Weird asks! 11, 12, 28, and 49
011. bass or drums? drums! as a kid i wanted to learn how to drum?? and like, the summer between 8th and 9th grade my parents wanted to come up with something for me to do to occupy my time so they signed me up for a couple weeks of tennis camps, and then swimming lessons, and then eventually were like "what about music?? what instrument do you want to learn?" to which i promptly answered DRUMS and my mom went "that's impractical, we're going to buy you a guitar instead and sign you up for those lessons" ...the result is, i do not play the guitar
012. favorite tv commercial? here's something obscure: growing up and moving around with the state dept, we got access to the armed forces network when we were in certain places? which is like, govt provided television available to us personnel abroad. and it would have tv shows and movies and things that were "donated" to the govt so i watched a lot of like, nick-at-night type programming (the brady bunch! leave it to beaver! the 1960s batman!) and then sporadically there'd be something contemporary (gilmore girls! american idol! everwood! lizzie mcguire!). ANYWAY, bc it was govt programming they couldn't air commercials.
so iNSTEAD they'd air govt or non-profit created PSAs in its place. stuff that was clearly geared towards the 18–24 year old male military demographic. so it was a lot of stuff like "don't shake the vending machine", "if you marry a local, there are a lot of steps you'll need to go through", "eat healthy", "here are the signs of a gambling addiction/suicidal ideation/drug addiction/domestic violence/etc", and "make sure terrorists don't steal your uniform or listen into your conversations" etc. there was also always some info-mercials about like, whatever -history month it was, or like, random historical facts about the US, or geography quizzes ("what's that city??")
but my FAVORITE had to be the series of commercials geared towards these clueless men that was like. chewing tobacco is bad for your health, but we know you don't care about that, so let's make clear that it is Unattractive™ to women you want to flirt with.
like there was one of a dude walking out of a gym at the same time a hot girl was walking in and they made eyes at each other. but then as they passed she did a double take and saw the outline of his chew tobacco tin in his back pocket and was DISGUSTED and he was confused. or the other one where a guy's flirting with some girl on like, a ferry? a river boat? whatever, and whenever she's not looking, he's spitting his chew tobacco into his cup. but then when HE'S not looking SHE GRABS THE WRONG CUP AND DRINKS HIS SPIT and the commercial ended on her almost throwing up and him looking mortified and the PSA telling them something like, "don't spit. quit." 😅
028. an unusual song that’s your favorite? i don't think there are any unusual songs that i like??? i mean, what counts as unusual?
049. what scents do you like? for like, shampoo and things, i love coconut fragranced products. or peach is also good. but for candles and things i prefer them to have gentle scents like...fresh rainwater, or ocean spray, or clean linens, etc etc.
