Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth the First book written by Tracy Borman commentary:

I recently just finished tackling the 240 pages somber fest of the book written about Anne Bolyen and her daughter and have already started re-reading it, as I read it the initial time I made notes to go along with it, here are some of them:

(Please note these notes are just quotes, comments, jokes, over exaggerated summaries, or stuff I remembered while reading, these are not to be taken seriously as I wrote these to keep it light hearted because the book was tragically sad, I decided to share this with the internet to share my raw opinion and thoughts on this captivating book, note I didn’t really put a filter while writing so these are a bunch of unsolicited thoughts)

Heads up! Spoilers below! Tw for Tudor Era darkness (slight discussion of SA of Elizabeth the 1st and Katheryn Howard)

Page 12 - Anne’s Admiration for and amount of knowledge obtained by Marguerite is impressive, along with her mastery of French. I’m also intrigued that Anne was in the presence among humanist scholars such as Erasmus.

Page 28 - Anne is petty and funny AF, this is the most humorous stuff I’ve read, declaring herself queen before a coronation and obviously hinting at her pregnancy by shouting “she wants apples” is amazing, this is woman is smart, calculating, dangerous, petty, but so so so funny

Page 30 - Anne apparently had another cousin named Katherine (not to be mistaken with K. Howard) who married to Edward Stanley Earl of Derby who was an in-law of Anne’s through her brother George, really keeping it in the family here. Anne also had a like for Yellow Orche.

Page 31 - Anne had Irish and Norman Ancestry.

“Perhaps, too, the fact that the falcon is a bird of prey of which the female is larger than the male appealed to a woman known for her domineering nature” (Borman 31). I don’t understand why I fond this so amusing but I do.

Page 34 - Henry put Anne and her baby’s health at risk simply for showing her off at her coronation, the bastard never cared.

Page 42 - Anne doted and loved Elizabeth from the start even though she was now at risk.

Page 47 - “Aware of the hostile gossip, Anne protected her daughter as fiercely as a lioness her cub — even against members of her own family” (Borman 47). Man that is so freaking cute wth

Page 49 - Mama Bear Anne is the most heartwarming thing ever

Page 50 - More Mama Bear Anne

Page 54 - Elizabeth learned some Welsh

Page 58 - Anne tried to give all that she could to Elizabeth especially knowledge

Page 59 - Apparently both beheaded cousins adore animals, dogs especially

Page 68 - Girl boss Anne supporting education and the poor

Page 70 - Reformist Anne super cool 😎. But no Anne is losing her confidence 🥲

Page 71 - Jane shows up!!! But your writing is good Borman but how dare you call Jane “plain”, she is so much more than that 😤

Page 72 - No! Depressed Anne 😢, you deserve better girlie you’re amazing!!! (Although you could’ve been a bit nicer to Mary..)

Page 75 - Anne has another miscarriage, goodness she must have been so terrified, someone please give her a hug. Jane is also smart and playing one of Anne’s cards.

Page 76 - Mama Bear Anne desperately trying to protect Elizabeth and doting on her 😖 (Can Anne be my mom?)

Page 77 - Bada*s Anne playing people for reform, super cool girl boss

Page 79 - Anne worried about Elizabeth so she picks her up and carries her around in panic, she’s such a protective mum ❤️❤️❤️

Page 80 to 90 - . . .

Henry is the bastard here and deserves worse, poor Anne must’ve been petrified, she didn’t want this she just wanted better religious reforms and to be a mom, this whole situation being put into a perspective for me to imagine just.. breaks my soul, for someone to go through something so inhumane and heart wrenching. Literally abandoned and betrayed by everyone except her Brother and Daughter. And the fact that through the end of it all, about to lose her d*mn head for something she didn’t do, Anne still thinks and puts Elizebeth first.

I’m rendered speechless this is so damn unfair. Anne Boleyn deserved so much better, she did everything she could to survive and still lost the game of living in a life dictated by men. The fact everyone was so freaking bent on killing her that they didn’t even put together a coffin for her is messed up.

