Note Reads:
Merry Christmas Beth.
The gift from her hanai mother was of course gorgeous and tasteful because Donna’s eye for beauty was renowned even in Manhattan. It would match the things she owned that Zarek liked, the colour of midnight against her dusky skin. And they didn’t wrap around her neck, which held Beth’s superstitious fear at bey.  She sat at the table, and penned a thank you know that ended up being four pages long, adding in all of the details of the two years since she’d seen last her hanai-mother. The gift would arrive first, so she didn’t spoil news about her elopement {which was what she had chosen to call it}, or about the baby.
She promised she’d come to New York to visit as soon as possible, and she sealed it with an actual kiss pressed onto the paper.
Ohana was important, and Donna was more a mother to her than Beth’s actual one had ever been.

She gave him a sword to fight the Minotaur, as well as a ball of thread; she advised him to tie one end near the entrance of the labyrinth and let the thread unroll as he delves deeper into the twisting and branching paths.’

Traditionalist or Reformist?: Reformist Goals in the society: Her main goal is to make a difference in the world. Leave it a better place than she found it and she believes that The Society can help her do this. And if she can check a few people’s privilege along the way then she’d be happy. As a child: She wanted to be a vet due to her love of animals. Last night: There’s a recurring dream she has of her wandering around an unfamiliar house before finding a white room. More of Donna-and-Guy-Not-Dating. @ialwayswasthebest
------
The laughter from the backyard had Donna smiling as she finished putting the leftover pasta into a container. Faolan rubbed his head against her leg, making her chuckle as she reached a hand down to scratch behind his ears. "Why don't you go see what trouble those two are getting into? Hm?" she mused, motioning towards the backdoor. Faolan barked before trotting outside. Without fail, there was a shout from Guy as Faolan began to try and lick him. Donna laughed at that, amused at just how much the wolfhound loved Guy.
Then again, it was probably a Paulsen family thing, she mused as she thought how easily Ally had warmed up to Guy as well.
She hummed as she placed the leftovers into the fridge, before taking out the chopped fruits from yesterday. Who was going to bring chopped fruits ready to be snacked on once Guy went off planet again? She thought, letting out a soft sigh as she placed the bowl on the counter. The thought of a couple of weeks without seeing Guy had her heart clenching. It was going to be a lot quieter without him around.
She didn't realized she had zoned out, until a chin rested on her right shoulder, startling her.
"Are you okay?"
She felt his breath against her cheek, making her shiver. Without much thought, her body melted back against him, knowing he could easily take her weight.
"I'm okay," she answered in a soft tone, right hand coming up to cradle his cheek, eyes closing as she let herself enjoy the moment.
"You don't seem okay," came his gruff response, even as he nuzzled his cheek against her hand. This made her chuckle, her eyes opening and shifting forward a bit so she could turn her head to look at him.
There was no expectation in those eyes, only gentleness and worry as he looked at him.
How easy would it be to seal her lips with his, to let herself succumb to these feelings that continued to grow within her. He turned his head, enough so his lips brushed her palm and Donna knew, she knew, that what they had was more than friendship.
She loved him, in a way that she could not remember loving anyone else before.
If she had been devastated when she left Harvey, what would become of her if she was wrong? If she lost him?
Donna was supposed to be over her fear. She was worthy of love, who wouldn't love her? and yet those words meant nothing when she remembered the pain of her previous heartbreak.
Donna did not want to doubt him, he did not deserve that, and yet…why could she not trust him with her heart?
"I'm okay, I've just gotten too used to you being around," she admitted to him, rolling her eyes the moment she sees his lips begin to form a smug grin. "Don't let it get to your head," she added with a huff making him chuckle.
"You know I'm going to miss you too, right?" he asked, laughter in his tone but the smugness faded a bit when Donna remained silent, her gaze moving away from him.  He watched her for a long moment, before removing her hand from his cheek in order to give it a soft squeeze. His hold on her elbow was gentle, turning her around so they were facing each other.
"Hey, of course I'm going to miss you, and Little Red," he muttered, gently holding her chin to make sure her gaze locked with his. There was the heat rising to her face at the intensity of his gaze.
"You be careful," she sighed, reaching up and taking his hand away from her chin, giving it a light squeeze before letting him go, "now come on, Ally has been awfully quiet," she smiled, this time it reached her eyes. He smiled right back at her.

