Since Dean was in Kansas until he was 4yo, I'd say his accent is more heavily ingrained. But Sam was never in one place for very long growing up, so I think he is probably bi/multidialectical. He'd probably "code switch" easily and subconsciously, without even really noticing it, to fit in with the way those around him are speaking.
I think about sam's accent vs dean's accent literally all the time. it haunts me
#I think this is very interesting to examine in the context of how they're treated and judged by society#(both in the show and by the viewers)#and it creates an interesting parallel with Dean having more attachments to Kansas and Mary and their former life#whereas transience is all Sam has ever known#yet Dean decides to endure a transient lifestyle to be with his family#whereas Sam craves the stable life he's never experienced#my accent varies WILDLY and very quickly depending on what environment I'm in#I'd assume Sam has that subconscious chameleon instinct too#I did used to wish I could get rid of my American accent when I was younger though#it's mellowed out but it's never gone away#I lived in the US until I was 5yo#been in Ireland ever since#my accent is I think a mixture of Irish and American but I lean more into one or the other depending on where I am#hm much to think about