Page 88 - The fact that her thoughts are still on Elizabeth when she’s about to lose her life is astounding. I’ve never heard of a mother with such instinct to be able to shut off a fight or flight in a guaranteed death situation simply for the safety of their child.

Page 90 - Anne had her lasting impact. She deserved better and her impact on and creation of Elizabeth, along with her reforms make her one of the greatest monarchs to have reigned in England.

Page 92 - These allegations against Anne are so freaking stupid

Page 93 - “Closeted away at Greenwich, Elizabeth was apparently oblivious to the earth-shattering event that had just taken place five miles away at the tower. She had lost not only her mother, but her place in the royal succession, her importance to her father— and by extension to England. Robbed of her chief protector, hence-forth Elizabeth would be buffeted by the ‘storms and tempests’ of life as a royal outcast” (Borman 93).

SHE WAS YOUNGER THAN 3!! SHE WAS TWO! WHAT HECK! WHY THE HECK DID THEY STEAL THAT POOR CHILD’S LOVING MOTHER!

Page 96 - I just.. don’t know how to feel no one is there to protect little Elizabeth anymore.. Poor child must have felt so lost and alone

Page 99 - Because her mum was no longer around no one was there to send Elizabeth anymore clothes 😖, do you hear my heart shattering into a million pieces Borman?? Do you???!?!

Page 101 - Baby Elizabeth really wants to know what happened to her mum 🥺. Also wth, in tudor times you’re considered an adult by 6?!?!

Page 102 - “‘The harm done to Elizabeth as a small child resulted in an irremediable condition of nervous shock’ asserted one author. ‘In the fatally vulnerable years she had learned to connect the idea of sexual intercourse with terror and death’” (Borman 102).

Good hecking job Henry, you traumatized her for life!

Page 103 - The loss of her mother left Elizabeth so traumatized she really needs a hug and her mum

Page 112 - Excuse me Borman?? Your attitude towards K. Howard is not appreciated. That was a child who was taken advantage of! But I will hand it to you, I do love that you wrote about the connection between Kitty and Elizabeth.

Page 115 - Ha take that Henry! Like mother like daughter, cunning, smart, and p*ssed with you.

Page 120 to 122 - . . . That is so effed up. Elizabeth was only a child. Nor should she have almost been blamed for it. No one to protect or save her. Anne would’ve lost it if she was still alive.

Page 122 - Elizabeth seems really attached to Kat I’m glad she had someone but sad she lost her

Page 138 - Poor Elizabeth is terrified I also loved the line; “Much suspected by me

Nothing proved can be” (Borman 138).

Page 140 - KATHERINE CARY (Elizabeths Cousin) HAD SIXTEEN KIDS?! HOW IS THAT SURVIVABLE?!

Page 142 - Elizabeths fear of marriage is honestly a little petrifying but relatable and understandable, she went through a lot and saw a lot, having her mom and her step mom being beheaded on charges of being associated by men must’ve fueled this, children learn from their environments

Page 146 - “If Elizabeth was to hold onto the throne, she knew that she would need to focus her efforts on bolstering her legitimacy— something that Anne had not survived long enough to do” (Borman 146). What the heck, must you make me sad at this time of day Borman?? Anne tried so hard for Elizabeth and yet she still lost and Elizabeth had to fight for herself, strong like her mum. 🥺

I love that document lmao, girl bossing just like her mum, “‘I am the most English woman in the kingdom’” (Borman 146). Her majesty is just as prideful and boastful as her mother.

Page 153 - “This was the first time in more than twenty years that Anne had been publicly — and positively — represented. The fact that Elizabeth gave her mother equal status with her father demonstrates not only her loyalty towards Anne but her determination to prove she was the child of a legitimate marriage” (Borman 153). Oh my goodness that is so cute, Elizabeth wants to be proud of her mom while flipping the court off.

Page 154 - “The symbolism could not have been more obvious: the reformed faith, championed by Anne and adopted by her daughter, had triumphed” (Borman 154). It’s really touching seeing Elizabeth continue what Anne could not, her loyalty to her mother is the sweetest thing ever.