Greatest challenge to writing your character?
This Meme: Accepting @riggsanity
Tumblr media
The greatest challenge for me is trying to stay true to who she is. Her Parents, Harvey Specter and Donna Paulsen, are Cannon Characters from the show Suits. Both are incredible characters and trying to blend them into an OC can be very difficult. More so when you have your own Muse grow up in New York City, New York for all of her life. Which in and of itself produces strong personalities.
What gets me the most is that she does come off as bitchy and her personality is very much a Dominant one. Which tends to scare off most potential partners. In truth Jayden is a closeted romantic who has Idea of what she wants sher love life to look like.
She wants to be wooed off her feet. To feel like she can share her burdens instead of carrying them alone. To know that she was  someone’s first choice, and not second best. She is very self-assured but that doesn’t mean she can’t feel anything other than anger or bitterness. And a lot of that is never expressed because she is put into a category based off of one post and it is decided that she is one dimension by others. When the opposite is true.
She has such a range that most people never stick around to see and that makes me think that maybe she isn’t right for Tumblr. A sad thought, but a true one. I’ve often considered archiving her entirely and starting a new with a different character. But I will continue to soldier on, in spite of the challenges I face. Because if I fold and give up, then I will never grow and learn to overcome the tests of trial and error.
I’m not going to rewrite who and what she is just because she doesn’t fit someone’s ideal muse outline. This is not how i want to see her character development happen. I’m a slow burn, real relationship kind of person. Nothing is always happy, shiny, or full of sex. People not not there for you to take your pleasure out on and be put back.
Some of our favorite characters as based off of pain, anger, resentment, and hurt. Most never save the world or get the Significant Otter at the end.
And if Jay ends up alone then so be it. I won’t force her into a cookie cutter template just because she’s loud, opinionated, independent, and strong willed. Yes there is a soft gooey center to her, but you have to shatter that hard exterior to find it. A lot of people don’t have the time or will to do it.
And yes, I will admit a lot of that falls on me. For not showing there is potential there.

did you have a muse you tried to play, but didn’t feel connected to?
For sure, I've tried out so many over the years that never really hit the way I thought. Some that come to mind are Melanie Ravenswood from the Phantom Manor ride, Donna Paulsen from Suits, and Manon Blackbeak from Throne of Glass. I love these characters to death and would kill for them but I just can't seem to get into their heads to write them.

So Sweet (A Paula/Donna Fic)
Requested by @statusquoergo!
She put on a brave face when Harvey left her, but in truth it takes months for Paula to pick herself up off the ground again. Finally, she gets sick of feeling sorry for herself, buys a daringly low-cut little black dress, and heads out to an upscale bar. When she arrives, she orders a Very Berry Cosmo and tries to enjoy the approving stares of the men around her.
She doesn’t notice the woman beside her until she speaks.
“What are you doing here?”
Paula starts and turns to look, because surely it’s not--
Donna.
Donna snorts, and her eyes flicker down to Paula’s neckline. “Let me guess, you’re here to meet a patient.”
A blush stings Paula’s cheeks. “Look, I’m trying to have a nice night out, and I--”
“That was out of line,” Donna admits, raising a hand.
Paula’s drink comes, and she nods coolly and starts to get up.
“Don’t you want to hear about Harvey?”
She pauses. “I don’t know, do I?”
“Turns out his love for you was in fact transference.”
Paula gives her an icy smile. “And he’s finally realized you’re in his true love?”
“Nope,” Donna scoffs before throwing back a shot. “Turns out he wanted Mike all along.”
Oh.
“Blonde and blue-eyed,” she sighs, sitting back down.
“And caring, and good at listening, and good at reading Harvey,” Donna adds.
“Wasn’t Mike getting married?”
“He did get married,” Donna says with a roll of her eyes. “And Harvey’s spent the last couple months lashing out at everyone in sight and wondering why everyone leaves him in the end.”
“Have you left him?”
Donna gives her a look. “No. Which, incidentally, is why I’m drinking tequila alone tonight.”
Her voice is bitter and melancholy all at once, and for some reason— she’d like to believe it’s her natural urge to care for others, but it could as easily be morbid curiosity or straight-up sadism— Paula pushes away her Cosmo. “Bartender? Two shots of tequila, please.”
This was a horrible idea.
They spend the whole night indulging increasingly horrible ideas, from when they decided to compare personal notes on Harvey, to when they ordered another round of shots, to when they turned down two cute guys who wanted to take them home, to when they decide to compare professional notes on Harvey. Donna tells her about how Harvey casually forged a document in his latest case and justified it as a matter of personal integrity, Paula tells her about his Oedipal sex dreams, and they reason that it’s fine to share their knowledge, if only because they're breaking privilege in equally awful ways.
Nothing builds trust like exchanging blackmail material.
“You know,” Donna slurs well past midnight, “the best revenge would be if we were happy without him.”
“Don’t we deserve a happy ending too?” Paula muses, slumped on the counter.
“We do,” Donna insists. “I want happiness. And revenge.”
Paula frowns as a new idea dawns. “You know, it occurs to me the two are not mutually . . .” She searches for the word: “exclusible.”
Donna’s eyes flash with understanding.
-
“Donna—“ Louis knocks on her door a few days later— “do you know why Harvey’s been unable to utter a full sentence all afternoon?”
She shrugs. “Probably because he checked his Facebook at lunch.”
Donna Paulsen
💙
In a relationship with Paula Agard
When Louis leaves again, sputtering in confusion, Donna updates her profile picture. Nothing risque, just a picture of her and Paula kissing in her apartment that morning.
(Revenge tastes so sweet.)

