swinging your legs off the bed. Your bare feet touched the cold ground before you pushed yourself up.
“I’m having nightmares again, fucking hell,” you groaned to yourself, slipping on some slippers to keep your feet warm from the wooden floors.
You turned to look at the time, 4:58 am, and groaned. You still haven’t got out of the habit of waking up early. You walked over to your small table that you out your coffee machine, your Electric kettle, and a container of different hot drinks. You dug around until you found what you wanted, a packet of green tea. You then grabbed your kettle, walking over to your sink, and filling it with tap water. You then walked back and put the kettle on and turned it on.
As you waited for the water to boil, you looked out your window, thinking about the vents that happened today. The confrontation with Aizawa. With Shouta.
“Did we actually mean something to you? Did I mean anything to you?”
You shook your head, leaning against your counter as your kettle began to whistle, indicating the water is done boiling. You sighed, rolling your shoulders back and slightly cracking your neck before turning around. You grabbed a mug and pulled a container of sugar from a cabinet before placing them on the countertop. You place the teabag in the cup and poured two tablespoons of sugar before pouring the hot water inside the cup.
“Angry? God, I’m not just fucking angry. I’m… I’m disappointed… after everything we’ve been through, I just-”
You almost dropped your mug as his words replayed in your head once again. You gasped before held the cup close to you before reaching over to the drawers to grab a spoon. You began to stir the sugar absentmindedly, your mind drifting to when you returned after your conversation with Aizawa, how Riza and Toji had to carry you to your bed. They wanted to stay and make sure you’re okay but had to leave. Toji had to go to work, so you had to pressure them you would be okay.
“I’ll be fine, you guys need to get going anyways,” your voice was muffled from shoving your face in your new pillows.
You could feel their concern and doubt without even looking at them.
“Are you sure Y/n? I’ll be more than happy to call out so we can stay?” You could hear Toji ask you.
You shook your head profusely, “I’d hate to be the reason you missed work. Go. I’ll be fine.”
“It’s so not like I cried to myself to sleep,” you chuckled to yourself, before taking the last sip of your tea before placing the porcelain mug in the sink.
You turned towards your dresser, peeling your large t-shirt off your body and throwing it in a random corner. You were feeling stuffy, the remnants of your nightmare still around you. You ripped open your drawers before pulling out some random running shorts, a sports bra, and a black tank top. You pulled the clothes over your body, making sure they fit comfortably on your body. You grabbed a water bottle from your fried before grabbing your phone and some headphones, before heading out the door.
You went down the stairs, before exiting out the teacher dorm into the cool April night-early morning. The sun still wasn’t up and everything was still, and you could only hear the creaking of some crickets and even some birds chirping about. You took a deep breath of the cool, crisp air before plug in your headphones into your phone. You began to stretch your legs out, along with your arms as you searched around your music app. You searched around a bit, before settling on an album, an old one, one you used to listen to back in your days at U.A. You smiled softly as the notes pelted in your ears. You took a starting position and taking off into the early morning.
You ran and you ran, focusing on the pacing of your heart and the flow of oxygen you took in. On the sounds, the gravel marks as you ran down the path. You passed by buildings, both old and new. The school got A LOT bigger than from what you remember. You passed by Ground Beta, where you got a flashback of when you had your first class here. You were teetering with excitement, the idea of this being the first step of you becoming a hero so close to you. You shook your head as you ran past the site. You were so ambitious back then.
Soon enough, the sun was beginning to peak through the horizon, streaks of yellow, orange, and pink appearing in the east. Before you knew it, it’s been an hour, basically running a circle around the entire U.A campus.  Your heart was beating through your chest but you weren’t tired, from what you’ve been through at the I.H.A.C, this was nothing. Although a small break wouldn’t be so bad. Your legs slowed down as you approached a grove of trees, deciding to stop there and drink some of your water. As you rested against a tree, you felt a few chills down your spine, this place was… familiar to you. You glanced around at the field before you turned your music down. That’s when it hit you. You remembered why this place was so familiar to you.
This place… isn’t this where we…
“We used to hang out here, after school.”
