are you staying home from work/school? yeah, I’m working from home during my placement year - but I’m still staying at the placement, if that makes sense? So I’m doing a year work experience in Scotland, and I’m staying in Scotland as long as possible rather than going back to England.

I’m also learning how to properly throw and catch a frisbee (I’ve only twisted my ankle and got hit in the face once!). so some background on how i got to the ot4?

so nellie caught up on kfam the very day ep 74 came out, which led to us sitting on the exam bed in consult room 4 of the urology department of the hospital we both work at for an hour (our lunch breaks are only thirty minutes) coming up with increasingly wild headcanons

part of these were about potential soulmate aus, wherein we decided fairly quickly that ben, emily, sammy and jack are definitely all soulmates

there was also a discussion that went, approximately: “ben and jack are canonically rly similar im excited for them to meet” “what if sammy leaves and ben rescues jack while he’s gone and when he comes back ben and jack are dating” “nellie you fucking genius”

anyway within a week of ep 74 coming out we were firmly onboard the ot4 train with no way of exiting

so here’s notes on the fic itself:

ben and sammy sleep on an 8am-4pm schedule, mostly so they can have the 4-9pm hours to hang out with emily and jack

ben&emily and sammy&jack have their own bedrooms, but there’s also a spare bedroom for a) guests, b) multi-partner cuddling, and c) ben and sammy when they want somewhere to sleep that has blackout curtains

jack, in this future, is an online journalist and does a bunch of podcast stuff with lily. i wrote this and immediately realised i just made him griffin mcelroy. Listen It Works.

their dog chloe is named after the household’s favourite character from their favourite netflix original, The Bright Sessions

bright sessions is another excellent podcast BUT in-universe in greater boston (yet another great podcast) its a netflix show which the characters discuss occasionally. michael tate loves dr bright and wants to dress as her for comic con. in other news I Love Michael Tate.

emily and baseball is such an old joke that i actually forgot it wasnt canon? when nellie was still back in the pre-First Sammiversary episodes, we had this idea of emily inviting ben and sammy on a road trip up to seattle for a baseball game

ben and sammy both enthusiastically agree, only to realise very quickly that Neither Of Them Know Anything About Any Sport

this leads to them both googling baseball terms and doing their best to impress emily with their Knowledge. they do a very bad job but emily is endeared anyway

so in this future jack actually Knows Sports and gladly goes on baseball trips with emily. they also bond over watching rugby and basketball. 

side note they definitely have a basketball hoop in the backyard and all of them use it to dunk on ben all the time

nicknames are a Thing in this ‘verse. technically the first thing i wrote for this ot4 was a short thing about sammy and ben arguing over nicknames. emily calls him ‘benny’, jack refers to him as various small animals (’you sweet chinchilla’, ‘my wonderful insect larvae’), and sammy eventually hits on ‘babe’ as an option. as u can see, I Love Referencing My Own Unpublished Fics.

this fic is set shortly before sammy and ben’s eighth sammiversary, sooo in 2023. damn. theyve all been married for almost three years at this point, and spent at least two and a half of those years talking abt kids and what their options are and whether they even want them, all that stuff. ironically i think theyd only just decided that they wanna adopt a kid when emily finds out she’s pregnant, so the adoption plans are gonna be on hold for a bit.

the “five of us? did you get a girlfriend?” is a LONG joke which i didnt have the heart to cut ahjkdfj

here’s the joke: one time i got rly drunk and was sobbing to nellie over messenger about the concept of ben stealing clothes from emily (and sammy and jack), and then i was just cryin over nonbinary ben, and then i went on a wild tangent about emily being a weed lesbian who keeps her own illegal beehives and convinces the whole household to go vegetarian within a year of them all moving in together.

so now i hc emily as 90% attracted to women, 10% attracted to men, but still identifying as lesbian. at first bc she’s more comfortable w that, and then bc she thinks its hilarious how she ended up basically married to three men.

anyway occasionally she’ll go out with a woman if she’s out of town bc Girls Are Soft And Good. the guys all approve. polyamoury is great yall.

jack likes bad sports movies. sammy likes overdramatic action movies. ben likes romcoms. emily likes musicals that she can sing along badly to.
