i’ve sat on these long enough and so we have some of my YGO-DM next gen chara sheets! feel free to ask about them, and there’s basic info under the cut:
Yuko (peachship kidlet):
Has a younger sister (and possibly a brother, both who are currently still being worked on!)
While she loves dueling, she also loves karaoke and dancing games; she can play multiple instruments.
She’s socially awkward and a social butterfly all in one, haha! Yuko is one of those people who’s open and friendly with those she knows, but gets really shy when placed in large crowds.
Her deck is Magician Girls, with Quintet Magician being her ace monster.
The heart-shaped pendant on her bracelet is super important to her, even though it was an anonymous gift left on her desk one holiday. There’s a lot of care that went into making it, and Yuko can appreciate the craftsmanship. It’s also seems to be a puzzle locket too, but Yuko hasn’t figured out how to solve it without potentially breaking it; when she’s stressed, she can be seen tinkering with it.
Risa (polarship kidlet):
Currently an only child, but very much the Mom friend.
She’s very outgoing and confident, a perfect blend of her parents! That includes her temper too xD
She has known how to drive a stick shift since she was twelve, and she’s known how to throw a punch for even longer. Risa isn’t afraid to get into a fight if it’s to protect family and her friends.
When it comes to appearance, Risa is a girl who can do both. She’s your go to for makeup tips, but she’s also fond of ratty sneakers and casual clothes.
She uses a Red Eyes/Amazoness based deck, with her trademark monster being Red Eyes Slash Dragon.
She has been dating Tadashi since middle school and they have a surprisingly healthy (if not absolutely secret) relationship. In their friend group, there’s only one other person who knows they’re dating.
Tadashi (lol idk yet):
He’s an adopted kiddo, but no less loved! He challenged Kaiba to a chess match when Kaiba was visiting a KaibaCorp sponsored orphanage. Tadashi didn’t win, but Kaiba still adopted him anyways: “You could always stand to improve, and you obviously can’t do that here.”
Tadashi will NOPE out of any situation involving bugs. He can appreciate their function and their beauty, but he doesn’t like them at all and will quite literally speedwalk out of a room to get away from them.
Tadashi uses a deck that’s Blue Eyes themed, but he doesn’t have the actual Blue Eyes in his deck; his trademark monster is a version of what will one day become known as Azure Eyes Silver Dragon.
He’s fond of watching really bad sci-fi movies, but only with friends so that he can poke fun at them and laugh; he can’t watch them by himself without cringing.
He and Risa have their act down to a science and bicker quite a bit in public, but in private they’re actually super chill and can spend hours in each other’s company.
Rowen (fortuitship kidlet):
Has a younger sister, and possibly an adopted brother....but shhhh no spoilers yet.
Since his mom is friends with Mai (to Raphael’s dismay), Rowen practically grew up alongside Risa and Yuko. This is also how Rowen knows Risa is dating Tadashi, though he wishes he didn’t because Risa for the final time you don’t have to threaten me with forgotten secrets of my past, I won’t tell anyone.
Rowen’s archtype in Duel Monsters is Guardians, largely in part because of his father. He does in fact use copies of his father’s guardians in his deck (though not the actual cards themselves - those are too important to his father).
Rowen loves to craft and dabbles in everything from sewing to mechanic work to metal working; the necklace he wears has his immediate family’s initials on it, and he did that himself and maybe that’s a hint for something i mentioned earlier ha.
He’s very chill and personable, but if he has to he can be Serious and holds a Quiet Authority in times of crisis. Thankfully, there’s not that many instances we have to see Serious!Rowen.

YGO! Questionnaire

Pleasantly surprised to be in one of these, so let’s go
Favorite series: *Gestures to icon* Is it any surprise I’ll be picking GX? I love GX with all my heart and soul. The story’s pacing is very good and never feels like it’s dragging its feet to get to where it’s going, most duels are over in less than a full episode with the longest one being three, there are so many good characters to get invested in, and this boy right here is your protagonist.