The Secret’s Out
Donna and Harvey decide to keep their new relationship status quiet for a while. They manage to make it two weeks before getting caught.
Read on ao3
Donna had completely forgotten about Girls’ Night. She never told Rachel about the kiss but her friend could tell that something was off so when she suggested a night out to get drunk and let themselves loose, Donna quickly accepted. But then she and Harvey, mostly Harvey, finally got their shit together after an explosion that ended with I love you and I want everything with you. And of course the inevitable act of falling into bed together. So for the first time in over twelve years, Donna Paulsen and Harvey Specter were on the same page. However, in the midst of keeping their new status a secret from everyone in the firm, they wanted the bubble to last just a little bit longer and getting actual work done in addition to the nightly activities that left Donna exhausted every morning, she had forgotten about Girls’ Night. Which was why when someone knocked on her door, she had assumed it was the takeout Harvey ordered ten minutes ago. “That was fast,” Donna mused as she untangled herself from her blanket as well as her boyfriend before grabbing her wallet from the nightstand. Only, upon opening the door Donna was met with the sight of Rachel dressed to the nines instead of the delivery guy from the Thai place. “Shit!” Donna exclaimed as Rachel folded her arms in front of her as she took in Donna’s ratty oversized t-shirt and messy hair. “You forgot,” the other woman stated.
“Rachel I’m so sorry it just slipped my mind,” Donna apologized. “It’s okay we can do Girls’ Night in instead. I just feel like everyone’s been so busy lately and I barely even get to see you anymore-” “Donna have you seen my phone anywhere...” Harvey’s voice from behind her trailed off as before her, Rachel’s eyes widened at Harvey Specter emerging from Donna’s bedroom in sweatpants and an old Harvard hoodie. Her eyes then moved from Harvey to the red head, shooting her a glare that said I can’t believe you didn’t tell me. Donna merely smiled sheepishly in response. “Hey Rachel,” Harvey uttered weakly as if that would help the situation and Donna resisted the urge to roll her eyes. “So,” Rachel began as she leaned against the doorway and gestured between the pair. “How long has this been going on?” “About two weeks,” Donna answered in the same weak tone as Harvey. “Well at least we have a lot to talk about when we finally get around to having Girls’ Night,” Rachel said pointedly but she was fighting a smile. “You two...enjoy each other.” The grin she was struggling to hold back broke free for a moment and this time it was Donna’s turn to glare.
Rachel ignored the look of death as she left with a spring in her step and Donna groaned as she shut the door. “Well she’s going to have fun with that,” Harvey said but there was a hint of amusement in his voice. “Wait until she gets home and tells Mike,” Donna instantly replied. This time it was Harvey who groaned, all traces of amusement gone. “Can we take the day tomorrow?” he asked and the corners of Donna’s mouth turned up as she walked towards him. “I’m considering it,” she replied, throwing her arms around his neck. “But you know they’ll be even more insufferable if we both don’t show up for work.” “I don’t care,” Harvey mumbled before capturing her lips with his. Donna grinned into the kiss, the familiar warmth that bloomed in her chest whenever she was in Harvey’s arms swiftly taking hold of her. As she lost herself in the man she loved for the millionth time, it dawned on her that she didn’t care either. She was happy.
Donna knew that she would never get tired of this. Of being with Harvey. Of loving him. This was what she wanted for the rest of her life. Deep down she knew a part of her would even enjoy Rachel and Mike giving them shit because it meant that they were finally together. “You know what? Me neither,” Donna told him when they eventually pulled apart. However, about three hours later Harvey changed his tone when he received a text from Mike that read congratulations on the sex!!!!!! Donna couldn’t contain her laughter as Harvey swore under his breath, stating that they were definitely going in to work tomorrow just so he could push Mike down some stairs. But she didn’t miss the way his mouth was slightly upturned, even as he made his threats. Harvey was happy too.