That wasn’t you who spoke.
You screeched and jumped up slightly, before turning around quickly, your heart racing at the thought of someone sneaking up on you so suddenly. They weren’t standing too far from you, dressed in a pair of athletic leggings, along with a white t-shirt that was soaked in sweat. It seems they had been running as well. Her bluish-blackish hair was pulled up into a high messy bun and dangling off her neck on a chain, was a pair of red, circular glasses.
“Kayama?” You gasped, dropping your water bottle.
She just smiled sadly at you, before dropping whatever was in her hands and racing towards you. You yelped as she tackled you to the ground, landing on your back.
“YOU ARE THE MOST FRUSTRATING PERSON I HAVE EVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY OF KNOWING!!” She yelled, pinning you down to your shoulders.
You looked up at her and smiled at her, feeling your waterline fill with tears as you both rolled around like you were kids again. God, it’s been so long since you’ve seen her. You felt your heart swell as you hugged your best friend again, for the first time in so long. You nuzzled your head into her neck, holding her close. All you could think is, She doesn’t hate me? The two of you stayed like that for a long time, not caring that you were both drenched in sweat. You both just laid on the ground, hugging and holding each other. You could feel a wet spot on your bare shoulder, and a couple of sniffles coming from Kayama. Your body shook slightly as the two of you slowly rose up, still holding each other.
“I can’t believe, after all these years,” Kayama sniffled, wiping her tears away, “you’re here! You’re home!”
You smiled and nodded your head, “yeah, I’m… I’m here.”
She let go of you and took a couple of steps back, gesturing to you and your physique, “Look at you! You look the same! Like you haven’t aged a bit since I saw you last!”
You smiled back at her, imitating her own gestures, “look at me?” You repeated.
“Look at you! You look,” you took a deep breath, a soft smile appearing as you took a longer look at your best friend, “Amazing.”
She smiled back at you, squeezing your shoulder. You wiped away the few tears that were coming from your cheeks, before wrapping your arms around her one more time.
---
After the tearful and joyful reunion, the two of you jogged back to the dorms together. Kayama told you she would freshen herself up before coming over to your room. You nodded heading up the elevator to your room.  You unlocked the door before walking inside. You threw away your water bottle in the recycle bin that came with your room, stretching out your body so you wouldn’t be sore tomorrow. You peeled off your sweaty workout clothes before throwing them in a hamper before heading to your shower.
You washed your body at the highest temperature it would allow you to raise it to, causing your bathroom to steam up. You stayed in the shower for a good ten minutes before getting out. You wrapped your body in a clean towel before stepping out on the mat you laid out in front of your shower. You sighed before taking a deep breath in the temporary sauna you created before heading to your sink. Using a random rag, you wiped away the condensation that appeared all over the mirror so you could see yourself.
You put the cloth down before grabbing your toothbrush and toothpaste, wetting them under the sink before brushing your teeth. You scrubbed away, making sure they were clean before rinsing your mouth, and your toothbrush before putting them away. You switched your towel for a satin robe, not before making sure your entire body was dry. Once you walked out of your bathroom, making sure to leave the door open to let the hot air out, you walked to your vanity table that Toji got as a “welcome-back gift”. You pulled out your lotion and rubbed it all across your body, making sure to rub it in.
Once that was done, you got dressed.  You decided to wear a satin corset top along with black, stretchy pants that were breathable. You found a black hoodie and tied it around your waist. You grabbed your glasses and placed the chain connecting the two sides around your neck. You walked back to your vanity and sat down, pulling off the night scarf you were wearing to protect your hair. You pulled your hair out of its bun and grabbed to brush to smooth out its small kinks. You then pulled your hair back into a high ponytail and left a few pierced in the front of your face to frame it.
That’s when you heard a knock at your door. You reacted immediately, getting up and pushing your chair, and walking to your door. You opened it to find Kayama standing there, leaning against the doorframe, smirking at you. Her hero outfit was a white bodysuit with leggings and BDSM-like accessories. She changed her glasses, they were red and pointed at the ends. The change from her hero costume from high school to now was insane but it was honestly so her, you could laugh.