Look at him blow kisses to the audience after beating Crowler, how could anyone not love Jaden Yuki? I care him so much. Even the filler episodes in GX are pretty fun to watch most of the time, and it’s the good kind of filler that may not advance the plot much or at all, but it’ll give you plenty of good memories to take with you. Who could possibly forget the eggwich thief? Not to mention the soundtrack fucking slaps.
Favorite protagonist: I mean...
Yeah it’s Jaden. GX hooked me immediately when I started watching it because of how much I loved this boy. He’s that perfect mix of cocky and sweet when it comes to dueling because he’s confident in his own abilities, but he never stops having fun and being amazed at what his opponent can do, he cares about all of his friends and does his best to help them with their problems, he’s kind to strangers, and he has exactly half a brain cell.
I feel the gif speaks for itself, but Jaden’s dialogue when he turns around here is “I’m such a sucker for things like this! I’ll help you, ma’am!” Dorothy says “No, you’ll be late... Don’t you have a test today?” And Jaden replies with “Who cares if I’m late? I couldn’t leave a lady in trouble!” Jaden Yuki is my absolute favorite protagonist.
Favorite rival: Oh man is that a tough one. Am I allowed to pick two? It’s a hard call to make between this dumb edgy bitch-
And this dumb gay bitch
Honestly they’re tied for favorite rival in my book. I absolutely loved Chazz when I watched GX, and I thought his arc about breaking through his inferiority/superiority complex and learning to accept loss as a part of life without letting it define him was wonderfully written, and seeing him grow as a person throughout the show just made me feel happy for him. Shark... I really thought I wasn’t going to end up liking Shark at first, but god he just gets so much better as Zexal goes on, starting out as this mean spirited middle school bully in episode one, and slowly ending up as Yuma’s boyfriend closest friend. It’s incredible to look back at how Shark acts when he’s first introduced and compare it to... season 3, I think it was, where just hearing the words “Yuma’s in danger” is enough to send him running to his rival’s side. Chazz and Shark. They are my favorites.
Favorite BFF: Him
Crow Hogan is an absolute treasure and he was my favorite part about watching 5Ds. This little bird man first gets introduced by stealing cards for his kids and clowning on Sector Security, and he’s a source of so much good throughout the show. Excellent best friend (technically brother but I’m counting him), wonderful father, 10/10 person all around. Plus the fact that the only thing stopping him from berating his bitchass brother even more was Yusei having to literally pick him up and pull him away is definitely extra points in my book. What a powerful little bird. His only weakness is people that are taller than him, which is unfortunately most people.
Favorite GFF:
Yuzu. Have I actually watched Arc V yet? No, but I’m still picking Yuzu for my number one here. Tea and Tori are just awful characters, I’m neutral towards Alexis, and Akiza... Did have potential to be something interesting on her own, despite how uncomfortable she made me in seasons 1-2 of 5Ds, but her relevance is alllll downhill from there. I’ve seen one clip of Yuzu yelling at a man eating pie and calling him a 100th rate duelist, and that was all I needed to know she would be my favorite. (Clip here)
Favorite villain: Oh boy
The fuckin carrot is my favorite villain, and I say this as someone who fully believes he didn’t deserve to be in the last episode. Vector did some fucked up shit in his day, and he only continued to do fucked up shit in Yuma’s day, but I have to say he was pretty effective when it came down to his goals. He got things done and went right for what he wanted by taking direct action to seize Don Thousand’s power, and he manipulated Yuma perfectly by preying on his kind nature and love for Astral to use him to further his goals.
...Plus I mean just look at his subbed dialogue God he’s such a slut. Evil slutty alien.
Tl;dr Vector was a horrible horrible person, but he was a good villain, and he was so entertaining whenever he was on screen that it was impossible not to like him. Still kinda wish he got what he deserved though, and what he deserved definitely wasn’t another chance.
