This thought has been rattling around my head since I first read through Chaos Rising. Obviously at this point Samakro doesn’t trust Thalias that much yet. But how do you think he’d react when she’s rescued from Yiv’s ship with Che’ri?

hello anon i got this ask when i was unpacking and listening to Greater Good and it activated me like a sleeper agent and I got like 1200 words into a response to your asks before I realized that I wanted to take a completely different approach to the scene and so here, please enjoy first draft reaction while I work on a second draft that satisfies my shipper brain even more than this one.

Samakro straightens his posture and turns to face the caregiver, but his voice dies in his throat as he sees the bruise darkening the side of her face. He hadn’t seen it at first beneath the ridiculous makeup and no one had said anything. She also never leaves her hair down when she’s on the bridge with Che’ri, so he can’t help but wonder if her wearing it loose now is indicative of something else that had happened. He also doesn’t realize that he’s staring until Thalias lifts a hand to cover her jaw though the damage is already done. “Someone hit you,” Samakro remarks stupidly, his hands gripping the back of the couch when he can’t think of anything better to do with them. She was a civilian placed into a combat situation and she was hurt on Thrawn’s watch, and Samakro wonders if it will make it into the official report. “Yes, well,” Thalias begins icily, though the tone isn’t directed at him, “General Yiv isn’t so benevolent when things don’t go his way.”