Page 155 to 156 - Elizabeth must’ve been horrified but felt seen by such a thing, Ales really did the right thing

Page 157 - “But his words had left a profound impression on the new queen, stoking her already fierce loyalty towards her late mother. It also strengthened her determination to avenge Anne’s death by firmly establishing the religion of which her mother had been such a passionate advocate” (Borman 157). Listening to Six while reading this makes me want to cry, this is just really heartbreaking and touching wth

Page 159 - It must’ve been so refreshing for Elizabeth to learn so much about her mom and to hear nice things about her, the fact she took this to heart is amazing, it really really is cute and touching 💚💚

_Post reading analysis_

Starting my second read of this book I took notice it’s likely best to write all my unsolicited thoughts before I develop new opinions with my second read.

Both Elizabeth and Anne Bolyen are tragedies within themselves, involving themselves in the tudor political environment whilst being women, damning them from the start. The difference is, Anne willingly entered the game and lost, while Elizabeth was born into it but won, albeit with lots of setbacks and significant losses on the way. These two very influential women in history are so significantly close and influential for one another for only having been in each other’s lives for 2 and a half years. Elizabeth at the age of two lost her protector for when she was alive, did everything she did in her power for her daughter. Elizabeth at a young age wouldn’t see much impact by this except the discussion of her legitimacy but as she grew, without her mother to protect her, she began to face the horrors of life as a tudor era woman. From being sexually assaulted by her stepfather Thomas Seymour to being locked up in the tower of london twice by her siblings, awaiting death there just like her mother, to thankfully survive and make it to queen hood just to have assignation attempts directed at her and an entire continent against her reign whilst her short list of companions slowly died off until she gave up. Yes the rule of Queen Elizabeth the First was glorious and brought upon the golden age of England, but it also wasn’t easy. Elizabeths life was not easy by any means and without her mother to guide and protect her it must have been even more rough. But the little pieces of Anne that Elizabeth kept makes my heart happy, the ring of their portraits, Anne’s Falcon, and defense of her mother. There’s so much of Elizabeth I know Anne would be proud of, Elizabeths smarts and personality resembling Anne’s. If I was Anne, I’d be cheering Elizabeth on proudly from the afterlife until I saw her again. This book is one of the most beautiful and captivating pieces of history I’ve ever read of. The number of information also gathered about Anne makes my soul happy, knowing the intelligent french-like reformist who produced the best queen in english history will not be forgotten. No one deserves to be forgotten or separated from their loved ones. Hearing their story fills my heart and breaks it. If only the two had more time.

I rank this book a 10/10, I would say “I’d read it again” but I currently am reading it again. Never did I think this book was gonna be that good.

Okay! After having a lot of time to cool off and think about it. I’m sharing my feelings about the Arcane finale.

Spoilers!! Obviously…

I have a LOT of feelings about the first episode of Act 3. Namely about Ekko and Heimerdinger of course.

I LOVE that we got canon TimeBomb, but like in a bitter sweet way. Like Powder is with Ekko in a world where everything turned out pretty okay and he gets to have a taste of what it would be like to see his Powder/Jinx happy. And that being what really gets him that HURTS ME!!😭

I also found him and Heimerdinger’s whole mentor and student dynamic in this episode so cute including how Ekko is responsible for Heimerdinger reigning his love for living both with his invention making during his time with the Firelights and now in the Alternate world. I really love them as a duo, tho I may be a bit biased cuz they are me and my best friend’s favorites and I love when our favorites are friends!

HEIMERDINGER CAN SING???😍🥹

The other thing about this episode is the kinda confirmation that Hextech was essentially at fault for a LOT of the bad things that end up happening to the main cast. If Jayce and Viktor had never been encouraged by Mel and the other council members to pursue Hextech then most of Powder’s family could of survived, giving her a healthy support system to heal from the grief of loosing Vi, Ekko would have got a happy ending, Silco and Vander would have reconciled, Zaun and Piltover even seemed to have been on peace terms, SO MUCH would have been different.

