EVENT: YEAR END ACTIVITIES 2024 AWARD: KOREA BRAND AWARD POST TYPE: SOLO

the surprise doesn't come from the newcomer award's nomination (she already knew about it), but rather from her name being called. this year again, nova has been blessed with success and love from their fans and the public and the year end has been a reflection of that. with the other girls by her side, if milan had to anticipate a win, it would be nova as a whole, not her alone.

as soon as the light of the camera filming her turns red, milan's eyes widen and she freezes like a deer in headlights.

confusion. shock. disbelief.

the idol goes through it all in what feels like a lifetime but really is just a few seconds. as her hand lifts to cover her mouth, she glances at the five other girls sitting next to her, as if asking them if this is alright. her eyes still wide open should begin to feel dry by now, but instead tears well up.

when she rises from her seat, its moreso to distract herself than anything. by now she's used to periodic episodes of feeling faint, but this time, her trembling steps and shaky hands have nothing to do with a lack of sleep or sustainance, or even from a boot of caffeine as cheap replacement for rest. no. it's something akin to the guilt she felt the previous year towards noeul when nova won their first award.

her being the first in the group just isn't right.

the young woman doesn't even registers picking the award and thanking the hosts, much less placing it down on the podium. but she comes back to when the applause die down.

"ah... to be honest... i didn't expect to be here, so i don't have much prepared." she admits sheepishly, which seems to amuse more than a few. well, if there's a positive to being known as an entertainer, it's that almost everything she says is seen as humorous. "for two years now, an undeserving person like me has received so much support and so much love from everyone around me. through this, i managed to debut alongside five wonderful and beautiful and women and worked with amazing people; directors, managers, producers, stylists, hairdressers, assistants and so many more." her voice trembles a bit as she mentions her members. her stars. her driving force. "surrounded by these hard-working and talented people, i wondered for a long time how a lacking person like me could pull my own weight." she casts her eyes down to the award and brushes her fingers on it. "i took this path with this goal in mind. all i wanted was for one more person to know of nova." she nods a few times as she tries to blink away tears. "i'm bringing this award home for our fans, for my members and for everybody who has been supporting us in the past two years, not as yu milan, but as nova's fairy, milan." she bows her head. "thank you for watching over me, i'll work hard to show an even better side of me in the future." she inhales before exiting the stage, her award in hand. once backstage, she exhales and finally let the tears flow freely, while a voice inside her head keeps on repeating the same words: you don't deserve this.