Speaking of Don Thousand though, can we talk about how unfairly pretty he is? If I had to pick a runner up villain in terms of looks alone, it would definitely be him.
God it was not fair how pretty the big bad of Zexal was. He’s fucking gorgeous, and in my opinion, the best looking villain at the very least.
Favorite card: *Sweats in Duel Links* Favorite? There’s so many cards out there to pick from, but since I’ve already broken the rules with my two favorite rivals, I’ll be picking two of each card type: Spells, traps, and monsters. One for the aesthetic, and one for how often I make use of it.
First up, the Aesthetics group
What can I say, Vampiric Koala is such a cutie, Dwimmered Path has some really pretty card art, and Rainbow Life is an eternal flex on any heteros I may encounter while playing Duel Links. Nothing better than a gay trap card.
Now for usability
Dragon Knight of Creation is suuuper helpful in any dragon themed deck and has a permanent slot in my decks for Mokuba and Kaiba, PoG is always a fun way to boost up weak monsters to ridiculous heights, and Dark Bribe just lets you block your opponent like “Okay I know you wanna hurt me but I will let you draw another card if you do not do that thing”, and they can’t refuse you.
Favorite episode: I’ll be copying cipher’s format here and picking one for each series, but this will still only total out to five for me since I’ve yet to watch past Zexal ^^; Soon I’ll get to Arc V! One day...
Season 0: Episode 16: Turnabout by a Hair's Breadth - The White-Robed Crisis I’m a sucker for my son Joey, and this was a good Joey episode about him and his sister, plus it was nice seeing that doctor get what he deserved :) Duel Monsters: Season 5, episode 12-14: The Deciding Match for Duel King - Yugi vs. Leon/Golden Castle of Stromberg/KC Grand Prix Ends Probably a weird batch of episodes to pick, I know, but a lot of DM was kinda forgettable to me, and these are some of the few episodes I do recall. I just... really felt for Leon’s situation, and I wanted good things for that boy. I care him. GX: Season 3, episode 34: Dark Fusion! Inferno Wing!! Jim. Jim Jim Jimmmmm. This was the episode that finally made me understand why saviorshipping was a thing because it hits you with all these memories Jim has of Jaden and shows how they bonded before all this Dark World shit happened, and the whole thing was very emotional. 5Ds: Season 4, episode 2-3: Recollections, Entrusted with a Friend's Dying Wish God Crow, my precious bird son. I really liked the backstory they gave him, despite how much it hurt. It was probably the best character development he got in the whole of 5Ds, and let you see a side to him you probably wouldn’t expect. I loved watching him get his justice. Zexal II: Season 2, episode 5-6: Alito the Silent Fighter - Reunion of the Passionate Duelists!/ Be Revived! The Duelist Soul That Transcends Life!! I picked these episodes for Nistro and Nistro alone. He was one of my absolute favorites in Zexal, and seeing how well he and Dextra were doing was good for the soul. Just look at this good lion man right here.
Look at him!!!
Favorite decks to use: Elemental Heroes, Aromages, Red Eyes, Six Samurai, and Crystal Beasts.
Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link: I’m a simple girl, I love fusion/tributes for how easy they are, but synchro can be pretty fun, too
Years in fandom: ??? Even I don’t know the answer to this one, friends. I used to be in the fandom when I was in middle school, wrote/read a few fanfics here and there, but then I fell out of it for... Well I’m 22 now and only got back into things 6 months ago? I started rewatching the abridged series of Duel Monsters in March, and from there I just wanted to consume actual Yugioh content and never went back.