Meanwhile all Jayce got to see was how everything when wrong because of what he and Viktor were chasing after.

The end of this episode and everything after kept me in a constant state of crying🥲.

EVERYTHING ABOUT JINX’S ARC MADE ME WANNA FIGHT GOD FOR HER ISTG. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 SHE AINT DESERVE ALL OF DAT MAAAAAAANNNN.

But she was very lovely with her hair down I will admit😔❤️.

The whole plot with the Black Rose was also interesting and seeing how Mel evolved her powers and became very skilled with them was also a treat.

I absolutely LOOOVED this episode!! It was SO GOOD!! Even though I hated most of the stuff that happened xdd. It's just so good story wise and so emotional and dramatic 😭😭❤️ xd.

Also I forgot to say this earlier but as a commercial started (I believe right after the last Wilson family scene - not last as in last, last in the episode 😭😭) I was like: "I shouldn't beat up mentally ill people. It's wrong. Eddie 😌😑😐" XDD don't remember exactly but it was something along those lines and I was real for it xdd

Also I might go back and add some more specific reactions at some points when I rewatch bits, I just forgot specific words or orders of things because I was so behind lol. And because everything was so emotional constantly xdd it was always the drama 😭😭 xD. Loved it though lol.

Okay, listen. I'm glad he told Kim, and I'm glad he finally got some form of closure on Shannon. And that scene was absolutely heartbreaking, by the way, Ryan ate this episode up. But MY GOSH 😭😭😭😤😤. THE WAY I WANTED TO KILL THIS MAN (EDDIE)!!! LIKE, SIR!! I know he's going through it but my gosh 😭. Bro was killing me xD. Genuinely though, I really loved his and Buck's conversation, I thought it was really great. And I'm glad he finally admitted it (even if he was forced to) - if there's anyone it would be to, it would be Buck :'D. My lovelies <33. Eddie saying he was worried about himself broke me 😭😭😭🥺💔💔❤️. And then yes, I'm SO glad he told Kim right after that (and I felt really awful for her :((), but that ending scene of them o.o. A, girly, why? I- you are so gone on him. It's a nice thing to do (try and give him closure), but just- what. And I'm glad Eddie tried to not because that's WEIRD y'all, but then that whole monologue broke me again 😭😭😭😭🥺🥺💔💔💔💔❤️. Like SIR!!! The "I'm broken" bit my GOSH 😭😭😭💔💔🥺❤️. The acting was seriously amazing. And then OOUGH CHRIS AND MARISOL COMING IN AT THE END O.O Y'all I assumed Chris was like in bed or something xD. Why would Eddie do this ESPECIALLY knowing they were going to be coming home soon xdd. Anyway, it looked like it was just a hug but in post episode stills I think there was a kiss? So I don't even know what's going on there xd. But oh my gosh poor Chris 😭. Boy must've been so confused :((. Rough on him, definitely <33. Anyway, I just hope everything works out xdd.

