I know i've expressed this before but "family abolition" as a concept vexes me because I don't know how exactly I'm supposed to relate to it. there is clearly something that both I and self-proclaimed family abolitionists both want to abolish and we at least partly agree wrt many specific approaches to this but I don't recognize and in fact reject their identification of this thing-in-need-of-abolition with anything called "The Family". and then sometimes they will haul off and say shit that I'm actually strongly against on principle and claim it as core to "family abolition". there seems to be some private concept of family as distinct from kinship itself that doesn't really feel useful or even available to me; it just gets no traction in my brain. so it really feels like they're just saying "abolish [kinship systems I don't like] now!" which is fair, but like.