She glanced at you, looking up and down, “this is a change from your old hero outfit.”
You shrugged, moving out the way to let her in.
“I haven’t been the conventional hero in a long time.”
She walked across your room before taking a seat on your vanity, twisting the chair to look at herself in the mirror. She messed around with her hair and her deep red lipstick before beginning to speak.
“So,” she glanced at you through the mirror, “how have you been? Truly?”
You raised an eyebrow at her, “you think I’m gonna lie to you?”
She shrugged her shoulders, before looking back at herself in the mirror.
“Did it before, wouldn’t put it past you.”
You sighed deeply, walking towards your kitchen area, “and there it is.”
You could what the vanity chair get scooted back before hearing Kayama’s footsteps head towards you.
“And what do you mean by “and there it is”? Is not the truth?” She questioned you, using her arm to lean against your countertop.
“You lied to me, you lied to Yamada, and you lied to Aizawa.”
You slammed the cup you were holding in your hand against the counter. Luckily, it wasn’t hard enough to actually break it. The sound was loud enough that it caused Kayama to quiet down and just look at you. You took a deep breath before slowly letting go of the cup before turning around to your fridge and getting gout your favorite juice. Kayama could see your wrists shaking slightly, and could hear you taking slow deep breaths to calm yourself.
“Fine, I guess we’ll talk about it another time.”
The two of you ate breakfast together. While eating, the two of you talked about everything you missed while you were away. You asked about her well-being, and how long she was here. You also asked about Yamada, after seeing both Kayama and Aizawa here you could only guess that he was here as well.
“We’re all here, I’ve been teaching for about 5 years, as Yamada for 4… and Aizawa…” she trailed off as she mentioned him.
“He started teaching here about three years ago. I’m gonna tell you right now, he may say no, but he really likes his homeroom class,” she giggled, poking you in the cheek.
You giggled at her sharp stiletto nails digging slightly into your skin. You pushed her hand away and dug into your bag for your phone as you felt it vibrate. You pulled it out and saw that it was your cousin, Riza, calling you.
“It’s Riza, you call out to Kayama, “give me a minute.”
She nodded and continued eating as you got up from the table and went to a random corner. You then answered the call.
“Hello? Riza?”
“Y/n? Are you there?”
“Yeah, I’m here.” You smiled as you heard your cousin’s voice again.
“I just wanted to say have a good first day as a teacher at U.A! I hope I wasn’t interrupting anything…”
You shook your head, “no, you’re not! Thank you for calling!”
“You’re welcome! I have to go now, my practice is about to start!”
You giggled and sent her on her way, before ending the call and putting your phone back in your bag.
“I see you’ve already settled things with your cousins?” Kayama asked, picking up her and your own pate and taking them to sink.
You nodded, taking up the cups to the sink so they could be rinsed and washed. Once the two of your cleaned up the mess you made from breakfast, you went to grab your things so you could head to the school to get ready for the first day. You grabbed a small black bag that was big enough to contain your iPad and other small things. Once packed, both you and Kayama walked out of your room. You headed down the elevator before walking out of the teacher dorm, passing by some of the teachers who were still lounging around the common area.
The both of you walked to the main building together, passing by some students who waved at the both of you.
“Hello, Midnight-sensei!”
“I can’t wait for your class this year!”
You smiled at the students greeting her and looked at your best friend smiling back at the students and waving at them. You gave a playful shive as she turned back to you.
“You’re quite popular around here, Kayama.”
She smiled softly, “I try to teach the best way I can, and I’m sure that you’ll be a great teacher to the students as well,” she reassured you, placing a hand on your shoulder.
You smiled at her sweet gesture but looked ahead, your mind distant. Remembering how she tried to talk to you about her past before breakfast, and how quickly you shut her down. She didn’t bring it up again. God, how could she forgive you so easily? If anything, she should be the hardest to get to forgive you because she actually tried. She actually tried to contact you. You got her letters and they told you about every single phone call you got and that they were mostly all from the same person. Out of everyone you knew in your life, Kayama was one who kept trying.