Who am I tagging: @finding-fallen-petals @dizziedaikonn @chazzaroo Go wild y’all

☒🐍🌏
☒ for least favorite character(s)
Aside from the ridiculously forgettable Johnny Steps and John Claude Magnum, I’m going to have to go with Bandit Keith on this one. There’s nothing wrong with liking him but, at least the way I’ve always seen his character, he’s a selfish and twisted man who manipulates a literal child because of a petty grudge. I understand that he had been humiliated by Pegasus and experienced genuine psychological damage from depression and alcoholism, but it was a serious misuse of power to threaten and misguide a young kid, one who obviously lacks self-confidence and looks up to you as a role-model at that, and because of that his character has never really sat well with me. It’s one thing when younger characters make some mistakes, but Bandit Kith should have known better than to involve kids in his serious personal problems.
🐍 for favorite duel monsters card(s)
I couldn’t pick just one... so I put my three of my favorites! They’re all pretty different, but I think they represent three different things I look for in a card as a non-competitive player: design, utility, and anime appearance.
Effect Veiler is one of my favorites because, not only is it an incredibly useful card that I managed to snag a holo of in my first ever set, but the character on the card artwork reminds me of Hatsune Miku, a personal favorite waifu character of mine. I also really enjoy the angel’s androgynous design and dope mist wings, and everytime I would utilize this card’ s effect in an actual game I would imagine the wings spreading over whatever monster I was fighting and whisking their abilities away. It’s just such an aesthetically pleasing card, and it’s usefulness in combat definitely helps it rise up and become one of my favorites.
Starlight Junktion is another card I got in my first set and it was definitely my favorite to wipe out against my younger sister. It made it really easy for me, who barely understood the rules and strategy of the game, to summon my big boy Stardust Warrior and it snagged me countless sweet victories against my only rival. Plus the card artwork is absolutely gorgeous and looks like some place I’d love to have a high-rise apartment over, even if I wouldn’t like to find myself driving on a circuit like that.
Revival Jam is definitely an outlier amongst these picks, since the main reason I love it so much has to do with the nostalgic admiration I had for the card back when I’d first watched the anime as a kid on CW’s The Vortex. The duel between the possessed Strings and Yami Yugi was my favorite showdown back in the day due to how seemingly complex and unbeatable Marik’s strategy seemed. I was in awe of her tactics, and it made me really look up to Marik as a duelist and eagerly anticipate how Yami would find a way to foil her impossible beasts. My favorite part of the set-up was the absurdity of protecting a god-like dragon with balls of slime with goofy faces, and the stand-out for me was the indestructible Revival Jam. I thought the gooey creature’s design was adorable and that it’s ability was the absolute most broken and awesome ability I had ever seen on a monster. I legitimately believed that Revival Jam was the most powerful card in Duel Monsters, so I was of course very disappointed to learn you had to pay valuable life points to summon it in the physical card game. Anyway, I was incredibly satisfied when the endearing little ooze ended up being the focal point in Yami’s epic comeback, and to this day I still find the scene where Marik freaks out as she realizes she will be forced to deck out to be incredibly epic. I can fondly remember gushing to my siblings, who used to watch the show alongside me, about how cool the technique was and proclaiming Revival Jam to be my favorite monster. To this day I still haven’t been able to add my own Revival Jam to my real-life collection, but that hasn’t stopped me from wanting it!
Shout out to The Golden Apples, my favorite trap and ace card in my Dueling Links deck. I haven’t played that game in forever so I didn’t want to put it on the same pedestal as the other three cards, but it is still totally awesome. I love it’s effect and the aesthetic of it is just so neat. I’ll never get enough of summoning a cute demon-faced Malus Token with ridiculous attack points to my field from a golden fruit, and it’s probably the only reason I’ve ever been able to break Silver Rank with my crappy grab bag deck that I just filled with cards I like.
That was an absolutely ridiculous amount of detail to go into on such a simple question... but “exhaustive” is my middle name and I just really really love these cards!
