I'm going to rant AGAIN, sorry, but I've been realizing a big mistake I did years ago about kpop.

I've had almost every time I crossed paths with a kpop stan, very bad experiences of being insulted because I didn't find this idol pretty or because I didn't vibe with the group they hardcore stanned. (I had every single time this kind of interactions with ARMYs that were probably 12)

So I just, like the immature and close-minded 14-15-year-old kid I was, assumed the whole fandom was like this.

But lately, especially since last year, I've vibed to some girl groups and my ear got lowkey used to it.

The thing is, I'm a very open person in terms of music. I can switch from numetal to pop, from some old 80's bop to Hans Zimmer and stuff. So I basically had only this bad experience that actually kept me from discovering.

And thanks to my Youtube recommandations, I discovered ITZY's Wannabe (which is a BOP between I absolutely love it) and G-IDLE's Lion for example, and the algorithm basically put me whatever I could vibe with.

Maybe I didn't talk about it so I'll just put a screenshot explaining a weird thing about my relationship to music.

So (I'm talking about this specific group in there) it's basically how I discovered Stray Kids. I won't rant about it (because I'd just write a book fuck I love them so much) because it's not my goal rn.

I also discovered lately Ateez, another boy group that I absolutely LOVE with all my heart.

So basically I'm right now on two discords, I scream over idols, and I'm part of very chill, kind and genuinely good fandoms. With caring people, that accept your opinion, and know when to apologize. Absolute opposite of what I've met before on the Internet.

There are a few bad apples, obviously. I met some 12 year olds in another server that straight up insulted each other for no particular reason.

But my point is, I'm realizing my mistake. I'm aware the only reasons why I refused (because I did) getting into kpop were the angry fans and the fact that I didn't vibe with the biggest groups.

So now I'm a proud, confused, and happy staytiny. Because I actually tried.

In conclusion, "don't judge a book by its cover" would be a good quote but I hate it, so I'll just say:

Try to understand WHY they're being so enthusiastic over this. If you don't like BTS or EXO, okay! I don't either. But in general, if you ever hear a catchy song and realize it's from a music genre you don't like... Don't necessarily stop.

Try to find more stuff. If this group made only one song you vibe with, it's fine. Stay open. Never close yourself to new stuff.

In my family, one parent is super open to music, I can send them a pic of my laptop playing Horizon on loop and they'll say "cool! You like it?". The other is stuck to one genre and anything they don't listen to is pure shit to them.

Now I'm feeling like I'm breaking a boundary I never wanted to have. And I'm happy jamming to my "trashy girl music". I'm also happy jamming to Rammstein. Who cares anymore?

So stay open. And try to understand.