“Kayama,” you sighed, glancing over at her.
She looked over at you and saw the look in your eyes. She changed the footing in her step and stood shoulder to shoulder to you. SHe reached over and pulled you into a one-sided hug. You took a deep breath and leaned into her hug.
“I know about you and Aizawa’s conversation, and how draining it was for him, so I could only imagine how it was for you. You don’t have to say anything, Y/n, I trust you. You’re here now and that’s all I need.”
You both smiled at each other as you continued to the main building, talking about the different things to expect from teaching hero students. Feeling the wind blow around you, shivered and put on your hoodie. As you were catching up, She also asked what your class was going to be about.
“Oh, I’m the stealth and rescue operations teacher here, and I also teach battle formations as well.”
Kayama gasped and grabbed you by your wrists and pulled you closer, her eyes sparkling.
“You are a beast at that topic, I’m sure you’re gonna do great. Don’t worry, these kids are sweethearts, they don’t bite.”
You rolled your eyes at that, “you think I’m scared of some snot-faced brats? Yeah, think again.”
She snorted at that as you two approached the back of the school. The doors slid open and you walked inside, following behind Kayama.  As you walked in, you took in the sight of your alma mater, how so much could have changed in thirteen years. You headed up the stairs, following behind to where Kayama was raking you, holding your bag closer to your body.
“Let’s go to the teacher’s lounge, where I can show you your desk and where you’ll be working on grading papers,” she grabbed your hand and led you to the stairs.
She dragged you up the stairs to the third floor and took you to a door that says teacher’s lounge. The door slid open and the two do you walked in. There was a row of computers with dividers in between each seat. Over in the corner, there was a break room-like area with couches and other things.
“You’re beside me, come over here.” She pulled you to a desk, one with her name on it.
You stopped in front of the desk beside her own and saw your own name in the nameplate. You smiled at the sight of your own name and bent over to pick it up, rubbing your thumb over your first name.
Y/n L/n-Tadashi
“It’s good to see you in good sights, Ms. L/n.”
You gasped before you turned around and saw no one behind you so you bent down and saw Principal Nezu standing there. You let out a breath of relief before you smiled at him and nodded your head.
“Your first class isn’t until after lunch, as you should know, so you can take all this morning to get acquitted as best as you can,” he said, taking a sip of his tea.
You nodded your head in understanding, which caused him to close his eyes in satisfaction before walking away to talk to a very skinny man with sunken eyes and wild blond hair. You heard Kayama take her seat beside your own, which caused you to turn around and face your own desk, It was bare, nothing filling the space. Not that you would have anything to fill the space with anyways. You preferred to leave that in your own personal space back in your room.
“So what do you plan on teaching? What’s the first lesson?” Kayama asked as you were reaching in your bag to pull out your iPad.
“Umm,” you started, flipping it open, before tapping in your notes and pulling up your lesson plans.
“My first lesson is about-” You were about to delve into what you had planned for today when the doors to the teacher’s lounge slammed open. The noise caused you to jump but that didn’t prepare you for what was to follow
“GOOD MORNING U.A TEACHERS!!”
You covered your ears at the sudden yelling, due to no longer used to Yamada’s incessant yelling. Your heart dropped to your stomach as you laid eyes on the two men that walked into the lounge. Yamada grew his hair out as well, his sticking out all the way out. Despite what you’ve seen from Aizawa and Kayama, his hero costume didn’t change much. He still had the speakers on his legs and the leather jacket like he was in America in the 50s. He had colored sunglasses over his eyes. You chuckled under your breath, it was all so very Yamada.
Following in behind him, grumbling about how loud Yamada was. He was no longer in a tank top like you saw yesterday. He changed into a long sleeve black shirt, but still had the black cargo pants and the scarf contraption he had. His har was down and it reached a little bit past his shoulders.
“It’s too early in the Morning for this Mic, I’d thought you know this?” You could hear Aizawa scold him as they walked to their own seats, which were only a couple of seats from your own.