🌏 for any AU ideas you’ve had that you’d like to try or just some that you find interesting
So for anyone who doesn’t know I roleplay Rebecca Hawkins on a separate blog, and I have to say that she is easily one of the most underrated characters in the entire canon. Since she is so inexplicably unpopular, I have had to come up with a bunch of AUs and heacanons for her all by myself! One of my personal favorites is an AU where Becca ends up as the president of Kaiba Corp of America. I always imagine that she starts flexing her executive power in order to add attractions themed around her favorite cards to Kaiba Land USA, which starts to get a little out of control when she starts to replace Blue Eyes statues with Luster Dragon ones. This obviously angers Kaiba on a spiritual level, but he can’t do anything against Rebecca’s stubborn insistence that all her changes are here to stay. There are a bunch of other little ideas I have for this AU, such as President Hawkins always keeping so many jars of candy on her desk that there is hardly any room for her computer or that she always blasts ridiculous vocaloid music while working, but I guess I’ll just have to wait for a chance to act those situations out!
#thank you so much for sending in some asks! I really enjoyed answering them!#sorry my answers are so long winded but like I said... I feel the need to be crazy thorough#ms-pumpkin-head

i know i haven’t put out pictures of ripley kaiba but heres some hcs about my yugioh gx au and some of the characters mentioned in it. for now this is all i have to write, but i’ll get to other characters too, like jaden, alexis, bastion, seto, mokuba, etc. its under read more cause it’s long!!
in general hc about this au
this entire au is a big mix of yugioh gx, the og yugioh, and DSOD (which its based on the manga). so im picking them apart to make this au.
seto is 25 in this au and mokuba is 19. they are a bit older in this au.
in this au, seto is a little more involved. every year he’ll check up on Duel Academy, as well as South, West, East, and North Academy. mokuba would tag along too, just so he can see her sister.
considering how well he’s doing as president of KC, he was also the brains behind the academy's so he made preparations to make these schools for duelists when he was 21. three months after seto turned 23, duel academy was already built, then North, South, East, and West Academy in that order later that year.
this au will be using cards that are never seen before in gx like synchro, xyz, pendulum, and link monsters just so things are written more easier to me and to make an excuse for ripley having a rokket deck cause wow i love that deck so much (i have the IRL cards as well haha).
mokuba does duel in this au and he uses a thunder dragon deck shown in duel links (this is from the DSOD world and i think OG world has him a blue eyes deck I think??? not sure).
this au sets two years after DSOD! (ripley was 14, mokuba was 16, and seto was 23 then)
jaden does have yubel after they fuse together with super polymerization in this au.
season 4 of yugioh never happened in this au because the entire thing is just poorly written. they done mai dirty in the season. (but they’ve done everyone dirty in the season tbh).
not sure if i want to do this but i am thinking about bringing the vrains characters into this for a yugioh crossover of sorts, just cause 1) i really like vrains, 2) i kinda wonder what happens when someone has the same deck as the other duelist with ripley vs revolver (cause they both have the same deck) 3) in og yugioh they mention in two filler arcs about virtal reality, so the LINK VRAINS is basically another virtual reality or more so cyberspace than anything else that you can have an avatar for each person that goes to LINK VRAINS. so in this au, i might consider bringing LINK VRAINS as a cyberspace just for crossover purposes.
in this au, professor viper is alive because jaden saved him from falling off the platform they were in. after everyone returned to duel academy, viper is arrested for endangering the students and professors.
ripley kaiba
ripley is agender and her pronouns are she/her/they/them. she keeps this a secret and the only ones who know are seto, mokuba, chazz, bastion, alexis, shepard, crowler, and jim.
in contrast to her brother, seto, she’s laid back and quiet. most of the time lets her dueling do the talking for her when risen to the challenge. she’s rather hesitant to make friends because she did have her friendship betrayed before and people have made assumptions about her being stuck up as her older brother, leaving her isolated during school. but she did have a few friends and has made two best friends during school. bastion misawa and alexis rhodes. this is why bastion and alexis know each other when they arrive to duel academy. for some reason, she had no problems with making friends with jaden, because he knew bastion and alexis. no walls were up that are needed for their friendship
prior to this au, two years ago, ripley has won several local duel monsters tournaments in domino city, including a KC Grand Championship win. in said tournament, because she won the tournament her prize (other than winning a trophy) was facing yami yugi for the title of King of Games, but she lost to him. however, since she won the tournament itself, she is still awarded the trophy for winning the KC Grand Championship. for this tournament, she used a deck used that was based around dragons. but the rokket deck wasn’t built until a year after the KC Grand Championship.