Bobby and Athena! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Listen y'all 😭😭😭. They are it up this episode but they killed me doing it xd. Bobby how DARE YOU RESIGN, AND THEN HAVE AN EMOTIONAL MONTAGE OF GROWTH ON ME!!! RUDE!!! STOP IT!!!! And I am SO glad Athena didn't just stand by and let it happen (a theme this episode, it seems - good on her and Buck) when she knew it was out of character. And her going to find Amir to try and help Bobby :')). I really wish he would/could've after coming that far though 😭. Especially because.him being there and leaving surely pushed Bobby farther, though that conversation did need to happen. And that conversation 😭😭🥺. Dude it killed me. I'm so glad they brought up the rooftop in season 2, didn't just brush over it and revealed how Athena felt about it. It's understandable, and it's one of those things people want you to sweep under the rug :'((. I'm glad she kept an eye out for it again, because it was needed here 😭. I don't know that it would go that far, hit Bobby's in a seriously dark place. And that DREAM, UAOAUAGHH!!! The way Bobby seemed kind of childlike, back to his old self when he would've been having that conversation 😭😭, and the fact that he still refused a drink!! I'm not okay guys 😭😭😭😭😭🥺🥺. I am glad his dad dream version did kind of support him though lol xD, like it wasn't an evil vision it was one telling him to wake up, trying to help him. AND MY GOSH THAT WAKING UP O.O. AND, MY GOSH DID IT HLEP XDD. But y'all 😳. I'm so glad they both got out, and I am SO happy that Athena is okay 😭😭❤️, and I was stressing, BUT MY GOSH BOBBY!!! I was like "noo he's gonna disregard himself and be injured" BUT NOPE STRAIGHT UP HEART ATTACK O.O 😭😭😭😳🥺🥺💔. Bro I'm not okay <333. HE JUST BETTER BE ALRIGHT GUYS I CAN'T TAKE THIS 😳😳😭😭😭💔💔🥺❤️. Also, I know they're trying to paint it is Amir, but I just don't think it was him. I do think it was probably intentionally set (though they could do something really interesting with everyone thinking it was, trying to investigate, and then in the end having to accept that it just happens), but I don't think it was him. He wants to leave them behind, more than anything, and that doesn't fit with burning down their house as revenge. I hope he can help figure it out though <33. Honestly if it were the cartel I wouldn't be too surprised xD. Anyway, Bobby and Athena absolutely ate <333. And they better be okay xdd 😭🥺❤️. I love them so much <333.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode! It had some phenomenal emotional moments, and even a few great funny ones :D. It was pretty wild, and verrry intense o.o (even if some of it was Eddie pining for his ex wife and not like, someone being murdered - not pining for the victim btw xd). But I had a really good time :D. Even if I wanted to kill people a lot of the time xD. I'm terrified for the next episode lol xd . Everything better end up okay. More okay than this episode xD. It was genuinely a good episode though, with some good moments for everyone.

So yeah! I loved the episode, I thought it was great. There were a ton of great emotional moments. I'm excited and scared for the next one. This has been my review of. . .

Hiya!!!! How are you doing doing????? Is it bad that I’m kinda pissed at some of the characters? I know you’ve talked about some of this already but-😤

Everybody has their own opinions and that’s ok here’s just some of my own thoughts

Teru:he still is very rude to Hanako for no reason despite Hanako proving time and time again he’s different from stereotypical Hanako evil apparitions using his appearance as a excuse for his actions

Yashiro:she’s supposed to be the hopeless romantic, the damsel in distress, the teenage girl who dreams of someone taking her off her feet in a fantasy, but the thing is there’s a difference between being boy crazy and her actions she goes for the worst people as well teru who hates Hanako and tries to kill him over even had some vendetta against her but still enamored with him, swooning after every guy hit complaining none will like her when Hanako is right there? He clearly cares about her but she’s gets mad at him constantly, thinking she does nothing wrong, and might be swooning for his brother who he has trauma with!

I don’t want her to lose her hand or die but I just-I really want her to learn a lesson

I just Hanako is one of the best characters in my opinion and I like many simp for him, he deserves so much better poor little amane 🥺

Kou and Mitsuba are also great characters

It’s just the love triangle of Tsukasa,Hanako and Yashiro

And just Yashiro and teru in general-

I don’t hate Yashiro completely

(I do like Tsukasa but I need to see more of his personality,motives and maybe more? Maybe I’m just a simp or somebody who wants to analyze characters-)

I just-I really hope some of the characters learn from their mistakes and grow and maybe just maybe hopefully they can be redeemed or maybe it’s too late but hey! At least we have Hanako right? ❤️

More about teru from Me: Ano I remeber how teru said to Amane " I can't stand the sight of you" and that he endured it for his younger brother. I feel exactly the same way about him. It's also hard for me to look at his ugly face, but I have to for the sake of the plot. I try not to look at him, but focus on his texts. The level of hatred for the elder Minamoto is high, but he is deserved.