They were looking everywhere but at you. They were actively ignoring you, taking a seat at their desks. They greeted the same skinny man that Nezu went to talk to after he finished his conversation with you before looking at their own computers. You sighed, before turning around and facing your own work. You could feel Kayama’s eyes on you but you ignored it and continued going over what you plan to teach your class of second and third years.
They made their choice, and so you had to respect it.
--
It was after school, and the four of you were waiting for Kayama to get out from her after-school club so you all could go on the train together. Kayama was sleeping over at your house once again and the boys just wanted to tag along. You were practicing your flips, Aizawa was taking a “nap” even though he was answering all of our questions, and Shirakumo and Yamada were talking loudly about a musician they both liked.
“L/n, you can’t do a quadruple backflip and land on in the tree branches, you’ll just land in right into the tree trunk, it’s common sense,” Aizawa deadpanned, crossing his arms and closing his eyes.
You just rolled your eyes before smirking and handing your bag to Mic, who eagerly took it and turned to watch you make a fool of yourself, SHirakumo did the same. You took a few steps away from the trees, glancing back to make sure it was enough space for at least four backflips.
“COME ON L/N!!!” Yamada used his quirk to show his support, making the gourd and even the air around all of you shake.
You just smiled and gave them a thumbs-up, Shirakumo and Yamada enthusiastically gave you one back but Aizawa just rolled his eyes and turned over in his blanket but kept his eyes on you. You faced forward before taking a deep breath and stretching your arms out. You slowly raised them and stretched your back out one more time before jumping off the tips of your toes and folding your body to flip backward.
You could hear your very loud friends cheer you on as you continue this over and over again. You finally flipped for the fourth time, and right before you were about to land on right into the tree bark, like what Aizawa predicted, you summoned a thundercloud right under your feet and used the extra to help push you up the tree. You grabbed a tree bench and pulled yourself up before taking a seat on the rugged wood.
“And that’s how you do it!” You moved your hands in a “ta-da” motion, smirking down at the dark-haired teen who was side-eyeing you.
“Hey, wait a minute! That’s cheating!” Shirakumo exclaimed, standing up and summoning his own cloud to float up to you.
You looked at him “incredulously” before smirking and using your to rest your head on top of it.
“No one said I couldn’t use my quirk? Now did they?” You said, before slowly leaning back and falling off the not-so-high branch.
You summoned another thundercloud to cushion your fall, and you safely landed on your back. You swiftly stood up before you made the cloud dissipate. You walked over to where they were congregated and took a seat next to Aizawa, who was just flipping through a book. You leaned against the tree and leaned over his shoulder to glean at what he was reading.
“L/n. you’re annoying me,” he glared at you, using his shoulder to try and push you away.
You just chuckled before tackling him and tumbled all through the grass. He screamed and clawed at you but you avoided his attacks and continued tumbling all through the small grass area. SHirakumo and Yamada screamed-laughed at the both of you continued to roll all through the grass, you’re arms locked around his waist.
“L/n, you’re ANNOYING, get off me!” Aizawa yelled, before reeling his legs back and kicking you in the stomach.
The sudden force causes you to let go of him, wrapping your arms around your abdomen, groaning in pain. Aizawa huffed before getting up and dusting off all of the grass that was sticking to his uniform. You were still curled up in a ball, your head hidden in your arms. Aizawa looked down at you, his eyes softening slightly. He bent down and picked up his blanket and book before walking over to you.
“L/n…? You okay?” He asked tentatively, slightly leaning over your body.
You stayed like that for a minute, tense silence around the four of you, before you jumped up, making Aizawa jump back in shock but e was still too slow. You reached out and punched him square in his abdomen, close to the place where he kicked you. He immediately groaned and curled over, using his hands to put pressure on the wounded area.
“Payback,” you smirked, standing up straight and cracking your knuckles one hand at a time.
He looked up and glared at you but you just smirked and stuck your tongue at him. Before the two of you could start sparring with each other, you could hear Kayama coming from the distance. She was yelling each of your names like she usually did when she came from her clubs.