when she arrives at duel academy, she starts off in the Ra Yellow dorm. this would last until her third semester, where she ranked up to an Obelisk Blue.
she can see duel monster’s spirits, even her own duel monster spirit, Kaibaman. she had the card when she was a kid and he usually comes up when having a chat with her or needing some advice.
ripley has a rokket deck when she joins duel academy, just to follow the theme of having a dragon deck like her brothers. she does have other decks including a magnet warrior deck, an aroma deck, vendread, and three fan made decks called the ‘Star’ deck, Geo Dragon Deck, and Phantom Dragon Deck. The Star deck is a deck that’s based around Space, the solar system, ands constellation. Cards of said deck may or may not be based off of other characters of cartoons, anime, video games, etc, for a spacey twist. Geo Dragon deck is based on rock minerals and based on the periodic table as the entire deck is a rock type monsters as dragons. Phantom Dragons are based on various ghosts and demons in various mythology.
in the first school semester of Duel Academy, Ripley is 16 years old, 17 years old in the second semester, and 18 years old in the third semester. However, after Season 3 when everyone was back from the Other Dimension. She transfers schools and goes to South Academy a month later (when Season 4 starts i think???). the whole ordeal left her stressed, extremely nervous, and had a series of panic attacks whenever she’s remembered the incident.
something to think about if i add it: i’ve been playing around with an idea where she has an old device or ancient artifact that she found when she was little and there’s a soul that’s been trapped in there for centuries. not necessary a past incarnation, but like a ghost companion that follows ripley around. kinda like how astral is with yuma. there she’ll have like two companions. this and kaibaman. maybe like a barian ghost??? or an entirely different entity??? im in the process of fleshing this out tho.
ripley, zane, syrus, alexis, bastion, and chazz all went to the same school together before they went to duel academy. that’s why they all more or less know each other.
jim crocodile cook
since the anime or manga doesn’t mention his age, i’m gonna hc him as 16 in his first semester of South Academy, 17 years old in the second semester, and 18 in the third semester. however, the manga does say his birthday is March 14 so that’s his birthday in this au.
in the English dub, he’s Australian so i’m keeping that in this au.
after the other dimension incident, he goes straight back to south academy, along side the other overseas champions to go to their respective school on the same boat.
he was a little bit quiet and reserved than usual, even around shirley. even so shirley still kept him company just as before. that duel with the supreme king left him with nightmares sometimes and he would wake up so suddenly in the middle of the night.
since jim’s eye of orichalcum when it was used to bring jaden back to his old self, he has an eye patch to cover up his eye.
when he gets out to get some fresh air, sometimes he’ll catch ripley out at night too. so the two would just talk about their day and whatever was on their mind. in south academy there is a small beach area and they duel there sometimes to take their mind off of the stress they previously had.
he has parents, its just that in this au his parents have neglected him when he was younger. before he would go home to his foster parents, he had the eye injury and the eye of orichalcum over his said injury. his foster parents had no idea what to do with shirley, who had been following him since he saved her and were very concerned every time she would go near him. they trust Shirley enough for her to be with Jim when he went to enroll to South Academy with her.
his foster parents adore jim and they are both geologists and paleontologists in their own right.
#my yugioh gx au#that whole hc with jims foster parents trusting shirley#i just#i just went with that even though it doesn't entirely make sense haha#also i'll get to other characters and some other in general hcs for this au#for now its this#basically this au is 'what if seto and mokuba have a little sister'#also this is a god damn mess im sorry#i'll try and get a time table for this au when i figure stuff out haha#my yugioh gx au hc