Teru doesn't care, he likes to bully supernatural people and ghosts. He doesn't care. He is a pure sadist with a psychopathic murderer and the justification that 'supernatural things are evil', but in fact he loves to kill. He has a special hatred for Amane, so I repay him in kind. But I know there is a hidden secret in his pathetic hatred. I could be wrong, but my gut tells me there's something behind it.

More about daikon from me: Anon… it's not that if I hate daikon I have to wish the worst for her. It's not like that! I sincerely wish her life and I don't want her to die. I want her to live and live the life she wants.

My feelings for Yahsiro are complicated because I hate her and I love her. The hate is greater because she has a personality that is hard for me to stand. Her actions and the way she treats Amane don't help. I'm especially angry with her and I hate her for the way she treats Amane, for the way she disregards him and treats him so badly, for how empty her words are, and for the way she can't admit when she's wrong because she doesn't see it. there is nothing to blame, she is always the victim, and Amane is the worst and the guilty person thinks she has nothing to blame except him. yashiro He treats Amane very badly, so I will also trample on her and her feelings. It makes it a lot easier for me because she makes me hate her with her behavior and actions. But that love is still there, small, but sometimes it makes itself felt.

Amane is my number one, my love and the one I care about, not her. So her feelings are unimportant to me, I don't care, even if I have some love for her. It doesn't change anything.

I think I have feelings for her yet because I hope she will improve and learn lessons, but Anon.. aren't we both too naive? What needs to happen for her to understand? She doesn't even see any guilt in her friend's sacrifice - she didn't apologize to Aoi for being sacrificed because of her, because she thinks it's Amane's fault, not hers, she doesn't see her guilt in any of her actions at all, even the most recent ones from chapter 104, so I have no idea what must have happened so that she understands what she is doing is wrong and sincerely regrets it and apologizes . Although there is a 1% chance that maybe something will come to her and she honestly understands how bad of a person she is and how terrible her actions are. Is it naivety or hope? Maybe it will undergo character development, or maybe she will stay that way. If she stays like this, I will hate her. Easy. But the manga hasn't been finished so maybe she will change and that one 1% chance will be left for her, but honestly Anon… I know I'm naive.

Anon….exactly…there's a difference between being a hopeless romantic and being crazy about boys! Did she think about Amane's feelings and how he feels throughout chapter 106? No. Her problem was that Tsukasa kissed her and she thought he loved her romantically. As if that was the most important thing to her at that moment. She fantasized about them fighting for her. Am I supposed to believe that she loves him when she doesn't care about his feelings? And she didn't even think for a moment, "hey, maybe Hanako-Kun is hurt." She only want to be where Amane is because he is the person with whom he feels safe and knows he will protect her.

Everything I thought about her since p.p.arc is confirmed by her behavior, which she shows more and more, also in words. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

In my opinion Amane is the best character ever!!!🥰💖 He is the best Amane!! I'm glad we agree on most of it. It's good to know that there are people who think similarly about certain things and characters ☺

I won't say anything about kou and mitsuba Anon because it's not the time for me to say anything- The time will come and you will know my opinion^^

But Anon teru and daikon go well together. They are worth the same to each other. My 'beautiful' couple.

About Tsukasa from me:To be honest, Tsukasa pissed me off in chapter 105 and I really won't forgive him for that! I won't forgive him, but I can't hate him! Simply! I don't hate him. My hatred turned into love, but I won't forgive him for what he did and I will be really harsh with him, but despite everything… I managed to love him. Of course it's on a lower level, but still. The only thing I want is for Amane and Tsukasa to reconcile with each other, for brother and brother not to be enemies of each other. I think his motives are related to Amane. Despite everything, I know they both love each other.

My advice Anon. You just need more time to understand Tsukasa and sort out your feelings for him. It's like me with daikon. Let's both just wait and see what the characters do. Will Tsuaksa finally make you like him or not? The same in my case and daikon. We both need character time. There's nothing wrong with that.