You looked back at Aizawa and playfully glared at him, “this isn’t over Aizawa.”
He just rolled his eyes and walked away, towards Kayama to greet her. You walked behind him, Yamada and Shirakumo coming up beside you and pulling you into their conversation about which of their favorite singers was better. As the three of you were arguing, you could see Aizawa glance back at the three of you, his eyes lingering over you. He just smiled softly before facing forwards once again.

Omg the potluck… genius. A prime moment for bragging and Arthur would be SO mad he can’t really compete w Alfred’s crockpot rips recipe from allrecipes dot com.
Omg tho a key thing i forgot about the retreat idea: if you rent an air bnb you gotta cook, and I know for us they had everyone sign up and pair off to make different meals. Them getting stuck cooking together for COWORKERS on this awkward as hell trip. Alfred would probs very quickly realize that arthur has no idea what he’s doing and he has to 1) make and serve a bad meal w arthur (both have wounded pride) 2) making something good and taking full credit (mean, pisses off arthur in a non-beneficial or funny way) 3) awkwardly try to teach arthur how to make like. Spaghetti sauce lmfao.
Also I think alfred is probs the guy who chronically loses his ID to get into the building and different areas. I can see him awkwardly knocking on the door to get someone to let him in and Arthur just smugly holding up his own badge through the glass before letting him in and making the SNIDEST remarks he can. Or worse, alfred getting up to go get lunch and Arthur just “:)don’t forget your badge, alfred:)” after he’s half way across the room and alfred having to realize Arthur is RIGHT and having to slink back over to his desk to grab his badge.
Also, two words: secret santas.
the idea of office retreats requiring you to sleep in an airbnb with coworkers AND cook for them was so awful it slapped me fully out of my immersion and fantasy anon dont tell me youve had to do that before 😭 no amount of overtime would make that ok
if my company ever announced a retreat that will be the first time in my life i give my two weeks notice absolutely the fuck not
ok back 2 the AU i absolutely used to be the bitch that left my card home and id always have to ask my old boss to come down and get me in the elevator and nothing is more humbling and humiliating than that shit eating grin of a person coming to get your stupid ass because you have to wear womens business pants and they dont have real fucking pockets and so your card is always fucking falling out and so you tried to keep it in your purse but then itd get lost and it was always a pain in the ass to fish out to flash at the elevator scanner and its not fair cuz your boss just gets to have normal ass back pockets that are bigger than a fucking business card and he also gets to keep his key card in his stupid little wallet that he can keep in his stupid pocket and even thinking about it makes you wanna commit homicide 😤😤😤
also the secret santas? i know some offices will have folks fill out a little “get to know me” card so people arent just buying random ass shit for folks and the thought of those two filling them out and realizing slowly as they go through that damn they dont have favorite anythings or shit they like or whatever and it dawning upon them that their whole lives are dedicated to work 🙃 fun fun
i imagine arthur has to shop for alfred because arthur strikes me as a guy to just have the worst fucking luck and always gets stuck doing the one (1) thing he doesnt wanna do (which, same girl) and alfreds likes are all the most generic bullshit imaginable (which arthur doesnt put two and two together and realize alfreds in the same bot as him and just thinks alfreds the most annoying blandest person on the planet)
but arthur cant just give alfred some generic ass gift because this is an opportunity to Flex and Win against alfred so as much as it pains and kills him to spend even more time looking at and thinking about alfred (which lets be real, he may have convinced himself otherwise but he quite likes how alfred fills out his collared shirts and business slacks) and it idk what he decides to go with for the limited amount of money they get to spend but its a shockingly spot-on gift that alfred loves but of course alfred cant show /too/ much appreciation cuz he cant let arthur win but also he cant just be a grade A dick either cuz then the rest of the office will think hes an ingrateful bastard
but arthur sees that brief moment where alfred shows his genuine emotions of shock and happiness even if it was almost instantly covered up by alfred acting like his usual jackass self and while yeah, he should be celebrating the victory over alfred, his heart is beating so hard in giddiness at seeing alfred look so happy
and hey, maybe this is right before that fated christmas party 👀