She lied…To Donna. Her hanai-mother.She tells her the ring is a beautiful antique she found, and then changes the subject as quickly and gracefully as she can.
But even though each word is technically true;
the ring is beautiful {the stone like his eyes, the band like his skin}, and it’s beyond antique, it’s ancient {like the rest of him}, and while she did find it on her hand….The lie is one of omission.
About how she feels regarding all of it. She can’t ask her the questions she needs to, things that will make the world make sense again. And like any good mother, Donna pretends to believe her.
~*~
She lied…To Zarek. When she says it doesn’t matter and that she understands.
But it does. And she can’t.He wants the peace and the quiet he had before she came barging into his life. He needs time to figure himself out before he can worry about all the rest. He says they have all eternity, but she can’t even fathom the word, not the way he does.
He doesn’t think she listens to a word he says. He’s wrong, though. She does, but the fairy tales and the movies never explained what to do between that first kiss and happily ever after, and she has no other basis for comparison.
It matters to her because she has no way to express the things she feels, and sometimes it’s overwhelming keeping a secret like him. She hates the way she has to think about what she says before the words come out of her mouth. It matters to her because she is proud and stupidly in love and how can he be with her if he doesn’t on some level feel the same? She doesn’t understand why he would want to.
~*~She lied...To God, and Father Dafaux. When she had, as a girl, promised them her devotion.Kneeling before the Cross, listening to Vincent’s benediction over his congregation, his flock, she realises she is now the black sheep. For once, she had nothing to confess. The blood and the body on her tongue she needs is not that of some faceless Father or his gentle and sacrificed Son.It is not that she no longer believes in Them, she does, and she always will. She will walk the path as best she can, but her faith is found in a different man, one solid and real and her very own.Through him, she finally sees that they are all real, every legend and every story. She needs time to sift through them, the Mythic Threads that her kind have been entrusted to for millennia, each flowing through her fingers like sand. And she accepts finally that she is a witch, a priestess of the Old Ways, his oracle and shadow. Life in the the wake of death, Peace in the hollow of War.

▼ kissing them (it's national kissing day!)
If one was to ask David his opinion of his relationship with Donna Paulsen, he’d probably describe it as...complicated. There was clearly a mutual attraction between the two of them. Clear as fucking day. But Donna seemed to be waiting on David to make a move, and David...well...David was sort of perpetually treading water. Running to stand still, as it were.
It wasn’t like he didn’t like her --- come on, he was CRAZY about her. She had to see it in the way his eyes glazed over whenever he looked her way. Or that goofy little smile that got stuck on his lips way too often for his liking.
But there was just a lot that came with dating a guy like David Haller. A lot of shit that Donna didn’t really need in her life.
When she’d called him in the middle of the night, he thought for sure that something was horribly wrong. Maybe that boss of hers had died, or she’d been in some sort of terrible accident. But she just wanted to come over. No reasoning, or explanation, just that she was on her way.
She’d must have already gotten in the car, because it was only minutes later that sharp knuckles were rapping at his front door. Apprehension gripped him, David overcome with the desire to ignore the knocking and go back to bed. But instead he opened up, and got hit with one hell of a question.
    ‘ Do you think I’m attractive? ‘
“ W-What? What are you...                                  what are you talking about, Donna? “
‘ Easy question. Yes or no. Do. You. Find. Me. Attractive? ‘
Licking suddenly dry lips, it was a long time before he answered the question.
    “ I think you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. “
The next thought that crossed Donna’s mind was so strong it made him take a step back, making it look as though he was retreating from her advance. But she would not be denied, not again. Long fingers curled into the wool of his sweater, clinging desperately. Trying not to let the MAGIC MAN pull off another disappearing act.
With nowhere to go, their lips met. Finally, and for the very first time.
It was everything he thought it would be.
